McCool's Pub & Grill

A group of us usually go there Friday night and we are pretty well taken care of. Sarah, our usual server, is amazing/the absolute best, and the food ain't half bad either. I've had the Patty Melt, Burgers, Fried Shrimp, and a few other things. They have a decent menu, with a nice variety, to go along with a small sports bar atmosphere, and a game room. We make it a regular Friday spot.

Don't know what happened to the food since the new owner took over but...our meals were terrible. Worst cod I've had in years. Took it home and gave it to my chickens. Seriously - remove the "Irish" because having a Guinness sign and a tap doesn't make you Irish without something decent on the menu. Bring back the old menu or update this one. Beyond meeting a friend for a drink, we won't be back again. BTW the staff and patrons our great, just don't expect much from the food.

Was my first time there. We ordered food and drinks which were great! Just one small incident happened with another customer who was obviously intoxicated. The bar team resolved the issue immediately and made sure we were 100% taken care of! If you go, please get a burger ! So yummy!

Busy place on a Friday evening, but we found a parking spot and a table. Service was quick and curt... Efficient. I'm not a fan of removing someone's drink from the table for a refill or blond tater tots. Please bring a pitcher or a new glass and crispy up those tots. The lamb gyro was superb.

Our first time there and it was awesome. The food is great and reasonable priced you can't go wrong. Big variety menu to choose from from appetizers to salads, sandwiches to main course meals including dessert. Full scale bar. Service is 100%. You got to come and try out McCools. Ask for Justin hes about awesome waiter.

A bit expensive but the food and service were exception.

The server was more interested in talking with people she knew than helping us. We tried to get her attention multiple times, and she ignored us. All we wanted to do was pay so we could go play pool but she kept walking past us or talking with friends at other tables. We finally got up and went and played pool in the back and waited for her to find us. Othe note. The food was really good!

I prefer 7 up over spright. It's bourbon and 7 I've never heard anybody order bourbon and Sprite. That said I will continue to be a customer🙂

Really good food...believe it or not the clam chowder was great...took the kids before a high school football game.Great food, service and ambience

Haven't been to McCool's for quite a while. I was sorely reminded as to why. Maybe this review is because I hadn't been drinking to cover the quality of the food. Got a Diablo burger and my friend got their baked Mac n cheese with bacon. The burger wasn't any better than a thin preformed frozen patty. It was overcooked and definitely not worth the $17 or whatever it was. The Mac n cheese was mediocre and they charge $4 for what was probably 2 pieces of bacon chopped up in it, and 2 pieces of garlic bread. Not worth $20 at all. I would imagine it may be good food if you've been drinking or are drinking at the moment. But almost $50 for some less than mediocre food and a host with a questionable attitude? Yeah, not again! Too many choices nearby to spend my money on.

It's been a spell since I was here last? Like a 5 year +plus a few weeks spell? I ordered the same meal fried clams as I did last time I was here with a couple of sides garlic bread and coleslaw and all were delicious although the coleslaw as a little bit dry but acceptable! And that is my only solitary critique? I came here today with the same friend who still lives in the neighborhood? 4 stars****! good

I've been going here for 25+ years, the staff and food is always amazing! It's hard to find a Pub & Grill with nice staff these days. Thank you all!

2nd time here. The food is excellent and quite filling. The atmosphere is pretty cheery and welcoming. The service is great and I feel that the staff wants to make sure that everything is satisfactory. I highly recommend this place.

Their French dip was amazing for lunch. Juicy and the au jus had great flavor and saltiness. Service was attentive and prompt

I used to go here a lot but recently they got expensive and service not all that great. Their menu also slimmed down.

To preface, I love a dive. However, the food I consumed here and the cleanliness of the establishment was disappointing. Customer service was lacking. The bar wasn't even a little busy but the customer service was abysmal, we spoke to our server maybe four times total, she was always running around but hardly seemed to talk to our group at least. I didn't bother drinking at this bar, that was lowkey how bummed I was to find it in this condition. I wouldn't trust the hygiene at this establishment to be frank. I did eat the garlic cheese bread, I'm only human.

Went to McCool's for lunch. Sat in the booth for 5 minutes without anyone acknowledging me. Went up to the bar and found no one was behind the bar. Sat for another few minutes hoping for at least a glass of water, and no one came. Definitely would not recommend.

Cool neighborhood bar, great choice of beer. They really need to improve on their food. I've only ordered a few things, so there may be some things that are decent.

Just your typical CARDBOARD TASTING bar and grill restaurant with expensive prices and small portions.... When will this madness end in America of expensive rubbish meals?!?? I DARE YOU TO TRY I PROMISE YOULL BE BEYOND UPSET.... Nice service though but who cares

This run of the mill pub sits on the corner of the Safeway parking lot with its bright neon signs. Parking is pretty awful since it's located right by the entrance and exit. We ended up parking a few shops away closer to Shari's. It's pretty dark in there and fairly loud but fun and carefree. We were able to book an entire area free of cost for 20 people in anticipation of a going away party. I was able to check in early to work on some decorations. Multiple staff were very gracious about getting me set up with water while I decorated. As people trickled in, they were able to keep track of everyone's orders with only a few mistakes, which they amended immediately. They were very good about remembering our names and took the time to get to know us. Food was standard American fare. Portions were relatively generous. Taste was decent. Getting food on our table did take some time. Overall, what I recommend most is the service. Everyone was outgoing and attentive. And renting the space was complimentary which is so difficult to find. Will no doubt keep this restaurant in mind for the future, especially for smaller events!

Stopped at McCools while in town for an event. With a desperately hungover partner in tow we couldn't hold out for the Pho or Ramen we usually go for. Partner needed booze and McCools was the closest place to provide. I remember coming here back in the day when I managed a band and everything seems the same. They serve all hours and do breakfast. They have the typical staples. Eggs, hash, CFS, pancakes and all the little bells and whistles. I went for a English muffin breakfast sandwich. My partner went straight for the whiskey. We sat at the cozy bar next to the regulars with a few dinners at the tables and booths. They have plenty of room and can host large parties. Our bartender was a straight shooter. Nice guy. He served us promptly. My breakfast sandwich came without the sausage but I didn't care. I wanted something lite and lite I received. The bartender slashed the price and apologized. No problem. Overall just an average pub. A-Okay.

Had a breakfast meetings and opted for the Biscuits and gravy. So delicious, hit the spot on this rainy day. Would definitely order again.

Had a buffalo chicken wrap Was tasty Could only eat half, but was delicious. Easy to share or have to box up. Our friends had the burger... not one bite left so that oughta tell you how that was

Outstanding food selection and very tasty. Juan heads up the kitchen staff and provides outstanding dishes I enjoyed. Highly recommend checking this gathering place out, where you looking for a crafted draft beer or dinner you will not be disappointed.

Good food, great selection and friendly atmosphere. It has the Cheers vibe. Love the burgers, fish and chips, wraps, salads and nachos. I guess I like everything!

Not bad, but not great. Nothing really stands out as far as the food goes. I get the impression the effort if more on the bar aspect.

McCool's is awesome. I know, I can't believe I just wrote that. The place is so unassuming from the outside, bland decor and what looked like a wannabe Shari's. It's strip mall neighbors (Pet store, Chinese joint, nail salon, and Safeway) don't make it look any better either. Hence the initial shock when my low expectations were completely exceeded. I had probably driven by this place a thousand times without any interest of ever going in. At the request of a friend, I'm so glad I did. The place is bigger than it looks and looks like it could be a mini-Applebees with the set up. There a lot of youngins here during my first night crowding the big bar in the front. With a solid array of TVs, this place could also be a decent place to catch a game. The staff is accommodating but a bit understaffed during the late night hours with only a bartender and a waitress. The bartender can be a bit distracted with all of the folks crowding the counter, so it may be best to hash it out with the waitress even if it takes awhile to get your drinks / food. Our waitress was super nice and surprised someone in my group with a free birthday sundae while charming us with flair and dirty jokes. Being used to Happy Hour prices in New York, I was floored when I saw how amazingly inexpensive this place is during its nightly happy hour (4:00-6:00PM & 10:00PM-01:00AM) in which the specials range from $2.95 and up per drink. The drink menu is fairly extensive, with a solid variety of cocktails and an adequate selection of beers on tap. There is fairly typical bar food as well, which is also cheap and satisfying while munching over some drinks. The most expensive happy hour food item was the fish and chips ($5.95), followed by mini-corndogs ($2.95), chicken fingers ($3.95), tater tots ($2.95), and onion rings ($2.95). I wish they had more business, but given its location its likely to cater to a local Clackamas crowd for the most part. If it's not employees of the strip mall square coming out here for a drink, it's going to be the residents of the area vying for some happy hour action. Count me in for another go when I'm back in the area.

Susan's the best. Love the neighborhood bar feel,everyone is family here. Shepherds pie, potato skins, absolutely delicious.

Came in for the first time tonight. I had the best time with great attentiveness from the bartender named Daniel. I had the best experience. I felt like I was home right away. honestly a fun experience and I can't wait to come back.

Love McCool's!! Usually I will come here if it's later in the evening and I'm not feeling anything too fancy. I always get tator tots and maybe a sandwich. Long islands are awesome here! The staff is great and always comes to check up on you in a timely manner. Tables are always clean and it's not too loud of an atmosphere. there is also outside seating if you prefer it. Cool little local eating stop. Will be back plenty more.

They have Guinness on draft! The staff was amazing. Sooo nice. I came on a Monday afternoon and didn't have to wait for a refill at all. The calamari is amazing. Fries came out so hot and fresh I was blown away. I was given plenty of sauce for my food. And I can't stress enough how amazing the guy who helped us was. He's so polite, best service I could have asked for! 10/10

After working at a nearby location, I decided to stop @ McCool's for dinner, because hubby wants German restaurant (we've been to), and I'm looking for well . . . Irish food for a chance! It was noisy! We didn't forgot, it's a pub, but we did forgot it's a college world series finals playing OSU - Beavers with Arkansas - Razorbacks. (Too bad, we left too soon, when it was 2-3. Final score? 5-3. Oh yeah!) When the waitress came to take our order, I told her, this is an Irish pub, and what would you recommend that is IRISH? "There's an Irish Shepherd Pie in the menu" and another, which I now forgot what that was." OK, then, I'll order the Halibut Fish & Chips! The halibut was small child-size portion, I guess this is what you'd expect if they're too busy and expecting a big crowd, so you get a smaller portion, 'so they don't ran out?' Everything else is, good, but I was hoping for some Irish food! So, you could say, with that, I'm disappointed, and there's NOTHING IRISH about this place, other than the name, and a few Irish do dads here & there! The food should have at least MORE Irish selections than 'other'. Hubby had the Rib Eye steak (cooked to his satisfaction) with garlic mash potatoes & gravy, (delicious together), asparagus (fresh & well cooked), & toasted French bread. Oh, because this is our first visit here, you also have to sit yourself! And found one right away, so that's a good thing!

I've patronized McCools for some 20 years. The food is good and all that you would expect from a local sports style pub. Service is good and the servers are the faces of who we've known for years Here's my beef. There is a very nice patio with seven tables or so and on warm evenings it would be a very pleasant place to enjoy your favorite dish and beverage. Unfortunately it it set up as the smokers haven and the wafting of smoke across your table makes the meal unpalatable. My star rating would definitely increase with access to also being able to enjoy the patio. Such a bummer.

Waited 20 min to be seated along with two others who walked in before us. "Regulars" walked in straight to the bar got a drink an an instant seat on the patio. I asked if that was customary service when another regular yelled out from his table said if I didn't like it to go elsewhere. so I did. Terrible service. Won't return or recommend.

Used to be a great place to eat, the staff was friendly and the food was delicious and affordable. Not the same anymore, Food is still great but the prices are insane! Was charged $19 for two chicken strips and some fries... the prices aren't updated on their takeout menus either and the staff was rude when I asked why I was charged so much for what was supposed to be a $13 meal based on their menu. Wish I could say I'd be returning but the prices are just too outrageous for what they serve...

Went in to have breakfast and could not believe how expensive it was for Breakfast. $19.00 for french toast,egg and sausage. Was not worth how expensive it was. Will not go back!

McCool's is alright with potential to be cool, but the pub grub is mediocre. If you're looking for some bar food and a brew for Happy Hour in Happy Valley, McCool's Pub & Grill is a-ok. I've tried four food items at McCool's (other than draft beers) and each was kind of so-so. * Belfast Banger's & Mash This was the most disappointing cause I had high hopes based on the Irish theme. Mediocre Sausages were the culprit despite a healthy dose of Mustard. (2 stars) * Pasta Rustica Grilled Chicken and Parmesan top this bowl of Penne in a bland Cream Sauce (3 stars) * Halibut Fish 'n Tots Switched from Chips to Tater Tots, but the slightly over-fried Halibut is the star (3 stars) * Cobb Salad Bacon, Blue Cheese Crumbles, Grilled Chicken and Diced Tomatoes form a reliable salad (3 stars) Sitting at the bar is actually the better choice than the tables because service seems faster and friendlier. With plenty of free shared parking for the strip mall and a diverse American menu, McCool's is more convenient and safe to watch sports in a bar than it is cool.

Great atmosphere, great bartender, nice seating . I enjoyed my time her GREAT DRINKS ... & they had Red Bull for my Jager . I'm very pleased . I'd encourage anyone to come here

**HH review only** We ordered nachos ($5.95), cod fish & chips ($5.95), double cheeseburger ($4.95), & a Fish Tale IPA ($4.00). The nachos is loaded with ground beef, beans, shredded cheeses, chives, black olives, jalapeños, sour cream, guacamole, & salsa. It's large enough to share with one other & of all the items on the HH menu this is probably the one worth its price. The cod fish & chips weren't that bad actually. Two decent size pieces & choice of fries or tots; we chose tots, cajun-style. The basket of fries or tots for $3.95 on the menu seemed high for HH but paying $2 more & getting the same amount of tots as you would plus two cod seemed justifiable. The double cheeseburger isn't worth the price when all you're getting is a double cheeseburger. I've never ordered a double cheeseburger anywhere but we decided to since our server enthusiastically reported to us that it was her favorite item on the HH menu. Double burger, double cheese, lots of pickles, & thousand island-type dressing is not exciting nor favorable. At first bite, my fiancé described it as a BK double cheeseburger. I was immediately unimpressed. The IPA was good but we were surprised for this being an Irish-American Pub that Guinness was priced high at $5 a pint. Why not cheaper? Oh well, it was just an observation. We liked our server right off the bat. Gail brought menus over right away & we asked about changing sports channels since we were eager to know a score of a football game. In an instant all the channels in the pub were switched to that game. She was quick to bring our food & refill our drinks & all the while with a smile on her face. McCool's has an okay happy hour but it isn't the place to go for healthy foods obviously. This is pub fare & pub fare is usually just mediocre & that's just what McCool's is. Mediocre.

Was looking for a drink and something to eat and McCool's is super close to my house so stopped in even though it was the weekend and I anticipated they might be busy. I had been once before with my boyfriend and we had an okay time. It was crowded but I did find an open table and a young man who was working there seated me. As I waited for someone to take my order I noticed a couple of different people at the bar staring at me. Several groups of people came in and were seated after me and I watched as they got water, drink orders and then food orders taken all before I had even been acknowledged by someone. It had been around 20 minutes and I finally grabbed someone and asked if I could get some service. He went and talked to a server and I waited around 5 more minutes without being acknowledged and then left. I get the feeling that this place serves mostly locals and that if you look different at all, it's made clear that you're not welcome.

I can't believe this place doesn't get better reviews! This is a favorite of all the locals I know. Great food, strong drinks and a smoking patio all at a reasonable price! Crispy chicken sandwich is amazing.

The food is mediocre. The service is mediocre. The beer is really, really cold. I left my purse there and when I called the following morning it was locked in the office. Someone had helped them self to a $100 cash finders fee, but everything else was there. For that, I was thankful and I hope the person who took the cash bought a round for the bar.

Did not get any better , my son gave them another chance and was very disappointed. Now he knows not to go back. They just don't care

''I from time to time whenever I'm in the area I drop in here with a friend who lives in the area and as part of the lunch crowd? On this day [yesterday] we came later in the evening? I ordered Pan fried oysters with two sides! Coleslaw and onion rings! A delicious meal it turned out to be. The lemon slices for my oysters was the coup de gras ? This is a sports bar but neither the drinking or the big screen holds any interest for me! But the food is very delicious. . as usual again I leave 5 stars*****!

I've been coming to McCools for three years. Everyone is super nice and the food is great. By far the best server is Stacy R. She always has a smile and is happy to see you.

Laid back atmosphere, kid-friendly, really good chicken fingers! This is the kind of place that I could become a regular.

Truly one of the greatest family , sports pub and grill in town. Have been coming here for the last 5 years, for business meetings with clients, to just having fun. The ambience is awesome ,and the food is great. Check it out.

1 or 2 starts.. it's a toss up.. McCool might sound cool but that's as far as it goes.. decor is sports-ish, neighborhood bar. the food at this place is pretty bad. menu has burgers, sandwiches, pasta, random "bar food". the hummus plate (why did the person I was with order that?) was probably one of the worse hummus plates i've seen and tasted.. it sucks. my club sandwich was ok. we had to send the steak back. the food is way overpriced for the quality that it is.. it's pretty bad food. they do have a bar and a lot of beer on tap..

Was in Oregon for a few days and one of Mr friends took me out to eat here and what can I say besides awesome the chicken strips have to be some of the best I've ever ate onion rings was awesome and so was the cheese sticks really good bar food would recommend to anyone in the area

Who doesn't love day drinking? Went to the bar because it was the closest one to my house. Left to another bar after one drink because waitress (short hair, heavyset) was horrible in every way.

Avoid this place there are better options for the money. Do not do business here - $14 and $15 dollar hamburgers ARE YOU kidding! No thanks with your customer numbers down I hope you go out of business. I'm done spending money at this place - plenty of other places in this area to support, pick a place that appreciates your business and is not so $greedy$

Meh. Stopped in for happy hour and found a Friday night was pretty busy with the Clackamas high football game in town this week. The outside town team rooting section stopped in before the game as well. Real loud and busy. The happy hour menu looks better than it is. The burger was actually 650 and it was not really any bigger then a double cheeseburger from mcdonalds. Now that I think of it mickey Ds is actually bigger. The onion rings were under done and a little soggy. Not all of them but inconsistencies in the crispness for sure. I'll give them one pass on this visit since the place was standing room only with the prefootball crowds and it might have affected the food, except for the size of the HH burger which is what it is. Maybe I'll try on another slower night to see if they can improve their score.

They earned a two because they did make me a decent cocktail but it took a ridiculous amount of time to get just that. I tried to order food like twice and gave up. I was with a small group and they would come by every twenty minutes or more and would only really ask like two people at a time if they wanted something and then run away. I know it is a strip mall in Clackamas but the servers are like non existent. I kept wondering where they were since our table were some of the few people in there so they were not at another table.

Great local clackamas spot. Good food and huge whiskey selection! Best club sandwich around!
