We’ve seen a number of shows at “The MACC” and all were wonderful. From stand up comedy to traditional Hawaiian singers and orchestral bands. The seats are a little old but it’s easy to get in and out and all the folks who work there are so nice.

Beautiful open-air grassy lawn with lots of room for seated and GA concert goers. Chicago gave a great performance, as always. There's additional parking directly across the street at the Community College, with police assistance at the crosswalk.

Typical swap meet, flea market.. 75 cents admission fee, non-issue. Parking is very accessible, and plenty room to walk around. Miscellaneous prices everywhere, each vendor sets their own. Lots of fresh fruits, and imported Chinese items. Not too many authentic items, but decent enough for some souvenirs for your loved ones.

Trying to buy tickets for a show. Website insists I log in. Does not work. Try to change my password. Does not work. Try calling them. No one answers. Send them email. No answer. Website says no tickets sold at show, only online. HOW DO THEY STAY IN BUSINESS?!?!?!

Fabulous concert with the Maui Pops and stars from Broadway playing music from Disney! The acoustics were excellent and the staff were very helpful and kind. Mahalo

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center is a true gem, offering a diverse range of performances, exhibits, and community events. The open-air lawn is perfect for concerts under the stars, while the Castle Theater provides an intimate indoor experience. Parking is convenient, especially with additional space at the community college. Whether you're here for a live show, an art exhibit, or a cultural festival, the MACC is a must-visit for both locals and visitors looking to experience Maui’s vibrant arts scene.

The art is always the same, there’s nothing new or fresh ever accepted into the galleries and it’s honestly disappointing. Don’t try to be original in anyway, or at least have status if you want to be accepted. I’ve tried year after year, and have an extensive resume and they’d still rather select something you’ve seen 1000x times before and I’ve just had it with giving them money and supporting them. Also the events will take your vapes lol

This venue is tried and true. Large enough for a crowd of 5000, this afternoon-to-evening fundraiser, for Maui fire victims delivered, for 3000- supporters, neighbors, and family members. Hosted by Henry Kapono with incredible talents like Amy Hanaiali'i, Tavana, Brother Noland, Kalapana, and Robert Cazimero, it was truly, an incredible event and a worthy cause. Offering terrific food trucks, great security staff, and commerative merchandise, the Maui Arts and Cultural Center provided an unforgettable experience for our united community.

Yelp
I love our MACC. I would give it five stars because the events are so well run and the myriad of musicians and events and free entertainment is so appreciated. I am dinging it a star because the box office is NOT usually open or available for the concerts I attend. Doing everything on line is fine if you don't charge me a fee to purchase on line when there is no other option. I feel gouged by the numerous fees when I am printing out my own ticket or using a bar code on my phone. I appreciate that they have donation bins for Maui food bank at each event. Security staff is kind and reasonable. It is so easy to have a good time there with the stellar line up of entertainment. I usually try to line an event up with visitors as it is on my "A" tour of Maui. There is nothing like local tunes as the sun sets and the stars come out. See you at the Slack Key Fest!

Yelp
Attended a Southwest concert with Russell Dickerson and Lily Meola. The concert was wonderful. It's just that the venue is outdoors. There are cold winds and bugs that bite. It was difficult to eat on the tables with the cold winds blowing us around. I missed assigned chairs like at the Blaisdell Center. The bathrooms are clean and have many stalls. The parking lot was very dark and could use a few more lightpoles.

Yelp
I've all this was an OK experience. The food before the show I felt was very overpriced for what was offered. The highlight of the night was pre show music. It was amazing. I was there for a Leslie Jones comedy show. The seats were all pretty good. The ushers were great. Everyone I interacted with was very helpful and kind. I would likely go to another show here, but I would definitely eat before arriving.

Yelp
This was a great place to see a concert!! It was outdoors so bring a light sweater if you go to an evening show. Do NOT hesitate to get tickets! You'll have a great time. The event we attended had only a few vendors and food trucks. The lines for food and drinks were LONG. We enjoyed hearing the music and watching the hula dancers at the event we went to.

Yelp
Don't miss Schaeferl Gallery when you're at the MACC. There are so many wonderful exhibits during the year. I promise you will be impressed. Easy to find .Lots of parking. Many of the exhibits have special events to meet the artists and family workshops.

Yelp
Differing Abilities Insensitivty @ Kapena Concert We were super excited to see the reunion of Kapena and relive our younger days from 40 years ago!! My group was 60 and 70 yr olds who splurged on VIP tickets ($87 with fees). We were well aware there was no reserved seats. We went early 5:10 for 6pm start. Since when does "no reserved seating" translate to "NO seating" or a very limited amount of seating? For avid concert goers, no reserved seating more commonly translates to "Open Seating" especially when purchasing VIP tickets. Shame on you MACC!! This essential ommision demonstrates a lack of sensitivity for people with differing abilities (not wheelchair bound but unable to stand for prolonged periods 5+ hours). This critical condition was not communicated until we arrive. Workers informed us this was a "standing only" concert. My party did not require wheelchair accommodation. They were simply unable to stand for 5+ hours. We deserved to know the conditions in advance so as to make appropriate decisions based on our ability. Sadly, we would not have attended. You did a great job communicating tickets were non-refundable. Why couldnʻt the standing only or limited seating condition have been communicated as clearly? You need to do better and know your audience. On a positive note, I would like to acknowledge Lisa and Luana who went above and beyond to help us resolve an issue with so much Aloha. My party and I will be forever grateful.

Yelp
The MACC is one of Maui's largest venues for hosting big names. Famous comedian? They're at the MACC. Concerts? MACC. Really cool local event to support the arts? MACC. Parking on site is limited and there's overflow parking across the street. They've got food and a bar that's usually open before events so you can come early and hang out then catch the show. I really love this space!

Yelp
Whoa, what went wrong at the recent UB40 concert guys? It was an absolute disaster! Such a let down :( Parking: full up totally and we had to park on the beach road 1/4 mile away and walk in the dark beside traffic to get to the traffic lights where the line started to get into the concert! Tip: take a flash light with you next concert as you will have crazy traffic around you in the dark with no side walk from parking. Line to get in: We got there at 6.30pm (we live on the west side and work so this was the earliest we could make it, especially as we have traffic works in Lahaina after the fire) and the line was all the way to the beach road and this was for people who bought $65 + tickets! We had to queue for 1 HOUR to get into the venue so we missed Ekolu the supporting band, who are fantastic, which was an absolute shame :( Security was standing on the walls and letting in their friends ahead of everyone which was annoying. Bar: We weren't told while in the line that you needed a wrist band and ID check for drinks so we had to find out from people around us. (Why didn't they go down the line and organise wristbands while we waited in line?) There was no signs for the wrist band area and the place was heaving with people. We were packed in like sardines, if the fire department had been there they would have closed it down as it was far too overcrowded. We waited in line for 20 mins to get a wrist band but the line was not defined and security kept coming along and screaming at us to get in line. I was told to move back and couldn't as there was a tree and a garbage bin beside me so they pushed me back into the tree! After we finally got our bands we had to go to the beer tent which was basically a corral like sheep shearing, which was full, and we waited 30 mins for a drink as they were totally understaffed. During this time UB40 came on and we missed a good portion of the concert stuck in a line that wasn't moving, unable to get out. $10 for a small beer, $10 for small wine. 2 drink max per person. Facilities: standing room only, no chairs allowed in and people who brought rugs to sit on were getting trampled, you couldn't see the stage so thank god they had a jumbotron. We basically had to stand the entire night in a variety of lines. Toilets were definitely a no go with that many people. Security and staffing: A complete joke! Woefully understaffed, security nice to those they knew, no information, and signage they did have was table height so you couldn't see it with so many people standing like sardines in a tin. People in lines were surging forward and flooding lines so you were missing your turn if you didn't fight to get to the front. UB40 were great - I went club hopping dancing to them in London in the 80s - they played all the greats and faves. Ekolu I'm going to catch up with you at an easier venue, your music is fantastic and I'm excited we have you on Maui. In future I will only go to indoor shows at the MACC with numbered seating. But coming from the west side it is going to be difficult to get parking!

Yelp
Attending the Broadway Pops Concert at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center's Castle Theatre. Beautiful setting at the base of the mountains. Lovely open air cafe with courtyard setting serving drinks, snacks, and meals. The theatre offers a variety of acts including Maul's youth orchestra, comedienne's, vocalists and other performing groups. I highly recommend checking what is playing and booking well in advance.

Yelp
Great venue whether show is outside or in the Castle or McCoy theaters. Highly recommend it their sound systems are wonderful. If it's outside they usually have a full bar open where u can buy adult drinks and a few food trucks which is nice. We have never been disappointed with any show/concert/movie we've seen here. Check it out

Yelp
I love this place and we went recently to the local art museum located inside the MACC. They have new displays routinely and worth stopping by. I meant to take a photo of the front of the museum to help folks find it. No photos are allowed inside. My friend and I spent a good hour walking around viewing the special handmade items all locally made. We learned so much rich hawaiian history which I loved. Just wished this was open when I lived here as a child. I would have come here a lot. Check out their entertainment and events on their website. I hope you enjoy the MACC as much as we do! Love it!

Yelp
My love-hate relationship with the MACC has turned for the worse. Here's my story. Years ago, I took in two concerts inside of the Castle Theater, Bruno Mars and Chris Daughtry. The acoustics were so bad that all you could hear was background music and zero vocals. Only because I knew the songs did I know what they were singing. On top of that, you're not allowed to eat or drink inside of the "church" is what I like to call it. I've been to world class theaters around the world and they wouldn't think of banning food & beverage inside. I can accept the sitting down rule and getting up to dance if everyone else is doing it, but overall, I'd rather be outdoors. Numerous acts have come through, mostly aging-artists of national fame and small country names of today, both of which I passed on either because they were inside of the "church" or I didn't want to see them in general. Patiently waiting for a big-name act to arrive, I get an email that 98° is coming. Partially excited as I liked their music back in the 2000's, I was ecstatic that it was set for the Yokouchi Pavilion & Amphitheater which meant it's outdoors. I check out the different ticket prices which ranged from $49 for general admission all the way up to $140-something for VIP. Having had so much fun at a recent UB40 concert in the VIP section, I was set on those tickets as we were right up against the stage standing up or you could steal a chair from nearby to sit if you like. We also had a segregated bar and bathrooms (I know, sounds horrible but that's what it is) which were awesome. I head down to the box office and ask questions. Every ticket price point (4 or so) had assigned seating except for general admission. Ugh. Not wanting to sit arm-to-touching arm next to a stranger, I chose general admission so we could roam around instead. THE LAST STRAW: Not two weeks prior to the concert, I get an email from the MACC stating that the concert was being moved indoors. INTO THE CHURCH. Instructions were to go down to the box office, again, to exchange the outdoor tickets for "comparable indoor seats" as they'd be void. Any tickets in will call would be changed automatically. I'm assuming this change happened because they couldn't sell enough tickets? So what!? Keep it outdoors!? I head down and first ask if a refunded can be given. Of course the answer was "no". Because I had outdoor general admission tickets, the new indoor general admission seating was at the tippy top of the theater and on a first come, first served seating basis. Now, not only are we forced to sit, we're not even guaranteed a seat or even seats together!? And food or beverage inside? Forget about it! Come on, MACC. I understand that things happen but you shouldn't punish your clientele with a change in venue and not even make an exception on refunds as a lot of people make decisions solely on that! DISGUST: I ended up giving away my tickets to a very deserving couple as I did not want to deal with claiming possibly limited seats and fighting the crowds. This already left me with a sour note so I prefer not to even deal with it at all. OVERALL: The whole operation is very backwards and is stick in a rut. We've been MACC members for years now but will not be renewing our membership. Only free events for me here from now on.

Yelp
Purchased last minute VIP tickets to see Paul Simon. Purchased online, but visited a day prior to pick up my tickets from will call (saw Paul Simon rehearsing when picking up my tickets). Parking? Parked across the street at the college for a charge. Entry? Fairly smooth, but some confusion as to our VIP tickets. I had the impression that because this was an event where proceeds were going to Biodiversity Conservation, there were many volunteers helping out. Drinks? You had to purchase Scrip to purchase drinks. Again, proceeds went to charity, so it was for a good cause. However, there was a separate section for VIP drinks, which we discovered later. Food? Lines were way too long and we did not grab a snack prior to the show (we grabbed a bite closer to the end of the show). Venue? Great outdoor venue. Awesome to sit under the moonlight & stars, drinking wine and listening to Paul Simon tunes.

Yelp
In March 2019 we went to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, Schaefer International Gallery, to see the 41st Annual Juried Exhibition. We went specifically to see the two paintings of Jeanne Young, my friend's artist acquaintance from their days in Naknek, AK. Jeanne's paintings are: "Kula Farmers Market" and "The Stories We Can't Tell." I also enjoyed Robert Tomei's "Symphony of Creation" and Kurt KuroKawa's "At First." We liked the spacious gallery room in which the paintings were displayed, with plenty of room to stand back and view the largest paintings. and sculptures. However, for me, there is also pleasure in going right up to the painting to see the smallest details of the artist's medium and technique. We highly recommend that you visit this Center for future exhibits.

Yelp
Opening act same song over and over. Willie and Luka great. Also 4 food trucks for what seems like 3,000 people.

Yelp
Experience the full range of entertainment at the MACC! Performances from local, national and international artists are scheduled for your enjoyment. There are other activities going on here every day, too. We just attended their 25th anniversary party. 25 years ago, the MACC was built as a venue for shows that people would have to fly to Oahu to see. Now, the island practically revolves around the MACC. Check out their schedule for something that will thrill you, whether it's in the acoustically perfect theater or the open courtyard amphitheater.

Yelp
I love the MACC. It's a gorgeous venue for all types of events, everything from fundraisers and art exhibits to country concerts and comedy shows. They really do their best to bring in a variety of entertainers and headliners at reasonable prices. MACC's main Castle Theater is a lovely theater with nice acoustics for concerts, plays, and other shows and events. The outdoor pavilion area is also lovely and a great way to enjoy a fun concert on an open lawn under the stars. For most events, the MACC brings in a variety of food vendors and serves up your favorite alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at the bar. There is ample parking at the MACC parking lot. If that is full, there are plenty of parking spots at UH Maui College and the park next door.

Yelp

Yelp
How can you not give this Fantastic Community Organization Five Stars. Over the years I have been to dozens of shows here. Always greeted by retired Volunteers at entrance. The grounds are ready for the event lawns mowed theaters clean the sound for every event I have went too was acceptable, and most events the sound was Excellent. It one of the few places on the Island were you can see the Young the Old and the Privileged and Rest of Us at the same event. Also let's not forget get the Solar Farm on the property. Recently they created and area for a food court off the main lawm for larger shows which is a nice touch. Keep the events coming.

Yelp
We have been going to the Maui arts and cultural center since it opened. The center has been a huge bonus for Maui's community. Last night we saw Steve Earle in the MCoy theater. Phil Lesh and friends were playing at the same time in the main concert hall. There was plenty of parking because I think both shows were not completely sold out. Good food at both venues from different restaurants. Two bars in each location as well. Very comfortable seating especially the castle theater which is the biggest theater. The volunteers are great everything is very organized. Love going to shows here. I would highly suggest it to anyone that's never been or any of our visitors.

Yelp
Except for Art!!! You are a piece of terrible art & should not be on the payroll here!! You're welcome for making all the VIP TICKET holders happy for the Ub40 concert. Let go of your ego.... your people volunteering don't like you !! You're a piece of terrible art!! The band liked hearing that they are terrible to work with... be careful about what you say!!

Yelp
What a perfect venue to see Jack Johnson, John Cruz and Paula Fuga!!! I can't rave about this concert and venue enough! It was our first time being here... had a hard time getting here (thanks Google Maps!) but upon arriving... all the stress and bickering that my sis and I had all disappeared. Parking: it was free!!! Folks... coming from the Bay Area... that was a shock! Drinks: Under $10 for well mixed drinks! What!? They don't cheap out on alcohol either... the bartender that mixed my drink... decided to pour the Absolut Citron (yes, they didn't have Hanger One there...) and just a dab of OJ. Needless to say... I was buzzing after a couple of sips. Women's bathroom: wow... either tourist / locals are clean or the Bay Area concert venues just suck! They kept it clean and well stocked... plus the concert goers were so ALOHA... no whining or b*tching during the line and it moved pretty darn fast! Venue: AMAZING! We managed to seat orchestra level... and had a good view of Jack, John and Paula. It was an acoustic setting so it was just truly them... with their guitars / ukelele and their wonderful voice. I could not believe I was hearing and seeing them live at such a wonderful venue! I don't think I can ever watch Jack Johnson anywhere but Hawaii. He was purely amazing. He sang most of his popular songs with some occasional story telling regarding the history of the song. Perfect.

Yelp
What a great venue to see a show! Smaller than most, more intimate and not a bad seat in the arts center. There is a lovely outdoor gathering area with tables and chairs for a convenient quick bite or drink. Bathroom was clean and spacious. Saw the Bill Maher New Years Eve Special and it was fantastic. Fun evening.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the island's main venue for major music and theater productions, hula, symphony, ballet, taiko drumming, drama, children's art, slack key guitar, popular music, acrobatics, storytelling, and more. In addition, the MACC is a frequent gathering place for community meetings and school events. I saw acoustic Hot Tuna here last year. Evidently, artists enjoy playing here as much as their audiences enjoy attending the shows. There were only a couple hundred people in the audience, but the group was still inspired enough to play an incredible, three hour set. There was also an extremely interesting multimedia art exhibit in the the adjacent building, which I had time to check out before the performance. http://www.mauiarts.org/

Yelp
This review is for the Hui Aloha Park by the cultural center. Very nice park for big and little kids. Bathroom. Great view!!

Yelp
This is the best location for Events especially Concerts. Parking can be a bitch sometimes (best to carpool) but everytime there's something going on over there they always have MPD & volunteers helping you in finding a parking spot. When they have Big Concerts its located outdoor courtyard with a stage & food trucks on the otherside of the courtyard. They split the 21 & over fr the underage with security & liquor. I usually like to stay on the underage side due to less crowded just suck you cant bring your liquor on that side (that's why you pregame before entering). I'm not a big fan of the Concert Hall due to the seats are super uncomfy and whoever is sitting next you, you are shoulder to shoulder. The stage is not really that big. It looks beautiful when you enter the building though.

Yelp
This place is GREAT!!!! All Seating is adequate to see & surprisingly comfortable. The Box Office Manager is AWESOME!!! This man truly cares for the people he serves. I love it when a man puts his heart in his career. Thank you Jasonfor going above & beyond to accommodate me & my hubby after our clear mistake. We will hold you & The MAC ever dear to our hearts. To top it all off.... The art exhibit was FAB!!!! We Love The Maui Arts & Culture Center
google avatar

Yelp
The MACC is the bomb! We love this arts and cultural center because we remember what it was like before they opened, and this is exactly what Maui needed. In fact we were at the very first event here, when Santana blew the doors off, about twenty two years ago. Since ten we've attended countless musical events, films, art shows and other fun things. It's a classy place and they really add to the rich fabric of our island's art scene. All the different venues make for a versatile way to showcase local and traveling artists and groups. There's small intimate spaces, mid size and large spaces, windoors and outdoors. A great gathering place for our unique community. It's a real treasure and we should all support them in their efforts to elevate and enrich our lives. They even have a lot of free programs and events such as the Slack Key Guitar Festival each year. Cheers to Pundy Yokouchi for having this awesome vision.

Yelp
This was our first visit to the MACC...it was during the 2014 Maui Brewfest that we visited and it was fabulous experience. Parking was easy to get into and the Outdoor area where the Brewfest was being held was absolutely gorgeous...Restrooms was cleaned, MACC Volunteer staff was friendly, helpful & efficient. We look forward to the 2015 Maui Brewfest and are already blocking off our vacation calendar for next year's event...

Yelp
Pretty sweet venue, if you ask me. I've been to the MACC a couple times, and am always stoked at the events they put on. If there is a band/group/artist that by chance is coming to Maui, chances are, they are playing at the MACC. I just went to one of their Art Mixxers, a free event that involves local musicians and artists and collaboration with your regular Joe's getting their drink on. We are lucky that this small of an island has a venue of this caliper. I was pleasantly surprised at their delicious snack offerings and reasonably priced alcohol. Some bars charge more for a beer, so if you can get a bottled Maui Brewing Co for $4 bucks at an event, that's a steal!
google avatar

Joanna S.

Yelp
I could not Find a link on their site to leave a review so I was forced to go to yelp we paid for VIP tickets for a show tonight and the regular bathrooms were in the VIP section and better than the VIP bathrooms the bar in the VIP area was cash only so we had to stand in line for the bar in the regular area it would've been nice to know all these details before the event. Normally we are on the grassy area and it's so organized . Way unorganized tonight and not worth the vip extra $

Yelp
My husband & I love going to the MACC for plays, starry night cinema weekends, concerts, comedy shows, art shows & festivals... The venue is beautiful, clean, very well maintained, organized, & a lot of fun! The volunteers are all very sweet, friendly, & very informative. Its great how both locals & tourist can attend events & be involved with the center. We especially love the entertainment that the MACC is able to bring out to the island. Performances & talent range from locals to big celebrities.
google avatar

Jemmie G.

Yelp
This is by far the largest and most diverse venue in the island. The docent's are always kind and helpful and I really love the way the MAC has created a culture of volunteers for their events. About 4 times a year they offer outdoor movies that my family and I never miss. We are all very thankful for their commitment to our community.
google avatar

Barbara M.

Yelp
We have be fortunate to visit the island several times and we are able to choose some local entertainment to include on our agenda. This year we bought tickets to the Maui Pops Holiday Concert with celebrity vocalist Capetha Jenkins. What a very accomplished orchestra and it was only enhanced with Ms. Jenkins! The Castle Theater is a lovely venue, the sound is good and the venue intimate. The host a variety of concerts and events, so I would strongly recommend you check their calendar during you visit and see if there is something you would enjoy seeing. Thank you, MACC, for a great afternoon!

Yelp
Maui Arts and Cultural Center is such a special place for live music, art and dance. My wife and I love attending events at the MACC. You will experience some of the greats in music performing year round, surf movies, art exhibits, to Christmas specials with Willie K and Friends. Maui Film Festival also puts on movies year round so make sure you check their website for up coming events.

Yelp
We flew over to Maui just to see the Diva Queen of Motown, Diana Ross at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. This theatre is big but it's a great intimate place to see concerts, where you can sit comfortably and no matter where you sit, you have the best seat to view of the artist you came to see. However it would be best to be a member to get the most benefits for your money and deals. People who work here are nice and very helpful. Free parking and great food!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a beautiful facility with a giant stage. We attended a native Hawaiian dance performance. We had comfortable seating. The acoustics were excellent. Plenty of parking. The unexpected highlight was the wonderful open-air plaza area for drinks and light food before the performance and at intermission. Local restaurants provided a nice selection of both Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian foods. Liquor was available, prices were good, and the setting was very relaxing. This venue is a major asset for Maui, probably not known by most visitors. It's worth checking their website for scheduled performances if you're on the island.

Yelp
I went to the MACC on June 18th to attend The Mikado with three friends, and although I may be mistaken in my belief, I felt that we were treated poorly because of our age. (We are all in our twenties.) The only reason I am leaving a two-star review instead of one is because the MACC is a beautiful venue that is well maintained. When we were trying to find parking, there was an attendant in the lot who stopped and spoke to every car in front of us but when it was our turn, he ignored us and did not offer us any direction or assistance. Once we were seated I took out my phone to silence it and let my husband know that we were in the theatre and I would be unable to answer any of his texts for the duration, a staff member came up to me, tapped me on the shoulder, and in a saccharine voice let me know that although I probably didn't know it, phones were not allowed to be used during the program. (For goodness sake, the orchestra wasn't even in the pit when I took my phone out!) As if I wasn't insulted at this point, other people seated near me were using their phones to take selfies, pictures of the stage, had their ringtones on - and not just prior to or during intermission, I might add. It seemed that the staff (except for one woman who handed me the program) weren't all that friendly and came off as very curt. Honestly, I can't see myself returning to the MACC in the foreseeable no matter how cool the event might be.

Yelp
PARKING NIGHTMARE!! The parking there is so horribly mismanaged it's insane. Got there by 6pm for the Journey concert but it took an hour and a half to turn the corner and park. 3 big streets all merging into a one-lane grass parking lot that they have the nerve to charge $10 for. That's in addition to the $16 facility fee and the $8 internet fee! Completely missed Willie K by the time I was inside the show. They also need to sync their video display with the music rather than have it a half beat behind. Amateurs! Too bad this is our only choice for big concerts. I will never do this again.

Yelp
Thanks to YELP, I found out that Jim Gaffigan was performing the day after our arrival in Maui, so as soon as we got into the car, we cruised right over and scored our tickets to the show. The venue was SPECTACULAR with a cool island vibe, awesome tunes before the show and comfortable seats in a place that isn't so big to require binoculars from the mezzanine. As usual, Jim Gaffigan managed to split our seams with his unique comedy style. He is F-ING HILARIOUS!!! I will always think of him when looking at polar bears, eating cake or bacon or walking past hot pockets at the supermarket. Good times on the eye-lahnd mahn.

Yelp
Brewers Fest is total rip off! Do not go! We had to wait in long lines, were not able to taste all 8 beers that came with ticket as they closed down after 2.5 hours and music was terrible. As a craft beer lover I look forward to Brewers Fest but after this year I will never go back.

Yelp
I flew from Honolulu in order to see the Morrissey concert since I liked the idea that the show would be in a proper venue versus a lawn. It was truly the perfect way to see AND hear such a legend. A venue that is more suited to the term "petite". A main floor of seats on the ground level that seats most goers. a second level consisting of side balconies and a second level of seats that is one third of the size of the main floor. Since it's such an intimate space you get to feel a connection to the music and the performers in a way that you would normally never get in larger venues. For that alone it makes it a worthy visit. Although there was confusion with the band's crew whether or not it was a sitting only concert it was quickly cleared up once the band entered the stage since every single person stood up as if it were Christmas Mass. As a seated venue I noticed that it had a severe problem in planning and proper execution. There was barely any noticeable elevation with the rows of chairs. It felt extremely cramped if you had to walk over to your seat when others were already seated. Extremely awkward inducing. As a standing venue it's about average and no friend to those who are under 5'5". Unless they have the good fortune not to have a tall person in front of them they are in for a bit of a disappointment and sore toes. Half the time I had to go on tippy toes at times in order to see the singer's belligerent expressions while he did his crowd banter because of a creepy older gentleman's erratic sensual dancing. From my observation of the crowd there were only a handful of others who were having height related problems. So to all women under 5'5" all I can say is, wear your tallest pair of high heels that you're comfortable standing in for more than 90 minutes. This will make your experience much more enjoyable if you want to see the band clearly without straining your neck or any other body part. For those who are anything like the rapid Morrissey fans, who's sole aspiration is hug raping their idol, the height of the stage will be a godsend. The stage was low enough that obsessed fans could easily hoist themselves up in order to run up and violate him. Even with security guards on the stage they were no match for at least half a dozen fans who were able to climb up and make a crazed dash for the singer. The sound system could have been sharper. At times the sound seemed muddled and various elements indistinct. That could have just been due to the band and their crew (which I highly doubt) but I think it should be noted nonetheless. It really needs to be looked into. For a successful concert experience I would recommend - * Wearing platform or heels for the shorter folks. * Getting a drink or a plate of food at the bar. The quality is impressive with prices that are surprisingly decent. * Checking out the art gallery. During May of 2012 there was an installation of artwork by local schoolchildren. * Relax in the outdoor seated area. They provided a singer/guitarist to entertain people before they opened the doors to the actual concert hall.

Yelp
I have a very long history with this place. At age 2 I started taking dance classes there ballet, tap, acro, everything from lyrical to contemporary. I also have many dance recitals there in the main Castle theater and other smaller ones around the place. Not only did I perform there as a dancer I was also a model at one of their art mix things. Plus have been to a few concerts there myself and have been going to see their concerts for years they have some wonderful performers. Also as I mentioned earlier they have something called an art mix and they do it every so often. It's free to go and you can listen to music there and dance or look at some of the cool art that is there or take pictures with models that are dressed very interesting. It's always fun to go there and just chill. If you don't like big crowds then don't come here. Also Castle theater may be the largest theater but for big concerts they set it up on a big lawn with a large stage in front. I have danced on both Castle theater's stage and the lawn stage both are fun. But this place is amazing and would highly recommend their art mix or concerts the only concert that sucked was the Bob Dylan concert but that was just because Bob Dylan was as he was always kinda hard to understand now well past 70 you can not understand him at all. Plus he just butchered my 2 favorite songs I loved all versions of Tangled up in Blue and Twist of Fate but he kinda ruined them this time. It was so bad me and my dad who went with me left early. But that was the only bad experience I have ever had. Other than that this place is always amazing.

Yelp
We live on Maui and went to our second event at the MACC, Art = Mixx Super Nova this Saturday night. It was a free event and we were excited and at first it was really fun to be there. The security is totally horrible once again. They hire people with power trips who like to mistreat people. "James Brown" an African American security guard should be fired from his job there. My partner went outside for a minute at this show because one of the people on duty told him he would for sure be able to come back in. We had just ordered food. When he tried to come back in "James Brown" started yelling at him for no reason while my partner tried to explain what he had been told, that he would be able to go right back in with no troubles. This security guard who actually said to my partner "I'm James Brown, you can complain on Monday." started yelling at him right off, he didn't try to understand or help with the problem, was just very rude and aggressive. We will certainly also call the managers of the MACC on Monday like he told my partner he should. Behavior like that is not okay for a security guard or anyone else. I waited for an hour because my partner doesn't have a cell phone right now, we share one. I have been going through Cancer lately, I am in recovery from major surgeries, & I pass out easily and am halfway disabled & shouldn't really be left on my own. He had to go all the way home to call me to tell me what had happened using a landline. This is not acceptable. He should have been allowed back in, or a security guard should have gone to the food truck where we had ordered food looking for me to say what had happened. It was not my partner's fault that an uninformed employee told him something that turned out to not be true and that the next employee he encountered was abusive in how he reacted and wasn't doing any problem solving or trying to help, was just mistreating people with verbal abuse and shouting. I really wish you guys would fire the power hungry abusive security guards you have now like "James Brown" and get nicer more compassionate security people who deserve to have a job & don't make your business go bankrupt by driving customers away. This was our second time at the MACC because I am living back on Maui now, my family lived here for many years until a few years ago & I moved back at the start of this year. So far I am severely under impressed with this business which is really the only one of it's kind on Maui. It should be wonderful to see shows here. Y'all ruined our fun special night out (again). There are lots of kind good people who need jobs, but this "James Brown" character, who had my partner taken off the property just because he was trying to explain himself after "James" started yelling at him immediately for no reason is not a person who deserves a job like this. Give his job to a nice person who deserves it, maybe he will think about what a mean person he is who uses a security guard job to express his power issues, that he wants power over others. Our first experience at the MACC was just as bad, although I didn't write a review on here just on their Facebook page & I never heard back from anyone. We went to see Primus in April 2018 for our anniversary. That show was very expensive while tonight's show was free but they were both equally annoying and disconcerting experiences. At the Primus show we had to be checked with security metal detectors if we went to get water, every time & physically patted down. And I couldn't go to the bathroom without having my tickets rescanned every time. So horribly invasive for an experience that is supposed to be relaxing and fun. I had also called to ask if I could bring my own water & snacks because I am battling Cancer and I pass out & overheat easily due to lymph node removal. I was just told "yes" I could bring my own water that time on the phone. But when I got there, my bag was searched and I was yelled at by another power hungry little security guard while about 6 other security guards swarmed around us, they confiscated my water because the person on the phone did not tell me that it had to be in a plastic bottle only and have the cap opened before going in. Your staff is very badly trained - I was given wrong information over the phone that first time & I also that time told that employee about my health condition, that I am battling Cancer & that was why I was calling to ask questions. This time once again we were the ones who got punished and our night ruined because of uninformed & poorly trained employees who are not nice to people. Please get some new employees and save your business. I see that other people have had similar experiences plus we have been told word of mouth by others who live on Maui who have had bad experiences with the security people at the MACC as well. Another person called your security guards "Geriatric security Nazis" and while that isn't so nice, it really seems true. A really bad experience.

Yelp
I love the MACC. It is such a wonderful venue. Beautiful to look at, plenty of bartenders ready to take your drink order and even more bathroom stalls in the womens restrooms! Every event I have ever attended included great food choices. I take off only one star for the heat and the seats. Heat - if you sit in the first ten rows the lights are sooooo hot during certain shows its really terrible. Seats - the leg room distribution varies from row to row. I now am partial to the first balcony level its much cooler and I love the leg room. I constantly check the MACC website for new shows and free events. We are so lucky to have this venue. Thank you!

Yelp
As far as the in door venue goes, its outstanding and the full bar option is nice. The acoustics are great and the staff is inconsequential. The out door venue is tons of fun, never crowded, and sounds great. My only real complaint is the serious pat down you gotta go through to get in. Oh and the beer selection (only Bud light and Stella) leaves alot to be desired. Can I get a local beer please?

Yelp
Very disappointed with the MACC!! Been to other great shows there with no problems but tonight was the worse. They really blew it tonight! We went to the Lee Brice concert and he was excellent to listen to but felt like I was just listening to him on the radio! I couldn't see anything! The girls in front of us stood up the entire show. First I talked to the ushers and they said they couldn't do anything. Then I talked to security and he said the entertainers like when the audience stands up and dance. He said he can't do anything, that I should stand up too. He was such a jerk. Then the people next to us complained too and security came and asked them to sit down. They didn't and nothing was done. During intermission, the usher told them the could stand on the side but they didn't move. The venue was all wrong if they wanted people to dance they should have held the concert outside like they do with Reggae concerts. I paid $85 and could not see anything! Bad customer service!

Yelp
If a concert worth mentioning is happening on Maui, it'll be held at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. The MACC as we call it is centrally located in Kahului, not too far from the airport. I've peeked at some past reviews but it seems that there hasn't been one done in quite some time. I'm hoping this will bring insight to possible concert goers. INSIDE CONCERTS: I think the MACCs amphitheater is a lot better than most places. It's big enough to hold a pretty good sized crowd, but not so big you're drowning in a sea of people. I personally like to be seated on the mezzanine level (2nd floor). No matter where you're sitting, you have a good view. I'm sure it's the same if you're on the balcony (3rd floor) but I've never been up there so it's hard for me to say. On the second level, even if you're seated on the farthest row, the concert hall isn't big where you'd need binoculars to see the stage. Everything is still very visible. There are 2 restrooms each on the orchestra level (1st floor) and on the mezzanine level. They're all very well maintained and easy to get to. The only real downside in my opinion to concerts on the inside is the lack of leg room. If you're going to a concert that makes you want to dance, it'll be hard not to bump the next person's knees and/or shoulders. The MACC does have a few seats on the orchestra level that are wider. They're located about of the way from the back. Because the seats are pre assigned, you'll need to purchase those exact seats to ensure the extra room. With regards to pricing, there is a price difference depending where you sit in the amphitheater. It's normally $20 less for the balcony and $10 less for the mezzanine than it is for the orchestra level. If you're ever in need of assistance, there are a ton of volunteers that are there to assist you. There's also no food or drinks allowed in the amphitheater. OUTSIDE CONCERTS: Concerts that are done outside are on a nice lawn. There's a ton of space outside to dance if you fell like letting loose your inner Michael Jackson. Another positive about outside concerts are the ticket prices. Yes, they still can be pricey but there aren't any price differences like there'd be for indoor concerts. Seating can be an issue though. For the most part, concerts outdoors are more the stand up type. You can bring a mat or chair but at times there are so many people if you sit on the lawn, you won't see much. If you choose not to bring a chair, there are a few stadium bleachers at the far back of the lawn. You'll still se everything but at times you'd tend to feel separated from the action. With regards to bathrooms, you're relegated to port-a-potties that are located to the left bleachers. FOOD INSIDE: The food served for indoor concerts is somewhat different than the food sold for outdoor concerts. For indoor concerts, there are several different vendors that provide food depending on the concert. The choices will include American, Italian, Mexican or Greek fare, etc. All are very good and the prices aren't outrageous. Normally, they'll range between $8-$10 for a salad and $12-$16 for an entrée. The food's quite filling. The MACC also provides a well stocked bar. Drink prices are about $6 but they really load up on the ice. I think beer and wine drinkers will come out ahead on this one. FOOD OUTSIDE: There's a somewhat big difference with food outside. Sometimes you'll get the same vendors but the amount of food you're given is a lot less. On the upside, you don't pay the same price as inside. At times, depending on the concert, there are more food vendors that are there. You'll get less food but there's more of a variety. The bar on the other hand is really simple. They only serve wine, champagne, and certain beers. With outdoor concerts, the folks at the MACC will rope off half of the lawn for those over 21 and able to drink from those who don't want to drink and under 21. Whether it be inside or outside, there are a few things about the MACC that turns me off. The first being the "applicable fees"; on top of whatever you're paying for the ticket, there's ALWAYS an extra fee. Normally it ranges between $3-$5 but they add up real fast. The other is the charge for parking. They don't always do it but when they do, the MACC will charge around $5-$15 ($35 at the Elton John concert) per car for parking across the street at the Maui Community College. In a perfect world, they'd just add everything to the ticket, but they don't. C'est la vie. If you can pay and look beyond the added charges, I think an evening at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center can be extremely nice. I'd recommend checking their site (www.mauiarts.org) frequently because there are shows, exhibits, and concerts that are added and subtracted all the time. See you there.
