I liked the location of the hostel, the overall building and rooms (a bit old style, cozy) and the price was fair. Unfortunately I had a negative experience with a guy in the common kitchen. After I asked him if he could wash his dirty dishes which he had left in the sink, he exploded and assaulted me verbally telling me all kinds of things like all Germans were disturbed, that I couldn't tell him anything, that I was mentally sick, that he didn't respect people like me, etc. He wouldn't stop talking and after I put away his dishes, he put them back on mine. I felt very bad after this incident because it came out of the blue and I found it extreme. When I wanted to talk about this issue to the manager the next morning, she took a lot of time to take care of it (approx. 15h). In the end, she just gave the guy a warning. He kept occupying the common kitchen all the time and kept leaving his dishes in the sink which was ok for the manager. I didn't use the kitchen anymore after that incident, apart from going in and out quickly to get something. I also considered leaving the hostel early because I didn't feel safe there anymore, but because the manager took care of the issue so late, I stayed there one more night. I read in other comments that negative experiences of solo female travellers with long time solo male guests (as was this guy) are not so rare. Management needs to take harder consequences on such behavior, otherwise bad guys know they will get through with everything and keep on with their bad behavior and the normal people are the ones who will leave. I also find it inappropriate to fill a room with just one woman and one man, as happened to me (not with that guy). I think many women will not feel safe in such a situation.

The hostel is in excellent location- very close to city centrum and also to main railway station. It was cool that it was not crowded at all. I booked 8 people room but on both nights we were only 3. Other guests were also very nice. I did attend a dancing event taking place on ground floor dance studio. Perfect place for the purpose. Late check in option was very valuable. I could not get to Bonn in reception working hours. The kitchen and common area was good and very usable. There is no local luminaires, so you can only switch everything on. That is big minus, if someone comes back in night. Key cards are not working and doors are open all the time. Everyone can go inside the room and take what they want. I did put all important stuff in locker, but still it is not very good. To access internet, you need to write password every hour(at least with my phone that was the case). Lockers are with keys, but you also need one euro coin. Which I did not have and I had to pay with cash to get it. I like to pay with card almost always. There are only two working sockets(as far as I saw) in 8 bed room. If there would be more people, then charging devices would be a problem. There are no curtains. Reception is working only from 16 to 19. That is very short time span. Showers and WC are outside in staircase.

If someone is going to visit Bonn and has a small financial budget, it is recommended to stay at the Max hostel. It is located a few minutes walk from the Bonn Old Town and a short distance from the train station and bus stops. The hostel is very clean, there are many bathrooms with showers and a large kitchen where you can prepare your own meal or tea. During check-in, the friendly owner Michael will provide all the necessary information regarding your stay. I definitely recommend it. P.S. There is a dance school in the same building, so if anyone would like to take a few lessons, this is a great opportunity.😀😀😀😀

It was a nice hostel, especially for the price. The dorms are nice and small and the beds were comfortable although it would have been nice to have a plug next to the bed. Bathrooms were fine, but one of the showers was really dirty.

I stayed 7 days at MaxHostel in Bonn and I really enjoyed it. The decoration/design is really sweet and they have a nice, comfortable lounge downstairs. You can use the kitchen whenever you want. Just hang out at the couches, cook a meal or save your groceries in the fridge. The bath rooms are clean, you can dry your hands via towels (very sustainable thinking), showers are fine... nothing to complain about! The sleeping rooms are clean as well, the rooms can be logged via electronic cards and you can save your personal belonging in a locker (you have to put in one Euro). ||Breakfast was really nice, they serve coffee, cappuchino, tea, juice. During breakfast time you have for one hour free Wifi, otherwise you have to pay for Wifi (3 Euro for 24 hours or 6 euros for 7 days). The owners are very friendly, are open-minded and try to help you in any case. ||It's especially a nice place to stay for students, student groups or backpackers. They location of the hostel is perfect, It's near the Central Station in the old part of the city. Therefore, you have a lot of nice cafes, bars and small shops around. In front of the hostel you have place to play football and table tennis. In the same buildings of the hostel is a dancing school. But it is not very noisy, just close your door ;-)

I stayed for only one night at the womans dorm. The hostel is beautyfully decorated, every room has its own charm. But Ikea wooden bunk beds were a bit suspect to me. Also there were no sockets or lamps on the single beds. The bathroom was super clean and had a lot of privacy! When I was there, there were only a minimal number of guests so I can not judge the atmosphere properly - but they do have a great common room with kitchen inside. Nice and helpful staff. I would not recommend the breakfast. It was quite expensive for a couple of old rolls - but a nice option.

There seems to be something slightly off-putting about this hostel initially, possibly having to do with the location on a modest narrow street at the back of the main rail station, and I actually asked to view my dorm before committing to it, but my concerns soon proved unjustified. It is a small hostel -in fact just a flat on the first floor above a dance school (whom the right type might feel tempted to ask for a free trial) but reception staff came across as both very friendly and professional. They are not there 24 hours, though, so better don't need them at night. I arrived expecting to be invited to use my own bedding in exchange for a discount, but they seem to have just introduced a compulsory-bedding policy and I welcome this. They also seem to be trying to introduce a compulsory breakfast policy, which I did NOT welcome, but when I told them I needed to check out early they agreed to waive breakfast and its price for me. The lounge/common room with an open-plan kitchen are eminently practical but the kitchen is vastly insufficient for the number of users (only two hobs, packed fridge with almost no available space). €26 bought me one bed in a simple two-bunk room which actually looked quite stylish, with an urban-chic vibe, although the horrible steel tubing bed frame had been designed with a set of thin ladder steps which will sank mercilessly in your feet soles while climbing barefoot. Fellow guests seem to be mostly college students, with an obvious tendency to party wildly late into the night, although luckily they did so in town rather than at the hostel. Bathrooms surprisingly well-kept. Cheap food and toiletries can be bought easily from an excellent Netto supermarket close by on Oxfordstrasse and all kinds of technology from a brilliant Media Markt branch on the way to the station. WiFi is, frustratingly, not free, which I see as a major customer service failure. Otherwise the location is extremely practical and the venue potentially a great place to meet people; I wish I could have stayed longer and would definitely come back.

The staff here are great. There was a mix up with my booking and they were very kind and let me stay in a single room for no extra charge because I was accidentally booked into a full dorm. I really appreciated how friendly and helpful they were.||||The location of this hostel is also very good. It is close to the train station and city centre, but the street is also very quiet.||||However this hostel likes its extra fees. There is a late check in fee of 5 euro, and the front desk closes at 8pm. If you are coming in late they email you info about unlocking a box to get your key, which is helpful but I can't help but feel 8pm is early to shut down the front desk. Check in also doesn't start until 4 pm, so there is very limited time to check in and talk to staff in the afternoon/evening. I saw no signs of a luggage room, though there could be one I missed. Because of my booking issue I also had to call a number to talk to staff, which might be an issue if you did not plan on using your minutes while travelling. There are two breakfast options, a large (which was over 6 euro) and a small (that was around 4). I just went around the corner to cafes to get breakfast for cheaper. You have to pay extra for wifi (3 euro for 24 hours), which just seems silly nowadays. I could also only get the wifi to work in the hallways and common room, not the room, which again seems very odd for a youth hostel nowadays. So many people now use the internet to plan their entire trip, get directions, call home, etc, it might as well just have wifi included in the overall price.||||Everything was decently clean but felt a bit dusty around the edges. There is no elevator, so if you are not great with stairs or have a lot of luggage it might not be the best. There are notes on the walls everywhere reminding you to clean up after yourself, which I completely understand but it got a little excessive, all of them were in an condescending "we're not your mom" tone. I wondered if this place attracts especially messy guests. It didn't feel particularly welcoming.||||It was cheap and it did the job. But if I were to come back to Bonn, I would give somewhere else a try.

Yelp
I tried to make a reservation in this hostel and in the end it didn't work out. First of all, since I was looking to book a late arrival (after 8 pm), I was asked to pay for my entire stay upfront. In order to do so, I was asked to send my credit card information via email (?!). An alternative option was to call them, which turned out to cost 2 € per minute for calls from a mobile network in Germany. On top of this, I would have to pay a late check, as well as a WiFi fee. For all these reasons I decided to go for another accommodation. The stars are for the staff, which was nice throughout the whole booking shenanigans.

Yelp
My experience here has always been great, for each of the four times I've stayed here. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and secure, and the location is convenient. It's not in the prettiest part of town by any means, but it's safe and close to basically anything you might want to visit in the city. Wifi is fast, but it costs €3 for 24 hours of access (or €1 for one hour), but other than that it's everything you would expect from a hostel. Breakfast is not included in the price, but for €3.50 you get a coffee and a bread roll, plus whatever you'd like on the roll. You can also have all you can eat for €6.50. In conclusion, if you're planning a visit to Bonn and want a cheap place to sleep, this is by far your best bet!

Yelp
Probably the cheapest place to stay in Bonn. In the center, clean, friendly staff.
