Such a disappointment. It has really gone off the boil.
We eat at Mcgrory's at least once every summer for our annual trip home to Inishowen. For a while it had been the best and most reliable place for a good meal on the peninsula, thanks to the Bhutanese chef who had not only the mastered the standard Donegal fare but also added a mean curry and some welcome but accessible innovations (Football Special-marinaded chicken wings!!).
We were really looking forward to our reservation last week, but saddened to see that the only thing that really remained from the previous McGrory's experience was the friendly, helpful waiting staff.
The menu has got shorter and more boring, and the food does not hit the heights. Steaks - it must be said - were well cooked, but the burger was dense and heavy while the seafood salad came with smoked salmon that had been warmed up! The texture was tougher and the flavour reduced - not what you expect at all, let alone for €28! My wife flagged it with the waitress, in case there had been a mistake, but the table next to us suffered the same fate when their food was delivered 30 mins later.
Hopefully this is teething trouble after new management took over. We've had enough great evenings to give it a chance next year, but we'll be returning with some trepidation!
