The art is very beautiful, however, I have no idea how they can stay in business, since everything is about twice as expensive as it should be to be sold. I understand that art is valuable and unique, however , at the end of the day, it needs to be purchased by an actual customer.

Super unique store of items I haven’t seen before. My husband and I wanted everything in the store and ended up purchasing a gold charm for my bracelet and two chalices that are rainbow glass. Prices reflect the craftsmanship. The woman working also packaged everything up for us and we arrived home to KY with nothing broken. She really took her time and was considerate of how special these pieces were to us. Really has something for anyone looking for something special from Maui.

This Build Used to be the Paia Mercantile it was basically a store. But in 1970s it was later subdivided into various Retail Spaces. and that explains why it looks so different

I bought a keychain that I know I will cherish forever. Everything is so beautiful, and a fair price. Mahalo for the conversation and kindness! I'm definitely planning on coming back.

Great store, rude male staff at my visit today! Very unwelcoming! When I went to check out he made a huge deal about taking cash. He said it was a “hassle” and wanted me to pay with a card. I only had cash and he continued to complain and roll his eyes to the point I didn’t make the purchase. Lots of other great shops with friendly staff that I spent my money in.

Such a neat set up with. I got a couple of gifts for my nieces. The pieces were greatly loved when I got back to the mainland. The guild members that are there were very nice and personable when I had questions. They love what they do.

We stopped by while cruising through Paia, doing the pseudo-tourist thing. But for the first time in a long time of art exposure, I came across a technique I'd never seen, and it was awesome. Gyotaku. Just look it up. Debra Lumpkins was the artist, and unbeknownst to me, she was operating the store that day. So the moment I said, "man, I like this" to my wife, the woman behind the counter said she created it, explained it, and explained the Guild as a whole. Very nice.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to shop for local made art. Its nice to know that my tourist money is going to local Maui artist. There so many interesting pieces that fit anyone's budget from the value hunter to the serious art collector. We purchased a wonderful Gyotaku print created by Debra Lumpkins. They even shipped it back to mainland. There was no way that art work was going make it back in our luggage. The location is near some great restaurants which allowed us to have a wonderful day trip from the west side into Pa'ia town.

Yelp
If I remember correctly, the Maui Crafts Guild is a cooperative of 9 local Maui artists and is located in a handsome shop at the main corner of the Hana Highway and Baldwin Avenue. When I'm on a trip, I always gravitate to these type of art galleries, as I know I'll find unique and well curated items at a fair price. Plus there's a good chance that I'll be talking to at least one of the artist owners during my visit. During my recent stop in, I purchased a very striking small basket and a hand made "gratitude" book from 2 different artists, both of whom were right there on that day. So I really knew what I was buying. And for the pieces I admired and didn't buy, I received great background information as the artists minding the store knew them personally. I was very happy with my purchases and enjoyed my visit thoroughly. I only wish I could have found the time to come back again before my recent visit to Maui was over.

Yelp
Pa'ia Town is a charming little stop just as you begin the Hana Highway or come back down. Maui Crafts Guild is on the main intersection of the Highway, right in the center of town. It's a co-op of nine artists, any one of whom may be working on the day you enter. Their works range from jewelry to glassware and creations. It's always fun to visit and learn about local artists. This is a beautiful little shop!

Yelp
I have visited the Maui Crafts Guild for years whenever I'm on Maui. I have objects on my walls, on display shelves and in my closet that I have bought here over the years. No jewelry as far as I can remember, but many other things. It's Maui's only artists' cooperative. So my heart dropped when we drove into Pai'a from the airport and I saw their signature pale green building w/ paper on all the windows. We drove a bit farther and I was thrilled to see their sign on a bright yellow single story building of about the same vintage as the original. Today after lunch I walked over to check out the new location. I was warmly greeted by the woman behind the counter, who explained that they had moved here about a year ago and that it was a better location. She commented that the feng shui of the two rooms had been bad, although it had never bothered me. They no longer have the upstairs, where fabulously sensual wooden sculptures had been displayed, but that sculptor had moved on a few years ago. Things change. The gallery is smaller and some of the artists have changed and some are the same. The quality remains high. I didn't find anything I had to have, but given how much I've bought over the years, that's not surprising. There is still a lot to admire.

Yelp
Highly recommend stopping by Maui Crafts Guild if in Paia. Driving by we recognized the gyotaku artwork by Debra Lumpkins in the window and decided to take a look. Inside there are works from a wide variety of talented artists. Amazing pieces in various mediums - gyotaku, woodworking, jewelry, fabrics, and more. Artists who display and sell their work at the gallery also take turns working there. One of the artists, Tom, warmly greeted us and spent some time chatting with us about his work and that of his fellow artists. We will definitely return when back on Maui!

Yelp
I don't know how you can rate this any lower than 5 stars - this art co-op has a tremendous selection and variety of types of artwork and wide range of price points. You will definitely find things you like for yourself or for gifts - tons of great stuff here even if you're just browsing.

Yelp
This review is long overdue. I was there in December 08. This is a co-op owned by 20 artists and I absolutely love their pieces. Great place for souvenirs and to indulge yourself. If you want one-of-a-kind souvernirs, this shop is a must-stop.They sell jewelleries, hand-painted scarves, silk robes, Vases and more.

Yelp
This place was okay - but I just wasn't feeling it. The art was not in my opinion attractive or made me think - Hawaii. Being an artist myself and having at shop on etsy.com and viewing others shops - nothing in the shop looked really special to me. The woman working the shop was pushy and I just don't appreciate that. I liked Maui Hands much better.

Yelp
Went to Paia town for an afternoon of exploring and we ended up staying for the 'Final Friday' celebration at night. Update - Final Fridays have been cancelled. Parking in Paia is very limited.

Yelp
Stopped in while in Paia since I was looking for an unusual and handcrafted scarf for an upcoming wedding. I found the perfect thing here. In fact, it's so perfect, I could not have imagined how it would be before laying eyes on it. Really a work of art.

Yelp
(4) ~ very good selection of various art(sculptures, pottery, paintings, jewelry, etc.) by up and coming Local Artists. Our Favorite is by Artist Joshua Lee Cox, who makes what can be best described as "Molten Lava" Glass. When Light strikes his pieces it looks like Lava Flowing through it!:) Since the Hawaiian islands were made from Volcanoes, his "Lava Glass" make a perfect memento!:)

Yelp
Spent some time in Paia today and came across the Maui Crafts Guild. Wonderful! Love that the artists take turns manning the store! A great way to really get insight into the art (not just theirs as they are very knowledgeable on all of the artists' art). Found some beautiful glass work to purchase. Colleen, one of the artists, helped us. Very friendly, very helpful, and very insightful about the art and the island! We'll visit again!

Yelp
NOTE: The Maui Crafts Guild has moved from their old address at 69 Hana Highway to 120 Hana Highway. (Right at corner of Baldwin and Hana Highway, across from Paia Fish Market.). Place seems much smaller but still a nice collection of fine art prints, gases and wood art, and photography.

Yelp
We entered the gallery today planning on taking "a piece of Maui" home. The member working was on the phone and did not acknowledge us as we entered. She continued to talk loudly on the phone, complaining about another member (by name) and airing the politics of displaying the artwork. This continued for at least 10 minutes and obviously was not going to end any time soon. So we left. On our way out my husband told the woman he hoped we hadn't bothered her to which she replied, "This is a co-op and I am busy talking to another member". As a member of a co-op in another area, I can tell you that ignoring a customer, complaining about your co-members, and being snarky will kill any sales you hope to have.

Yelp
We stumbled into this place on a whim, like I'm sure most people do. I was glad we stopped in...Nice local crafts guild with high quality goods. Everything from quilted items to fine jewelry. Good range in prices too, if you're shopping for gifts.

Yelp
This gallery is a must see on Maui. It is full of really high quality art of many kinds. You will find photography, glass, wood carving, gold and silver smithing, bead art and more. It is all Maui artists and the person behind the counter will be one of them. We have always enjoyed a warm welcome and great conversation with the artist on duty. Parking is easy in the municipal lot just east of the shop on the Hana Highway. We love Paia and always find lots to explore, especially a meal at The Fish Market! Stop in on your way to Hana.
