Our family of 4 adults arrived early for our check in so we were able to leave our luggage and explore the city. We returned after 3:00 and were given the key to our room on the 3rd floor. These stairs are steep and curved and would be challenging for some although they do have a lift as well. We booked what we thought was a loft room through a third party and the pictures indicated that we would have two separate sleeping spaces. This was not the case, the room was pretty standard with two double beds. It was a very nice room but just not what we expected. Mirene and Thijs went above and beyond to come up with a fantastic solution for us and we were so thankful. We know that there has been no accommodation in North America who would’ve done this for us. All we can say is this is customer service at its finest. The beds were comfortable and it was very clean. It is a charming hotel and we would stay here again. The location is great and every staff member was the most friendly we’ve ever encountered in all our travels. It is pricey for us Canadians with our poor exchange rate but it was a great stay for our one night in Amsterdam before returning home.

We stayed for three nights with our 6 year old daughter and only have great things to say. Our room was small, but great for the three of us. The staff were exceptional and helpful. We included breakfast with our stay and were very happy with the selection (eggs, cold cuts, toast, pastries, Greek yogurt, cereal). The location was perfect. It is on a quiet street and is walkable to everything. It is about a 30 minute walk to central station, but the location was great for us!

Rooms vary a lot in terms of cleanliness. I highly recommend choosing one of the bright, white rooms over the vintage-styled ones — the difference is noticeable. As of now, only the rooms on the 4th floor have air conditioning, so keep that in mind when booking. The location of the hotel is excellent. Just be aware: the entrance has a steep staircase, which can be challenging if you have heavy luggage. Guests using wheelchairs or with mobility issues should take extra caution. The first room, with its dusty fan, wasn’t ideal — but the way the staff handled it made the rest of my stay fine.

The hotel lays in a beautiful area very close to Amsterdam city Center along beautiful Grachten. The staff is super nice and at first glance the hotel looks really cute. The hotel walls are very thin and it is quite loud in the rooms (the heater made lots of noise as well and it was summer). The rooms are small but clean. Only the cushions on the bed are too big and hard - making sleep not really comfortable. The breakfast ist tasty and they have free gluten-free options which was nice. The hotel ist located perfectly to get anywhere in a beautiful location.

I stayed here for one night and loved my stay. Room 404 was small, but fun and cosy. The view was amazing - I spent hours reading by the window and enjoying the view! Staff was very friendly and they even emailed me when the room was ready which was very helpful. I'd stay here again any time!

The location is the best part. Good breakfast and very welcoming staff. The elevator was working properly without long waits. All of the downsides are the ones expected from an old building, so just be aware when planning your stay. We booked a three person room, and we were able to manage to sleep two nights, but being honest the room would be a better fit for a couple only. The bathroom is also very small, even for a single person, forcing you to sit sideways. The toilet also was clogged and not draining properly.

The best part is perfect location. I really enjoyed being only few minutes away from Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum, Moco etc... Short walk and you are at the canals, exploring amazing Amsterdam. The guy at the reception was really friendly and kind, I am sorry I didn't catch his name. Rooms are as described, basic but clean and with personal touch. I would stay there again. The only scary thing for me are the steep stairs😵‍💫 Fortunately there is an elevator.

Starting off the design of the rooms were nice but the rooms were TINY AND HAD NO AC. DEFINITELY DO NOT COME DURING THE SUMMER, the room feels like a sauna during the day and at night you have to sleep with the balcony doors open which smells like marijuana from the people below and is extremely loud. Not to mention the service. Simon was very nice and treated us quite nice but the hotel itself only cleans the rooms once every 2 days and DO NOT ASK THEM TO HELP YOU GET A TAXI. Najib booked us a taxi after we gave him several hours of anticipation and clearly stated we needed a big car however, he instead booked us a small car that we did not fit in and it arrived 15 minutes late. The only upside was the location as it was pretty well located but there are plenty of other hotels nearby which I’m sure do a better job.

Yelp
The only good part about this place is the location. It's pretty centrally located and close to a lot of the sites as well restaurants and shops. The rooms are incredibly small. The sofa bed was probably 3 feet away from the other bed and it was diffucult to find a place to put our luggage. The sofa bed is essentially a futon that wasn't very comfortable. The bathroom felt like a cruise ship bathroom and was tiny. There weren't many amenities in the room, there was a kettle with some tea bags but they didn't give any water bottles and I didn't see a mini fridge or coffee machine. The biggest issue was that there was a heater that wouldn't turn off. We had asked the staff multiple times to turn it off but they didn't seem to know how to operate the heater. The room was sweltering hot even with the window wide open (that didn't have a screen so bugs came in). I barely got any sleep in the 2 nights that I was there between the bed being uncomfortable and it being too hot. I was on the same level as the lobby but the rooms upstairs and downstairs had very steep narrow staircases that seemed difficult. This place should be charging half considering the small rooms and lack of amenities.

Yelp
Here's the down and dirty... The location is absolutely fabulous. It's close to many museums, and my favorite designer stores. Yes, as a complete sidenote there is an entire street filled with every upscale designer you can possibly fathom. The hotel is mediocre at best, with Customer Service falling right behind it. It's a place you stay for the location and that's about it. There are definitely other hotels in the immediate area, and I would encourage you to check those out before staying here. The bed was uncomfortable, the bathroom like most European bathrooms are fairly small, but this one was unclean and the towels were actually pretty gross. I tried calling the front desk to request towels, and they never answered the phone.Inevitably, we ended up going down to the front desk to ask for the towels, and they pretty much provided us with the same gross smelling towels that we had in the room. Max Brown Hotel is just quick and easy... But I would encourage everyone to stay elsewhere if possible

Yelp
This was a great hotel for our family (2 parents and a 7 year old son). It was a great location, close to museums, close to river cruises, plenty of things within walking distance. And not in the middle of nightlife, so it wasn't loud at night. The room was pretty big for European hotel rooms. The beds were comfortable (even the extra twin for the kid)! The room had a small balcony which was cool. Staff were friendly and helpful. And they would refill water bottles with ice and water at the bar! It was great to have ice water in Europe!!! There's a grocery store within walking distance, and lots of restaurants. So much cool stuff to walk around and see, and easy spot to bike around from!!! The hotel has bikes available for rent.

Yelp
We had a nice stay here. The room were fairly roomy and because we had a balconies it made them feel bigger. It is centrally located and near the museums, yet located in more of a residential area. In fact, if you weren't paying attention you might just walk by it. The morning buffet was just okay and I don't know if I'd order it again. The shining star at the hotel is the staff. They are at reception 24/7 and no matter what time you arrive/leave, they are welcoming, accommodating, and all around fantastic human beings. :)

Yelp
Very disappointed by this hotel. The room size is stupidly small, you can't even open your suitcase. Yes, the staff is friendly but that doesn't cut it when you get cramped in your room. Please avoid.

Yelp
Friendly staff. The room was clean and had everything we needed. Great location. Steep stairs but they do have a lift.

Yelp
A nice little hotel situated in the heart of Amsterdam. Slays: - charming decor and thoughtful design - nice staff - quaint atmosphere and good vibes - location - clean - relatively affordable (my friend and i spit a room for $120 a night) Nays: - stairs are incredibly steep - rooms are cramped - unless you get a room with a balcony, the windows don't open sufficiently enough to smoke (i'm aware that this is a smoke free hotel, i'm just mention it, because it's Amsterdam, you know) I would come back but not before staying somewhere else first

Yelp
The Max Brown is in a fantastic location. It is a few minutes walk from all the museums and the Concertgebouw. They have bikes for rent, so if you know it's going to be sunny the next day, wake up early to reserve them, or else they will be gone! Every person that works at the hotel was very helpful and friendly. The room we had was quite big compared to others we've had in Amsterdam. The view from the 4th floor was amazing! My husband is 6'1" and I am 6', so we had a huge problem using the toilet. I have never seen a bathroom wall as close to the edge of the toilet as the one we had in our room. I could barely sit on the seat at all. It was quite difficult for a taller person. The shower, however, was the first shower we've ever used while traveling in Europe that hasn't leaked all over the bathroom. That was a big deal for us. I will say that I was woken up one night by some scratching. I thought someone was trying to get into our room, so I turned on the light and got out of bed to investigate. I looked down and saw a brown ball of fur run through my legs and under the bed. Apparently we were sleeping with some mice as well! I'm pretty sure they lived in the seat under the window. It freaked me our for a second but I know those buildings are so old that it didn't seem like such an odd occurrence. I would still stay there again, but maybe in another room.

Yelp
I stayed here with my friends from june 28th to july 1st and when we left we were all missing money. We had three rooms for 7 girls and all of us had money stolen from us from the safety deposit box. The hotel was aware of what happened and they did nothing about it. Do not stay here. The rooms are very little and its dirty.

Yelp
Hotel staff are friendly, accommodating, and extremely helpful! Hotel is modern with great decor. Great location right outside of the main part of the city on a quiet street. 15 minute walk to the central station, across the street from Van Gogh Museum and I Amsterdam sign. Highly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
A great location- fairly close to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum, on a quiet little street. Easy walking to main drag (10-15 minutes away.) Rooms were insanely small (I could lay on the bed and touch each wall on the side if I splayed my legs and arms out enough), and the setup was rather bizarre (over 50% of the bed touches wall, so my wife had to always crawl over me to get out of bed.) Internet in lobby was appreciated but down half the time we were there. Staff was very friendly and courteous and didn't laugh too hard at my attempts at Dutch. Breakfast was included (downstairs, a neat little cafeteria-like setting.)

Yelp
Really cool, modern hotel in a fantastic location. The hotel staff was very courteous and helpful with directions, busses etc. Main complaint is that the rooms are so small. There is not much room and all and I had to sit 45 degrees on the toilet because it's tucked in a little corner of the bathroom. The stairs are also pretty steep, watch your step!

Yelp
Very small room for 2 adults and our teenage son. No storage. I have had a bigger room and a ton more storage for our 3 carry on bags on a cruise ship The Location is right in the heart of the museum south district and the only reason I'm giving it the 4 stars. No AC so the room and it was hot with just a single fan. On the plus side, it does have a newly remodeled modern in room bath with upgraded shower. We are here for 4 more night. So the review may go up or down depending on other factors such as staff, other issues

Yelp
Great location, helpful service and really nice rooms. Yes, the rooms were a bit small but I don't mind that. At least the bed was nice and big! Plus, there was a cool little window-seat area where we could put our stuff. Minor quibble: extremely squeaky bathroom door. But other than that, I was quite happy with this place. Also, free breakfast! If you go to the free breakfast definitely try the gingery bread thing, as it's amazing. Free tea and coffee too. Only negatives other than the squeaky door: 1.) When we got there, the only room available for us was a twin room (this was not their fault, as we booked through Hotel Tonight in a last ditch attempt to find a place after another hotel canceled on us.) They told us they would give us a room with a double bed, but it had been used for "5 minutes" before the previous occupants decided to upgrade. When we got there, the bed was made and clean but literally all the towels were dirty. It was incredibly weird. However, we were on our way out to dinner so we just notified hotel staff and they said they'd put new towels in there immediately. Unfortunately when we returned from our long dinner, the dirty towels were still there. We had to remind them again. However the second time they actually did bring them up immediately, so we were happy. 2.) Currently there is a lot of construction going on around it. Not the fault of the hotel, but it definitely doesn't look nice from the outside right now. At least it's pretty inside!

Yelp
Max Brown Hotel Museum Square received an average score of a 3 from us. My wife and I use this TripAdvisor account as a joint account. I rated the hotel a 2 and she rated it a 4. The hotel is a hip place with great decorations, it is very clean, and the service is excellent. The location is pretty good with access to a couple of tram stations for getting around Amsterdam. However, I gave the hotel a low rating because everything is uncomfortably small. I am 6'7", and I understand that I shouldn't expect European hotels to accommodate my height, but the Max Brown Museum Square has the worst height clearances of any hotel I've ever been in. Even the front door required me to duck. The staircase is tiny and winding and the elevator holds two people. The ceiling of the elevator is probably 6'8" with a light that will melt your head. The ceiling of the staircase is maybe 6'0". The rooms are cruise-ship tiny. There wasn't room for a single leg next to the bed. The bathroom was also extremely small. Lastly, the breakfast was good, but the breakfast room was kept extremely hot by a constantly running toaster oven.

M N.

Yelp
Staff: A+. Everyone here from the people at the front desk to the people cleaning rooms to the people working in the kitchens were so so genuinely nice and helpful. Location: A+. It's right on Museumplein and right between major trams and is walkable to most major attractions. Breakfast: A+. Better than a lot of continental breakfasts that are offered at other hotels. There was tea, coffee, juice, breakfast breads (apple/spice), cold cuts, cheese, scones, various kinds of toast, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, cucumbers, tomatoes. Rooms: B. This is not a cookie cutter hotel and while it may have had some quirky decor, it lacked in comfort. We got the medium triple which meant that it had a queen bed and also what they called a sofa bed which was more like a park bench with an uncomfortable mattress on top. This extra "sofa bed" was super uncomfortable. The walls were thin. I could hear when our neighbors slid hangers in their closet or when they set down a glass. There was about a half-inch gap between the room door and the floor so we could hear everything that happened in the halls including the elevator door slamming closed every few minutes on all the different floors and people coming and going at all hours. They should put a rubber stopper or some foam or something to close the gap and block out the noise. The bathroom was SO small and the toilet seat was so close to the wall right in front of it. I'm only 5 feet tall and I couldn't even bend my knees to sit down facing the right direction so I often sat down sideways on the toilet. I can't imagine how normal sized people can use this toilet. In order to climb into the shower, there was a STEEP step. Imagine climbing in and out of this thing when it's wet. To add to the challenge, there was one of those swinging towel racks right outside the shower so if you weren't careful and slipped, you could impale yourself. My other issue with this place is that the workers tend to assume that you're out during the day so they can shout as much as they like in the hallways during the day. It was impossible to rest in the room after being jetlagged because it was so loud outside. I've never stayed in a hotel where I was always made acutely aware that there was a room being cleaned nearby because of all the noise. Speaking of cleaning, we would get back to our hotel room at 2 or 3pm and the room still hadn't been cleaned. We had to take out our own trash on several occasions. There was no fridge in the room which made things inconvenient. There isn't an air conditioner but there is a fan. We were fine in the spring, but don't know how how that would be in the summer. There is also a large window without any screen or bars and the window swings wide open like a door so I wouldn't come here with small children. The hotel has 4 floors and one elevator which can tightly fit 4 people. The stairs of the hotel are a narrow, winding death trap with barely any room for your feet. So good luck with that. All in all, we would not stay here again. I would not recommend this place to anyone with a disability or small children. I thought that the hotel was expensive for the quality of the rooms, but I guess you are paying for the location, not the room. For over 300 a night, I shouldn't have felt like were were making do.

Ava P.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful and modern. The rooms are nice and clean and there is cool modern art on the walls as well as a mini basketball hoop. The front desk staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the city. The lobby has tables and a bar where they sell drinks and candy. The breakfast is nice but the selection of things is kind of small, but it is included. Beautiful hotel, hope I can go back someday!

Jeff R.

Yelp
I loved it , great hotel. Not a summer hotel no a/c. Breakfast and bar Were great, location perfect. Everything is small in Amsterdam and I'm a big guy, but it was just fine. I'll be back
