Mayan Monkey Hostel Tulum

I had a really great stay at Mayan Monkey and the longer I think about it, the more I realize how comfortable and almost “luxurious” it actually felt for a hostel. The hostel has a beautiful garden area and a huge common space, plus very fast WiFi — perfect if you need to work remotely. It’s maybe not the most social hostel ever (even though they try with activities), but that made it ideal for getting work done. The 12-bed dorm was surprisingly private and spacious. Each bed had curtains, power outlets, and a small bench at the foot of the bed for storage. The lockers are very large, and the room had two toilets, two showers, and two sinks — which made a big difference. Everything was very clean. The kitchen is a good size and well equipped (paper towels etc. always available). Many guests cook, though drinks at the bar are a bit expensive. There are also laundry facilities and a nice garden to relax in. Location-wise: • About 15 minutes by bike to the beach (you can rent it at the hostel) • Around 35 minutes walking from the ADO bus terminal Taxis in the area are still quite expensive and sometimes difficult, so the cheapest and easiest option for us was booking a driver through inDrive. Nice extra: If you spontaneously extend your stay at the front desk, you get 10% off — which is a great deal. Overall, super clean, lots of space, very fast WiFi, functional kitchen, laundry facilities — the more I think about it, the more it feels like a very comfortable and well-designed hostel. I’d definitely stay again!

Offering shared and private rooms. breakfast included with great indulgent as well as healthy options. Fantastic night life in the bar and pool area, with planned activities like salsa dancing class, live music and even pop up tattoo artists. Group yoga classes in the A.M. in the indoor common area. Perfect location near the Tulum National Park, which has unbelievably beautiful beaches and Ancient Mayan Ruins. 10/10 vacation spot. The customer service, especially that of Brian, Kevin and Alexis went above and beyond. The staff makes you feel not just well taken care of as a customer, but genuinely cared for as a friend!

Mayan Monkey Tulum was a fun place to stay during the new year celebrations. They hosted a fun party with a DJ on New Year's Eve with plenty of people. The rooms are fairly well kept with comfortable beds and a large privacy curtain that makes a big difference. The other travelers I met made my trip so much more fun and the hostel does a decent job of hosting icebreakers to meet people. They also have their own Whatsapp group message you can join when you check in to connect with others. Other travelers I talked to mentioned as far as hostels go this is one of the nicest ones they've been to. So if you're traveling on a budget, this is a good place to stay.

I had the best time at Mayan monkey rooms are clean people are friendly I’ve made the best memories and best friends here! My servers brian and deigo were amazing! I always enjoyed seeing them every morning they made my day! So enjoyable fast service. Always gave me the best options for food and so friendly! Love them so much they made my experience 10/10

It is a party hostel in Tulum so we didn't expect that much. Rooms war okay - the dorms have seen better days in the past I guess. We upgraded to a private room - was super comfy so nothing to complain here. Service/Front Desk was okay nothing special. But holy moly the DJs are something... I think they never heard themself playing. Ofc music can be louder but it was so loud that the bass notes were bleeding into each other. They stopped playing between 00:30 and 1:30am and so liud that even in the room it was just too noisy and everything was vibrating. Even the more partying guests complained about it. We were happy as we finally could leave the Hostel. Sad becaus on the first glimpse it looked really cool.

The rooms are very clean and everyone is very nice. The prices are decent but tricky. They look very cheap online but then double in person due to a "tax" but federal and state taxes should only be 23% not 100%. That said, the price is pretty decent. The staff are friendly and the events are mostly all free and quite fun. Overall with the exception of the discrepancy between the advertised and actual price, its a very nice hotel. Location is kinda far from the beach and the city center, but there is nice stuff around.

We stayed at the Mayan Monkey and there were definitely some pros and cons to the experience. On the positive side, the amenities were great. Everything was very clean, and our private room was comfortable and nicely kept. That said, there were a few things that left us with a less-than-great impression. The hotel definitely has a party hostel vibe, with loud music going until around 1am, which may not be ideal if you’re looking for a quieter stay. At check-in, I had already paid the tourist tax in advance, but it was charged again—something I only realized at the end. It wasn’t clear if this was a mistake or intentional, but it didn’t sit right. The most disappointing part came at checkout. A cleaner came in to do a “room inspection” (the first time I’ve ever experienced this in a hotel), and we were told a mug was missing. We hadn’t touched the coffee machine because the coffee was all decaf, so it was confusing to be charged $6 for something we hadn’t used. It honestly felt like the mug had gone missing elsewhere and we were blamed for it. Overall, while the facilities themselves were nice, the unexpected charges and the atmosphere made the stay less enjoyable than it could have been. If you’re looking for a party vibe, it might suit you—but if you value quiet and straightforward service, you may want to consider alternatives.

Overall, the hotel is a good place to stay. We had a private double room. One point to raise, however, is the lack of professionalism shown by the staff. At check-in, we weren't told that breakfast was included. This wasn't specified on our booking confirmation (through mayan monkey website), we only found out on the last day, and by the time we asked for it, we were told we were 10 minutes too late. So we complained to reception (2x2 breakfasts missed) who told us we should have understood that the color of our wristband meant breakfast was included as if it were obvious… No apology and no commercial gesture proposal, we felt like a stupid customer. They are clearly devoid of any business sense
