I have visited Kathmandu frequently on business through most of my professional life. From 2022 when I discovered this fine establishment, to present day, Maya Manor has been my choice of HQ. There are a number of reasons for that. ||Location: It's in the heart of the city, a 5 minute (brisk) walk from Durbar Marg, and another 5 to Thamel. However, it's quite nicely tucked away, so it's quiet through the day and evening with none of the craziness Thamel or Durbar Marg can descend into occasionally. Naxal, Bhatbhetini, Lazimpat are but mere strolls away. It's also perfectly positioned for my ritual morning walk when in the valley—a three-quarter circle around Narayanhiti Palace and then right through Tridevi Marg, left through Jyatha and on to Indra Chowk via Asan Tole, stopping at the Luchunbhulu Ajima temple on the way, people-watching near the Bhairavs and back. If I need to cross the Bagmati, or head towards Budhanilkantha, Swayambhu or Boudhanath, cabs are readily available around the hotel, or if not, the good folk at the reception will call you one with alacrity.||Room: Very clean and compact, plenty of space in the wardrobe; bathroom is small but clean and very well-equipped. Nice bird's-eye view of the city. ||Gym: Pulleys, light dumbbells, treadmill, stationery bike, pull up bar. Good enough for me. I carry some resistance bands to supplement.||The patio: Sunny, plenty of seating. Perfect for meetings, or to just sit down and work quietly or read with a cup of coffee. I have spent many productive days there. The staff is always attentive without ever, and I can't emphasize this enough, ever being intrusive. There are no electrical outlets in the patio, so one has to make sure one's devices have juice before one settles down, and hook it up in the Moonshine Bar yonder when needed. I take it as a cue to go analog for a while, or quietly enjoy the company of the hotel's very discrete, polite, social-distancing kitties. ||Conference Room: Well-appointed, have attended a few with about 40 delegates. Everything works as they should.||Food: I recommend the fish and chips and the Newari rice thali, although pretty much all items are wholesome and tasty. The French Press coffee, which I consume by the gallons when I am working out of the hotel, can be intense, so maybe press the plunger early. ||People: Everyone is helpful, pleasant and welcoming round the clock (they once managed to get me emergency epoxy glue for my boots at 1 am so that I didn't have to attend a breakfast meeting the next morning in my bedroom slippers. A special mention here for Purnima Ji at F&B, who always insists on stuffing a packed breakfast into my resisting hands as I rush out for a morning meeting in Jwalakhel. Thank you for always taking such good care of me, Purnima Ji and everyone else at Maya Manor. I hope to see you all again soon.
