The Real Reason You Have Swollen Ankles After Flying

"A major medical authority explains that swelling of the feet and ankles during flights (edema) is typically caused by prolonged sitting: keeping the feet on the floor and the seated leg position allows blood to pool in the leg veins, raising venous pressure and pushing fluid into surrounding soft tissues. It also notes that for healthy travelers the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) on an airplane is very low for flights under about four hours, with the chance starting to rise on flights over roughly 12 hours." - Sophie Friedman Sophie Friedman Sophie Friedman is a journalist, editor, and fact-checker specializing in travel and anything related to it. I cannot say enough good things about my experience at Mayo Clinic. Every staff member, nurse, and physician I’ve interacted with truly cares about the patients - it’s something I’ve never experienced anywhere else. It’s by far the largest medical facility I’ve ever been treated at, yet it’s the place where I’ve experienced the most individualized care and personal attention. The place is huge and yet they do a great job providing resources and directions to make it an easy to understand process from start to finish.

Google
Such a wonderful clinic! Very loving and caring! They provide the best team and care for my mother. Thank you Jessica Mitchell for answering all of my families questions especially my father’s questions since not only was this something new and concerning for him but being patient with the language barrier! We appreciate you all! Again very thankful for the team taking care of my mother! Thank you!

Google
It is so big it's kinda confusing to know where to go. But staff is so helpful in every aspect. Very clean and organized. After the first visit, not so bad to know where to go, park, etc. road construction is terrible right now in the area , but can't really help that. I can really see where the doctors truly are top notch, and whole staff really down to the greeters. Even the local businesses are very supportive and most hotels will offer a shuttle ride to the front door if needed. Amazing place!

Google
I've gone here around 30 times but my sister has to go here 4 times a year, she got her heart transplant here and I saw how kind and supportive the staff was. They made sure she was comfortable all the time, got her a stuffed animal and got her juice whenever she wanted. The food is nice and the art is a nice touch. Never met a bad doctor or nurse here.

I was advised by my HR manager at work to get a second opinion for a nodule found in my lung. The first provider wanted to rip out a portion of my lung. But the Mayo Clinic did more thorough examinations. Extraction was not necessary. I see why people around the World choose Mayo.

Google
I have been to the Mayo clinic twice. On a five star rating I would give them a ten. I don't have a lot of experience with medical centers but I have been to both Barnes and St Louis University hospitals both are good hospitals and I would use them again but Mayo is by far the best I have ever been at. I have been to Mayo twice and both times Mayo was just excellent. I have been so impressed with Mayo that I give to them on a regular basis from what little funds I have. If I ever have a critical issue and I want the best care I will be back at Mayo.

My son had a condition where his skull plates fused together too early. We decided to give Mayo Clinic a try and we met with a pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ahn. The very first visit I knew I could trust him! He had a slideshow he put together and explained everything very very well. He was very sweet and knowledgeable. The day of my son’s surgery he came to the pre op room and talked to us then asked if he could pray over us and the surgical team and we said of course! He walked over and put his hand in my son’s head and prayed! You don’t see that much anymore! This doctor is one amazing man! I would not trust my son with anyone else! And of course the surgery went great and he even got done before he told us it would be done! My son was in some pain that night which is expected! He got to come home the next day! The next day he woke up and was 100% himself! If your child has this condition I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Ahn!

Google
Amazing facility!! State of the art care & attention to detail. The ENT department; specifically Dr. Hamilton & his team, have been everything I could have asked for. They have been more than patient & understanding with my questions and concerns. I can’t say it enough 10/10 recommend!!

Yelp
A T M O S P H E R E While here, I learned that care is about the mind, body, and soul. Meaning, you should feel calm when you come in for care. The Mayo Clinic does just that. The environment is so cozy, calm, and beautiful, and the staff are so kind. There are Information desks everywhere! Those running the information desks are incredibly knowledgeable and willing to help you in any way they can! C A R E Q U A L I T Y I brought my dad in for Esophageal care and tests. We became one of the many who drive 6+ hours for the only kind of care that the team at the Mayo Clinic can provide. I cannot speak highly enough, only positive things, of the security, staff, nurses, and doctors here!! It does not matter what level of staff you talk to, each one is kind, patient, and genuinely cares about you and your health! This was a total shock to my dad and I, coming from small town central Illinois. How cool is it, to be treated how a patient should be treated - with kindness and respect?! 1,000/1,000 recommend the Mayo Clinic to anyone searching for answers, a second opinion, or professional health care. F O O D & S H O P S If you have a moment while here, check out two places that are will lead you to many other places: - The Subway - (no actual train cars) located down below. The elevators or stairs can take you down to the SL (Subway Level). Down here you will find many shops, elevators to restaurants up above, gifts shops, coffee shops, restaurants, and more! - The Skyway - This is a walkway system that connects you from the Mayo Building to the nearest shopping mall, restaurants, the local library, and throughout the city to many other buildings.

Yelp
I love all my doctors that I have at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN they are great and they have really helped me! This is about the billing department! They are terrible! You can tell them how to process your bills so they will get paid and they won't do it! They are uncooperative plus the Mayo Clinic won't let them call your insurance company to get it sorted out now how asinine is that? They are just hoping a lot of people won't bother with this and will just pay the bill. How many people are you doing this to? How are you doing this to people who are on Medicare only? I am wondering now! If you can't handle two insurance, can you handle one? I'm thinking you can't this is so dumb! Quit trying to bleed your patient's dry who has insurance!!! It's enough already!!!!

Yelp
I spend over 6 hours calling to schedule an appointment for a determologist was yelled at told i need additinal information and did that and got a referal and the required documents waited days that got a rejection for the reason unable to meet patient expecations. I called back to see other options or what do they think my next actions of care is and unable to speak to anyone and getting numerous phone numbers. So waited for no appointment no recommendation no explanation on next steps.

Yelp
Eye Cancer treatment. Best care to extend life. Get your eyes checked! If anything indicates a Nevis, run don't walk to Mayo

Teri P.

Yelp
I had to have surgery to reverse my stoma and repair a very large hernia. Dr.Cima was my surgeon and he was amazing!! He put my fears to rest with his knowledge and expertise. The staff has been amazing as well!! My nurse, Deli, has been so kind, gentle, and an all around fantastic nurse!! I have zero complaints!! Thank you Mayo Clinic and staff!!

Yelp
I have some incredibly rare pathogenic variants, including ones that put me at very high risk for cancer, and Mayo "doesn't have time" for me. All I asked for was diagnosis, I didn't even request treatment. I wasn't asking them to take a high-risk gamble. I wasn't looking for a transplant, a trial, or even experimental treatment. I was just asking for clarity -- for someone to look at the data, the symptoms, the patterns, and say, "Here's what's going on." That should have been a low-bar request for a place that calls itself a global leader in diagnostics. Diagnosis is supposed to be their bread and butter. But even that apparently isn't "safe enough" for them, because if they can't solve it easily, it might tarnish their image of being able to solve everything. What they're really saying is: We only want you if we can make you better in a way that looks impressive on paper. I'm absolutely done with Mayo and will never speak a good word about them again. This is the second time they've screwed me because they care more about looking good than helping people.

Yelp
Mayo Clinic is only interested in the bottom line. For proof of their arrogance & aggressive billing practices, read the damning MN Attorney General's Report that was published Mar 2025. I grew up in Rochester and now am managing my mom's care from afar. I believe they are also placing "scheduling holds" on patients with Medical Assistance. Why? Because her care is not going to make them as much money. Folks, do your homework before coming from afar here. There are almost always better options elsewhere. If you're local, pay attention and don't' hesitate to reach out to the Attorney General's Office if you feel you're getting the run around.

Yelp
Excellent staff they are very kind and they are very courteous. My wife and I have together had three surgeries there and they have all been very successful. Mayo Clinic has the best doctors in the world . if you have a visit planned there, they have everything down to a science to ensure a safe and a smooth operation.

Yelp
Beautiful campus. It can be a bit overwhelming but everything is clearly marked and many information desks to help guide you. Staff is very welcoming and accommodating. Discounts on close lodging. The waiting rooms are all spacious and have nice seating with computers and plug-ins for charging. Bathrooms are everywhere. Very clean. But the biggest highlight was light hearted and extremely kind staff. They sure know their stuff. And made our day the best it could be.

Yelp
Customer Service? Non-existent. Part of Mayo Clinic's corporate culture's philosophy of "We don't care: we don't have to." Mayo Clinic is only interested about in limiting their liability, not correcting problems. I've been double-billed by their wonderful AI billing system... and no amount of charts, screenshots, or explanations help. Their promises to look into a matter result in the same response: silence, doing nothing. Of course, they CAN'T consider that they might have a problem, that someone made a mistake in their accounting system. It's very clear to everyone outside of Mayo that there's a problem, but their solution is "pay the bill, THEN we'll discuss the problem." Same result as sending them an email, text message, or letter complete with charts, screenshots, etc. Absolutely nothing is done... except to re-bill the same error. They have silence on their side. If I don't pay the bill, their legal machinery is set up to extract the last drop of blood from their customers. And, as long as their customer service people have their "head up and locked" attitude, silence is their preferred method of dealing with problems. Talk with their customer service people and you soon realize that they're pausing only to tell you/repeat their side of the story, not to try to understand what a customer or client is trying to convey, supported by screenshots, photos, charts, explanations. Someone should tell them that this is the way customer-patients die. Their customer service people should be told that just because they use machines, they shouldn't think like one: apparently, they've never heard of bad programming, or "garbage in, garbage out."

Yelp
No one told me to write this review, but just concerned that some of them called me crazy when I had stomach pains a few years ago that I can't keep food down so I had to use feeding pump machine full time because no one wanted to listen to my issues with my stomach...It's from a few years ago....so annoyed because I am not crazy about it. I did not know how to write reviews before, but I wanted to say that I am not a crazy person. :(

Yelp
Had great care here for about 20 years then went back for my follow up and to discuss some new problems. My original excellent doctor had retired. New doctor, Dr Abdul, mocked me for complaining of pain that kept me up at night. Ordered a slew of tests, MRI, CT, etc. then ignored the results, which showed a fused SI joint. Dr Abdul asked a Mayo anesthesiologist to complete an SI joint injection. The anesthesiologist called the doc stating it was fused so that was impossible. Dr. Abdul still insisted anesthesiologist try it. Anesthesiologist was unable to inject the joint as she had told both of us earlier. The injection did not fix my problem. Dr. Abdul referred me to another Mayo Clinic doc who specializes in surgically fusing SI joints even though mine was already fused, and released me as a patient. I complained to Mayo two years later so another patient would not get discounted and mocked to by this doctor without even giving proper evaluation and care. Dr Abdul had his resident call and ask for an update on how the steroid injection worked two years ago! Laughable the amount of disdain he has for patients and their care! For a place that is supposed to specialize in complex unusual cases he was sure in a hurry to offload a patient who could not be immediately helped with a standard hip replacement at any major city hospital. Just wanted all the tests then ignored the results and suggested a useless procedure that his own fellow Mayo doctor told him would not work or be possible. Only to drop me as soon as I reported the result of the test. Then when I complained about the care or lack thereof, he threw his resident under the bus by having him call me for an update. The resident had not reviewed any part of my file, tests, treatments, or case history. When I asked why he was calling and informed the resident I had not been a Mayo patient for two years; he said well Dr Abdul got an email from someone asking about follow up on this case so he asked me to call and follow up with you. This further cemented my idea of this as no longer a place for complex care requiring cross functional teams and moving it firmly into the run up the bill and dismiss the patient as soon as they don't need expensive surgery immediately. Save your money and time and either go to the Cleveland clinic or any major city hospital, you'll get the same or better care there and if you get assigned Dr Abdul if you go to Mayo run, don't walk away, your wallet and medical care will be better off without him!

Rylee C.

Yelp
The food is so expensive that I can't even afford to eat anything like I remember it being like 2-4 dollars now it's like 7-10 dollars and all the people working are so rude but everything is clean I guess and no one likes tater totes they are so gross and so greasy like maybe something a little bit better like fries or ask the person if they want them than just one thing give them more variety

Yelp
Travelled to Rochester to get to the bottom of a "chest mass" found on a recent MRI. After arranging for the 2 week stay at Mayo I went in for the initial appointment and saw Oliver Tobin. During the initial appointment he asked what brought me in, and I told him about the chest mass. He immediately told me "it's nothing, similar to a vericose vein". This was a shocking relief for me and I was ecstatic that I wouldn't need surgery. After being told that I didn't have a tumor, all other appointments were cancelled, I had an appointment with a thoracic surgeon and an MRI for the next day that were cancelled. After the two weeks of bumming around Rochester with nothing to do, I went to the follow up appointment the day before I was to fly back to Anchorage. At this appointment I asked Oliver what I should say to my neurologist at home that misdiagnosed this chest mass, at this point he looked at the MRI for the first time and discovered that I did have a mass that was clearly visible on MRI and written about in the accompanying report. I went home the next day after wasting thousands of dollars on flights, rental car, and hotel. The fact that Oliver Tobin didn't even glance at any medical records I brought him seemed grossly negligent to me. I called Mayo clinic patient relations trying to get some reimbursement for the expenses for this utterly useless and frustrating trip and was denied anything because Oliver lied to them about the reason for my appointment in the first place. I wouldn't recommend the mayo clinic for anything at this point. Also, Oliver Tobin should not be trusted to see ANY patients period! With the kind of negligent, and utterly lazy performance he should be stripped of his license.

Yelp
I would hope the that Mayo Clinic would be at the forefront of new knowledge. however, they wrote this year about "Shaken Baby Syndrome" which is a now defunct term that has been proven to be based in junk science. I would suggest the Mayo Clinic get schooled regarding new court cases, overturned convictions and the statements made by the author of the original study about shaken baby syndrome. Even he does not believe in it. If you don't have neck trauma, then you don't have shaken baby syndrome. There can be bone diseases and virus inflammations that can cause all the hallmarks of "shaken baby syndrom". Maybe they should stat by listening to the podcast "Fractured".

Yelp
Horrible . Son very sick with Lyme and babesia . was told we couldnt even get a appointment because hed "already been treated for it" . Anyone with any basic medical knowledge knows Lyme and babesia are notoriously hard to treat and dont respond to meds in most people. So here we sit with a child getting sicker and sicker and Mayo refusing to even see him . Revolting. Yes he has insurance. Didnt even bother to tell is it was denied til I called back . Not surprising- people come from all over the world and get treated for free yet the child of a US veteran wont even be seen-SMH

Jessica J.

Yelp
Terrible! I went to the psychiatry and psychology department and the workers are overworked and stressed! It takes a long time to get through to them and when you do, it's like talking to a robot. Completely soul-less. When you meet a provider and they go over their next opening, it doesn't get scheduled. I've had them call me to schedule and appointment that SHOULD have been scheduled already.

Lee H.

Yelp
I have an atypical heart condition and so made an appointment with the Chief of Preventive Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic. They are supposed to be number 1 in cardiology in the US. I flew over 1,000 miles from my home in NJ to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I spent a whole day getting tests and the next day was to be my appointment with the specialist. Two hours before the appointment they pulled a bait and switch and suddenly my appointment was with a much lower level, younger, less experienced doctor. She was not able to answer my questions satisfactory. What a colossal waste of time and money, not to mention the stress Overall i spent $1200. I would not recommend the Mayo Clinic as they treated me in a very unprofessional manner. I got absolutely no new information from my visit. Addendum: Due to this bad review, I've been harassed by Mayo and now I'm getting threatening voice mails saying, "dude I'm gonna get you." I'm an elderly gentleman and this is very frightening.

Yelp
It's hard to put into words the size of this place. Amazing medical center with top notch doctors, nurses, and all the support staff. A collaborative effort from all involved.

Yelp
I have been a patient for almost two years at both the red wing Mn Mayo Clinic and also the Zumbrota Mn Mayo Clinic and in this almost two years I have been told one thing and seen my doctors do another I have messaged doctors and have waited days weeks or even longer for a reply and in some cases I have not received a reply at all. I want to be taken seriously and have my medical care taken seriously and to have my doctors find the root causes and then take action to fix them. I have asked nicely I have demanded I have advocated for myself my husband has advocated for me and still nothing. these doctors are not in the business of fixing problems they are in the business of elongating them and making patients like myself go through hurdles instead of taking direct action and following through. I and my family have had nothing but bad experiences at Mayo Clinic. it seems unless your a prince a king or the president of the United States your not going to get the high level of care you would expect and have been initially promise. it is sad that our medical system is broken and it leaves people like me and maybe even you with no results just more questions and more problems medically. Mayo Clinic is so large that they hide behind those three shields on their logo and if you wanted to talk to a director someone in charge it is impossible. sincerely Nicole a wife a mother a human being #imattermayo

Yelp
Mayo Clinic is the most overrated clinic on the planet. Come here for cardiac or cancer issues, yeah they'll help you there. But anything else, they are condescending, arrogant, puffed-up assholes that belittle you and charge you a fortune yet leave you worse off than when you came to them desperate for help. They refuse to give tests, ignore abnormal results when you are tested, deny referrals to specialists, put you off, and act like you are wasting their time. If you have autoimmune issues that destroy your life, go somewhere else!!! They will NOT help you!!! Being the supposed "best hospital in the world", they are unable to act outside of their arrogance. The absolute worst service we have ever received anywhere! Zero stars would be about right. So overrated!!!

Mitch H.

Yelp
Honestly I am SHOCKED by 3.2 rating!!! If I could the ENTIRE place would get 10 stars! I think I remember 1 staff member that didn't happen to be smiling at the time. SOOO friendly, SOOO helpful. If you even LOOK lost, need a wheelchair and driver, someone will give you directions, or even call someone to help you get to your destination. The campus is HUGE and intimidating, but very helpful, with good signage. Check-in by kiosk or staff member was so easy. Desk numbers basically coordinate with floor #. Once you get around a bit, it makes sense.

Kathy M.

Yelp
My husband was a previous patient of the neurosurgery department and a retired MD. We contacted them in October with a neurosurgical concern, sent the requested CT scan via express mail, and did not hear back from them for 4 months. It was an emergent situation, and we were able to get cared for by the team at Northwestern. Very disappointed.

Kenneth J.

Yelp
The Mayo clinic is like all other BS high paid organizations, they ALL SUCK! They are not interested in helping anyone, only those who are rich and can afford it. Tey do not accept HMO's and did not state that until they made me schedule an appointment and waste my time. It was a $5000 out of pocket expense to simply begin with them and no promise of when they funds would cap or if they could help. They should be ashamed or who they are and what they represent and for the middle and lower class you will never see them help you!!!

Regina D.

Yelp
The doctors are exceptional. I was unable to get a diagnosis in my home state of Texas. It was suggested to me to seek treatment at the Mayo Clinic. Its costly however it's worth the time and money. I just wish they had something like the MacDonald house for veterans. I definitely recommend the Mayo Clinic. I would support an agency similar to St Jude to help offset the costs for those traveling out of state.

Amber F.

Yelp
Was dismissed and not treated well my obgyn referred me, she ended up doing the biopsies herself and I have lichen sclerosis. Rochester Mayo clinic should be embarrassed

Yelp
Level 1 trauma center, but it took 18 days before the spouse could speak with an actual doctor. 18 days.

Yelp
I only have good things to say about Mayo. A family member was diagnosed by their local doctor with a condition that required surgery to correct. Several local doctors preform this surgery occasionally buy not routinely so we contacted Mayo where they have a specialist who focuses on this procedure and does over 300 a year. We transmitted the records and tests electronically, had phone consultations, scheduled a week long visit. All of the staff was professional, engaging, and seemed to honestly care about their job and the patients. The cross coordination, communication, and care are so different than typically health care.
google avatar

Greg O.

Yelp
Lots of focus on masks and preventing spreading - which I can appreciate because of travel and what others may be bringing into the clinic. Went to neurology, waiting area was clean and staff were professional. Only issue was wait time, called back almost 45 minutes past appt time - it's a doctor's office - it is what it is. Dr Whealy was incredibly informative, explored all avenues of issues presented, and thorough in assessment. Appreciated his listening and curiosity as he gathered information. Provided clear guidance and direction in achieving relief from symptoms and supported realistic options.

Yelp
Could not have been happier with my consultation visit. All staff very professional and very friendly. This is a very busy clinic and I was shocked to see the number of patients and staff. Mayo has a 5 star reputation and patients come from around the world. My doctor was on time and did a fantastic job of explaining what he was going to do. After the procedure we had a separate appointment to discuss his findings and the potential treatments available. I am very happy I took the 10 hour drive and spent the night across the street from the clinic. My care was great and I now have a greater understanding why this clinic is world renowned. This is definitely a go to place in my book if you need a second opinion.

Carl P.

Yelp
The staff in cardio where very rude and my wife has to have surgery again on her arm because the Mayo Clinic messed up. Not very happy

Jerry S.

Yelp
I can't believe all the bad reviews posted here. My experience was 100% positive. Epilepsy patient. I did wait a while to get an appointment. Every single person I dealt with was professional and right on top of their game. Appointments were on time, little waiting. Dr. St. Louis noticed things in previous tests my other doctors didn't. His nurse was great too. I have never dealt with a hospital as well organized as this one and I have been to many hospitals over the years in the Chicago area. I am a doctor myself and I was very impressed with everything at the Mayo Clinic. I will gladly return for annual check ups/treatment. I didn't hear any complaints from the people in my hotel, and everyone there was a patient at Mayo. Loved Rochester as well. Great restaurant scene.

Deb Z.

Yelp
Was gaslighted by ortho who even said l was interrupting him s d refused to look at outside record or to let me give mri disc to front desk to scan in, They missed a critical finding, when you do not listen to patients especially who are physicians GOD help your reviews. I am sure they will pay to have it removed.

Yelp
Mayo was amazing in 2015 when I was a patient. Absolutely amazing. They utilized a "Team Approach", caring, efficient with immediate follow-up care that was of high quickly & scheduled in all areas needed to solve the medical issues. Now? The care is disjointed, denied. Timeliness, quality of care & follow-up have gone out the window. Profits, Profits, Profits is what rules the care at Mayo Clinics now. I know several staff at Mayo who are our neighbors. Hoards of wonderful staff have left to work elsewhere. Their employee benefits packages were cut & good employees are not treated like the assets they are to a poorly managed profit-driven BUSINESS. The Mission of helping patients with their individual needs has gone out the window. There are good medical personnel but good luck trying to see them or even getting an appointment. If you're wealthy, you can probably get in quickly, efficiently & be able to obtain the best access to the best doctors. Otherwise, prepare yourself for denial or disjointed, rushed, cookie-cutter care with a doctor who is training in a bunch of new interns who need to replace all the employees who are leaving or have left. Yelp
Frightening experience at MAYO RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT. A Radiology Department must have competent skilled technicians or you could end up with unnecessary surgery. Read my attached review.

Allyson V.

Yelp
When the admissions staff says "care team" they should reconsider their language. They said we would have a care team but my husband has seen only a junior neurologist. He went to Mayo for a diagnosis a prognosis and a treatment plan. None of his admissions application requests have been addressed. We traveled over 1000 miles and stayed in a hotel 7 days and six nights. Perhaps they will tell us where we can actually get help and pay for our flight and hotel stay.

Yelp
Voted #1 for good reason. Mayo Dr's and staff are world class. I live in Montana and travel to Mayo multiple times per year for cancer treatment and follow ups. Aside from "World Class" medical care; the clinic and hospital campus is beautiful and very well taken care of. They obviously focus on the details. Mayo is quite remarkable

Carleen G.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! I would give 10 stars if I could! Dr. Dalliah Black far exceeded my expectations of a surgeon. She was rubbing my cheek as I was waiting for my sedation with anesthesia to set in. I had NO pain with her pain block. She reached out to me on holidays and even asked that my local radiation oncologist reach out to her during her vacation. She is completely selfless and is such a blessing. Anyone who has the opportunity to have her on their healthcare team is very fortunate and blessed. My surgery was perfect. The entire Mayo team was amazing. My family and I have complete confidence in their care. Thank you for restoring my health. God's work, your hands.

Cheryl K.

Yelp
They are all about test , then don't even follow up with you on the results . It takes months to get appointment with your primary! They always have some lame excuse for their poor communication. How they are rated so highly is a mystery. They have really become about greed over patients need.

Mr. K.

Yelp
Best place to get prostate surgery, check out how happy the patient is! So glad cancer caught on time and that results were better than expected! Everyone from surgeon to post surgery therapist were awesome.

Jay R.

Yelp
Rushed me into surgeries based off of a 2 degree misalignment and now over 2 years later worse than ever decide to neglect me and write off any test results that could provide to answers and then block me from seeing other providers then send me a letter about disrespect. Moved across the state to have my quality of life ruined and now ignored. This place is all talk and they don't care about you nor are they well educated on anything other than old science and cutting people open. Educate yourself and your doctors mayoclinic, I shouldn't be going into appointments with all the information from peer reviewed medical journals and still being written off. This is why bad things happen to people because of places like this that treat peoples life as a game and money. And don't even think about advocating for yourself otherwise you're a problem patient and get ignored more, just keep ur mouth shut and do what they say and the saddest part is that leaving this review will probably get me kicked out instead of them actually reflecting on this review. Which proves my whole point. Have a nice day everyone

Yelp
Where do I start?? I was completely floored by this whole experience. Mayo in itself is overwhelmingly beautiful, well organized and the employees are extremely helpful and friendly. The executive health department is like a well-oiled machine. I have been seeing doctors my whole life on my various issues and I received answers here...finally. These doctors are like no doctors I've ever worked with. I don't know Mayo's recruiting or screening process, but it is flawless. The food and drinks were free throughout the day for patients in the executive health area, which is great when you have back to back appts all day! I was expecting this to be a one and done experience, but now I am planning on returning every year.

Yelp
I've been to several renowned 'healthcare meccas' in the USA. I must say that the Mayo exemplifies the spirit of kindness and respect from security , administration, physicians and other healthcare providers . It's a culture of caring . The staff all dress professionally and go out of their way in passing you esp if you look lost to make sure you get to the place where you're supposed to be. I'm not used to this kind of caring. It's overwhelming esp after experiences at the Cleveland Clinic and Baylor hospital systems in Houston where sometimes staff won't even look at you and didn't want to be bothered where they sat looking at magazine ads or didn't want to be bothered as you stand in line as staff at the desk talked during that time about their gathering over the weekend while on the clock ; staff sometimes got snippy and talked down at you. To be fair that was my experience many years ago, and maybe that culture has changed to be competitive with Mayo . My 2024 first time experience with Mayo is 100% professional with a lot of HEART . They know people come from far away seeking the best care possible .

Yelp
It's been ten years since I was here. To this day, I can't stop talking about this place. I have so much to say, but don't have the time to outline how epic this system is. I just wanted to make sure I gave it 5 stars.

Yelp
Horrible experience wife has chest pain didn't do any thing just gave her something for the pain then back to waiting room spent 9 hours there to get no information. The face they say they care is completely bullshit one star as there no zero or negative 5

Yelp
The clinic might be great. I'll never know because they rejected me via form email that told me to "keep perusing local options" after making me jump through many hoops and having me sign up for the patient portal which I now have no use for. Also the person on the phone kept interrupting me and flatly saying "I need something that I can put in as a code". Both the phone calls I had were unsympathetic and frankly a waste. I'd bet money no actual person looked at my paperwork. Just a machine that scanned for keywords. It gets worse. My parents got in easy breezy for Executive Physicals which are extensive but only available to executives and their spouses. Which makes zero sense. (Hint: the answer is elitism)

Yelp
If I could give zero stars! My poor son, with a terrible insect bite, got a full-blown parasitic infestation. Dr. Shane Fuentes and Vargas were quacks! Surly, too! Did NOTHING, barely examined him and then today the Mayo ER sent a fax to the doctor saying...sorry we don't handle parasites here. Just CYA by them. Horrible experience. This is supposed to be one of the best hospitals in America. You could fool us!

Yelp
They don't answer questions or call you back even with major meds questions. Can't get a hold of anyone! Worse care ever.
