First time eating here. Absolutely amazing. The mixed grill was great and everything was cooked to perfection. The cheesecake is one of the tastiest things I've ever eaten in my life. No exaggeration. Would highly recommend this place.

Walking in you would be forgiven for thinking you've walked back in time to a 90's Italian restaurant, but don't let the dated decor fool you. The staff were funny and helpful, very informative of the menu choices. The portion was very generous, the starter was like a main by itself. I had the mixed grill, the steak was soft and flavoursome, the lamb fell off the bone and cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.

Amazing food and dinning experience! Small place that smells delicious and tastes the same! We got the garlic mushrooms for an appetizer! The sauce was a must have. And I ordered the ribeye seared in a pan and it tasted wonderfully!

Very smart well laid out restaurant. I love steaks and burgers. If I had to eat steak every meal for the rest of my life I would not be devastated. Whilst I began to think the wait for the food was slightly long I understood why when it arrived. The nicest steak I've ever had. I'm 37 and I love steaks to put that in perspective. Outside on the window it says 'owned by butchers' and boy does this show. My chargrilled rump tasted unlike anything I've had before.... The chargrilled taste was superb. This was along with extremely nice on-the-vine tomatoes and curly fries. I savoured my steak from start to finish and have never wanted to pass on my appreciation to the chef because of their steak before. (unless the chef is the Mrs and you pretty much have to) A real steakhouse done well with emphasis on great cuts of meat brilliantly cooked.

Google
Amazing local meat, it was great to see that the waiters were very knowledgeable and provided great advice. Definitely recommend! Maybe the place itself needs a bot of a lift but you may be nicely surprised as we were. The best meat we had in Edinburgh or Uk even.

Meat was delicious and perfectly done, sides on the point and sauces add even more taste to the whole. All in all, 1st-class experience in a very informal yet fully professional place. I'll definitely be back 😊

Went for the short Tomahawk steak but not available on the night, selected the 10oz Ribeye with sweet potato fries, asked for medium and steak was perfectly cooked and the taste was okay however as you can see from the photo not much else on the plate for £27.99 and that’s not cherry tomatoes as stated in the menu. Given it was 5:30pm and just open with one other table, service was slow to average, overall gave 2 stars as I’ve had much better for less money and as a dining experience I wouldn’t comeback as I know there’s far better restaurant’s to be had in Edinburgh.

Fancied a steak and realised that this place did an early 🐦 special. Was pretty great steak was lovely and staff very polite and friendly. It met my expectations and dinner was well received, thank you!

Yelp
Food was good, filet was prepared well. Service was poor. Seemed as though we were inconveniencing the waiter. Nice gin selection.

Yelp
We ordered a sirloin and a ribeye, both were underwhelming, bland, ordered medium well and they bloody, fried kale was good, fries and sweet potato fries were good, 1 thin slice of zucchini was okay, red wine was good, lemonade was actually 7up with a lemon slice, small tables, sliding glass door. Was convent and close to hotel.

Yelp
I stop by with some colleagues after a conference the other night for a quick bite to eat. This is a great place for a Scottish experience in a great steakhouse. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and our waiter had a great sense of humor. It was quite enough for us to hold a conversation at our table. The menu is quite extensive and as the name implies, mostly focused on steaks and chops. There were two vegan items and a number of great side dishes if you happen to go with anyone who doesn't eat much meat. They have tons of options (some with that great Scottish delicacy, haggis)! Most of our group went with a steak or chop of some sort and most even tried the haggis and loved it! I had a late lunch and had eaten at the conference so I opted for a lighter dinner. I had the butternut squash and chickpea stew with couscous and a side of vegetables. It was absolutely delicious. What a treat! Everything else at the table looked great as well our entire group (13 people) was thrilled. The only caution that I would add is that it took a while to order and to get our food. We were there for well over two hours; not uncommon in Europe, just a note to be aware of.

Yelp
I am always amazed when I recommend this place to people and they have never hear from it. Nestled on the way down Morrison street towards Haymarket this unassuming restaurant contains some of the best meat you are likely to taste in Edinburgh. I can't recall if the people who run it are in the butcher's trade themselves or if they know really good butchers but it is one or the other and it really shows. The cuts of steak may be pricy but they are well worth it and are not cooked with any fancy touches or unnecessary garnishes. The cooking simply lets the quality of the food speak for itself.

Yelp
I agree with Brett, McKirdys is a little bit of a let down (and Ruth Chris is the business) I'm not much of a steak expert, but how you cook it doesn't matter, it's the quality of the meat. I'm not saying this stuff is low grade or anything, it's good. But it does't merit the acclaim that the waiters were quick to give it. The meat looked a little skinny, definitely not what I was expecting. Desert was excellent though. So give this place a try if you're not expecting much.

Yelp
This was my second visit to this restaurant within the last 2 months. You can take it from our quick return that we were happy with the first visit. McKirdy's is not somewhere I had heard of before, it is a standard Steakhouse with the twist being that it is part of an apparently well-known butchers. On last Saturdays visit we went with 3 friends, we had not booked and it was around 5pm so not a busy time. When we arrived there was only one other table occupied, however when we left 2 hours later it was fairly fool. The same Irish water attended our table as our last visit. He is dripping with Irish charm, confidently dealing with drinks and menus, I hate having a menu without a drink. He did not rush our selection that was a toil as the selection of steaks etc is considerable. When he return to take the order he was charming and funny helping us make, the unusual but I thought a good idea, our choice of steak, how it should be cooked, pan fried or griddle, and the 3 different potato options, not forgetting a sauce. The food itself was served quickly and all of my fellow dinners agreed the steaks were excellent. One of the group plumped for a burger, he is somewhat an expert in these, he reported that is was the best he had ever eaten, high praise indeed. All in all this place is a bit of a find, not the cheapest place to eat a steak but with the charming staff, good food and pleasant environment, it is defiantly a place I will return with more of my friends.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the service here. Waiter was very good at listening to us and figuring out what would be most suitable. Food was super, and steak cooked perfectly. Very relaxed and didn't feel rushed. Service was attentive, but not overly so. I don't usually write reviews, but this spot deserves a thumbs up.

Yelp
wanna know my idea of a "5 star steak?" then just take a look at the 2 photos i've posted on my yelp profile. wherever i go, i search out the best bovine offerings. here in edinburgh, after several inquiries, i decided to try this place in search of superb steak. it was tough to get in over the weekend but i landed a table sunday night expecting 4-star or better beef, especially considering the reputation of scottish beef. i began with their "award winning" mini-sausages. not bad; there were several different tasty varieties served up. i opted for the ribeye, advertised at a mere 8 ounces so i didn't expect a hearty portion. i got a quality steak, cooked perfectly to order but nothing special and very, very thin. suitable for a really good steak and eggs breakfast. could my mild disappointment be because steaks are just different back home in the states? the two scottish steak afficionados at the next table mirrored my not-so-great verdict. one of them said that the american chain ruth's chris was the best steakhouse he'd eaten at and even though it's a chain i agree it's leagues ahead of mckirdy's. shame, since this place came so highly recommended. but i thought their curly fries (which i dipped in a lovely stilton blue cheese sauce) were just as good as the steak and that's never a great sign.
