We stayed 2 nights for our anniversary and had a great time. All our meals were delicious and just a few minutes to the beach. We didn't golf this time, but we booked another 2 nights stay in a couple of months. Can't wait to go back!

Only dined, didn't stay in a room. Food was ok, not superb, but to be fair it was my first time there so perhaps it's just what I got (shrimp slider and broccoli cheddar soup). Awesome friendly waitstaff.

Google
Legendary place. Great location. Server was inattentive for the few people that were there. Didn’t stay the night but would think it’s on par with other eclectic McM hotels that we love to stay. Wonderful art work as usual.

Google
Rooms had everything but a coffee pot. Lots of quirky atmosphere, great restaurant and bar, right on the golf course and a short walk to the beach. Friendly staff. Great price.

Google
Great bed and great view of the golf course. Nice room, and we had the king suite which has a balcony. Had some attitude from a couple of staff members working in the Sand Trap Pub. We didn't go back there. But a nice location very close to the beach and a relaxing and well appointed hotel.

Gorgeous and historic hotel! Superb rooms, food, and service! Location is beyond expectations! Highly recommended!

My wife and I stayed in one of the king rooms in the annex. The room was clean and comfortable but with two exceptions, no refrigerator and tiny pillows for the king sized bed (think 4 throw pillow sized pillows for the bed). The lack of adequate refrigeration and pillows was barely a thought though when the grandeur of the golf course, buildings and nearby beach were taken into consideration. All in all, we will return (this time with our own pillows and non-refrigerated snacks). Great hotel, great restaurants on site, one of the best links courses I’ve ever seen. Love it here.

Our family of 5 went for dinner on a Saturday evening and I have never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant. Zero personality from the waiter and felt like he really had no desire to help us. Didn’t take a drink order was rude when we asked for drinks. And barely check back on us. Usually have great experiences at mcmennimams. Maybe he was having a bad day. Left him a large tip anyway. Hope he has a better day tomorrow

Yelp
Attentive to guests, quiet hotel, if that's what you're looking for. Beach access is only a few blocks away.

Yelp
This is such a fantasticly gorgeous location to visit and stay the night. Short walk to the beach or their Sandtrap bar. They do have bikes to check out. It reminds me of an 80's movie. Situated on a golf course. I am not a golfer but I enjoyed the property emensely. If it is really busy, parking can be a challenge.

Yelp
I usually never ever leave reviews. I am from bend Oregon so I absolutely love the Old St. Francis location. I've also stayed at the Kennedy School in Portland and absolutely loved it. I was very excited to check another Mcmenamins I have never explored before off my list. Gearhart unfortunately wasn't what I had hoped for and I had wished there was a review that I read like this before booking. I called before our stay to ask simple questions and both employees I spoke to were very rude. The Gearhart location is very underwhelming compared to other locations. The pictures make it look more extravagant than it actually is. We waited until happy hour mostly because we didn't get hungry until later and ordered a simple pizza and we ended up being overcharged. In the morning for breakfast we stood at the bar for a very long time not knowing how to order with no one in sight and were finally greeted by a very rude employee. The breakfast tasted like everything on the plate was microwaved. Not to mention the waitress was hovering when we were paying for breakfast and were selecting a tip. I understand people have bad days and I am typically very understanding of that but once every worker in the building has been rude it's kind of hard to be so understanding lol! The overall tone was just very unwelcoming for such a small location with very few other guests. If you just simply need shelter and want to walk the coast and enjoy you're room then this is a great place to stay in for the night. I would recommend eating elsewhere.

Yelp
Sally at the front desk was very welcoming and had a great attitude. When checking in at Mcmenamins Gearhart, say hello to Sally at the front desk. Sally helped us with our passport prizes

Yelp
The opportunity to relax, the food was good and the service in general seemed to be more than what we needed! We enjoyed the place! The only problem we had was we asked three times for somebody to turn the cool air fan or air-conditioning off in the room. They insisted that it wasn't on when I showed them I turned off the thermostat - continued to blow cold air. We were freezing most of the time we were here, we are from Arizona and it was quite uncomfortable. We were told a couple times maintenance would check on it, but nothing changed , and we definitely had an uncomfortable room most of the time!

Yelp
We stayed here one night and had a blast. Although it was rainy all weekend, hanging inside the hotel was truly a treasure. It was Cody and the staff was very friendly. We are big Mcmenamins fans so loaded up on their black rabbit wine and Cajun tots. We ended up getting engaged on the beach during this trip, and will always remember the amazing time we had.

Yelp
We were in the area and decided to check this place up as we've been wanting to stay there. Had our McMenamins passports so we walked around the place collecting our stamps. The staff was real nice, the decor was typical McMenamins but yet this hotel doesn't feel like the usual McMenamins. It's in the middle of some condominiums/suburban beachy area, I'm sure the water views and/or beach access is great but part of the charm of these places is the gardens and a feel that you're somewhere further away. If you're a golfer then this is your McMenamins.

Yelp
Hosted friends from Germany for breakfast. Highly recommend that if this is the best they can do that they quit serving breakfast!! As a Gearhart resident we were embarrassed. Very few tables. Unwelcoming server. Forgot the fruit. Forgot the bacon. Actually needed a knife to cut the pancakes. Poor selection of loud music. Never returned to ask how breakfast was or offer a refill on coffees. We were the only table when we left at 10:15. As I said, they should cease serving breakfast if this is an indication of daily service.

Yelp
We stayed here for our 40th anniversary, so were hoping for a special time at the coast. We have stayed at McMenamins in Portland and Bend before, so we knew the vibe and what to expect. Our room was small, charming, and unique - which is the McMenamins experience. What surprised us, in a not good way, was how thin the walls were (we heard everything next door) and how old the bed felt (lumpy and soft). The romance package with champagne and treats was awesome. I just wish the room had been a better experience for our special event.

Yelp
I simply love the location of McMenamins Gearheart Hotel. They have an enormous golf course, the fun little bar the Sand Trap on the course. The hotel is very close to the ocean beaches which you can easily stroll there on foot or use one of the bikes they provide if you are a hotel guest. On top of that the night we spent here was very, very peaceful. However there were a few things that didn't make the experience free of hiccups. Now, I'm used to the McMenamins restaurants to not be the fastest service out there. It isn't fast food and I've ĺearned to cool my jets on that regard. But in the case here it also seemed disorganized. We needed to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. We didn't wait long but apparently other parties with the same number as ours didn't get seated first and they were not happy which made the whole thing a bit awkward. The hostess seated us but then gave me the wrong menu so we weren't sure between Steve's menu or mine which was being served at the time. I think mine was for earlier in the day. Anyway it got sorted out. The bar downstairs from the front lobby felt like it took a while for the bartender to come out from the back as well. And then finally when we were turning our keys in at the front desk in the morning and there was nobody there to hand them over to. Feeling confused but wanted direction we called an emergency number posted at the desk and we woke up some poor lady to get direction as to where to drop off the key. Sorry to have woken you regarding a matter like that. Despite all that I would return to this hotel and go when it's not so rainy. I'd love to golf on the course and ride bikes. Not a big fan of going in the summer either as I'm sure it's a zoo but thinking very early Autumn would be nice.

Yelp
We always love our stay here in Gearhart. The rooms are very nice and they allow us to bring our little dog with us. We've been here multiple times to complete our passports but this time we came just to relax for a weekend. We walked around the grounds, ordered room service for dinner and breakfast, and relaxed in our room. It was a nice, rainy, winter, getaway for us. We loved that we had a TV in the room to watch a few movies. We even watched a TV show about haunted places and one episode featured the McMenamins White Eagle hotel! The staff was super friendly from check in to check out. Later in the evening I asked for an extra pillow and found the nicest woman to show me where to find them. They were having some trouble with their key programming when we arrived to check in but they accommodated us by going to our room with us to manually unlock the door and let us take our things in. By the time we returned from a quick trip into town they had the keys figured out and brought them to our room for us. Almost all of our stays at McMenamins hotels are great but this hotel is always one of our favorites.

Yelp
I've been busying myself working on my Mcmenamin's passport to help me pass the time during covid. This location is one of the nicer facilities of the hotels we have stayed at so far. The annex is a separate building right next door the original building. Not sure exactly when it came into existence, but the rooms are nice, with private bathrooms and TVs. It was so quiet at times I wondered if we were the only people staying in the building. Our room also had a great view of the golf course out the back window, where we witnessed many elk. My partner had a phone interview to attend which required me to be out of the room for awhile, I spent this time lounging in a hall chair reading a book in total peace. The hotel itself consists of two bars on site, one located on a lower level and having outdoor seating adjacent to the golf course. It was cold when we visited so we did not take advantage of this. We also missed out on checking out the sand bar, which is located a teeny bit away as they had limited hours due to covid times. Before I got here I had mistakenly believed that this hotel was located on the beach, that is not accurate, but it is within a few blocks walk to the beach. They also have bikes available for free check out if you feel like going for a bike ride. It was close enough to ride them to local stores/restaurants, but unfortunately most of them were closed.

Yelp
Really cool building. Room was fine-small but comfortable. The beach is a 2 block walk, but it's full of cars and trucks! We take our dogs and this just wasn't the beach for us. The staff all seemed new, but nice No one seemed to know much without asking someone else. We got seated upstairs patio with dogs twice in one day, but the next day were told dogs aren't allowed on that patio??! There were many dogs on the upstairs patio just the day before. The service was slow. Waitress was great. Food was good. No one bussed tables downstairs on Sunday. We left breakfast at 10:30 and came back at 2 for drinks, and our table still hadn't been cleared! All the downstairs tables were covered with dirty dishes. I understand being short staffed, like so many places since COVID. I went inside to the front desk and there were 4 employees standing around talking so I think maybe the staff is there, they just don't help each other out? Wouldn't stay here again. Great place if you like trucks on your beach and golf.

Yelp
We had a lovely stay here as I had to travel from Mukilteo, WA to Astoria, OR for a dog surgery. This pet-friendly hotel was great with a doggy package and were super nice in mailing back to me my leash which I left by mistake. Bobby at the front desk was a hoot and our server at the Sand Trap with the Black Flag tattoo was great. Nice to be across the street from the Ocean and have several bars to choose from. I would definitely stay here again!!

Yelp
beautiful location, walking distance to the beach, and wonderfully kept golf course. food: it was expensive and tasty. the cider flight was delicious. they have and offer many packaged named housemade foods, snacks (ice cream), drinks (alcohol) and etc. (sauces) for you to enjoy there or take home the rooms: dimly light, clean comfy, each room had a nice sitting area with table, tv and spacious bathroom we had fun looking for the secret room, enjoyed beers in the many pubs and taverns on the premises. staff: all so friendly and helpful. I lost my ring and I called to see if they may find it and they sent it back home to me. Great honest people

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights just this past weekend. The grounds and area is absolutely beautiful. The service in the sand trap pub was lacking and everything seemed to take so long and there were barely any people around. The pot bunker was cool, there is a secret room, the sand bar was closed because the bartender didn't show up to work but they still gave us a stamp which was awesome! Our room was huge! However, there was a white gross stain on our couch so we didn't sit on it. They did a turn down service when asked but didn't give us more toilet paper and didn't vacuum. That was sad.

Yelp
Room was ok, but way overpriced. Reserved the Valentines Package--The room normally cost $140/night and I spent $120 on meals. They charged my card for something another room ordered--hope those other people are happy I paid for their order. They ended up billing me package price "AND" meals. Package price was $233-Bill should have been no more than $270 total with room tax for bed and $90 toward meals--they charged my card $388. Wouldn't advise their packages--it's a rip off. The room had no fridge or microwave, and was an ADA room. I seriously doubt I'll ever stay or eat in another McMenamin's.

Yelp
A great time was had as usual! Weather was perfect on the coast and my friend and I were able to rent some bikes at the front desk and go for a peddle. An all around win for Mcmenamins!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I spent the night here before a brewfest in Astoria, and it was absolutely amazing! We both had SUCH a wonderful time, this McMenamins is so much fun and we both said its one of our favorite locations! Our room was in the new annex building, and it was absolutely perfect...a lofted bunk bed room that had a huge bathroom and a TV! It was seriously bomb....we loved it!! I wouldn't hesitate to come here again and would DEFINITELY recommend it to others...stay here!! Most of the property here is geared towards golf enthusiasts, however both of us don't play golf and we had a wonderful time. The grounds are beautiful, and of course inside the buildings is an adventure in itself and congruent with the rest of the McMenamins empire...compelling and interesting and creepy and historical and beautiful all rolled up into one! Make sure and poke around as surprises are around every corner here...and new discoveries are sure to keep guests entertained! Like I said above, our room was a bunk bed room in the new building, and it was superb. The ceiling was very high so even on the top bunk you didn't feel enclosed, we had a large window overlooking the golf course below, and a very large bathroom complete with a shower, sink, toilet, and shelving for toiletries. There was also a little table and chairs in the room, and a TV which is a novelty as most McMenamins rooms do not have them! I think our room name was "The Nibblick", which is maybe a golf term? I dunno, there was a picture of a bunch of ladies playing golf in our room so go figure. Anyway, we were VERY happy with our stay here and had a wonderful, restful night. One more feather to their cap, all the people we encountered here at Gearhart were extremely helpful and friendly! All the staff, including the front desk people were SO very sweet and personable, they were an absolute joy to interact with. A solid 5 star rating, the Gearhart hotel has earned it! Go see for yourself!

Yelp
We stayed in the annex. It's beautiful and well decorated. They have the alarm clock that allows you plug in two items on the table top, very convenient. I'm sorry to say that the bed is awful. Like a camp mattress. I don't even recall a worse bed in a hotel. They would do well to invest in some better quality mattresses. The power went out at 2 in the morning ( I realize that likely isn't the hotel's fault), so our sleep apnea machine shut off and never came back on. No breakfast in the morning because the power is still out. We went to turn our keys in at the desk and were met with a male employee who conveyed disinterest and irritation. We asked for the name of someone we could ask for when we call later and he just kept saying "call the property". We finally pressed him long enough that he relented and provided the managers name. I'll update the review based on any resolution they provide. UPDATE: We spoke to a manager who thanked us for our feedback and refunded our charges. Solid business practices. Because of this, we will likely give them another shot if the mattresses get upgraded.

Yelp
I make it a habit to stop in at every McMenamin's location I find, and was thrilled to discover this quaint resort on the Coast. We made reservations to arrive on a Sunday afternoon, to avoid the weekend golf crowd (Covid & all). We came into town around noon, and asked about an early check-in, so I could log into work and prep for the week ahead. The front desk agent told me, "They'll have your room ready in just a bit". No worries; we figured that would give us a good chance to walk down to the beach and check out the waves. Beautiful stretch of beach here, by the way! We returned about an hour later, confident we'd be shown to a room. The clerk said, "They're just finishing up and will call you shortly". Cool! We wandered down the fairway to the 'Sand Pub', a really great watering hole, done in true McMenamin's fashion! We enjoyed a couple brats & a beer flight, and had some great conversations with other guests out on the deck near our table. What a fun time! We took the long way back to the Resort, exploring another stretch of beach, and came back to the front desk. Still no room! By this time, the super tiny lobby was crowded with other guests sitting on the stairs, hanging out by the pool entrance, and lounging in the entry way, so I sat outside in the wind, for another 20 minutes, to enable effective social distancing. Finally, 5 minutes to 3 (the NORMAL check-in time), they called my cell and let me know they were ready for us! Yippee!!! In hindsight, I wish the staff would have told me, "We don't do early check-ins". That would have been fine; we could have gone into town and found wifi to connect to. SO FRUSTRATING to get such a lack of clear communication. I chalk it up to being short-staffed, which is understandable in this era, but the lack of communication is very sub-par for McMenamin's standards. The room was plenty comfy, but very small; while it didn't have a desk or a place for me to work on my laptop, we made do (The bathroom had plenty of room, so we 'compromised'...) The facility was a lot like the hotels they have with shared bathrooms - but really should have been roomier, to accommodate traveling remote workers. There was nothing in our reservation to indicate it would not have been adequate for remote working. The rest of the stay was fine; it is a truly beautiful location, and the back lawn & veranda is amazing! The good was great, as always. The staff - while not as friendly & engaging as other locations, were still efficient and available. Parking: Plenty of room for their guests - seemed safe & well-lit Layout: The bars & restaurants were easy to find, and the outdoor seating was really well donw. Menu: Classic McMenamin's style The Prize: Getting to stay on the Oregon Coast in a well-appointed resort is always a treat. Value: Decent prices, given the location, but we probably won't be back to visit the Gearhart Hotel again anytime soon.

Yelp
It's always fun to explore the larger McMenamins where you can explore and wander. You might even find a hidden room. We stopped at the main entrance to get the passport hint and then headed to Pot Bunker Bar for a couple drinks to wander with. An hour or so later we find ourselves at the Sand Trap for happy hour. I wonder, can you rent a golf cart if you're not playing golf?

Yelp
I got married on 08/10/2019 at the Gearhart Hotel. Our wedding was absolutely perfect! I am so happy we decided to have the wedding here. Not only are the grounds and nearby beach beautiful backdrops for a wedding, but the funky hotel decor and awesome food make it a super fun place to have a wedding. We were so impressed with the McMenamins wedding planner from the beginning. We currently live in Chicago and so were planning the wedding from a distance. Kristen was AMAZING. She made it so easy and stress-free, and spent so much time making sure everything was exactly as we wanted. She also helped us coordinate having our ceremony on the beach (beautiful!) and the reception back at the hotel. I would highly recommend McMenamins for your wedding - I still can't believe how affordable is was for the location and quality of service! All of the staff were incredibly sweet, and special touches like making sure we had a room with a balcony overlooking the golf course, and a bottle of champagne, made us feel very special and cared for. Now we're just waiting to come back for an anniversary trip :)

Yelp
I had to stop at this McMenamins, on my way back to Portland from Astoria. What a wonderful place. I have to admit that I had an ulterior motive as I wanted to get my passport stamped. I got all but one taken care of so it looks like I'll be back for another visit in the future. The customers were welcoming, the place was clean with a nice ambience and the waitress was super cool with a great attitude. I was there all of 30/40 minutes but it was a great, quick stop. I'll be back soon!

Yelp
I will start off with their Covid precautions are fine. They require masks inside, follow up with people who aren't and people are seated at every other table if there isn't a divider. We stayed the night and was looking forward to a much needed relaxing getaway kid free. My favorite thing is breakfast in bed which I was thoroughly looking forward too. When we arrived check-in was easy, we were told we were in the new annex building and the closest parking lot was below. I didn't realize this meant a steep walk up a hill with our bags and it's very confusing which door to use, because there are no signs. Once inside the room was clean and well put together. Grabbed the ice bucket and went on a walk, but realized in order to have ice in your room you had to leave the building and go to the main hotel and ask the guy at the bar for ice. Annoying. Had dinner at the pub after. The food was delicious and our server was great. It's a little hard to get through to anyone for a stamp if you play the passport game, but with patience we finished it and they had good 'prizes.' The next morning, came the highly anticipated moment of sleeping in and enjoying carbs in bed. Big ol' let down! I tried for 30 minutes to call room service and never got an answer, so I crawled out of bed and changed into real clothes so I could walk to the other building and order breakfast. I was greeted by a frazzled hostess, but was still clinging to the dream so I pushed on. She told me they weren't doing room service so I had to wait for it to go. As I stood awkwardly in the corner with nowhere to sit, I saw a number of people coming in who had done the same, ordering food to go, and was missing stuff from their order. I gave up and went back to the room and my husband tagged in. 30 minutes later he came back and said they forgot our coffee and never even cooked his order. So we threw in our bellies what we did get and packed up to leave. While this quick get away wasn't a total wash and there were some good moments, for the tune of $277 it was not worth it.

Yelp
Such a nice McHotel! It's tucked away over a golf course, and it's very peaceful and quiet. The rooms have so much character, and get a nice coastal breeze!

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend came here for my birthday and I can happily say it was a very pleasant trip! Our room was one of the smallest hotel rooms ive ever been in, but it was cute. All wooden walls and ceilings made for a cozy feel. I was hoping for a jacuzzi tub but the shower was really nice. The hotel is located on a beautiful golf coarse and just a couple blocks from the ocean. The restaurant downstairs had EXCELENT food and the service was great! If you go in the fall, I highly suggest their seasonal cinnamon peach dessert beer. It sounds weird but it was probably the best beer I've ever tasted. The only complaint me and my boyfriend had was the pillows. We should have asked for more because the two pillows they provided were completely flat and uncomfortable. Other than that, the hotel was great and we plan to return again but next time with our pup. ($15 extra for a doggy room)

Yelp
This is a restaurant review as we haven't stayed at the hotel. We went there during happy hour and my wife had a cheeseburger ($14.25) and I had a bacon cheeseburger with a gluten free bun ($15.75 + $2) and both had tater tots. We both had a seasonal cider that they call TriPPPY ($6.25 HH) that has peach, pineapple, and pomegranate juice. All of the McMenamins make great hamburgers and I think that they have about the best gluten free buns I've found. As usual, they set the gold standard for tater tots. The cider was wonderful and I hope that they make it a standard and not just seasonal.

Yelp
I just got married last weekend at the Gearhart Hotel. Our wedding was absolutely amazing and I cannot say enough positives about McMenamins! We were so impressed from start to finish with McMenamins. We were able to book the venue and a room block easily, and they provided us with free wine-tasting vouchers to Edgefield to select the wines that we wanted for the wedding. They also comped us their best suite for the night of the wedding, which was absolutely amazing and perfect for the night of the wedding. They use a food and drink minimum to cover the cost of the venue space, amenities, and staff, and this was super convenient for us and saved us a LOT of money. Kristen, the venue coordinator, was a god-send. She was amazingly knowledgeable, and she helped us with so many details prior to the wedding and the day of. She spent so much time making sure that every detail was perfect and to our expectations. The venue was set up and decorated beautifully, the staff were so helpful and polite, and the evening flowed with no hiccups or difficulties. Also, their food was AWESOME! We were so incredibly pleased with the menu and everything was delicious! My husband and I and our guests had a phenomenal evening, and everyone raved about how beautiful the location was and how amazing the staff were. We are so grateful to McMenamins for making our wedding day an absolute dream and for their wonderful service and expertise! I highly recommend using their wedding services!

Yelp
The Mcmenamins Gearhart Hotel was an average stay at best. They are short staffed in the hotel and the restaurant, which is happening everywhere, so the lines were long to order your food. The food was mediocre, the portions small. The staff were very friendly and very busy. We stayed in the annex. The rooms are a nice size, there is no refrigerator in the room, there are no ice machines in the annex and the pedastal sink in the bathroom offers very little counter space. They did have coffee urns downstairs in the morning which was nice. The rooms were on the second floor and there is no elevator, very big minus in my book when hauling up luggage etc. For $250 per night on the weekend, I would have liked to see the above things present. The golf course view is beautiful but parking was limited on Thursday night as there was a wedding.

Yelp
I think McMenamins has upped their game with their food from years past. I had the Halibut Burger and it was delicious! Service was great and attention to Covid safety was well done. Areas were clean and when doing the scavenger hunt, the houskeeping staff were gracious and accomodating when I walked through (as a former hotel maid, I know how frustrating it can be trying to get your job done when patrons walk through.) Many thanks for a lovely experience.

Yelp
Updated: Had a rough night here (see below) and the manager ended up completely taking care of us, going above and beyond. Amazing customer service and very classy handling of the situation. Very pleased with mcmenamins management. Thank you so much! Writing review as I'm TRYING to sleep in room 203...it feels like I'm sleeping on top of a loud vibrating motor. My husband and my head's are literally vibrating. Not ideal for sleeping, especially when 5 months pregnant and sick. This was supposed to be a relaxing night, instead I'm a very disappointed customer. I have reviewed about one thing ever on yelp, this seemed worth it. Don't stay if annoying constant noise or vibrating beds bother you.

Yelp
Had a nice time with a few friends having drinks & dessert in the bar served by a very friendly bartender. Very pleasant setting even if you didn't golf. After I got back to Seattle, I realized I left my new puffy coat behind. I called and offered to send a prepaid label to send it to me and they said not to worry. Received my coat a few days later. Thank you :)

Yelp
This is our second time staying in the Gearhart Hotel and we enjoy it a lot. I am not a huge golfer but it's quaint and close to the beach. The restaurant and bar in the basement are great to hang out in because they always have the fireplace going. The staff for the hotel are rad. We chose to stay in the annex on our second stay and it's a newer building, similar room styles but supposedly a little bigger and we enjoy it a lot.

Yelp
My husband and I booked a stay here this past July for a wedding. This location is very beautiful and and the food is very delicious at the restaurant! But, the reason for the 2 stars is whoever they scheduled to work our friends wedding needs to have their attitudes checked - its a wedding! The gentlemen who was working the bar always replied to us with a "uhg" and rolled his eyes when we requested a drink. He was also counting his tips in front of us! - how unprofessional! After all that we said ok we're not going to the bar anymore. But then the bride recommended us getting a Honeysuckle Riesling. So we asked for it and sure enough he replied to us with a "no we don't have it." Was reluctant to offer anything else to my husband and I. The cake was also homemade by a family member sitting on top of a beautiful family heirloom - a handmade tablecloth. Let me also remind you this tablecloth was now going to be handed down to the bride and groom. The girl who was cutting their cake got a little bit of cake on her hand and she wiped it on their tablecloth right in front of us! This was our first ever experience with a McMenamins. This just really puts a bad taste in our mouth to check out the other McMenamins locations.

Yelp
A bit pricy, but a lot of fun; as McMenamins always are. We stayed in the new addition this time, and the rooms are wonderful. Food is decent. Make a point of finding the newest bar... you'll have to go outside and look for this one ;-). Live music on weekends adds to the fun. And Seaside is only a few minutes away. Enjoy!

Yelp
Has some of the cool, funky flair found in other McMenamins lodges but was lacking the personality and service of other's I've stayed at. Not being able to order room service meals during COVID a big let down. Having to wait for someone to acknowledge and seat you at the Sandtrap super annoying. Employees huddled around the front desk gossiping and blocking the entrance to the Sandtrap then being rude to you just plain rude. No way to get hot water to make tea or get a cup of coffee until 8am depressing for an early riser. Having to go to the bartender to ask for ice water (tap water in room tasted awful) dehydrating. Super hard mattress, uncomfortable. Nasty perfume smell in room unhealthy for someone with allergies. Gasoline smell when waking up first morning and never receiving any explanation from staff as to reason but overhearing them speaking to repairman while trying to get past huddled mass of employees to get breakfast, infuriating! Food was good as usual from McM's and most, but certainly not all, of the staff were pleasant. Nice walk to Gearhart beach, really nice patio and lawn area with fire pits and chairs. Overall, not a lot to do on site if you're not a golfer... I would not recommend this McMenamins site for folk wanting a coastal getaway. Got my passport stamps, next time I'm on the coast will stay in Seaside or Cannon Beach instead.

Yelp
Five stars for the restaurant, three for the hotel. The rooms are charming, and have a nice bathroom. The bed is VERY FIRM (I want to say like a rock but that would be a cliche) and there were only three flat feather pillows so not the best night sleep. I THINK there is A/C in the room. There was a control on the wall labeled "Carrier" with a sliding temperature scale, and a toggle switch that looked like it was fake with a PTouch label reading "On" and "Off". It ran and blew air, but the room remained hot and stuffy. So we opened the windows which caused other problems. One was noise, as our room overlooked the entry way so there was a lot of foot traffic and yakking. Two was no screens on the windows so we had a bug or two. Our window faced the ocean but we could only see a tiny sliver between two large condo towers. Rooms on the other side overlook the golf course which would have been better. There's a ice bucket in the room, but you have to go to the bar to get ice which means you can't go when it's closed. So much for the bad. The staff was pleasant, and there is an elevator which is nice for such an old hotel. Parking is convenient, and the hotel restaurant is great. We had wonderful food (crab fondue, elk burger, veggie burger for dinner, and for breakfast biscuit and gravy and eggs benedict). And of course great beer selection.

Yelp
For the past three years, my friend and myself celebrate our birthdays at Gearhart. It's been a fun celebration and being present to see this hotel evolve has been interesting- adding a second building of rooms, a second bar with putting greens. Watching elk wander the range at dusk has been a common occurrence as well. The glow in the dark putting range was fun, even though they ran out of glow sticks for the holes- the glowing balls were a blast. Most of the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. However, with growth comes little hiccoughs. There were several new servers, and the hotel clerks were inconsistent with information provided. They offer a birthday gift to folks staying the night- a bottle of wine or 6 pack of they're beer. This was explained by one clerk as we got our rooms, but she nodded and resumed other details. At change of shift, there were 2 new clerks working so again we asked. One commented, 'oh, that's great. You should come back on your birthday' when being told we spend our birthdays here!?! I again reported 'well, it is BOTH of our birthdays' to which she smiled and resumed her work. As we were preparing to depart we mentioned to a third clerk that we had a great time for this birthday, she asked if we got our complimentary birthday gift. We told her about the previous 2 experiences. She reported some staff require additional training and apologized. The grounds are beautiful, there's lots to do at multiple beaches nearby. Borrowing one of the hotels bikes was fun, as well as hunting for 'hidden rooms' around the hotels. It's a kid friendly location with lots to do.

Yelp
Skyler welcomed us at check-in last night and was the most friendly and stress free experience we have had in the four times we've stayed here. Thank you Skyler! Love love love the new annex and our room was perfect. Thank you McMenamins!

Yelp
We chose McMenamins Gearhart Hotel for our June 2017 wedding. We had a great experience from start to finish. Elisha is amazing to work with and really helped us with everything and all of our questions along the way. We loved that everything was included, the bar staff, linens, take down and set up.. it was great! The food was awesome and the venue was perfect!

Yelp
I believe staying at a Mcmenamins is more for the experience and passport stamp, than actual value. Has the same 'dark- oldy- history' as most do. Room: the room we stayed in was real nice! King bed which was very nice i thought, big couch, TV, Decent shower that comfortably fit 2 people, as well as a big bathroom so you can both get ready. MANY windows! I think there were 6 total (we were on a corner room) which let in a LOT of light in the morning. Ceiling fan and table. They give you options to order breakfast the night before and they will bring it to you at a certain time if you have the menu hanging ion the door. - Cons- Room had no coffee maker, or A/C. To turn off the ceiling light on the fam you need the remote (which my husband told me they explained at the front desk, but I must have missed it cuz I ended up leaving it on since I couldnt figure out how to turn it off) lol so not really a CON but make sure you remember that! Also no fridge in the room however management DID inform me that they are more than welcome to store our food in their fridge downstairs for us! Which is amazing customer service! Staff: Front desk was really nice, informative and gave ideas of how to spend your time in Gearhart/seaside. - Bar staff was also nice but both times we had food there, for the amount of people that were eating too, service was relatively slow. Food and drinks were both delicious and they let you try any of their booze for $2! Surroundings: They have a nice golf course that at night filled up with Elk and that was amazing! Sooooo many elk! - Noise: Their garbage is across the parking lot and it was a little loud with them dragging the trash across the gravel. Also in the AM the golf cart lot was right under our room and shot me awake a little too early. They have live music on some nights which is pro/on but really cool! Overall Id stay here again but wish they had a mini fridge or something to store leftovers in.

Yelp
We've been enjoying the McMenamins passport immensely and have had great experiences in food and service. This was the exception. Granted, it was Hood to Coast weekend, which we participated in and anticipated a long wait. However, once we were seated, we waited an hour for our food, after ordering. We heard a nearby server warning her table (who was seated 15 mins after we were) that it would be a long wait for food. They received their appetizer and dinner before we did. When we asked our server about our food, he blamed the cooks. Then he brought the wrong meal for my husband, who had just run 15 miles and hadn't slept more than an hour. It took another 10 minutes to repair his order. He did not comp anything, but offered a free dessert. By then, we'd been there 2 hours and just wanted to leave. The food was mediocre. The service very poor. Not equal to our typical McMenamins experience. And now we're being rewarded with stop and go traffic for our pilgrimage to Gearhart. Better luck at our next stop!

Yelp
When we decided we wanted to get married in Gearhart, we knew the Gearhart Hotel was the only logical choice. Not only is it a beautiful historic building, but it has great energy and amazing food. Everybody at McMenamins was great to work with but especially Kristen. She went above and beyond to make our day fantastic, including hiding a case of rose in her office all summer. She was incredibly quick to answer dozens of questions and made sure every detail was right. McMenamins does so many events, they have great relationships with other vendors and it made it super easy to plan our wedding. Everything about our day was perfect and if anything went wrong, I don't know about it. All our guests couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the venue was and how much they liked the tots bar. Do yourself a favor - get married here.

Yelp
Seriously...4 of us girls came in for lunch, service was a C ...BUT I'm from restaurant industry and have respect...Came back at 10:45- to order simple soup and 4 packs of beer to go for the hubby. Went to the bar tender saying, " I know you close soon" then he looked at me and said you have to be out of the building by 11, so what do you want?" So rude didn't even know we only wanted simple soup and beer to go. I know this industry is struggling...but this is a bad taste-so not bringing home chowder home from this place. Get over yourself

Yelp
Well, I'm not the type to go out of my way to complain about crummy service (everyone has off days, and I know what it's like to be slammed with customers). But the service at McMenamins Gearhart today was beyond the pale of deplorable. Initially everything was good, fun report nice service, but started to go down hill when my coffee arrived with no cream or sugar (not necessarily a big deal but the waiter did ask if I wanted cream and sugar to which I replied to with a resounding YES!) when my wife went to ask the server if I could get some cream (as I grabbed the sugar myself) the waiter responded "oh, so NOT black then huh?". I never said black, uh-oh first bad sign. My 10 year old son (the only child at our table of three my wife my son and I) asked for a kids burger plain with no cheese, a little lettuce and some bbq sauce. I ordered my food and kindly asked if I could get some hot sauce with it when it came. My wife ordered a half of a beet salad and a cup of clam chowder. Well when the food arrived my boys burger had cheese on it and nothing else. I did not get any ketchup or hot sauce (as I had tater tots I didn't think that would have been a huge leap in logic) I had to grab my own ketchup and hot sauce when we asked for my sons burger to be amended he did so begrudgingly and it came back with the cheese off and bbq sauce (small miracle) but again no lettuce. I would think if you so clearly got it wrong the first time you would make sure it was right the second time. I had to all but beg for a refill of my $5 coffee and when the bill came my son got charged for a full sized cider, my wife got charged for a full bowel of soup, and a full salad. My sandwich was good however my wife clam chowder had several bites with sand in it (clearly not fully cleaned clams). It truly is a pity as my wife and I were married at Edgefield I go to crystal ball room all the time and I frequent many of the other McMenamins establishments all the time. The decor at Gearhart is wonderful the food normally is delicious, but the service is atrocious. We will NEVER go back there again (much to the pleasure of the wait staff for it seemed as if we were demonized as the bad patrons that were looking for thing to complain about). We just wanted good food at a place we knew and loved after having a memorial for my wife's father. Such a shame, and shame on you Gearhart McMenamins for have such shoddy customer service!

Yelp
We selected McMenamin's for our October 2016 wedding due to the all-inclusive nature of their packages, and the excellent value that it is. My brother had gotten married a few years back at a McMenamin's, so we knew that the packages that they offer really streamline the wedding planning process. We chose the Gearhart location for a few reasons: We love the Oregon Coast, my husband loves to golf, and their 18 room hotel seemed like a perfect and intimate size for our medium-sized wedding. Initially, the communication with the venue was a little spotty, but then Elisha and Susan came on board and were very professional and accommodating. We knew it was a gamble trying to get married on the coast in October and have an outdoor ceremony, but as we got closer to the wedding date, it was clear the coast was in for a huge storm. Unfortunately, we were not able to get married on the beautiful lawn, but the staff were flexible right up until the very last minute, still leaving an outdoor ceremony as an option in case of a sudden weather change. The wait-staff and bar-staff were excellent and efficient and kept the night moving along smoothly. Hotel staff were also very accommodating due to the bad weather, and McMenamin's comped our room for the night which was very generous. After the reception shut down at 11 pm, the Sand Trap pub stayed open until 1 am so it was a nice spot for an after-party for our guests. (We also hung out there with wedding guests after our rehearsal dinner) We meant to book the entire hotel with our guests, but we had a lot of people book condos across the street as well, as that seemed to work better for families, etc. Unfortunately, there were a few rooms in the hotel that were unbooked by our guests and so got rented out to other people. I saw a review by one of them that weekend that were not very pleased with our loud wedding festivities, but that can only mean we threw a hoppin' party right?!?!
