Overall the place seemed a bit run down, the lodge bedroom itself is okay, beds were decently comfy, bathroom needs updating, top bunk had gum underneath it. Location is good, facing the street is really loud though because of the bar. Did seem expensive compared to other places I've stayed. They were really good at accommodating our check in time which was awesome. Also for 2 nights we were given 12gb of wifi which I thought was really good, wifi worked really well.

The staff were super helpful and friendly to me! I’m definitely going to opt for hostels like this one over big ones like Base or YHA. I was here during the slow season, so I only shared the 6 person dorm with 1 other girl. It had a clean kitchen, nice lounging areas, and a nice selection of books. The location couldn’t be any better! You are right across from the Salvation Army shop (tons of great finds) and the Irish pub (live music every night). Loved it.

Comfortable and accommodating. We stayed in a separate room with our 16mth old daughter. Friendly staff who even loaned us a jogging pram so we get out for a run together. Reasonable pricing, central and convenient location. We'd stay again. (Mar2017)

The hostel had two sections: the lodge and the backpackers. The backpackers is old, ran down and noisy (easy to fix stuff like squeaking doors, locks that are hardly functioning and doors that only close if you slam them shut) and in dire need of some maintenance. Facilities are relatively clean but rooms are dark (missing lightbulbs) and dusty. The lodge section looked decent, however, but unfortunately fully booked.

For a backpackers lodge, it's really not bad. We were looking for the cheapest, vacant accommodation on the day-of that still had a private bedroom and bathroom, and this was it. While I want to say it's no frills, the rooms still actually had some of the hotel-like basics like an AC heatpump, bathroom heater, a little TV, very tiny fridge, and 1GB free WiFi with voucher code on arrival. Otherwise, it's a backpackers lodge without being a hostel, so there's an old communal kitchen, dining spaces indoors and out, and coin washing machine and dryers. If you're trying to save money, this place is good enough to have a night in. The bathrooms are interesting as it's all one floor of shower to toilet and sink, but it's angled so the water stays in with the curtain. The lady at the counter was soft spoken but helpful in getting replacement remotes for the AC. It's surprisingly not too noisy either if your windows are closed and facing more inwards than roadside.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay. Awesome location, very close to town centre, shops etc. Room was a fair size and included ensuite. WiFi was reliable. Kitchen was pretty run down and had weird smell. TV room was also a little tired. Overall, good value.

The first staff I've encounter insist of me paying Higher price to stay in the Cheaper dorm. But the other one does. Obviously she's not helpful at all and definitely not a friendly one. This short hair lady don't even give a smile and nor a good communication with guest. Overall place isn't really clean though.

One of the best hostels I’ve been to in NZ! Has a nice looking patio, fairly cheap laundry ($2 a load), very nice looking rooms with comfortable beds & all in all great value for money... Very friendly & helpful staff!!
