Yelp
Given the extremely high price point, not very convenient location, and tiny rooms (seriously- I've traveled pretty extensively, and I've never seen a room this tiny except in a super central location), I just can't recommend the Pentahotel. We stayed here New Year's Eve, before a morning flight back to Chicago on New Year's Day.
The ladies who were working were wonderful- service was very friendly and the bar in the lobby was great- I would have wanted to come here even if I wasn't staying at the hotel. We also ate at the restaurant and found the food to be very good overall. There are complimentary peanuts for bar patrons, and also chess/checkers for entertainment. We hung out in this area for a couple of drinks and didn't feel the need to venture outside the hotel on the cold night.
First, the not so good: The room was tiny. No closet to speak of, and there was only a room with two beds available. I know there wasn't a lot of availability on NYE, but we weren't thrilled to spend the last night of our honeymoon in separate beds. (We told them it was our honeymoon, and we also added it to the reservation, so they were aware). We did have exactly enough space to open our two medium sized suitcases at the same time for final packing before our flight. The bathroom was also quite small, and there was no space to set the bar of soap except on the counter, where it slipped around and dripped water everywhere. The free wifi was set to a ridiculously slow speed- I wasn't planning on downloading anything or streaming, but I wasn't able to VPN into work, and it was actually faster to browse facebook or check email on my 3G data connection on my phone.
Now, the good: The beds were soft, and the down comforter and pillow was wonderful! The room was overall clean, and there was a complimentary bottle of water in the room. They also allowed a one night reservation on NYE.
Note that this hotel would not be accessible for anyone in a wheelchair, with a walker, or, frankly, anyone with super heavy luggage. There are steps to get inside the building (no ramp), and our room was down a hallway, down 3 stairs, and around the corner. Our stuff wasn't that heavy, but this was not an ideal set up for a many types of people, so I want to warn anyone with limited mobility.
I would recommend this hotel only if there's no space at the Hollmann Beletage, where we stayed for 6 days earlier in the trip. I will include the caveat that I am not a super hip person, so this hotel was not super likely to impress me from the moment we walked in the door, but at this price point, I expected better.
