I’ve stayed in hostels across Europe and must say, this hostel is top notch. The price is incredible, the location is excellent, the entire place is clean, and the amenities are perfect. Uriel, Emanuel, Emanuel, Vanessa, Brian, and all of the staff I interacted with are incredible people. They were helpful, friendly, personable, and more than willing to give tips about traversing Tulum. I stayed for 5 days and was treated with friendly conversations, respect, and lots of fun. You can rent mopeds, bikes, and taxis right from the front desk. For anyone considering a stay in Tulum, this is the place. Cheers y’all!

We stayed at the Mayan Monkey and there were definitely some pros and cons to the experience. On the positive side, the amenities were great. Everything was very clean, and our private room was comfortable and nicely kept. That said, there were a few things that left us with a less-than-great impression. The hotel definitely has a party hostel vibe, with loud music going until around 1am, which may not be ideal if you’re looking for a quieter stay. At check-in, I had already paid the tourist tax in advance, but it was charged again—something I only realized at the end. It wasn’t clear if this was a mistake or intentional, but it didn’t sit right. The most disappointing part came at checkout. A cleaner came in to do a “room inspection” (the first time I’ve ever experienced this in a hotel), and we were told a mug was missing. We hadn’t touched the coffee machine because the coffee was all decaf, so it was confusing to be charged $6 for something we hadn’t used. It honestly felt like the mug had gone missing elsewhere and we were blamed for it. Overall, while the facilities themselves were nice, the unexpected charges and the atmosphere made the stay less enjoyable than it could have been. If you’re looking for a party vibe, it might suit you—but if you value quiet and straightforward service, you may want to consider alternatives.

Super great hostel. We had a very good time here and would come back again in a heartbeat. The staff was super friendly, helpful, and always had a smile on their faces. The rooms were extra clean and the beds were comfortable. We can only recommend it.

Great for a solo traveler! Easily one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at! The property is massive. Staff is super helpful. There’s events each day. Can’t complain. My only gripe is that I came during the slow season, so there aren’t as many people as I’d like.

📖 Story time! I was banned from the property indefinitely this week because the management (Carlos and Pedro) decided, without evidence or any conversation with me beforehand, that I was stealing their business and was a local promoter getting paid/benefits to take guests to other places. 😂 The reality? I’m literally just a solo tourist lmao. I barely speak Spanish, much less work for anyone in Tulum. Like literally every other hostel guest, I make friends and we go do things together. 🍼 I only found out because someone told me, and only then did management decide to have a conversation with me. Otherwise, they were going to blindside me when I checked out. Childish behavior. They also got mad at this person for telling me lol ⁉️ The issue, they eventually explained, was that on multiple occasions I was seen leaving with groups of people. Well no shit, I’d been staying here for almost two months so of course I’m the common denominator. It’s called making new friends lmao. So essentially I was banned for being too social. 🧐 Again, their only evidence was that it “looked like” I was taking their business. They tried this same nonsense with another person, saying they had a “secret guest list” for La Pizzine (local bar). The reality? It’s a public RSVP every Monday on their IG story lmao 🌴 People come to Tulum to explore the local nightlife, beaches, culture, and food. They don’t come here to spend 24/7 at a hostel, so getting upset that tourists choose to be tourists is dumb, and really just bad business. 👎 Additional critiques: - mold in all the bathrooms - dorm doors slam shut all the time - room cleaning starts way too early - the kitchen refrigerators always break 📉 Other things to note: - they offer you a free drink/shot to leave a 5-star review to inflate their ratings - they write fake reviews themselves as well, particularly on Booking.com - management is largely toxic and two-faced, verified by both current and past employees and guests 👍 Now the good: - bar staff are wonderful - reception staff also great - cleaning ladies are so nice - resident DJ is great, and deserves better - fish tacos are solid

Was planning two days at this place, ended up extending for a week! Rooms are super clean and beds don’t squeak which is a first. Staff are super nice and very easy to meet other people through hostel activities. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning a stay in Tulum.

Everything was incredible! The rooms were super cozy and Uriel taught an awesome Margarita making class! They also offer great scooter and bike rentals, as well as activities to get to know your fellow travelers. 10/10 experience!

They advertise that this place is a safe heaven for all different kind of travelers but it really is more of a party hostel. They have happy hours starting from 8 am throughout town he whole day. There has been a lot of stealing, people lying that they are guests of the hotel so that they can sneak in with you to use the amenities. For me personally I feel REALLY unsafe as a woman alone. I have a very spiritual mindset, I work close to the Mayan monkey and needed a place to restore my energy. But haven’t to keep my guard up from all the drunk people, watching my stuff and food 24/7 so it doesn’t get stolen.. it’s not a perfect combination for me. But if you’re in to partying and being drunk the whole day.. this place really is your vibe!
