I Walked Japan's Kiso Valley and It Felt Like Stepping Into a Woodblock Print

"A shop in Narai marked by a giant red comb at its entrance, visually linking the modern storefront to Eisen’s woodcut that depicted a comb workshop; the comb serves as a tangible echo of the town's craft history and the ukiyo-e imagery." - Hannah Walhout Hannah Walhout Hannah Walhout is a senior editor at Travel + Leisure, where she edits the Discoveries section of the print magazine and develops longer stories focusing on food, wine, and spirits. Whether you’re hunting for the latest trends or timeless classics, you’ll find renowned names like Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton alongside accessible yet chic labels. The well-organized layout makes browsing a breeze, and the spacious walkways ensure a comfortable shopping spree even on busy weekends. A Food Lover’s Paradise The food court is an absolute highlight of this mall. With an impressive array of cuisines, you can savor dishes from all corners of the globe. Craving Italian pasta, Japanese sushi, or American burgers? You’ll find it all here. Sweet tooth? The dessert stalls are heaven, offering everything from artisanal chocolates to creamy gelatos and freshly baked pastries. There’s something for every palate, and the lively, welcoming ambiance enhances the dining experience. More Than Just Shopping and Dining The mall isn’t just about retail and food—it’s a complete lifestyle destination. Beautifully designed with modern architecture, lush interiors, and ample seating areas, it’s a place where you can spend hours without feeling overwhelmed. Entertainment options like movie theaters, kids’ play zones, and seasonal pop-up events make it a family-friendly hotspot. Customer-Friendly Facilities The staff are attentive and helpful, the facilities are spotless, and the parking is hassle-free with ample spots and easy access. There’s even valet service for those who prefer extra convenience. Final Verdict This mall strikes a perfect balance between luxury and accessibility. Whether you’re shopping for designer brands, indulging in diverse culinary delights, or simply looking for a fun day out, it checks every box. A visit here is not just a trip to the mall—it’s an experience you’ll want to repeat.

Matsuzakaya has lots of luxury shops. You might find almost all of the western luxury fashion apparel here. I usually go the baking shop on the 6th floor which has whole meal flour for bread and pastries, baking items and lots of pastries ingredients.

Very nice high end department store in the heart of Nagoya. My kids love coming here especially for the Pokemon Store. They have gourmet/specialty food section on the lower level B1 and B2. I still love coming here in 2023.

This location offers a wonderful mix of shopping, dining options, and more, making it a fantastic destination for families with children. The environment is kid-friendly, which adds to the appeal for those looking for a place that caters to all ages. However, one notable drawback is the parking situation. Due to the limited number of elevators within the building—three, to be precise—finding parking can be quite time-consuming. This issue is particularly pronounced on weekends when the crowd size increases, leading to even longer waits for elevator access. To mitigate some waiting time and ensure a smoother experience, I highly recommend making dining reservations in advance of your visit. Overall, despite the parking inconvenience, the variety and quality of options available make it a spot worth visiting.

Lots of luxury brands but excellent food at accessible prices on the restaurant floor. The Pokémon centre is not in this building, it is in the Parco mall. Hands in the basement (B1) has excellent stationary and other things.

Don't pay with your Amex card if you need tax free service. An old gentleman refuse to process because my Amex card bears my English name and initials. He then ask me to sign my card signature on my passport or sign my passport signature on my card just for him to match, which is not making sense either way. I spent a lot of time explaining to him and end up leaving frustratedly. I had no problem in claiming the tax-free service elsewhere and this is my first time being rejected. Sad with the Matsuzakaya and would shop at other department store.

I had never visited the store before, but we came here to participate in some workshop events. We particularly liked a workshop that you can use kimono fabric to make a bag hanger. We could choose a fabric to use from various antique kimonos, and it's useful and pretty. Kids loved the experience too. The artist was very polite and helpful. The other workshop was to make flowers with gibier leather. It was an unique experience that I've never seen before, and it certainly became our great memory of this year's Golden Week. I would like to attend another workshop if there is one.
