Nine steps to the perfect day in Auckland - SilverKris

"The city’s highest natural point and an extinct volcanic summit reached via a roughly half‑hour walk from a nearby reserve. The route passes through pōhutukawa forest where native tūī can be spotted, and the summit rewards walkers with sweeping 360‑degree views that encompass Waitematā Harbour, the far cliffs of the Manukau Heads and distant offshore islands." - Rebekah White

A must visit spot in Auckland with stunning 360° views of the city. The walk to the top is not difficult and rewards you with the impressive crater of an extinct volcano. Rich in history with visible Māori terracing, and well-preserved as a natural, peaceful place right in the heart of the city.

This is the highest volcanic origin peak in Auckland region. The location is very central and one can easily forget that it is in the middle of the city, when one starts climbing the summit. Vehicle access is allowed only until the parking, which is quite limited too. The nearby streets do have on street parking, where one can park and walk up the summit. There are many engaging features installed here now a days namely a boardwalk, well landscaped seating area to showcase the 360 degree views of the city, and some indigenous artefacts too. The Auckland city skyline can be seen in the background, which is one of the most popular photo spots on the summit. The crater on the top is well maintained and cordoned off. Public toilets are available near the parking lot. Child prams can be taken to the summit, with only a few stairs in the way. Highly recommended for a couple of hours excursion, with family and kids.

Amazing views and a peaceful escape right in the city!** Mt Eden (Maungawhau) is one of the best spots in Auckland to get a full 360° view of the city, harbour, and surrounding areas. The walk to the summit is short but scenic, with well-maintained paths and plenty of photo opportunities. The volcanic crater at the top is massive and impressive—it really makes you appreciate Auckland’s volcanic history. There are also informative signs about the site's cultural significance to Māori, which adds a meaningful layer to the experience. Things to know:** * Vehicle access is restricted at the summit, so expect a walk from the base * There are no fences around the crater, so caution is needed near the edge. * Best to go on a **clear day** for maximum visibility. Highly recommend to both locals and tourists. A must-do in Auckland!

Amazing views of the Auckland region at the top of a very small volcano. The area used to be a Maori settlement and you can see signs of previous human habitation. Beautiful views but it was a bit windy when we went.

Really cool spot with amazing views of the city, would definitely recommend checking it out if you're visiting Auckland! Keep in mind that's there's very limited parking up top, so you'll most likely have to walk the whole thing.

The views here are gorgeous from inside the crater to the view fully around the outside of it. This place is very well maintenance and parking wasnt too bad. One of the must sees while in Auckland.

Maungawahu is a very beautiful spot, hill with a dormant volcano and a crater covered in greenery. From the parking it is about 10 minutes walk up the hill (overall about 20-30 minutes walk up and down with photo stops). The mount provides a birds eye view of Auckland and the surrounding landscape. Must visit place when you are in Auckland.

Some of the great views of Auckland can be found at the top of Maungawhau/Mt Eden. The skywalk is a game changer for scenic views and photos. A great tourist attraction and nice short steep hike. Plenty of parking and toilets available on site.
