Worst experience I’ve ever had with a hotel. I booked 2 months ahead directly on the website. I booked the updated oceanfront suite, 1 king, for 3 nights. The description said: updated marble bathroom, deep soak tub, walk-in shower, kitchen.
Upon arrival on our first day, they put my fiancé and I in a standard room with 2 double beds, street view, no kitchen, and a dirty small bathroom with no tub or walk in shower. When I informed the front desk that this is not the room I paid for, I was made to believe they gave me a discount for my troubles for the first night (20% off), but in reality I was just paying for the downgraded standard room I had. I was told by front desk to come back the next day at 9am to give the cleaners 1 hour to clean our suite, and then we would get our one king suite.
We changed our entire day’s plan so we could check in at 9am. Come 9am that morning, we are told by a different lady at the desk that nobody left a note under our name and there’s no suites available. We had to speak with the manager (Mateo). I shared my frustration with their lack of communication, He didn’t seem to care at all and did not apologize once. He told us no promises, but to come back at 12-3pm and we could have the same room type (oceanfront suite), but this one is 2 kings. I said that’s fine as long as it has the same features as the suite that I paid for. He confirmed.
We return at 3pm and are given new keys for our “suite.” I double-check that this is the same type of room I booked and paid for online - front desk confirms. We get to the room and it was an oceanfront view, but nothing else was remotely the same as to what I booked. It was 2 queens, not 2 kings. There was no updated bathroom, no tub, no walk-in shower - just a rusty shower - and no kitchen at all (refrigerator in bathroom closet).
I go down AGAIN to speak with the front desk just to confirm that there’s no price difference between what I paid for online and the room we are in, as I wanted a refund for what I was owed. I was told that there’s no price difference at all so there will be no refund and that I already got 20% off.
That same night, when returning to the hotel, The same front desk lady I spoke with earlier called me over and said that she found out there actually is a difference in the suite I’m in and the one I booked, but she is not able to give any refund and to speak with a manager tomorrow morning. I ended up not being able to speak with the female manager she told me to, as whenever I asked she was not in.
When checking out on my last day, I was told by the front desk, that she’s sorry and that Mateo (manager), needs to be let go and is the one who makes these mistakes, and that I should’ve gotten a bigger refund.
The biggest issue was not that I didn’t get the room I paid for, it was the fact that I was constantly told the room I paid for was the same price as the room I got until my last night, and was never given any further refund or discount.
