9 Must-Visit Religious UNESCO Sites in Germany - AFAR

"An exceptionally well-preserved medieval Cistercian abbey combining Gothic vaulted church ceilings with Romanesque arcades; notable features include the iconic Fountain House and an ingenious water-engineering system that channels nearby rivers into the site, and the complex sits amid vineyards and trails for hiking and biking." - AFAR

One of the most authentic and beautiful monastery I've been. If you're hesitating to go here with less accessible location, I definitely recommend to visit here. Beautiful architecture, high-quality preservation of medieval arts, authentic atmosphere. You can also visit the whole area, which is also full of medieval timber-framed houses. For tickets - you can go to the information center at the south of the village.

My wife and I went to this monastery around 10am. The parking lot we parked was: Friedhofweg 3, 75433 Maulbronn As you walk past the entrance arch of the monastery from the parking lot, you enter into a building complex with another parking lot inside. One can also park over there. Go into the information centre to get the visiting ticket and the audio guide is optional. My wife and I got one audio guide and used it to hear to the pre-recorded information. Its loud enough for two. The information is helpful to get the essence of the place. Follow the map and enter building number:3 shown in the map. I have marked the entry point in the image for your reference. The monastery takes us back in time where monks stayed and learnt their practises, rituals and prayers, which game me a sense of "Indian Gurukulam". In 2005, i discontinued myself from schooling. I stayed in a gurukulam in South-India, where I spent 2 years studying the priest course. Later gave up Gurukulam and got back to schooling. All those past memories came flooding and there are so many resemblance between the Monastery culture & the Gurukulam way of life. The monastery is huge and apart from the Central building, today the rest of the complex buildings are being used for other purposes. Enjoy the visit!

Beautiful, tickets are only needed for the inner area. If possible, visit on weekdays to avoid crowds

The entire complex is definitely worth to visit (for free). However, I doubt in value of visiting the monastery building (with entry fee).

Nothing special. If you are an experienced traveler, it could be just a nice getaway for a couple of hours, to enjoy the good weather and tranquility of the place. However, no need to go there deliberately. Wheelchair accessible outside only, all in paving slabs. You can get inside with a push chair.

Really nice monastery full with interesting small spots to discover. Paying the ticket to go inside is totally worthy. Don't forget to get the secret path to the nearby lake.

This monastery was founded in 1147! And is one of the best preserved in all Europe. It is stunning in beauty and holds many stories (take the guided tour it's worth it). The monetary was ruled first by the catholic church (the Cistercian order) and then by the protestants. Make sure you enjoy the dining room with its acoustic ;)

What a fantastique village style place. Outer parts can be visited for free and the remarkable monastery itself offers tours and audioguides. I recommend these to get more spoken details as signposting is limited to German and rather short. The place is of stunning architecture and an unbelievable relaxing quietness. Heavenly silence on earth with a dribbling fountain 😉

Yelp
Maulbronn Monastery Complex earned the UNESCO world heritage site status in 1993, and it is also one the Europe's most complete and best-preserved medieval monastery complexes. You can get an audio guide at 2 euros in multiple languages, tho no Mandarin. The audio guide provides lots of information and can help you better understand the place. You can feel the tranquility once stepping inside the building. It's recommended to bring a jacket since it is freezing.
