It is interesting only if you are a big lover of history, otherwise you may be disappointed. Entrance is 3 eur , and the mausoleum is not existing, it is only ruins. For me it was interesting, I love history very much!

1 of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. It's definitely worth a visit and costs around 3 euros each for entry (April 2025) You are able to walk through the site at your own pace. The site is a 15-minute walk from the main bus station, but there are also buses and taxis available. Bring your own refreshments. Toilets were available when we visited.

The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, is a fascinating site rich in history and mystery. Though only ruins remain today, the scale and artistry of the original structure are still evident. Informative signs and preserved sculptures give insight into its grandeur and the legacy of King Mausolus. It's a must visit for history lovers in Bodrum, powerful, atmospheric, and a striking reminder of ancient architectural genius.

Visiting the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was like stepping into a page of ancient history. Although much of the original structure no longer stands, the site offers an incredibly enriching experience for history enthusiasts. The remaining ruins, massive stone blocks, column fragments, and sculptural reliefs, hint at the scale and elegance of what was once one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The small museum adjacent to the site provides helpful context, showcasing replicas and archaeological findings that allow you to better visualize the original mausoleum. Informational plaques are clear and informative, and it’s fascinating to learn how the structure combined Greek, Egyptian, and Lycian design elements in a way that was both monumental and artistically refined. Walking around the site, you can’t help but feel a deep appreciation for the architectural ambition and historical significance of this ancient tomb. It’s a must-see if you’re in Bodrum and interested in classical history, it doesn’t take long to visit, but it leaves a lasting impression.

Very interesting historical site, with information provided on signboards in the exhibition hall in various languages. A tiny museum kiosk has books about Türkiye and other items. Many ruins to photograph. Once you are finished at the Mausoleum, the ancient theatre is a short but intense walk up hill a short distance away. Follow the signboards and turn left at the top of the hill. The views are magnificent!

“A powerful place full of history and love. Even in ruins, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus speaks volumes. A must-see for history lovers!”

It was constructed as a tomb for Mausolus, the Persian satrap of Caria, and his wife, Artemisia II. The structure symbolized both the wealth and power of Mausolus, as well as his legacy. It featured a large, rectangular base with a stepped pyramid structure, crowned by a massive chariot with statues of Mausolus and Artemisia. The structure's height and intricate details made it one of the tallest tombs of its time. The mausoleum was originally located on the acropolis of Halicarnassus, overlooking the harbor. The city was part of the Persian Empire during the reign of Mausolus. Despite its ruinous state today, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus remains a significant archaeological and historical site, offering insight into ancient Persian culture and architecture. Tucker price is 3euro PP

The mausoleum, built from 353 to 350 BC, ranked as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Place to go for all those history lovers. 3 euro entrance fee.

Yelp
I didn't research Bodrum at all before we arrived, so I was pretty impressed when the tour company representative mentioned one of the seven wonders of the ancient world being in Bodrum. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is well worth a visit if you're in the town, even just to say you've been and check out some rocks. Pretty much it's just a site of rubble, but you can't really complain - it was built in 350 BC. It's really easy to get to if you're in town, perhaps a 10 minute walk from the water taxi drop off. It's a simple site - just pay your 10 lira (£3) entrance fee and head in. The site is all laid out in front of you and it's a nice place for a walk around, you can go down right in to the base of it. There is an exhibition to the side with some explanatory panels and a TV room if you want to watch a presentation about it. There's seats too if you need to take a break (it gets very, very hot in the sun) and a toilet block. My favourite part about this is that the Mausoleum influenced the building of the Shrine of Remembrance in my home town, Melbourne. There's also some of the artwork from the Mausoleum at the British Museum if you fancy seeing more of it!

Yelp
The ruins of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Worth a visit but no high expectations. Some former knowledge of the Mausoleion's history is required.

Yelp
It's one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. A Must see! At least as a location because most of the artifacts were either taken to museums such as the British Museum where they have a special exhibition room called the Mausoleum of Halikarnas or the ancient stones were used to build Bodrum Castle by the Knights of St. John. (After an earthquake destroyed the Mausoleum) Muze Kart is recommended.
