We ended our island hopping trip with a final night back on Maui. We stayed at The Maui Guest House B&B, hosted by Tanna. Tanna was very responsive over email and phone while helping me booking the night at the last minute.
We got to the B&B fairly late at night (10pm), Tanna was up to receive us. She made us feel very welcome from the moment we stepped into the house. She showed us around our room as well as the common area, got us drinks, and told us about the breakfast. Next day (since we are only staying one night and have an evening flight), Tanna offered to let us store our luggage in the house as well as use the common area bathroom. We took her up on the offer, which made our last day on the island a lot easier.
The house is gorgeous inside and out. The front yard has a small pool and a patio area with a couple of patio tables (with umbrellas overhead) as well as a hammock. The living room is huge. It's connected to the kitchen/dining area. There is also a family room type of area in the back of the house.
We stayed in the room in the back of the house. The room was very well appointed. There is a queen bed, as well as this sleeping area next to the bed that can accommodate one additional person. There is a large screen LCD tv mounted on the wall so you can watch tv from the comfort of the bed (there is a huge dvd library in the living room). The attached in-suite bathroom is nice. The suite also has its own private screened patio in the back yard of the house. There is a couple of lounger chairs, as well as a hottub that's only for us to use!
Tanna said her and the staff usually have the breakfast ready around seven something in the morning. They did have a pretty nice spread that we enjoyed: beverages (milk and juices in the fridge, coffee/tea), muffins/bread/bagel, a very nice fruit platter, cereal.
The house is about 2 miles from the commercial/touristy central area of Lahaina. It's about 40-50 minute drive from the main Kahului airport. It's pretty easy to find, either use google maps or follow the directions provided on the B&B's website.
yelp currently has very few b&b reviews for hawaii. tripadvisor on the other hand has much better review coverage and density. hopefully this review will help get more yelp users to stay at the Maui Guest House and write reviews. For the yelp travelers out there, when you are researching Hawaii b&b options, i recommend that in addition to looking at yelp reviews, also check out tripadvisor. go to tripadvisor, in the search box type in the island you are looking at, e.g. "maui hawaii". the first entry in the search result should be the main tripadvisor page for that island. click through to it. on it you should see fairly close to the top, a short list of the top b&b's on the island. click on the link "All XXX b&b's" to see all the b&b's - this list is extremely useful because it is sorted by rating. I found this b&b that way - Maui Guest House is currently the 4th top ranked b&b on maui.
