We had a 1 night stay during the blistering heatwave for our anniversary with our small child. We politely asked for a non smoking room, with myself being asthmatic. We checked in and we had a pungent smell, which we could not figure out what it was. We initially thouggt the smell was emulating from the over worked air conditioner, but our excitement and adrenaline ignore the initially issues. As we settled down, relaxing, we have notice the pillow covers as old, with dust and markings of second hand cover pillows that hasn't been thoroughly cleaned or new. We also spotted some leftover popcorn slightly under the bed and some old wrappers of the previous room stayers, indulging on some cheap special cheesecakes from woolworth. Arghhg the irony. We came back from our evening stroll marvelling at the not so iconic mall balls and hit the elevator to our floor. This is when, it dawned on us. We were placed in level four where the not so big sign indicated "Smoking precinct". We complained. The damage was done. The 1 night we had away as a family marred. Adrenaline gone. Excitement turned to anxiety and disappointment. But we must carry on and look at the positive to salvage our night. The staff apologise and promised to move us to a new and improv... i mean, a new and non smoking room like we have requested. We packed up, trying to manufacture our second wind of exctiement. You guessed it. We were placed right next to the gym. I am not sure if that was a sign that my dad body was doing any one any favours that i needed a night time 9pm personal training routine to shed a few inches of my waistline. We checked out thinking, there a better, newer options available in the CBD that would accomodate to our simply request. Fast forward, we thought the drama wouldnt continue. I had an asthatic episode using my puffer like the big bad wolf and due to us moving rooms, they took our deposit money twice and we had to take screenshots of our account to prove it.
We won't be coming back. There are better newer established hotels that are attentive to their customers. Marriot, the oval or EOS to name a few in no particular order.
