Amazing service, truly a luxury experience from the drinks to the dessert and everything in between. The staff were extremely knowladable on not just food recommendations but also the history. We had a taste of many portions of the menu. You can not go wrong with any of the appetizers or the desserts. The steak was amazing, and the drink was recommended and was an excellent choice. I would recommend to anyone who wants a special experience and delicious food.

Hate it is closing soon! August 10th I believe, go enjoy it while you can. It is spendy but worth every penny. The food was divine. The chef should have no problem finding a job. The staff treated us like royalty and even gave us a small tour afterwards. Even the security guard practically rolled out the red carpet for us when we arrived. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

I am going 5 stars. Everything was just good. All the staff we interacted with was so nice, I think our servers name was Meg she was awesome and had a fun friendly vibe, request her if you can. The steaks were cooked just right and had great taste. I also loved the extra sauces you can get, I added Henry banes and some garlic butter. We also got fries and the whipped potatoes (excellent). Next is the view, just looking over the track while they are maintaining it or racing is just a nice experience. Oh yeah the bourbon a huge selection with very rare ones you won't find other places. Overall a must go to.

This place was amazing! Great staff and fantastic view of the Kentucky Derby track. Many different style of Bourbon and Wine. Fantastic crab cakes, and fillet. My fiancé and I were celebrating our Anniversary and she ended up getting the Bucatini which was fabulous, I stole a little bit 🤭 all and all we got shuttled from the gate to the door and everything after that was just amazing!

Chad was 1st class! He served me and checked on me often and gave great recommendations. Cmshyanne was smiling and greeted me at the door! Chef Stacy presented my crab cakes, which were truly outstanding! Jen the manager came and said hello. Thank you Laura for the reservation and for everything! The Filet was flavorful, perfect temperature and the whipped pot were excellent. This is a must for you to visit while in Kentucky!

We were there for 2.75 hours. Watched a couple races from the balcony. Michael is an amazing waiter. Very friendly. Food was amazing. The petite filet of beef and lobster tail melted in my mouth. Lobster bisque was very tomatoey, scallops were amazing, bone in ribeye was top notch. The list of wine was the longest I’ve ever seen. At least 25 pages long (if I can figure out how to download a video I will post the wine menu). Rare bourbon available.

Recently opened and an excellent edition to Louisville's culinary experience, Matt Winn's sits atop Churchill Downs looking out across the track offering sweeping views of the grounds and a modest view of the city. We were actually lucky enough to enjoy a rather forceful autumn storm after watching the sunset while enjoying our meal. There is a superb selection of bourbon as well as wine and the bartenders & wait staff were amazing. Our food was succulent, timely, and in line cost wise with what you would expect from a top tier dinning establishment located in Louisville. We've already made plans to come back again and bring a couple more guests with us as this has jumped up into our top five within the city. A minor note for those going: we ended up using the gate at Racine and Taylor as the others were closed. You'll proceed down to where Google actually says it's located to walk through a metal detector and jump on a golf cart for a quick ride to the doors of Churchill Downs before a brief walk to the elevators.

This was one of the most special dinners we have ever booked! We were in from out of town for the weekend, and happened to book a table to celebrate my husbands birthday. When we arrived, a golf cart was waiting to drive us to the vIP elevator at Churchill downs. We rode it up to the top and were greeted by name by the hostess. The service was impeccable the entire night. The food was delicious. The drinks were on point. The seafood and dessert carts were brought tableside to make your selections. Our table overlooked the track and winners circle. It was truly a magical evening from beginning to end. It was our favorite part of our weekend. When word gets out about this place, it will be a hard reservation to get.

Parking for Matt Winn's Steakhouse is in Section W19 with prominent signage to get to where you need to go. This is the nearest entrance to access the elevator bank that goes to the restaurant location on Level 6. We arrived early for our 6 PM Saturday dinner reservation and enjoyed briefly exploring the artwork and bourbon displays near the restaurant entrance prior to being seated. We were greeted and led through the beautiful oversized bar area (where the bartender was in the process of creating a smoked cocktail) and then ultimately seated near large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the track. Several of the waitstaff acknowledged that we were celebrating a birthday this evening, which was a nice surprise. We placed cocktail orders (a Pink Star and a Bubbling Over) and received these and waters soon thereafter. We were able to take our cocktails and visit the outdoor balcony overlooking the track to watch the last few races of the evening at our leisure. Magical and delightful experience! When we returned to our table, we requested several items to start so that we could share and sample, including an appetizer order of shrimp and calamari fritto misto and a lobster crab cake, which arrived within a relatively brief amount of time. The lobster crab cake was luscious and the shrimp and calamari were delicately battered wjth a feathery, crispy, and well seasoned coating and accompanied with sides of an aioli and a Thai chili sauce. We also ordered a a classic Caesar salad with white anchovy filets to share, which arrived within a brief period, and was also delicious. We each ordered a 6 ounce petite filet, medium, and a shared order of whipped potatoes. A bread basket had also been brought to the table, which contained several types of rolls and rustic slices of crusty bread. The steaks were perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, and memorable. The potatoes were creamy and a perfect accompaniment for the steak juices. Finally, a slice of strawberry cake with a rich strawberry sauce was brought to the table as an unexpected birthday treat, including a lit candle to make a wish. A wonderful surprise and the tender cake and jammy fruit were a perfect finish to this wonderful meal. Restaurant has a lovely ambiance with decor and fantastically comfortable chairs with high backs, linen tablecloths, and spectacular views. Waitstaff were attentive, to the point of being a bit intrusive and intense, particularly the support staff with removing plates prematurely, hovering, and visiting the table too often. Support staff also appear to need further training with regards to dinner service, specifically with proper placement and removal of plates, to the point diners were having to move out of the way as they used "boarding house reach" and bumped arms, jostled shoulders, and kicked diner's chairs in their hyper focus to rapidly clear the table at times. Bathroom was clean and well maintained. Soap dispensers were less than functional. Water taps are not hands-free. Decor was lovely. We would be pleased to return to this restaurant in the future, as the food and views were stellar. Highly recommended for consideration on diners' short list when researching the multitude of current Louisville restaurants.

Matt winns steak house is a higher end steakhouse located in Louisville historic Churchill downs home of the Kentucky derby. Stopped in here to celebrate my birthday on a September night. Me and the wife made reservations and we walked in they had our table ready for us. We will start with the seven and ambience. Very beautiful views of the Churchill downs track which is a unique offer no other steak houses in the city can offer. The interior decor is that of high end bourbons. Is there anything more Kentucky then bourbon and horses? We got a window seat next to track. You can actually walk out side and sit in the grandstand seating to watch races. On our night we visited there were no races. But it was a beautiful day and night so we went out there to enjoy the views. Our service here was top notch. Super fast, friendly, and they made my "special occasion" feel as it should in being special. Food wise you are started with complementary bread, rolls and butter. Very tasty and fresh. Great way to open your taste pallets. Me and the wife did start off with an appetizer of Rock shrimp & calamari fritto misto which was very tasty and had a great flavor. It had the traditional red calamari red dipping sauce and a house made white sauce. Both very good and we each rotated bites trying each sauce. For entrées, I will have an 18 ounce bone in ribeye and my wife went with the 14 ounce New York strip. Our steaks were made and cooked exactly how we orders them and was very delicious. When you order a high dollar steak you never want to be disappointed and we certainly was not. This flavor carried its price tag correctly. For my birthday they did bring out a nice size chocolate mousse cake for me and the wife to share. Like everything else we had here. It was also delicious very rich and very tasty. Overall, this was a great experience with delicious food, amazing service and breathtaking and unique views, and set up that no other place in the city can offer. The backdrop of church was really cool. I can imagine on race days or even the Kentucky Derby how unique and awesome this place would be as it was really great when there wasn't even races. I would highly recommend this place to any steak lovers or anyone want to get a different view of historic Churchill Downs

We were punked, stay away from this establishment. Upon arriving we were greeted by a wonderful gate attendant who prepped us for "the best meal of our lives". This was the last positive thing about the experience. It was a Thursday night in March, and downtown Louisville was packed, but this restaurant was empty except for one other table. We were celebrating my father's retirement, and this seemed like the highest-end eatery we could find. Our waiters were visibly stressed out, so stressed that we all mentioned it, and we were afraid to ask them anything. Not sure what that was about. My father and I split the $160 powerhouse, ordered it medium rare. The steak was BLUE, I could barely cut it. I posted photos on social media to make sure it was not just me, and everyone said "blue". I could only chew a few bites of it. I love steak, and would have sent it back, but see above about the waiters. It was around now that we started to feel like this was a practical joke or something. Everyone else's food was mediocre, nothing worth mentioning. Not even close to Ruth Chris quality, and I consider that very run-of-the-mill, medium quality at best. My daughter ordered her favorite, the cheese plate. This was delivered without explanation. No idea what any of the cheeses were, and we had to ask if anything was spicy, the waiter looked annoyed and said he would have to go to the kitchen and ask. We didn't bother with the dessert menu, after what we had just witnessed, we cut our losses and ran out. When I mention this meal to my mom, she gets physically distressed and says it makes her sick to even think about it. It was probably the most she'd ever spent on fine dining, and she was beyond upset and disappointed at the whole experience. It is a real shame as the environment is amazing and we were ready for a top-notch experience. Instead, this is one of the worst meals in memory, and I hope I can forget it one day.

My partner took me here and it was such a fun elegant outing. You need a reservation to visit and when you arrive, they golf cart you in from the parking lot. We enjoyed our food and the service was very attentive. My partner really enjoyed his smoked old fashion so he got two of them. We also loved the shrimp & calamari appetizer. It was well seasoned and had great dipping sauces. We had a view of the race track from our table but the lights weren't on. We asked to go out on balcony to see it and the manager took us and shared details about the racetrack. It was a nice place to go for date night. We'd probably return for a few drinks as they're surprisingly cheap compared to the food menu.

This is our second visit to the steakhouse at Churchhill Downs. Make sure you find the right gate to get in. When you do find it they have a golf cart to take you to the elevator to go up to the restaurant. The interior is dimly lit and large glass and wood cabinets hold the treasure trove of highly sought after bourbons. We were promptly seated by the massive windows which overlook historic track. Our server Carla came to the table to introduce herself. She was friendly and outgoing. We quickly realized she was our server last time and she made the meal special then. I love that she paced the meal and nothing came out on top of anything else. She even asked as we were finishing appetizer if it was ok to bring out my salad. Highlights of the meal: the croutons on the Caesar salad. They were buttery and cheesy and almost melted in my mouth. I normally hate croutons and especially now that I have braces they are unbearable. These were AMAZING! My husband loved the drop biscuits. Our steaks were prepared to our liking and had great flavor. The roasted garlic on the top adds just the right amount of butteriness. I added scallops to my meal and they were well seasoned and sear was nice! We got to see the fireworks from Kentucky Kingdom at the end of our meal. Carla was super awesome and her personality really shows how much she enjoys her job. We laughed and joked. I gave her some menu suggestions and she told us that we made her night. What a great dinner. We did have a couple glasses of wine and a bourbon flight of their barrel picks. Good pours for the amount of money. Can't wait to visit again.

I love Matt Winn's, the food is always great and the service is on point. If you can get in on a race day the five stars jump to seven or eight. The bourbon list is second to none and the history in and around the restaurant makes the experience second to none. If you haven't been I would definitely recommend going and trying to out!

It is hard for me to give this iconic location a 3 star review but if it had not been for it being at Chruchill Downs and the service it might have been a 2 star. Four of us went for my birthday and the bill was $300 with tip. The location, service and atmosphere were top notch. Located on the 6th floor of Churchill Down's Millionaire row the views were fantastic. You could see the entire race track, Cardinal Stadium and the surrounding neighborhoods of the track in addition to downtown from the outside area which you have access to while dining. The atmosphere is old school, very elegant, classy old money feel. That was so cool. Seating by the windows make the views fantastic. Upon arrival we were greeted by an employee who knew it was my birthday and wished me birthday greetings. She then took us in a golf cart from the entrance to the elevators. It was nice service but also a way to keep us from wandering around the track. There is ample free parking right outside the entrance gate this is well marked. They asked to take our coats at the reception desk and seated us promptly. There were probably only 5 other parties in the entire restaurant the entire evening. Service was exceptional. Our waiter was kind, knowledgeable and accommodating. Another server keep our water glasses filled, removed plates, brought bread and was very efficient. We are big water drinkers and never did we have to ask for water. So the views, the atmosphere and the service made this a 5 star along with some of the food but overall we were not impressed with the food. We opted to share dishes. Bread was served first. There were brown butter honey rolls that were excellent. Hot, light and cooked perfectly. They also had a Focaccia bread. They were both really good, especially the rolls and enjoyed by all of us. They came with butter and an oil and vinegar dipping sauce. My son in law had a Raspberry and Thyme Sour Mocktail that he and my daughter said was good. We split a caesar salad and french onion soup. Soups was the favorite of all of us, serving piping hot with lots of cheese and bread topping and full of onions with a rich broth. It was a big bowl and was enjoyed by all. The caesar salad was OK. Nothing special. For main dishes we had the 10 oz Filet of Beef, An 8 oz Wagyu Short Rib served with wild mushroom and black truffle Risotto and Double Cut Pork Chop served with Bourbon brined, spiced apple chutney and sweet potato puree. The other three liked the filet but it was too char grilled for my taste. The inside was delicious and cooked as we ordered it. It was not served with any sides for $64. The Short Rib for $40 was as the server said a comfort food. Tasted a lot like my mom's pot roast, good and tender but not anything special. The risotto was good and filling. That was all we had left over to take home about half of that dish. The pork chop was dry and didn't have any flavor. If it had not been for the sweet potato puree, which was excellent not sure it would have been edible at least for me. We added two sides that they advertise as sharable and they were good size portions. The Mac and Cheese at $15 was one of my favorite dishes of the evening. The broccolini on the other hand was stringy and a bit tough. Not anyone's favorite. We ordered a Chocolate Nuts and Berries cocktail for a dessert drink, Chambord, Frangelico and heavy cream with dark chocolate shaving served over ice. It was pretty good but very rich. There was not a dessert cart which was disappointing. I always enjoy seeing my dessert choices. So we ordered a shortbread with cream and berries. It was a nice presentation but again nothing to write home about. The shortbread was OK, a bit dry and the berries a bit tart and I am more about sweet desserts. Last complaint is that other than the girl who rode us in the golf cart and the hostess my birthday was not acknowledged other than a candle on the dessert plate that we paid $12 or $15 for. I would have thought for a $300 meal for 4 they could have included a brownie and scoop of ice cream as a complimentary dessert. So although we had a great time celebrating and the atmosphere was wonderful I would not go back for the cost of the meal and the quality of the food overall.

It's upscale dining in Churchill Downs so I wouldn't expect anything less than phenomenal. And that it was! Cocktail and wine menu was perfect. I drank St. Laurent. It was perfect with my meal. Service was perfect. Ambiance was perfect. We were there with a group of friends.

We came here for my birthday dinner and it was amazing! First, the space is beautiful and very spacious. Our waiter was nice, but clearly new. The manager came around several times to adjust a few minor things. The food was amazing. We split the porterhouse and it was cooked perfectly. The birthday brownie left a lot to be desired, but we were so full that it didn't matter much.

Was so excited to try this restaurant out as we love Churchill downs but our New Year's Eve dinner was literally ruined by the terrible service. Our waiter Stephen was quite possibly the most miserable server I've ever encountered. Mumbling, barely visiting us or checking in, us having to ask for everything (including dessert menus which we got an attitude from him). Overall awful service. The busboy had more charisma and should be promoted. Not to mention there is an automatic 20% gratuity added on even for god awful service. A scam. The appetizer special we ordered was disgusting and inedible - who puts caviar on strawberries on oysters then dumps champagne on it? and when we complained about it he could not care less. Also!!! My ceaser salad WAS NOT CUT! Giant stalks of romaine were on my plate with anchovies smacked on top and dressing drizzled on. At a 5 star steakhouse I never thought I'd have to cut and toss my own salad. Who would've thought Red Lobster would do it better!! However the steak itself WAS fantastic and the smoked maple old fashioned was smooth as anything. But for the price point / skip this place or get a cocktail before a race and nothing more.

Ok, I very rarely bother to leave a review if it's not positive but I'm compelled to make an exception in this case. I got tickets for Opening Night/Matt Winns this year and my wife and I were joined by a client and his wife. The setting is absolutely beautiful and the limited menu for this event was prime rib, shrimp & grits and something else that I don't recall. We started with a charcuterie board which was excellent but when the entrees arrived, I was not impressed. Three of us had the prime rib and one had the shrimp & grits. The prime rib was generally over cooked and luke warm. The shrimp and grits was a tiny portion and reportedly was mediocre at best. The service was ok and I felt like they were definitely trying but we had to ask for a lot of things that would normally be provided a an establishment like this. Keeping in mind that this was appropriately $200 per ticket, my expectation was much higher and this was my second trip to Matt Winns with basically the same experience. I hope they get this figured out. It's a great location and has the potential of being a really nice experience.

Food is much too salty and the salmon is inedible - tasted old but again just heavy on the salt. Steaks are reasonable but overall food is lacking

Tucked away in Churchill Downs is the wonderful dining experience with fantastic views of the track. We were celebrating a birthday and were a party of 13 and had excellence service. Food came out hot and the side are definitely shareable between 2-4 people. The cocktails were well crafted and quite tasty. The ambiance says upscale but not stuffy. There were different levels of attire due to there having been a race earlier in the day, I would definitely call ahead regarding proper attire. I would absolutely visit again.

Best scallops in louisville. Service was incredible and views were unique/beautiful! Everyone with our party enjoyed steak and had great things to say. Apps and cocktails were wonderful. Loved the kid fashioned presentation. Will be back! Add it to your top spots in Lou!

Meg! Bently! William! There are some truly awesome people that work there as wait staff as well as the hostesses and managers and chef. We keep coming back. With friends and on dates and for bourbon-ing and dining clients! We will keep coming back and hope to make that coveted derby time reservation!

An exquisite place located in the heart of the famous Churchill Downs, with a spectacular view of the race track! All emanates an old southern feeling, from the furniture and decor (the bar itself is unique), to how one is treated. Had business dinner here tonight and it was once in a lifetime experience - absolute enchanted by Ron the bartender's knowledge of bourbons, and extreme courtesy of our waitress Meg. Started the evening at the bar with a locally distilled bourbon (Angels Envy), which was Ron's recommendation for a non bourbon's drinker. We shared the charcuterie board, which at $28 was appropriately priced, and enough to satisfy a bit of chatting before main course. For main course I had my fav ribeye steak, which was deliciously grilled to my satisfaction. Priced at $49, I felt it appropriate for the experience. All while enjoying a good savory Sauvignon Blanc bottle for the table! Cannot wait to come here again!

How the mighty have fallen. When Matt Winn's Steakhouse opened in 2020, we were fortunate to be able to experience it before COVID closed the world, and I was blown away with our experience. The Matt Winn's we experienced then was a true delight... the food, the service, the atmosphere, the ambiance. It was all top notch. It was a restaurant that could easily be in New York or Chicago, and I sang its praises to many friends and colleagues. Unfortunately, things seem to have gone drastically downhill for one reason or another. Upon arrival to our 7:00 reservation, we were promptly seated, and then unacknowledged for the next 15 minutes. When our server finally came over, he almost seemed as if he was annoyed to be there. He brought our drinks and took our order, and then disappeared. Our appetizer of deviled eggs were delivered by a different gentleman that simply plopped them down on the table without saying anything. The potato leek soup was tasty, yet uninspired, and we both chuckled and how embarrassingly little soup was in the shallow bowl. For the next hour, we watched in awe as other nearby patrons experienced much of the same neglect that we face, and I finally had to flag down the manager to inquire as to the whereabouts of our dinner. He apologized and informed us that it should be on its way momentarily, which was in fact the case. The filet was cooked properly as ordered, and did not disappoint, and the macaroni and cheese was creamy and cheesy. The chicken was served borderline undercooked, and probably would have been sent back, if I didn't fear that if we had done so we may still be sitting there waiting for its return. The biggest joke was the "Loaded" baked potato, which was described as "Salt crusted" and served with "butter, sour cream, scallions, Kenny's Cheddar Cheese, and bacon". A potato from the 90's Wendy's salad bar would have outperformed this $15 abomination. I can go on and on.... they no longer serve the variety of breads and spreads prior to the meal, now it's simply rolls that would be at home at any chain restaurant. The "carts" that were formerly presented tableside to allow patrons to choose cheeses, fresh seafood, and desserts, are apparently no longer a thing here. The whole experience was such a letdown, especially after how wonderful the place used to be. There is a sea of fine restaurants in the area, and more are opening up each year, and Matt Winn's needs to fix whatever happened to it if they wish to remain relevant in the fine dining scene.

The food was great and very well seasoned. The ambience was great and it felt very fancy. Loved the balcony view. Service was top-tier.

Matt Winn's for the win! Happy early Valentine's Day to us! We started out with a few cocktails margarita for me and a moscow mule for Nick. I also tried a lilly. I would definitely go for a lilly again. Appetizers: -Shrimp cocktail -Ceasar salad Entrees were: 6oz filet oscar style with jumbo lump crab and bearnaise 16oz NY strip with black truffle butter and bearnaise All of their steaks are finished with warm roasted garlic and a parsley lemon emulsion. Sides included: -Whipped potatoes -Crispy Brussel Sprouts w/ Romesco Aioli, Pistachio and Kenny's Kentucky Rose Those brussel sprouts had so many of the perfectly crispy pieces Nick and I fight over at home. Dessert here is presented tableside on a rolling cart! Everything looked delicious but we went with two options. -The flourless chocolate cake topped with a mixed berry compote. -The Bon Bons were delicious and creamy. There were about 8 varieties, but we picked 3. Overall this was a great experience! We loved the old school decor and the atmosphere. I would definitely rank this place in my top 5 for Louisville Just in case you are interested you can buy a table for 4 for Oaks and Derby for $40,000. That does not include any food and drink. It is just the cost of admission!

This restaurant is getting ZERO stars and here is why.. we had reservations 2 months in advance for 14 people. When we arrived, the restaurant was basically empty. We were given two servers, who were obviously extremely inexperienced. Drink orders were not taken correctly and that should've been the sign to leave the restaurant, but we didn't everyone ordered a steak of which, almost half the people how to send theirs back just to get warmed up. Sides showed up very late after the steaks. I asked for the manager, Chris and he came to our table. He said we weren't ready for a group your size. Then why did they take the reservation. He then proceeded to walk away and hide from us the rest of the night. When I approached him again, and said how disappointed we were that he didn't take ownership of this to reduce or Bill to offer a free dessert he said nothing, and walked away. Save your money and go to outback steakhouse the food will be better and so will the experience.

We visited to celebrate the end of a hard diet & exercise regiment. It was cold & quite a walk from the parking lot to restaurant. I saw several post about a golf cart but didn't seen one in sight. Atmosphere was nice. View was amazing & you're overlooking the track. Our server was very knowledgeable. I was there for the oysters & was NOT disappointed. 10/10. We both got petite filet, I added lump crab to mine. Cooked medium, steak was cooked to perfection but needed more seasoning. (4/5 because I was really looking forward to the steak). Sides we got included mac & cheese & fries. I prefer a creamy Mac so I wasn't a fan but hubs enjoyed it. I'm a potato fan so fries were great. Dessert was vegan strawberry shortcake. It wasn't what I expected as it was cold, but still good. Would go back for the atmosphere & service.

Fun night with out of town friends! So we had heard the hype about this place so we had to check it out... we took our friends from out of town to check it out on a Friday night. The first thing we noticed was that the place was absolutely dead! Maybe 4-5 tables in the entire restaurant? Very strange, but the service and food was good. Kinda bummed the place was so dead and yet they still sat us in the middle of the restaurant with no view? Wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Would like to try again... :) Steaks were great, tuna was amazing and the calamari was delicious but just a tad undercooked. You can step outside and take photos, visit and drink and hangout while you wait for your food too!

Andrew was our server he offered top notch service. There is a female manager she made us feel welcome she gave us a genuine vibe. Being a former military man and able to have had a chance to visit restaurant all over the world. This has to be be in my top five. I even booked my Valentine's Day reservation because I was confident the food was going to be good. If you haven't tried this restaurant you really should.

So I went there as a group. We had a set limited menu. They failed to tell our group that there was a dress code until practically the day of travel for our group. Most of us did not come well dressed, and the looks from other patrons you could feel. So let's do the good and bad. Good: The steak and side dishes where absolutely to die for. I had the fillet cooked medium. It was perfectly cook. The mashed potatoes where creamy, buttery, and just awesome. The brussel spouts were superb. I sweath the steak melted in your mouth. Juicy, flavorful. 100% recommend. The bad: Without a doubt, 100%, it was the appetizers. The salad was lacking. Both salads were lacking. They literary brought out a head of romaine. The wedge salad was literary a 1/4 wedge of lettuce with some stuff on the side. We all joked how it was such bad presentation. I had the French onion soup.... that was more like heavily salted French onion gravy. Couldn't even finish half. So gross. Needed to be cut down with some broth badly. Dessert: It was good. Not great, not bad, paired well with dinner. It was good. Do not let my review of the appetizers stop you from the main course. Seriously. The main corse was amazing and perfect. Oh yeah, bring your money, cause it will cost you a good chunk. However, the steak and sides were worth it.

Fairly disappointed with our dinner experience last night, especially when you considered it was $600 for 4 adults! My steak was not cooked per my order, first strike. A steak house that can't get a medium rare steak perfect has issues in the kitchen. Sides were OK, nothing special. And the cheesecake & pear tart desserts tasted like they came from the freezer section at Kroger. Additionally the service, while nice, was a little less than attentive. No water refills, entrees before wine, etc. Especially since there was only 2 parties in the area of the restaurant where we were. Very slow night and still the service is not what I expected from a highly rated steakhouse at CD. Nice view, but not what I would classify as good food or service. We will not be back.

This is a great place to eat in Churchill downs, but quite expensive. Located on the 6th floor with a balcony area overlooking the race track. We did go on a race day and saw 3 races during our early dinner. Overall, the place made solid steaks. I had the filet mignon with bernaise sauce. I ordered a medium but ended up with a medium rare. The steak was still good but I pad $61 and didn't get exactly what I wanted. The sides were solid; the mac and cheese and brussel sprouts were good. I got the mint julep, which tasted about the same as the one at the race track but just more expensive; wasn't impressed with the cocktail. The best part of the meal was the bread and the dessert cart. They probably have one of the best bakeries I've ever had. They had a great strawberry butter that was filled with syrup in the middle. The dessert cart was quite an experience. They have some amazing pastries and the presentation was unique. We were the first table to get dessert that night so it was very well stocked. Got a large assortment of chocolate and pastries. This is a unique experience to check out at the race track. Definitely recommended if you are here for a race.

Initially drawn to Matt Winn's because of its location and atmosphere, our expectations were exceeded during our dining experience. From the initial warm greeting, to our professional yet personable server, Carla, and the perfectly prepared food - wonderful experience all around. We would recommend the pony board for sharing, the steaks and specialty cocktails - especially The Charred Stave, really cool presentation.

Average service at a super high price. Great bourbon selection. Food was above average but I just can't get o er the average service. I don't think $300 per person should be under staffed to this extent.

Nobody working the host building outside the gates, so we're late getting upstairs & making reservation. Location & build out are first class(especially during night racing) betting machines with human attendant outside doors was also nice touch. Server was super friendly & Knowledgeable & manager even stopped by the table. Food was slightly above average. Wife ordered filet (med. rare) Oscar style & it was noticeably over cooked. She hates returning food so she just ate it. Wine list & bourbon list were 2nd to none. If it weren't over looking the finish line it'd be hard to justify some of the prices, especially since the sides were separate. For the $ I'd rather go to Ruby's or LeMoo. Especially if the ponies weren't running.

Service was excellent,food could have been better but the overall experience was nice, the people who helped us were amazing and I am thankful to have spent my Veterans Day there!!!! The atmosphere was great as well.

Our group each got the 10 oz filet. Group sides included potatoes, brussel sprouts, and macaroni. Brussel sprouts were hands down my favorite. They had a zingy Thai sauce that was incredible. Fun drink menu as well. Was slightly disappointed that several menu items were unavailable including the oysters and 6 oz petite filet. Filet was slightly over cooked but overall very good food with a great view of the track.

Just got home from a wonderful dinner at Matt Winn's. It was the most spectacular experience we have ever had in Louisville. Andrew (our server), was not good, was not great, he was the BEST!! He could teach a Masters Class in customer service!!! In fact, the entire crew is just fantastic!!! The food was on point and the ambience is exactly what we were looking for. We cannot wait to return! Thanks to everyone for a perfect dinner!!!

I went here with my bridesmaid as a wedding planning treat, and it was a marvelous dinner. The chef perfectly cooked the steak while also preparing a traditional French onion soup, a cheese and meets plate and two perfect types of potatoes. The dessert was made by Ashley who excels across the board; I loved my pot de cream with white chocolate and strawberries. The server Tara was super helpful, and was also kind. It was a wonderful experience

Well, that was disappointing. The four of us were so hoping for a memorable experience. From start to finish our evening was nothing but a series of missteps, starting with crappy table in an empty restaurant with a young, inexperienced waitstaff desperately in need of formal training. 1. Finished 1st course of oysters on the half shell without ever receiving drink order. Never given seafood forks. Oyster compliments served in tiny cubes and impossible to access with salad or entree forks. A real mess. Oysters not shucked properly or completely. 2. Still waiting on drinks 3. Second round of appetizers served. Had to ask for oyster shells and dirty plates to be removed. Arancini different and quite tasty albeit not really prepared properly. Interior rice completely mush. Informed by waiter that they are out of STOLI vodka for martinins, made substitutions. 4. 3 of 4 drinks finally make it to table. My dirty martini barely chilled, blue cheese olives very good. No bread on table. 5. Dinner orders placed. Dirty appetizer plates remain on table. Salads placed in front of wrong individuals. Water glasses empty, still no bread. Well dressed gentleman canvasing dining room who is obviously management never approaches our table to see how things are going, prefers to hang with Host upfront at hostess stand. There are five tables in this beautiful, large restaurant.Wine arrived promtly and served correctly. 6. Salads arrive. A Ceasar and a Wedge. Good God, mediocre at best. Neither with any personality or worth the price. Dinners pretty much the same. Petit filets were tender and cooked to the requested temperature although not seasoned at all and topped, without any prior warning, with several gloves of roasted garlic that did not compliment or pair well with the bearnaise. Short Rib entree deemed fair, maybe lukewarm. NY Strip was tough, 1/2 of which came home for the dogs. Baked potato and mashed sweet potatoes were both served cold and sent back with manager that had to be flagged down. Sweet Potato replacement came to table now lukewarm, and second baked potato was not cooked through nor rubbed with salt. Neither were eaten, but were removed from final bill. 7. Considering the overall experience we opted out of dessert and coffee and went to die-hard favorite dessert joint on the way home. Bottom Line: So much potential, but not worth the hype or the price. Although the service staff were all very nice, not in any way trained for a high level of service. After spending hundreds of dollars on a average at best dinner, my husband is currently making a ham sandwich. SO disappointing.

Excellent dinning experience. The entire experience was perfect from the cocktails to the dessert. The next time I'm in Louisville I will be back.

This place shouldn't exist in Louisville. It is such an experience dinning here you forget you're still in the city. Upon arrival you're greeted with a golf cart ride to the restaurant. Once inside you follow the red carpet to the elevator, which had the sweetest attendant that took us up to the 6th floor. The restaurant is sprawling and very wonderfully designed. The dinner and drinks didn't disappoint either, but the real joy came from the dessert cart. They roll out the largest cart that resembled a small food truck. After dinner we enjoyed the patio that overlooks the infield, it was delightful. I can't really explain how wonderful this place is, there's really no other place in Louisville that can compare. If you're looking for an experience check this place out, it won't disappoint.

Absolute diamond of a place in Louisville. We love going to Churchill Downs generally, but this experience was a new one and a great one. They pick you up in a golf cart to take you to the elevator and the 5 star service just continues. The steak was delicious and I could eat the Mac and cheese by the bucket fool. Our server was so kind as to step outside and take pictures of us as well with CD a in the background. We will be back again for sure.

Look out Jeff and Ruth, the competition just heated up. Matt Winn's Steakhouse is here and it's winning. Amazing. Everything was impeccable. Beautiful new facility, ridiculous selection of bourbon and wine. Top notch service and the food was ! If you hear about the truffle custard egg - get it. OMG. Raw bar selections were exceptional. Kung Pao calamari is fantastic. Excellent steaks and sides. Don't wait. Go now. You'll be glad you did.

Our first time here, as we don't get out a lot for date nights due to our children. The addition of Michael Crouch to the Winn team brought us here, and we were absolutely amazed. The venue is beautiful, and the elegant charm of Michael made our experience that much better. We will certainly be back soon! Cheers Mr. Crouch and team!

I took a good girlfriend of mine here, as she's in town from florida. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING. Tara (our sever) was just fantastic. we started off with a thinly sliced scallop that just blew our mind, i believe the gentleman that prepared it was named Ryan, the app was SO balanced. the steak just melts in your mouth and the dessert cart was unbelievable, we even got to meet the pastry chef, Ashley. 10/10 would recommend.

Everything about this place is top notch. Drinks, Food, Service, Ambiance, all 5 stars. I had the 10oz filet with red wine Demi glacé & butter poached lobster tail, it couldn't have been better. Dessert cart was to die for, tons of options. Service was impeccable from the moment I pulled up to valet. Golf cart ride to the building, escorted to the elevator, concierge was wonderful & welcoming. My server was Shayna & her assistant was Jackson... I cannot say enough about them & will always request their service any time I dine here, I highly suggest you do the same. Manager dropped off wrapped pralines after the check came & the concierge gave out a gift bag with Derby & Lily glasses, hand sanitizer & flavored popcorn. You can't go wrong at Matt Winn's. Tip top notch all the way, worth every penny.

So I'll start with here. I called got seats for a anniversary dinner. Seats were excellent as I requested, Waiter gave excellent service till the end and really after thinking about it it wasn't his fault Both of us ordered steaks which were ok for the price but was a little dry. We had asked for some to go boxes and another gentleman not our waiter came to the table got our left over food and was suppose to bring back to the table. The waiter brought our check and we paid bit continued to wait for the food but it was never given back to us. I wasn't going to wait in which was already 20 min after I paid . No thank you for the evening no hey we will make this a special occasion because of the anniversary. Hopefully this won't happen yo you

Very nice restaurant with a beautiful view of Churchill downs. Staff were very friendly and was excited to see new faces. The food was wonderful for an overall great date night with my wife.

I'm so upset to post this. We wanted to have the best experience for our 9th anniversary and heard great things about this place. We new it was very expensive but was willing to pay for the best for this night. Started out, they served us a room temperature $72 bottle of Moscato. They did ask if I wanted to wait 20 minutes for them to chill it. But we didn't want to wait and why would we. The scallops appetizer was amazing and the Cesar salad had a heavy anchovy flavor. More than I liked and I think it made me sick after I got home. But the worst part of it was the $75 filet's. We both ordered Medium and mine was slightly over cooked but edible but my wife's was extremely raw as seen in the pics. She tried not to say anything and ate a couple bites which led to her rushing to restroom and ruined her appetite and made this special anniversary night a bust. The manager did comp the filet's and told us he had a new kitchen cook and this would be a learning experience. Is that supposed to make us feel better that your charging a premium price for bad cooks. We'll it didn't.

My husband and I went with friends last nights and had an amazing time! The smoked salmon salad that came with the Winner's Circle Grand Plateau raw & chilled seafood selection and the French onion soups were my absolute favorites! I also highly recommend the Charred Stave cocktail! My massive filet was cooked perfectly and service was exceptional! If you're looking for a special occasion restaurant in Louisville, you can't beat the food or the ambiance here!

Decent experience if you stop at the complimentary bread. Novel experience with a restaurant at The Downs but at this price point, they really need a new chef (the food was bad) and an extensive course in service for the waitstaff. We arrived to a beautiful, classic interior ready to be wowed. However, our party of 6 grew increasingly anxious when drinks took 30+ minutes to come out. I personally ordered a double and received a watery cocktail. Then complimentary bread took another 30 minutes; there were 2 bread selections, both delicious, with an array of yummy butters. A few of us split salads, and they did separate plates for us, which we appreciated. They also came pretty quickly post-order. I particularly enjoyed the house made blue cheese dressing on the wedge salad. Things took a downward turn after this. Food took another hour to arrive, and was very subpar. My steak personally was over cooked, and others in the party commented on poor cohesion of flavors in their dishes. Out of 4 different sides, only the whipped potatoes were well-received. Lastly they have a dessert cart we ordered from, which does offer another fun touch. Our checks were incorrect, and the overall process was chaotic. Even after receiving the correct itemization, I was charged more for an item than what was listed on the menu; pretty annoying when everything seemed overpriced already. The waiters were nice but left much to be desired in the area of actual service. We also all HATED the satin napkins as they kept sliding off our laps and were functionally useless-- they should stick with traditional cotton. Overall, the experience was subpar as I would expect much more from a fine dining establishment. Since they're new we hope they'll work out the kinks, but for now skip here and go to Jeff Ruby's!
