On the Grid : Craft Fairs

"Nairobi hosts a few fun and eclectic craft fairs. Often a great place to catch a beer as you stroll around to discover new hand made goods that are locally produced. From scented soaps and candles to jewellery and high end custom furniture... there's always a ton to discover and buy. Look out for these annual craft fairs : Bizarre Bazaar - June & November (Karura Forest) Kenya Art Fair - November (Sarit Centre) Nairobi Fashion Market - March & October (Ngong Racecourse) Soko Soko - June (Varies location) The Box - May & November (Karen Blixen)" - New Colony Studio

This is a very run of the mill street/art fair across from the Lahaina Cannery. It features many of the same vendors that the Maui Swap Meet has but less options and far less food and beverage trucks. There’s a lot of parking so it’s accessible and unlike the Maui Swap Meet there is no fee for entry. It’s always good to see local artists and shops selling their things and this is less a reflection of the goods sold here and more so that there is a better fair not far from here that boasts better things to browse.

This is the best craft fair to look for authentic handcrafted gifts and things for yourself as well! It’s located next to Moku Roots which is also one of the best places to eat. There are certain booths you should not miss: visit Creighton at Footprints in the Sand/Maui Glass for some amazing wearable artwork. His wife Susan also does these amazing shadow frames that are literally poetry. Also check out Maui Muse designs for some really beautiful jewelry from Katie, a very talented artist. Last but not least check out this wonderful jewelry artist from Montreal at her booth called Ca Brille.

A great place to shop for local arts, crafts, and souvenirs! A small version of a swap meet or festival where local vendors sell their own creations to support their local businesses and local community! The prices are great and the people are super friendly! Family environment!

Google
Best place to get gifts for family and friends from Maui. This craft fair has everything you will see all over the island from local vendors, much of it is handmade. We purchased many gifts for family and friends from many different stalls, everyone is super friendly and some locations will even custom engrave some wood items you purchased from them, it was a special touch that made all the difference. There were not many food vendors the weekend we went but there is plenty of restaurants nearby.

Convenient location. A good variety of imported and handmade goods. A handful of true artisans that really make their own crafts using local materials. Several booths with the same imported tourist type souvenirs. Worth a quick look if you're looking for something to take home from the island.

Google
Great little area for finding perfect souvenirs to take home. Our tour guide from the zip line told us about it. I believe it's every Sunday from 9-2. Get there early as it's in black top and it does get warm.

It was a very good craft fair with lots of local artisans. It had lots jewelry, art, wood carved gifts, and plenty more. While it was shaded and under tents, it was on a parking lot and was quite hot.

Google
The largest Gift and Craft Fair on Maui. With Made on Maui products from 60 vendors. Bring water, it can get a bit warm. Shop early to get the best deals. One of a kind items for sale. See you all in Lahaina every Sunday from 9-2 at the Lahaina Gateway Center.

Yelp
A great craft fair! Wonderful place to find souvenirs for loved ones at home. We got some awesome authentic coconut bowls with a beautiful design painted in it that are food safe! They had lots of jewelry options and wooden pieces. Such a great place! I'd definitely say go early, it does get pretty warm, especially with all the bodies. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Aloha! First time in Hawaii and it was recommended to us to check out this gift and craft fair to support local artists and small businesses. I was informed that money earned here also goes towards rebuilding Lahaina from the wild fires. This is a great place to buy souvenirs for yourself and others and most of the items don't take up too much space in the luggage! My only thing is that certain vendors sell similar items and their prices can be different. For example, I bought items from one vendor then found them at another vendor for a lesser price. So I recommend browsing all the booths before making any purchases. The vendors are nice though and are happy to let you know about their products! Happy shopping!

Yelp
What a great craft Fair!! We managed to get there just after they opened at about 9:30 am and the rain. Was nice to see before entering, they take your temperature and you must sanitize your hands. Thank you for keeping us safe with this extra precautions. We did find a few things to bring back home. Really enjoyed our experience here and will be returning next Sunday. It's a good stop for gifts to bring back home.

Yelp
Most vendors can be found at this craft fair. There are a bunch of smaller fairs near the walks by the hotels during the week - but this craft fair you will find them all consolidated into one location. Huge parking lot as well. Since it is in the parking lot it can get a little warm so head over early in the morning.

Yelp
Free, quick and easy shopping for souvenirs and local vendors. Convenient location after eating at Kihei Caffe and shop other plaza shops

Yelp
In A Nutshell: -The Maui Gift & Craft Fair is only open on Sunday's 9am to 2pm. -This is a nice place to grab souvenirs while supporting local vendors. -There is a huge selection of art, crafts & gifts. -You're bound to find something that interests you or your loved ones. -Parking is easy & plentiful since it shares a huge lot. Overall, stop by here, it's worth it.

Yelp
Small little fair but a dazzling variety of souvenirs to buy! Jewelry, varying from cheap to expensive pearls and gemstones can be found here. Tourist t shirts, bags and nick nacks galore at very good prices, beating out even the ABC stores. I got Hawaiian floral hair pins (large ones too) at 4 for $5 as opposed to 1 at $5. They don't offer much food though, agree with previous post, recommend food trucks to spice things up :) Despite looking small, took me more than an hour to look at everything, and I am still not at the end of the lot yet Highly recommended!

Yelp
If you are a fan of checking out local talent and flea market types of events, this may be your thing. Held only on Sundays from 9a-2p, this is the little sibling to the slightly larger and more diverse Maui Swap Meet (held in Kahului at the college parking lot). This one is a pleasant drive away in Lahaina at the Gateway Center and is also held in the parking lot which makes parking a breeze and you really don't have an excuse for not checking it out since admission and parking is free. Within the small gathering of portable canopies you will find several dozen local artists and artisans showing off their stuff. Jewelers, painters, photographers, clothiers and soapsters (or whatever you call soap makers) make up the bulk of the talent you will run into. Most things are affordable and for the tourist crowd this represents a great spot to find unique Maui based gifts to take home unless you prefer to grab really souvenirish crap along the main Lahaina drag. One thing missing (in my opinion) is that there is a distinct lack of local grindages. If you are like me and get bored of shopping for arts and crafts, there is a point you will reach here where you will want to let the obsessive compulsive shoppers with you do their thing while you contemplate offing yourself or finding something else to entertain yourself. For me, that means looking for something local and delicious to put in my gut. All I saw was a street taco seller, a fund raising beverage seller, and a Portuguese sandwich seller. I was very sad...no real local kine food within reach. If they would have some of those vendors start setting up my grumpiness would be gone and this would easily be a local 5 star event for me on Sundays. Next time, I will stop on the way to grab manapua or Musubi, coffee and other snackies to carry around with me and my family can then drag me around fat, dumb and happy while shopping for soap!

Yelp
I was so glad to stumble across this event while in Maui. It was a great opportunity to check out some local vendors and buy some Maui-made souvenirs. They currently have a temperature/sanitizer booth setup and encourage social distancing. There were an array of options from typical wares made in other countries to one of a kind made by hand items. A few of the vendors we found and loved included: Aloha Raku Pottery: I fell in love with their pottery a few years ago and was happy to find them here. Story of Hawaii Museum: The gentleman working was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. He explained the history of the various maps he had for sale. My son was actually quite intrigued in the history lesson so we stayed for a bit to learn about the maps' evolution. Alpha Maui: my husband bought the Alpha Clip to hold his cards and money. For the rest of our trip I heard "this is the best purchase I've ever made". The hats they make are unique and fun. Advance Wildlife Education: this was an interesting vendor to stop at. The young man is a marine biologist who decided to start this organization as a way to promote education in an effort to prevent further destruction and extinction of our ocean friends. He wrote and illustrated educational coloring books in English and translated in Hawaiian. He donates a portion of his proceeds to various non-profit organizations. He also sells sustainable bamboo tops.

Yelp
A line to enter for temp checks. Mask required at all times even though it is outside in the parking lot. Went to the Swap Meet at the college Saturday. This gift & craft fair is just a smaller version of the swap meet. Good selection of jewelry, clothes, arts, souvenirs, etc. Again, I felt the prices were a little inflated but they are catering to tourists. Worth looking. In the shopping center with Ross. Across the street from the Cannery Mall, Safeway.

Yelp
Great mix of items. Vendors are super kind and friendly. Bought several items from several different shops. I would definitely recommend stopping by , especially if you're looking for some memorable souvenirs.
