I am so sorry to say that I did not enjoy my experience at McCormick Cafe.
After having bookmarked it for 3 months as a "must go to" place, my husband and daughter went without me about a month ago. They had an omelet, and really enjoyed it.
Then my husband and I went about a week ago. The service was really awkward, and not in a good way (is there a good way?).
We ordered an omelet and a spinach and strawberry salad. As usual, we asked for no cheese on the omelet. I would feel bad that we do this everywhere we go, I mean, as a foodie, it hurts me a bit to order anything that is altered from the way the chef intends it to be, but we tip well, so I feel better. The fact of the matter is, we do eat cheese on occasion, but only at restaurants we fully trust to make something so amazing that we are willing to have a stomach ache for a day and a half afterwards. We weren't to that point yet with McCormick Cafe, so no cheese on our omelet, please.
The omelet wasn't really great; it was actually not even hot, and I had a terrible stomach ache the next day from the huge amount of cheese that was on it (and in it). I know, I should have sent it back. We would have, but we didn't really like asking our server for anything up until then, and it took a while to get our order out the first time. A girl's got to go to work, so we just didn't have the time to wait again.
I think the salad dressing was a kind of balsamic reduction at one point, but it was SUPER sweet; the salad itself was good.
We visited during lunch, so I had a hot tea. The staff wasn't sure if any of the loose leaf tea options were caffein free; in fact, they told me the only caffein free option was chamomile. I wasn't really into feeling sleepy after lunch, so I asked what other options they had. Spearmint was one of them, so I asked, "Your spearmint tea has caffeine?" They weren't sure, so I took a a risk and tried it. Again, it was loose leaf, and, unfortunately their steeping spoons didn't hold all of the leaves back, so I had a lot of the tea in the bottom of my cup, which isn't a big deal to most people, but worth noting.
So, overall, it wasn't horrible. But, it wasn't great. It wasn't fun, and as much as I feel awful for saying it, I really didn't like the experience as a whole.
Lots of people love McCormick Cafe, though. If I wanted cheese on my omelet and love sticky, sweet salad, I probably would have liked the place a lot more. I'm so sorry I didn't. Maybe my tips can simply help when you try it out for yourself.
