8 Best Hostels in Budapest in 2025

"I liked Maverick City Lodge in the Jewish Quarter for its privacy and style: huge bunks with large curtains, super-soft beds and sheets, huge colorful well-lit rooms, and regular social events (I especially enjoyed a wine-tasting). Note that the hostel is cash only and requires a key deposit you get back at checkout, and it’s one of the best-looking hostels in Budapest." - Matthew Kepnes

Absolutely fantastic place with friendly staff. Hostel is in a great location with a bar/restaurant attached where u get a discount if u stay in the hostel. The dorm we stayed in was really clean and the lay out is quirky but brilliant. Curtains on all the bunks for privacy and big lockers for large rucksacks. Would definitely stay again

A very pleasant hostel with friendly stuff. Quite calm atmosphere yet interesting people to chat. I loved the fact that they offer free bike rental, is something else to visit Budapest by night on the bicycle when there's not that crowded places. Clean bathrooms and rooms and kitchen full of ustensils and multiple fridges. Cozy atmosphere and a lot of discounts for nearby canteen and Fat Mama restaurant.

Very kind and helpful employees at the reception! Room and beds were fine with enough privacy and large lockers. Location was very nice and everything was nearby, also we rented bikes at the hostel for free! At night there could be much noise from the streets, but at the reception they gave us free earplugs which helped a lot.

The hostel was super good. At first I forgot that it was a hostel. The room was nice and we didn't need more than we got. We had a room with a double bed and two beds that you had to climb up to but it wasn't a problem. The food was good. Kai that was in the reception was super nice. The location was super central and near lots of things. We loved it as a family of four.

I stayed here recently and had one of the worst hostel experiences I’ve ever had. At 4 AM, a guest in my dorm brought a stranger into the room and had sex on the upper bunk right above me. The noise was unbearable, and the bunk was shaking so much that I was genuinely worried about it collapsing. I reported this to reception at 6 AM, but management’s response was dismissive and unhelpful. They tried to deny my booking details just because on my email was the prefer name appeared not my passport name, and they ghosted my email after I tried clarifying it — which is absurd for a professional hostel. On top of this, the common area is extremely disappointing. There are no entertainment facilities (no pool table, no games, nothing to encourage social interaction). For a hostel that advertises itself as social, this was a huge letdown. To make matters worse, after I booked my bed for £30 per night in a 4-bed dorm, the price was suddenly reduced to £20 per night. It feels like they took advantage of early bookings and offered no compensation or adjustment for guests who paid more. Overall, I felt unsafe, disrespected, and overcharged. There are plenty of better hostels in Budapest — I strongly recommend looking elsewhere!

This is a really nice hostel. It is big and the lobby and kitchen are fully equipped and comfortable. The area is perfect for people who want to go out and experience that side of Budapest. It is alive. It is right next to restaurants, bars, vintage shops, cafes. I went to the cafes and to a store. It is also a very historic part of town.. The room was so nice. Tall ceilings above beds, in shared rooms. Large bathrooms. So clean. Thank you.

Great individual room, clean, comfy, not too noisy if window shut, even though in busy area of town. Helpful staff. Only note is the hostel has a laundry service as opposed to machines. Will definitely use again if I visit the city.

This was my first experience staying in a hostel, and it was truly amazing! From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the staff member Haidar, who was friendly and helpful. The location is excellent—close to everything and very convenient for exploring the city. What I loved most was the diversity of guests from all over the world. I even made friends with two of them, which made the experience even more memorable. Definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had, and I highly recommend it!
