A Review of The Junto in Columbus, Ohio | Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"A quirky, cattle-themed lobby coffee shop named for Ohio State’s 1926 homecoming queen—er, cow—offering quick bites, espresso drinks and dairy-free latte options in playful surroundings that nod to agricultural heritage."

Through the chaos of classes and long winter quarters, this was the place I kept coming back to. The cozy fireplaces made it feel like a little retreat in the middle of campus. I loved how there were different seating arrangements—whether I needed a quiet corner to study, a big table for group projects, or just a soft chair to curl up with a drink and decompress. The drinks were consistently good, but it was really the atmosphere that kept me grounded. There's a calm, comforting energy here that made it feel like more than just a café—it felt like a second home.

The coffee is absolutely delicious and the atmosphere and vibe is just as great! They offer really unique and decadent drinks you can’t find anywhere else in the city. Scott was amazing and made me one of the best lattes I have ever had!

Banana bread latte was a good latte, but didn’t taste like banana bread at all. Atmosphere was super cool, definitely a good study spot.

A very modern, vibey, & chic coffee spot. I love the branding and overall look. Great variety of drinks and flavors. Inside of the Junto, the seating area is super cozy, with a lot of soft seating options along with tables and chairs in the actual cafe. The 2 times I’ve been, it was a little slow to get our drinks but it wasn’t horribly long. I’m excited to go when it’s warm out!

Small coffee shop connected to a fun and cozy hotel lobby with ample seating and a nice outdoor area. The prices are very high (likely due to being in a hotel) and they are insanely slow. From ordering to receiving two lattes was ~30. The staff was friendly and they were working hard, they just seem to lack a system or adequate staffing to handle periods of rush. They serve One Line Coffee, which is great. There is a One Line right down the street that is a bit faster if you walk in and there's a huge line.

On a cold, drizzly Sunday morning, a friend and I found the perfect refuge at Maudine’s Café. Nestled inside The Junto hotel, this charming spot offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a great stop whether you’re staying at the hotel or just looking for a cozy place to unwind. After picking up our order, we made our way to the lounge area, where plush couches and a thoughtfully designed working library provided the perfect setting to relax. Maudine’s boasts a sizable menu of coffees, hot beverages, and comforting food options. I opted for their biscuit and a hot cinnamon honey chai—both were absolutely fantastic. The biscuit was buttery and satisfying, while the chai had just the right balance of warmth and spice. It was the perfect snack to enjoy while settling in and catching up with a friend. While I had a great experience overall, I did notice that orders took a while to come out. In fact, my biscuit order wasn’t made until I went back up to the counter to remind them. However, the staff was friendly and quick to correct the mistake, and they got my order out right away. Despite the slight delay, Maudine’s is a wonderful spot for a warm drink, a bite to eat, and a cozy atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back!

I was excited to try this unique coffee shop, which appeared to be a hidden gem. I waited in line, and when the counter lady called me to order, I curiously asked about one of their seasonal blueberry lemonade cafe drinks that caught my eye. Before I could even finish my inquiry about the drink, she rudely, without even looking up at me, demands that she had never had it before and loudly stated “you’ll have to order it and try it for yourself.” I had just been conversing with a few clients of mine who stood right behind me - I felt so humiliated and embarrassed that she was so rude and nasty. I would hope that small businesses train their employees to extend warmth and courtesy - she did not reflect any type of training or professionalism. I kindly declined and left without ordering; but it would have been nice to have had a friendlier encounter for a new client trying to support a business. I ended just going to Starbucks, and the universe paid it forward when the cashier at Starbucks gave me my order for free when their systems wouldn’t accept the QR code for mobile payment.

Definitely the most expensive drink I ever purchased $16.00 for the drink $2.00 for the tip, and $9.00 for parking. I went here for an experiment, and let's say that I wasn't surprised. I knew the drink itself was going to be more than I pay anywhere else, but mostly surprised that they don't validate parking at the garage across the street from the hotel. Whether it's by design or not, they won't get many locals to visit.
