We ordered this cake and cupcakes for our wedding. Everything was fantastic: customer service, pricing, pick-up, and taste! We had many compliments and would definitely recommend McArthur’s for your special occasion.

Google
We have been getting our family birthday cakes from McArthurs for years and they are so wonderful. However, this year we had to switch to the online order platform and it’s so difficult to navigate (not just for the older patrons as mentioned earlier). It doesn’t look like there’s an option for a standard birthday cake with chocolate icing. We picked up our order and the cake was wrong. While the cafe manager did make the situation right, it was disappointing and could have been avoided. Please consider reopening phone lines for orders or creating a more simplistic order process online that mimics more closely how someone would order a birthday cake over the phone. Providing over 400+ niche decorating options is far less helpful than having the ability to pick your frosting.

Google
I just love their cakes and so does everyone who tries them out. The online ordering process is so simple and user friendly and they are very reasonable in price.

I hadn't been to this bakery in a long time, as it's out in the county. This was our go-to bakery for birthday cakes by us and all our friends. The cake was vanilla with Strawberry & Custard filling with a whipped cream icing that everyone loved. Since I was out that way, I decided to stop in as I had a sweet tooth today. The staff was warm and welcoming when u walked in, along with asking if they could help me. I started browsing the cases and found numerous new items that were never on my radar. Boy, oh boy, was I in heaven, everything looked so darn delicious 😋 😍 I chose 2 strawberries with lemon bread pudding cakes. Now, the next one, I'm not going to be able to explain by name. It has chocolate chips, and I think they are gooey butter cakes. Now the last one is the same. I don't know the name, but its chocolate cake turned upside down and then drizzled with chocolate. Once I taste them, I will let you know for sure. My favorite once spied it was the cherry stolen. It's one of the best-looking ones I've seen anywhere in years. So, of course, I had to have it as well. More to come once I've tasted these delicious looking baked goods. If you've never tried this bakery, stop in and support this locally-owned business that's been catering to the community since 1956! Did I mention there is a sandwich shop & ice cream parlor in there too. If you can't satisfy your appetite here, I'm not sure if my reviews can help you out, as I won't post unless I feel it's a fabulous spot for all to try. Delicious, tasty, satisfying place to get food, sweets, and yes, ice cream, wow!

Google
McArthur's Bakery was our wedding cake vendor. Not only are their flavors mouth watering, but their designs are timeless and beautiful. We stuck with the traditional white wedding cake flavor and us (and our guests) loved it. We opted for a two tier wedding cake with some sheet cakes to be cut in the back - this is definitely the way to go. We plan to have them recreate a smaller version of our cake on our 1 year anniversary. We also opted to have a grooms cake. He chose one of their star wars prints on a marble cake - also delicious. I had received a few quotes from other bakeries on cakes but McArthur's had the most reasonable pricing for our moderate budget while still tasting like heaven.

Google
I called the week of to order a custom smash cake for my baby’s first birthday party when my other dessert plan fell through. The lady I spoke with to take my order was so friendly and helpful! I got a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and paid a bit extra for the baker to design their own creation (rodeo theme). Super easy pick up the morning of the party. Turned out adorable! Baby LOVED it and the photos are my favorite.

Google
Wonderful to find that McArthur’s bakery has my favorite cake: an amoretto cake with raspberry filling. Yum! I was able to pick up one large slice that I took home and have been sharing with my husband. I also got a couple donuts. The staff person was very helpful. She even looked up a specific ingredient on the ice cream that I have a food sensitivity to. Thank you!

Google
I picked up a one layer carrot cake for Mother’s Day. After cutting into it to serve it plan to it was has icing. They obviously skimp on the cake mix and make it bigger and more dramatic by laying heavy with the cheaper icing. I won’t be going back.

Yelp
I was absolutely elated with the dessert trays ordered for my Son's wedding rehearsal dinner. The large assorted dessert trays were gorgeous and filled with so many delicious options. And the gooey butter cake and brownie trays were just as amazing. There were guests starting with the desserts before dinner and I received so many compliments on them so I will pass that on to McArthur's here! This was my first experience with McArthur's but it will not be my last. The bakery was clean, bright, smelled amazing and had some beautiful desserts. I'm not even a sweets person but I was eyeing the display case when picking up my trays. Online ordering was a breeze and super convenient. Thank you, McArthur's!! I will be back.

Yelp
We stopped in to grab some to go lunch after church. Line was long, but moved fairly quickly. Lots of people in the back working, but only 1 cashier. Restaurant was busy, but seemed to be pretty clean and organized. They have Halloween/fall decorations up right now which is nice. We ordered some sandwiches and one of the chicken bacon ranch potatoes. And stepped off to the side to wait for our name. The drinks are soup in an odd way, as you can get refills of anything yourself, except for the lemonade, which is turned around to the counter side. For $4, I'd think they relax about too many lemonade refills per customer. After about 10 minutes, we heard our name get called from the register area, not the to-go pick up area, which was a little confusing. We had to ask the people waiting in line to order to move over so we could pick up our food. Everything tasted fine, and our total for 4 people was around $50. Similar quality to Panera, but I like the options here better.

Yelp
We stopped in for a sweet treat today. We tried the strawberry cream cheese croissant, lemon blueberry tart and a chocolate chip cannoli. The staff were very friendly and happily assisted us in picking out what we wanted to try. The dining room is super cute and everything was nice and clean. We'll definitely be back. It's a great place to come and sit down with your friends or family and treat yourself.

Yelp
As always, our breakfasts were excellent! Those roasted potatoes could be a meal by themselves! Everything was hot and fresh. You order at the counter, and a server brings to your table. Their coffee is very good, rich, not bitter. They're always friendly and efficient. The decor is very fresh and, and the restaurant is always clean and well maintained. Don't forget the tip jar on the counter!! Breakfast and lunch, 7am-2pm.

Yelp
McArthur's will ALWAYS have a place in my heart. My grandma used to bring donuts from their shop when I was growing up. Great memories and great pastries! Friendly staff and a nice little shop!

Yelp
Unfortunately, I'll never go to McArthur's again. Having grown up in South County, I was so excited to learn that they delivered to St. Charles, where I live now, so I was thrilled to use them again for a bridal shower I was throwing. I ordered the cake months in advance, toward the end of July 2024, for an October party. The young person who took my intake seemed a little unsure about what she was doing, and that should have been my first tip off. I explained what I wanted (see first photo, handwritten notes - spooky / elegant / fall theme for bridal shower, shades of purprle, add flowers, "Congratulations Dani"). The order person and I discussed the theme and looked up some photos on Pinterest while I was there. I mentioned that the decorators could call me if needed for clarification, because I really wasn't confident in the order person's abilities. I then called a few days prior to delivery to confirm the details and to make it clear, again, that this was for a bridal shower. The cake was delivered on time by a very nice gentleman. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box and saw a literal HAUNTED HOUSE. This is a Halloween cake, not even close to a bridal shower cake. It looks nice, but again, absolutely NOT APPROPRIATE for a bridal shower. As you can see on the second photo (delivery invoice), it was never noted anywhere that there should be flowers, and "fall theme" was also omitted. Even still, I'm at a loss how we got a haunted house from "spooky, elegant, purple" bridal shower theme. I called and spoke with a nice woman who advised that she or the manager would call me back. Holly the manager called me back, but was clearly already upset. She kept interrupting me, and told me that if I could bring the cake in in the next 35-40 minutes, they could "add some flowers". Well, again, I live in St. Charles and it was going to be unlikely that I would make that time frame. Then Holly explained to me how this was my fault, because I didn't provide any pictures, the invitation, or guidance. I told her that the girl I placed the order with never suggested that I bring in an invitation, and that she didn't really seem to think that this was going to be a problem. It just totally shocked me how Holly seemed to want to pass the buck. Like, of course I didn't know what to put on the cake. I'm not a cake decorator. That's why I paid over $100 to go to the professionals. By this point, my mild amusement had shifted to anger, just based on Holly's "not our fault" reaction. I told her that bringing the cake it at this point wasn't going to be good enough, and that I wanted a replacement. She put me on hold, and then came back a few minutes later and said that they couldn't get me a new cake, but they'd refund my purchase. Well, okay, but I still don't have an appropriate cake. When I asked again about bringing the cake in to have flowers added like she had said, Holly advised that this was no longer on the table. I told her that I was going to come bring the cake in because that's what she told me I could do, and then she said I was threatening her, hung up on me, and then the store refused to answer the phone when I called back. I then called the Kirkwood store and spoke with Bree, who was much more pleasant. She said she'd do some investigating and someone would call me back. Holly then called me back again, and was less rude but still interrupted me frequently. She confirmed that I'd still be getting a refund, and said I could bring the cake back in and "the general manager who is not a decorator" could add some pre-made flowers to it in the morning, but then I'd have to drive back in to get it before the shower. At this point, I don't know if the time and the gas would be worth this half-measure. McArthur's used to be where everyone in South County got their cakes. I don't know what's happened to them but I'm so unbelieveably disappointed in both their product and their service. I can't wait to see the bride's face tomorrow when she gazes at her beautiful HAUNTED HOUSE cake.

Yelp
Food: 2 Stars Service: 4 Stars A cool concept, housing a cafe, bakery, and ice cream parlor all under one roof. Their cakes are moist and decadent and no one can pull off their signature buttercream frosting. But what turned me off wasn't their sweet baked goods, but the menu items from their cafe. Portions are big, but flavors are bland and often overcooked. I couldn't taste any of the chives in their cheddar chive biscuit, and their potatoes were dry, charred, and flavorless. I wish their fried chicken had more seasoning in their batter. It was the most tasteless piece of fried chicken I've ever had. Their short rib hash, for the most part, was their saving grace. (as long as you removed the burnt potatoes). The folks behind the counter were polite, but they had forgotten my hot latte. Halfway through our meal, I asked them about it and they brought me an iced one. I really like McArthur's, and hope they're able to turn things around in their cafe. As it stands, it's a bust for me.

Yelp
A wonderful local boutique bakery. It has ice cream, donuts, a small cafe and cakes. And oh, the cakes! What a selection! They even had a slice of amaretto cake with raspberry filling that I could take home! The counter staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. She saw me looking at the cake and asked me what my favorite was. I told her, and she said that she thought there was some in the freezer. She disappeared and a short time latter had two slices of amaretto cake with raspberry filling! She was also helpful to me in finding the particular sweetener in their ice creams. Located in a strip mall, it is clean and accessible.

Yelp
Got a cake and a pie for my friend's birthday, and they were delicious! Everyone kept asking where they were from. I have been a customer since getting donuts as a child... glad to see a business stay consistent over the years!
google avatar

Ashlyn P.

Yelp
I contacted them last minute for an order after I found out my friend had a miscarriage. They were so sweet and quick to reply to my email. They went above and beyond to help me and I could not be more appreciative for their wonderful service and delicious baked goods.

Yelp
Went here for a sweet treat while running errands and was honestly underwhelmed. There wasn't a huge selection of desserts to pick from and it was dead. I got this cake and it just didn't do it for me. For the price of the cake, I expected better. I only ate a few bites and threw it away.

Mildred C.

Yelp
I ordered breakfast from here for the first time this morning and it was so delicious. I had a veggie omelet, potatoes and wheat berry toast. The potatoes were my favorite!

Yelp
Speciallty cheesecakes with rich, creamy cake base, laden with multiple fresh fruit slices !! Across from Mehlville High School. Have some sandwiches too, I believe. I like it. Sort of "gourmet-ish" fare

Sharon T.

Yelp
Great cakes that you order. Fabulous baked goods. Have not tried sandwiches served in bakery.
google avatar

Jenna F.

Yelp
The place is clean updated and open. Donut and pastry selection not as big as I had hoped. A good macaroon selection. A nice shake and ice cream bar. Coffee is just coffee or latte. They have cakes ready to go that is nice. There is an all day brunch menu and kids menu pricing mostly à la cart style.

Yelp
I came here to have a coffee and use their wifi to work on my license credits. It's so cute inside and the staff were inviting. They do have wifi you can use, which is always nice. The lady recommended a custard puff since they were done serving food at 2 pm. I have a sweet tooth, so I was happy with her suggestion. The coffee was delicious, but i wish it was a bigger amount. I enjoyed the custard puff. However, I will order something else next time. It was served cold. The custard inside is perfect, but the outer shell tasted off, like the dough was tough. The hard chocolate shell was good.

Yelp
What in the world is going on? I grew up as a little girl thinking I'd get my wedding cake here. I would see brides-to-be having consultations and looking at wedding cake displays in the side room. This is terribly sad. I ordered a wedding cake tasting box, and was prepared to pick it up and leave but I had no idea what an ordeal it would be to get it. I had to wait outside for a few minutes is 96 degree heat with my elderly mother after ringing a video doorbell and being met with locked doors and covered windows. Then another customer came up and was confused and when they called the phone number there was no answer. It was extremely odd and dystopian and borderline felt sketchy and dangerous waiting by the parking lot and not at all what I grew up with. I grew up coming to this bakery with kind workers greeting us and a beautiful bakery interior with open doors and seating inside. I used to get donuts and coffee with my grandparents, birthday cakes with my family, and their buttercream icing filled chocolate donuts were my favorite in my early 20s. It started going downhill during or after Covid when donuts got removed off the menu. I still had great memories and loyalty here though but that all changed today. This was awful and this bakery is not even a resemblance of what it used to be. So heart breaking I definitely won't be getting my wedding cake here and my family will probably never return again after what we experienced today.

Charles E.

Yelp
Although they aren't open as early as they used to be it's still my go to spot when in the area that time of the day

Yelp
Tried the avocado toast for breakfast!! Delicious!!! Can't wait to go back and try other items!!!

Yelp
I want to be clear first. I was a PROSPECTIVE customer. Not a customer. This review is about the service I tried to receive. I can't speak to the food. I needed two cakes delivered. I work like anyone else so asked if they could arrive any time in the afternoon. I was told, their window is 7am - 5pm. I can get that, but asked if mine could maybe even just go at the tail end of their orders. No flexibility. I asked if they left it at my house, how long would I have to get there before the cakes are ruined. They said they wouldn't leave them there even as I stated I was willing to run the risk because I really wanted the cakes. I could even had Ubered home the moment I knew the cakes were there. No luck. And the woman on the phone kept cutting me off, didn't want to work with me, and made no effort to even sound like it was unfortunate that she couldn't help me. Just what she can't and won't do. Let me be clear. This is a free service. So I didn't expect too much in the way of excellence. But I didn't expect zero customer service at all. Just "We have a window of longer than a work day, it can come anywhere in that window, and you better be effing home because we won't leave it". Even HVAC people give you a narrower estimate. Don't know how good they are and I won't because they won't be getting my business.

Adam D.

Yelp
Well, The Scoop ice cream bar is lame. Pre packaged waffle cones? Hot fudge on the menu but don't have it? Vs the cost? You'd have a better experience buying stuff at the grocery store and make it at home. Way bother. What the heck happened to MacArthurs???

Cody B.

Yelp
We went for breakfast and were not impressed. They try to do too much but I'm more of a Waffle House guy.
google avatar

Yelp
Called in a cake order for curbside pick up and everything went smoothly! Customer service was great, I can never think of the name of the cake. You can place your order online but I just called it in! They offer free delivery if your order is over $35! You can also pick up in store, they have social distancing policy and limit the amount of customers inside. Now onto the star of the show...Strawberry Delight cake! Annnd that's just what it is...A Strawberry delight! The cake was tasty, moist and sweet. The strawberry filling was sweet but not too sweet, not too thick either, a nice ratio of cake to filling to the fluffiest whipped cream frosting on the outside all under a layer of white chocolate shavings! Yep! It was that good! I ordered the 9" but man after the first slice I was like DANG I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE BIG ONE! Ooh well there will be another occasion and I will get the large, which will be too much but as I write this....I so wish I had another slice! Ooh yeah, great gooey butter danish! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I came to McArthurs almost every week as a kid for years! The service was always great, friendly faces and warm smiles greeting you, and the food was always perfect! I loved how it was set up all the colors and decorations, very dark earthy tones but they felt homey. I haven't been back in a while due to moving to a different city but I drive by every once in a while and think about how excited I got to go!

Kelli R.

Yelp
We had a Christmas Yule log cake last year and It was truly amazing!!! Order it. Seriously. It's amazing at the holiday. We forgot to leave a review and this cake alone is worth it. I do wish they had more pastries available like they used to. For example cut pieces of cakes or just specialty desserts but that changes nothing about my experience.
google avatar

Shannon B.

Yelp
Ordered from the new cafe part, so good!! Biscuits and gravy and the breakfast potatoes. Also got an iced mocha, which was great! The set up inside is cute. And all of the employees were so nice. Will definitely be back soon.

Marissa K.

Yelp
McArthur's has been my go to bakery now for the past 10 years. Between birthdays, 1st Communions, and graduation, we have been extremely happy with their cakes. Not only are their cakes delicious, their customer service is one of a kind. Today was a prime example of what great service they provide. The cake I ordered online for Easter, somehow didn't make it thru their ordering system. I called and Sonja took care of me right away. She apologized profusely and advised that they would be able to give me a cake today. It was still the flavor I wanted and the same size that I needed. She advised they would refund me (which I told them they didn't need to do) and 20 minutes later, they arrived at my house (in West County) with the cake and additional goodies for the family! Thank you McArthur's bakery for coming thru during the Easter weekend and this Covid-19 crisis. Our family will always be loyal customers.
google avatar

Susha M.

Yelp
Sadly, a few years ago, they removed doughnuts from their menu. I understand their reasoning but when I walked in there today, their normally busy shop only had two customers. It's a shame they felt this change was necessary.
google avatar

Donna W.

Yelp
First of all i was ignored by at. Least 4 people before a young lady in the back came out to assist me. The problem for me came as I was the second person that should of been waited on but I was the last. I haven't been on South County in a while and really forgot the racial overtones that exists in those areas. It saddens me. I never said a word to anyone just took pictures and made a point to observe everyone and what they were doing. I wanted to give them a chance not to be this way but unfortunately it is the case. On top of that the gooey butter cake doesn't hold a candle to the Gooey Butter at Companion so much better in taste and texture. Imma a fat girl and relish carbs especially baked goods and after two bites it sits on my desk. Im sure I'll toss it because it's just not good. So no reason to go back to this store. Customer service is horrible and so is the Gooey Butter.
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
My daughter decided to go full on Saint Louis and have Gooey Butter cake for her reception. She ordered 2 full sheet pans of the amazing goodness. She got one traditional and one chocolate chip. We cut them into large squares and wrapped them individually in cute dessert boxes and they were an absolute hit with the wedding guests. I would say that most agreed that there is nothing that beats the traditional GBC flavor, perhaps it's sweet enough and the chocolate chocolate chip with drizzle, was super sweet. Not at all a bad thing, just sweeter than the traditional.
google avatar

Ryley M.

Yelp
My grandmother, who is diabetic, loves their sugar free goods. You can't ask for more than a happy grandma.
google avatar

Zack G.

Yelp
Basic chain bakery with a lot of pastries on display and a few food items to order. Some generic Panera-Ask seating inside. Traditional bakery goods. Some free samples. I ordered a basic breakfast sandwich and coffee which were not great. Coffee had grounds in it breakfast sandwich was very greasy
google avatar

Michele C.

Yelp
This will be the first time I have ever complained, but customer service is quite horrible. Their " filled cupcakes aren't really filled, it's just a small squirt of icing from the top". Hostess cupcakes have more filling and at $25 5 inch cake or more for 12 cupcakes don't bother. So disappointed it used to be the best
google avatar

Jacqueline P.

Yelp
My family's been coming to this bakery for over twenty years. Always get delicious and beautiful birthday cakes for the family. I live in IL. I also love they now have delivery ( up to 25 miles) due to the pandemic. It's a wonderful service. My children are now grown and they now shops at McArthur's for their cakes.

Lillie P.

Yelp
The treats at this amazing cafe are phenomenal! All of the cakes, cookies, pies, danish's and everything else are perfect! The service is amazing, all of the workers are extremely nice and helpful! The bakery gives off a very calm and welcoming ambiance. I would %1000 recommend this amazing bakery!!

Yelp
This has been my go to spot. We haven't been able to come here as often as we used to since we moved. When we started planning the wedding in lighting fast time obviously they were my first choice and first on the list to schedule a consultation. We had the consultation for a wedding cake scheduled. Late January to early February schedule the first evening or weekend appointment we could get out hands on. Now comes the day. I call to confirm the time. The voice over the phone confirms my time. I ask her if there was an appointment before us if we could come earlier. No . So I explain to her we have a hard stop at 5:50 to get to downtown for another event. She explains shouldn't be an issue. We leave with plenty of time to get early... so we thought. We do live 45 mins(without traffic) away. Traffic is terrible and we are late. We get a call 8 mins after our appointment time. I see it's them on the cashier id- I explain yes, sorry, traffic, but we are 2 minutes out. The voice on the other end tells me that sorry we have to reschedule. (Let's think about this. I've made it clear early that day that I know I'm going to be rushed and have to leave earlier anyway. So I wouldn't even be keeping them later than they already intended. So the argument b of we want to go home on time is not relevant.) After hearing the curt unsympathetic voice having told her simply we won't be rescheduling. That I wasn't going to make the trip again she said sorry then have a great day. By the time I hang up I'm on the other side of an intersection looking at the place. I did go . Since the open sign was bright and on. I did go in and explain to the women not behind the counter in the empty store that your need to reschedule was absurd. Mainly because the time it took you to hang up I was there. Had you not been a hurry to dismiss me over the phone and gotten the full story then this would have been avoided. I was told I was being rude and that I was the who yelled at her over the phone (mind you my fiance continued to the baskery after I hung up because he was completely unaware there was a major issue- so it goes to show you how much I was "yelling") so I got "you can leave" and left I did. We basically were showing up to pick out the cake.... order and go. We have been there plenty over the years but wanted somewhat of the "show" since it was an investment and a big day in our lives. Instead we sat in an hour of traffic for naught. Best cream horns ... sad I have to start my cake buying process all over.

Yelp
My first time here and maybe the same for my wife despite her awareness. I know we attempted to visit on a previous occasion but they were closed. You're wow'd when you walk in the door and see the illuminated cases of baked goods flooding your brain with thoughts of all the treats you should buy. We asked a friend where to purchase an Ooey Gooey Butter Cake and were lead to McArthur's given our desire to take one to family in the Chicago area. My wife saw the macaroons and was in heaven with the options. She went for the combo bag since it was cheaper and offered a variety. She asked the clerk to pick his favorite bag which turned out to be one with a passion fruit flavored macaroon...didn't disappoint. I got a double chocolate brownie although I didn't think it was anything special and have had better. A wonderful place with plenty of options.

Denise R.

Yelp
Cake was good, but nothing overly special. We'll try another bakery in the future to order a cake. We've ordered cakes elsewhere that were better and less expensive.

Karen B.

Yelp
For my husband 75th Birthday McArthurs once again exceeded my expectations when most company's are not even meeting my expectations these days. Our cake was stole the James Bond Party event and made me cry. We had a chocolate cake with mousse filling and the second layer was yellow cake with cherry filling. Thank you McArthurs for a job well done!

Debbie C.

Yelp
What happened to McArthur's Bakery!?! It seems like they are phasing out of business. It's the week before Christmas and they hardly have anything. Shocking. No assortments of Christmas cookies or cakes. No cheesecakes. Everything has to be pre-ordered. Then the poor things can't open till 9am. Will go to Federhoffers Bakery on Gravois from now on. It's out of the way for me but, they're still normal.

Yelp
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. We live in St Charles MO. So about 25 miles from McArthurs's. We've seen their tv ads for years and always wanted to go. Today, being my best friend's birthday I thought "what a great day to go". Well, that was the thought. Walking in there were no numbers to pull for place in line so we headed for the display case. One employee was busy with a couple in picking out the design for a celebration cake of some sort. We were never acknowledged. We never even received eye contact from anyone working there. Unfortunately we left. I'm so sorry that what seems to be an institution in St Louis can't staff adequately for Monday Morning traffic.

Yelp
I can only be speaking about wedding cakes. You have to make appointment for the tasting. They will bring out a whole tray of 8 types of cakes and 5 types of filling. I thought that cake was not very good (out of the box) and the filling was okay. In general I did not like the actual taste of the cake but I did like their designs. We would have 110 people at the wedding and I thought the cake price was too much, there are cheaper and better wedding cakes out there! P.S. I do love European style cakes, McArthur's is more of American style.

Yelp
my daughter ordered a cake to be delivered on Saturday in time for Mother's Day as she was out of town . She Even called to confirm . No cake . No explanation . They won't pick up their phone. A disastrous way to run a business . We are done with mcarthers bakery.

Yelp
Thank you so much for making my boyfriend's birthday cake. He is an avid Magic The Gathering player and I went to many bakeries and everyone turned me down. I was very happy with the service here and the attention to detail on the outside of the cake to look precisely like the card and the amazing taste of the cake itself.

Yelp
We got two pieces of gooey butter cake to go, in order to experience an iconic St. Louis dessert. I brought one home to my mom, a native of the city. Everyone who tasted it enjoyed it; the cake was dense, very sweet and chewy, and heavy! Our only complaint was that there was a faint hint/taste of lemon, which wasn't unpleasant, but wasn't really supposed to be there in a plain slice. Still, not a bad way to round out a brief jaunt to St. Louis!

Yelp
My family has always gotten my birthday cakes from McArthur's. There cakes are wonderful, whether you get them plain or with a delicious filling they are a must try, and priced reasonably. But and this is the most important part you have to the try the Creme Horns they are amazing. These aren't the teeny tiny horns you can get at Schnucks or other local grocery stores. These babies are HUGE, and soft, and the creme is omg. I could live without the sprinkles on the top, but other then that they are fantastic.

Yelp
Love this place. As a regular supporter of local businesses and a repeat customer of this business I can't say enough good things about it. Their cakes are perfect.

Yelp
I finally got to try the famous McArthur's! There were so many sweet choices that I had to ask a lot of questions and do a lot of thing before I made the big decision. But I finally decided on a slice of gooey butter cake, a custard puff and two mini mousse cups. Apparently they don't always have gooey butter cake for sale by the slice, it's usually only sold as a whole. But they happened to have one and were more than happy to sell it to me! Their version of this STL treat is quite different from every other kind I've had. Most times, in my experience, the bottom layer of the gooey butter is a consistency that lives somewhere between a yellow cake and a blondie. But this was neither. This cake had a similar consistency to Mardi Gras King Cake. I'd say that it was a tasty treat and fun to try, but something I would go back for, simply because I've come to expect something different when it comes to gooey butter cake. The custard puff was huge and had a pretty thick layer of chocolate completely covering the top. The pastry had a nice balance of light and fluffy, but still sturdy enough to contain the custard. The custard was fine - it reminded me of most fillings I've had. It was very similar to the puddings that you make from the Jello boxes at the store. However, all these elements were quite enjoyable and I really savored every bite! There were two different flavors of mousse and the woman at the counter wasn't 100% certain what each was, so she gave me both and only charged me for one. One of them was in a coffee cup made out of chocolate and had a chocolate-covered espresso bean on top. It turned out to be mocha flavored mousse (go figure). I sometimes get nervous about the coffee flavor in things like this being too strong, but this was mild and very nice. The other was a taller, skinner chocolate cup and had a lighter colored mousse which turned out to be caramel. I liked this one even more! (It had a little bit more flavor and sweetness.) The mousse itself wasn't super dense, it was definitely closer to a whipped cream consistency, which I loved! McArthur's was definitely a fun place to check out!

Yelp
Extremely rude treatment from the manager at the Lemay Ferry location. An employee was checking in back to see if they had an item I wanted to purchase for a party. When I tried to buy things already in stock from the bakery counter the manager refused to help me because there were "other people to help". Even though she agreed I was there first and the people walked in after I approached her for assistance, she refused to help me and was very rude and loud about it. I left without making a purchase and after decades of being a customer will spend my money elsewhere. A little kindness goes a long way and retains customers.
