First time on the island - was told this was the spot for dinner -shout out to Taylor who made this experience amazing - from charging my phone, to chatting with me and answering all my silly questions about island living. Food selection was a little light. I had apps two crab cakes and brussels sprouts. Husband had meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Both meals were very tasty. Meatloaf was very tender! View was beautiful - plenty of wildlife to watch while enjoying your meal. Photo is a view from right near the restaurant.

It is our first time to Roche Harbor and McMillin’s did not disappoint! Amy in the bar was fantastic. Our drinks were so delicious and the conversation was 10/10. Then we ate in the restaurant a couple of hours later and the service was above and beyond! Sarah completely took care of us from greeting us and suggesting a fabulous wine that was exactly what we were looking for to recommending a place for lunch the next day. One of our items did not come out as expected and she immediately took care of it with grace. I was so appreciative of her and we can’t wait to come back!

I hadn't been here in years, so when I came here to celebrate my engagement and birthday, I was hoping it would be just as good as I remember. Happy to report that from start to finish the experience was even better than I could have imagined. Friendly greeting at the door, a table with an incredible view overlooking the harbor, and promptly greeted by our server (gah I can't remember her name, but she was AMAZING). We had apps (crab bisque, beef empanadas), entrees (filet mignon, lamb chops), cocktails (pear martini, old fashioned), and dessert (cheesecake). Everything we ordered was beautifully plated, nicely cooked, and packed with flavor; Bill Shaw is a master of his craft. We were able to watch the sunset over the harbor (including the Colors ceremony) from our table. Our server even took us out to a deck to take photos of us. The whole experience was 10/10. Cannot recommend this place enough.

We celebrated my friend's birthday on June 22nd. After we arrived, we were seated promptly and received a table with a nice view at the window. Jose was our server that evening. We ordered cocktails; unfortunately, I had to send back mine, as it wasn’t what I expected. We ordered different appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Our evening was pleasant until we finished dinner and left the restaurant. Halfway to the car, I had to turn back to the restaurant because my stomach wasn’t feeling good at all. I stopped in the restroom with a terrible case of diarrhea for a while. Shortly after arriving home, I started vomiting, so I had food poisoning. This ruined our evening. We had dinner here while staying at the resort and it absolutely did not disappoint. Our server, Jodi, was a pleasure and provided us with the most excellent service. Everything we had here was delicious, the calamari really sticks out in mind as well as the fresh oysters. The view is absolutely stunning at sunset, so book your reservation for then if you can. This whole area is so special and charming that I hope it stays frozen in time forever. I will definitely dine here again the next time I am at the resort.

We ordered two salmon meals $55 each - and were told it was sustainably farmed salmon from New Zealand, not fresh Salmon. It was not served with green beans and cauliflower, and fingerling potatoes as it said on the menu, but with 5 spears of grilled but stringy squishy soft asparagus, mashed potatoes so salty with butter they were inedable, and undercooked very bland salmon. The herb sauce was good. Very disappointing. We have had fine meals here in the past, this was not one of them.

Honestly, just a fabulous meal from before I arrived until after I left. It was a special weekend with my birthday and my girlfriend’s birthday and a proposal. So many things. The chef made us a special appetizer, the halibut was flawless and the steak was perfectly crusted. The staff went above and beyond. Just a great night. While I am not from the island, I hope to return one day for another meal at McMillin’s Dining Room.

Google
Literally the best meal I have had in years. We were a party of six and got a bit of everything. Not only was it cooked to perfection but the flavors were unmatched. We were visiting from Orlando, FL and this place ran circles around many of the fine dining places we visit at home. The calamari was incredible, wagyu steak and lobster was buttery and cooked PERFECT, blackberry cobbler was better than any cobbler I've ever had. Someone in our party got the halibut and if we werent leaving early tomorrow to go back home, I would have ordered one to go.

Kay S.

Yelp
The atmosphere and views were amazing! The hostess and servers were top notch! The best calamari ever! Highly recommend!

Tammy E.

Yelp
Excellent food. Superb service. Walk-in dining available in the lounge section! I came here for dinner my first night in town as I was enticed by a seafood pappardelle on the menu. I'm so glad I made the trek from town and then through the hotel grounds to find the entrance. It was worth it! The blue cheese salad was a great appetizer, and the seafood pappardelle pasta was absolutely perfect. I can't wait to return. This place was completely full and they only had one bartender making all the drinks for the entire restaurant, but she handled it like a pro. This team worked seamlessly together - great work!

Maryann S.

Yelp
We had a great experience at McMillin's. Nestled on top of Roche Harbor, the restaurant overlooks the water and docked boats. We had the baked scallops as an appetizer, they were delicious. I had the special, the pasta was hand pulled and the scallops were seared well. My partner had the salmon, which was also fantastic. We would recommend!

Christina S.

Yelp
The salmon was incredible, and the waitress (Leslie from NJ) was lovely. Highly recommend.

Denice R.

Yelp
I don't know why this restaurant wasn't on everybody's lips when we asked where to get a great meal while on Friday Harbor. The marina location is lovely even at night. The staff have been friendly and welcoming. The food has delighted. While on the spendy side for those of us with limited discretionary cash, it's worthy of a splurge for those with budgets. If you go during the day, you'll be around a lot of people milling around. Evenings in Autumn and Winter are a calmer experience. If time allows, definitely give a visit.

Joan F.

Yelp
We had an exceptional dinner here in mid October. First of all, it's classically beautiful inside with tiered tables so each table has a stunning view of the harbor and marina. The service was exquisite--friendly, professional, and sincere. She also gave us a few tips for our next day hike on Stuart Island (she was absolutely right about Turn Point Lighthouse). The food was outstanding--beginning with the crispy Brussels sprouts. Perfection ( if only my mother had prepared Brussels sprouts this way, I would have been a fan decades ago). My autumn salad was delicious--the pecans added crunch and girth. My husband's prime rib was remarkable and managed to feed him for two more dinners on the boat. I can't praise McMillan's enough. It's one of the best restaurants I've enjoyed in a long time. When we're back in Roche Harbor next year, we'll return hungry.

Esther A.

Yelp
This place was so beautiful and fancy and I had very high hopes. I ordered one of their daily specials - the scallops with risotto and a pomegranate sauce. My biggest struggle with the dish was that everything was SO sweet. It didn't have any savory or spicy notes at all to break through the pomegranate sauce. It tasted like dessert.

Susan H.

Yelp
We decided to give McMillans another chance. Along with two other couples we had dinner at McMillans on August 6th. We had made reservations. When we arrived our table was ready. the wait staff was beyond wonderful. They were prompt, pleasant and efficient. We couldn't have had better service. We all ordered different entrees. Each was cooked to perfection. We also all ordered Maytag Blue Cheese salad and we all ordered deserts. Every part of our meal was perfect in every detail. We can definitely recommend McMillans in the future.

Joni B.

Yelp
Waitstaff and hostess were amazing! Food was great, especially the calamari starter. We were there 2 different nights, and each experience was fabulous. Also the views and atmosphere were great and welcoming!!

James M.

Yelp
Ordered the waygu burger asked for it to be well done it was like a piece of charcoal. Well done does not mean burned to a crisp. Sun Mountain lodge move over there is now a worse burger. Very over priced. Bleu cheese salad was good. Beer out of a can it was served with 3"of foam. Server did not know how to pour. Very over priced and they have the gumption to add a service charge to boot. Will not be going there again. You would think going to Roche Harbor that the food would be better nope I would not serve this to a rat.

Kenneth C.

Yelp
We came twice this weekend, but have been regulars over the years. Why are you guys so reliable? We love the service and the food always arrives hot and delicious. We can't say that about most of the restaurants we frequent in our home town. We always look forward to coming and hope to continue for another 25 years!

tony L.

Yelp
Still not as good as it used to be, unfortunately. The portions have shrunk and the quality of the service is significantly degraded. The prime rib is the shining star along with the desserts. The rhubarb is quite good. If you can get past slow and unexcited service, the tastes are great. The location is hard to beat, with a terrific dining room. The old windows were replaced a while ago and it's improved the view.

Sam P.

Yelp
Amazing food - everything we tried was perfectly made. Big plus for having a kids menu, especially one that goes beyond the usual chicken tenders and Mac and cheese. Service was good and we had no trouble getting a seat without a reservation on a Sunday evening.

A H.

Yelp
Best king salmon ive ever had. The vegetables had amazing flavor also and it was a beautiful presentation. My husband said it was one of the best steaks he had eaten. Expensive yes, but you get what you pay for which is quality. I would recommend going at sunset and getting a window view if possible. They do the flag ceremony at sunset and its fun to watch. The food also came out very quickly and our waiter was very nice and quick with service. I even forgot my camera after we left and our waiter came running outside to catch us, and he had to run a ways because we were already by the tunnel with the plants. Thank you again if you read this! You deserve a raise!

Rodney B.

Yelp
Taylor made all the arrangements for our big "Executive Room" birthday event at McMillian so easy. Communication was great and the evening went perfect. Thanks you. Lauren took outstanding care of our entire group and the room. Lauren made sure no one ever wanted for anything. She kept the evening and event flowing the whole time. What a team. Thank you as always Roche Harbor, and bigger thanks to Taylor and Lauren who really made it happen!

Amy C.

Yelp
Wonderful!! I'm a Seattle local and I've had my share of fresh salmon my entire life. Had possibly the best salmon of my life at McMillan's tonight. Fresh, soft, not fishy at all! Not the case at SJI Brewery a few days ago. The muchroom en croute appetizer is unbelievably flaky and delicious! We all remember it from last year. Do yourself a favor and order a few of those. The local oysters on the half shell were very fresh. We had the butterscotch pot a crème and cheesecake dessert. Perfection! Jodi was our server and just perfect. Thank you!

Brandy R.

Yelp
Best restaurant on the island! The service was absolutely incredible. Every dish we ordered was so flavorful and the presentation was stunning. The view of the water was just beautiful. If you are looking for a special night out, skip the other places and go here. Can't say enough good things about it!

Mark M.

Yelp
Last night on the island and we wanted to go to a nice dinner. A couple of local guys recommended McMillan's so we decided to give it a shot. Very good choice! To start out, reservations are recommended. When we got there we were met by a very friendly and professional staff. Our waitress was amazing and right on point in her service of our table. We went with the oysters which came with a tasty vinaigrette and a cocktail sauce. All so good! My partner had the dungeness crab bisque. Which was also amazing! We shared a delicious and refreshing spring salad. For dinner I had the tenderloin steak and lobster hash. It was so delicious and decadent. The tenderloin was cooked spot on to medium rare, the hash had a butter on top and was amazing! My girlfriend had the scallops which also was full of flavor. If your on San Juan Island looking for an upper end dinner this spot is perfect for you?

Rô M.

Yelp
D-lish! Amazing service, hands down. The staff were so personable and pleasant. The restaurant is overlooking the bay in Roche Harbor, I don't think it could have been more picturesque in the night sky and shimmering lights. I had the Mushroom en croute as an appetizer - chef's kiss. For my entree I had the seafood ravioli. This is unlike anything you have ever had before. It was amazing. Three layers of seafood and spinach in thin layers of pasta drizzled in the most delicious Meyers Lemon cream sauce.

Andrea U.

Yelp
We went in person to get a dinner reservation for later on the day. McMillin's views are supposed to be spectacular. Unfortunately we did not have a window water view, we were in the back facing the kitchen . We started with the Maytag blue cheese salad which was exceptional & oysters Roosevelt. The olive bread was a dessert. We shared a thick cut a 10 hr roasted prime rib McMilan cut with mashed potatoes as a main course. Dinner was exceptional, Jose was on point very on point, Our dinner at McMillan's was memorable!

Ken V.

Yelp
A long-time visitor warned us "it's not what it used to be..." Not having a history to draw from, I can only speak of my first experience. And I feel good about sharing five stars for setting, service, menu and ingredients. Their signature prime rib was excellent. One of our group ordered the blackened version.... wonderful! My halibut was well sourced, firm in texture, and well presented. Drinks, both alcoholic and otherwise, fit in perfectly. And the early evening light on the harbor was beautiful. Yes...this Island Pricey. But, for me, worth the expense.

Callie M.

Yelp
It was just ehh. The food was nothing to rave about. The menu was confusing when it came to the streaks. My husband ordered what he thought was a special and it came out as prime rib (he's not a fatty steak guy) they were nice enough to exchange it but it was another fatty steak they exchanged for. The flavor was fine but he didn't eat half of it. The burger flavor was good but the meat was chewy. I wouldn't order it again. The dessert was delicious. The crème brûlée came with a vanilla, lavender, and espresso. The lavender was surprisingly good and perfect portion to not be overwhelming. They were nice enough to give us a little comp on the food as well so overall didn't have to pay too much but I wouldn't return.

Martin R.

Yelp
This is a tourist trap and here is why. The oysters on the halfshell were great, however, the $57 "dry aged rib eye" not so much. It was overcooked, had no flavor, previously frozen, and definitely not dry aged. The side of "local" mushrooms not fresh either. Of note, every second interaction with the server was an attempt to upsell...."do you want to get a salad or soup while you wait in between your appetizer and the steak..." and same routine around dessert, coffee, liquors you name it. The martini was fine but hard to tell if it was made with the advertised brand vodka or generic well. No beer on tap; the beer can served warmer than the table water. I picked this place for location and ambiance and gave it a chance despite the low rating....but Yelp was right once again.

Eric s.

Yelp
On our last night on San Juan Island for our last 30th anniversary dinner we found this gem. Only 20 minutes from Friday Harbor, tucked away in Roche Harbor is this great restaurant. Beautiful atmosphere, staff friendly, scenery is nice, and food was wonderful. Oysters were delicious, blue cheese salad was great, however, the charred prime rib and baked potatoe...amazing! This steak melted in our mouths it was one if the best I have had. This was a great ending to our wonderful stay. Props go out to our waiter Jose, he was one very professional hard working employee and he knew his stuff. Especially having to deal with the jerk that sat next to us. This guy was loud, rude to whoever he was sitting with (wife I assume), swore "F" bombs towards her, was belittling, and I know our table wasn't the only ones that could hear it. All I have to say is the waiter, whether he knew it or not how this patron was acting, handled it well. Other than that unexpected entertainment...it was wonderful. Thank you to all your staff.

Julia G.

Yelp
This had an excellent view! The location was very convenient since we were staying at the hotel. Menu is as a bit "old school" in certain ways but very delicious and decadent. We enjoyed splitting the crab bisque and the insanely large shrimp stuff with crab. Since everything was a bit rich, this was more than enough for two! Wine list was okay but I wasn't too excited with either of the whites we had.

Tim M.

Yelp
Got the chance to visit here during a recent mini-vacation and was treated to a nice dinner. We also managed to snag a table overlooking the harbor and timed it just right to watch both the sunset and the Colors Ceremony. I'll start with the decor, it's a little dated and on the dark side. This is gonna be my one and only real complaint and the one thing nicking that last star. It could use an update, but I'm sure they are trying to maintain that historic vibe. Your mileage may vary. We started off with the Crab Stuffed Scallops and Crispy Calamari. Both are amazing, I'd recommend either one and will look forward to a chance to have these again. I know they are known for their Prime Rib, but I'm not really a prime rib kind of guy, plus I don't get the opportunity to have seafood at home so I settled on the Salmon, served with Potatoes and Broccolini. Amazing dish, very flavorful, perfectly cooked salmon. I got to cap this meal off with a Key Lime Pie. Anyone that has read my reviews knows, if I see Key Lime Pie, I stop right there, you don't even need to read the rest of the menu, I'm not even listening. Now, that doesn't mean that I always enjoy every key lime pie, the bar is pretty high. This was a great key lime pie, perfectly tart, perfectly bold. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes their sweets on the tart side. Let's talk about the staff. Very friendly, very personable, very attentive. Our waiter was amazing, really took the time to understand what we were after, discussed wines with the great at length, went over menu offerings in detail, very excellent service all night. All in all, this was a great meal and a great experience, setting aside the dated decor. I'll look forward to a time when I can return here.

Nicole V.

Yelp
Top notch. Came here for my dads birthday dinner with family. We are from out of town but they live out here. Ambiance was great, staff was friendly and professional and everything we ate was delicious and they certainly don't skimp on the portions! Drinks were very strong and delicious. We also brought our own cake and they were nice enough to bring it out with candles and cut it for us. Reservation required!

Cathy R.

Yelp
We've eaten here a couple times and every time it's amazing. We always sit in the bar. The bartender was from Reno, and she makes a GREAT martini, with ice crystals floating. That's how every martini should be made! We both had the burger which was amazing and cooked to order. We also got the Bibb salad, and the ahi tuna appetizer. Both had great flavors. I highly recommend this place

A D.

Yelp
GREAT FOOD! A few issues with receptionist, but luckily Bonnie was there and exhibited good common sense and was interested in making customers feel comfortable. Thank you Bonnie and John!

Rayma K.

Yelp
Okay, so to start off. Appetizers: They we're die for!!! The crab stuffed scallops were absolutely amazing! If I could I would have ordered 4 plates of these. All the flavors tied in so well together! The Oysters on a half shell so fresh! The crab soup was good too, but it wasn't my favorite. Entree: Now this is the part were I was disappointed. My entree, i ordered the special. The special was a Prawn and Scallops, with some noodles. The meal was pricey, and I was disappointed that the scallops were tough, rubbery texture, the noodles appeared to be reheated. I only ate the prawns. I did tell our waiter with the French accent. He was very kind and attentive, he did say desert was on the house. I declined, I just wanted to get back home since had flown in from the night before. Overall, 3 only because I had high expectations. I'm sure this was probably just a fluke. I just had some high expectations.

Anna H.

Yelp
Couldn't find a reason to complain if I tried. The service, the food, drinks and ambiance all strive to be stellar and they're winning. I HIGHLY recommend the shishito peppers, salmon and for the love of joy in your life; TRY THE CRÈME BRÛLÉE SAMPLER!!! It's frickin outstanding.

Jennifer Z.

Yelp
We went there for dinner in mid December. It was quiet. We like the view, the drinks and the food there, will definitely come back.

Mike U.

Yelp
This is a good one! For starters we had the Maytag blue cheese salad & oysters Roosevelt. Both were exceptional as well as their olive bread. We shared a thick cut a roasted prime rib McMilan cut with mashed potatoes as a main course. A little more formal than other restaurants on San Juan Island. Jose our waiter made very good (maybe too good) recommendations. He obviously knew the menu and the food served here.

Dave T.

Yelp
There's a great view and the food is fantastic! The servers are always really nice and do a great job. I don't know how they got the Chef in this remote area but they need to keep him. I can't say enough about the food.

Her M.

Yelp
Surprisingly good! Given its location I thought this place would just be a tourist trap, but no! The menu was great! Everyone on staff was so kind and welcoming. Our server (Leslie?) was a professional and was able to easily manage all of the different personalities at our table. We received our drinks, appetizers, main course and dessert all in a timely manner. And not a bad table in the house. The sunset view is gorgeous.

Rose N.

Yelp
It IS expensive but the food and service are great. I think Juan was our server and could not have been more knowledgeable or professional. We both had their meatloaf...too much to eat! There is no skimping on portions. Beautiful surroundings too.

D J.

Yelp
The classiest fine dining experience on San Juan Island. A bit pricey, but the quality, service and views easily compensate for that. I highly recommend for special occasions or that date you really want to impress.

freckles a.

Yelp
Ordered the prime filet which was grilled perfectly! The baked mac & cheese was too rich for my taste but it was good. I wish there was a green veggie option as a side dish. Our server was good but the front of the house staff was meh (which is what affected the 5 star to 4 star). The view was beautiful!

Jan K.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed this Restaurant..would HIGHLY recommend.

Sydney B.

Yelp
Amazing food. Amazing Views. Amazing Service. GO HERE NOW!!! Jose was a great server, very friendly and provided excellent service!

Greg F.

Yelp
An evening to spend alone in the islands after a noon hour presentation to local healthcare providers. Staying at the new Quarrymans Complex at Roche Harbor resort. Dining alone always feels odd but I was respectfully managed to a window seat overlooking the harbor and moored vessels. From the start of my dining experience a well polished but genuine personality engaged me in light but relevant dialog. Offering drinks and even being willing to "just surprise me" without fanfare or frivolity. From a simple "non-alcoholic" request developed a fun beverage that was bright but well accompanied the meal. I had the Maytag Blue Salad and learned of the "Maytag brothers." A story you need to look up tot believe. Iowa? Was it? The Evening Special was the Blackened Sockeye with Spaghetti Squash. Simply wonderfully warm and homey in satisfying the hunger and softening the cold looking ripples from the fall breeze on the water. As an ending treat another recommendation was spot on! Cobbler of blackberries and peaches with ice cream. I can't remember a more completely satisfying meal. I can remember many very fine and remarkable meals. This one was just completely right! Thanks wonder-server and food chooser. I would not have wanted it any other way. Sometimes I just want to eat great food alone without feeling all...lonely and felt-sorry-for. You didn't and I wasn't. Thanks.

Philippe D.

Yelp
The remodeling of the dining room is superb... finally! Now you have AC and nice windows with view of the marina. New wine cellar on the right as you enter. New bathrooms. Well a great place for a nice experience. The food menu is as usual: great selection of meat: the prime rib is a must! Fishes and seafood are always a great choice too. Had the sole and the tomato salad with crab, which were great. However the sole was with a "beurre blanc": it was more butter that a real beurre blanc: emulsion with vinegar and/or wine, and shallots. Disappointing! Our waiter (Samil) was great: professional, courteous and great humor

Sim J.

Yelp
Enjoyed their crispy calamari strips and crab cakes! The prime rib - their specialty - was also pretty good. We got a seat on the heated patio, which was lovely at sunset. The only downside was that our prime rib dish came out before our appies and the mashed potatoes were really cold so it felt like it had been sitting out for a while and likely was meant for another party. The waitress was really good about taking care of it though! Super busy place - make sure to make reservations if you can.

Nichole D.

Yelp
Fabulous food and service! Such a fantastic little spot in Roche Harbor for a fun romantic evening with a view of the marina.

Sara W.

Yelp
Between the service and the food we don't have a bad thing to say! We ordered the calamari, oysters, scallops and crab, Caesar salad and blue cheese salad. All of the food was delicious and our waitress was super friendly and helpful with the menu. Our table looked out over the harbor and complete our experience. I look forward to going back next time we visit Roche.

Kathrine P.

Yelp
Whew okay- have not felt the need to write a bad yelp review in years but had such a bad time I felt implored to write this. First let me say- if you want to feel safe during covid- this is not the place for you. There are many guests and employees not wearing masks or abiding by social distancing. If you're into that - you're in luck! First of all, we made a reservation at the fine dining restaurant and thought that menu would be available to us. It was not- the bar and grill menu was. Additionally it took SO LONG to be greeted, to get water, to get drinks, to get food and to get a check. It was a Monday night? Very confusing. Our server was sweet but our water was constantly empty, and we received one wrong entree. My husbands prime rib was a terrible cut of meat. We ordered dessert which took about 40 minutes to get to us and it was a chocolate cake that tasted like a dessert one would get at Applebee's/ worse than what someone would get at a chain restaurant. The tables surrounding us ALSO had issues with their food. We heard them. The bizarre thing is that a manager NOT ONCE went to any table to ask how things were. Problems aside- at most fine dining restaurants you frequently see a FOH manager hitting tables and seeing how everyone is doing. ESPECIALLY if there is an issue. Truly have not been to such a clearly poorly managed restaurant with a kitchen this terrible in a long time! Congrats! Really regretted not popping into Friday Harbor and getting something there or honestly heating up a frozen meal- it would have saved us a decent chunk of change.

Keith M.

Yelp
First time visit and it did not disappoint! Great overall service especially from Jose. What was the house prime rib with World famous au jus and horseradish sauce Paired with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus chopped off does with dessert = The berry cobbler ice cream in a cup of coffee. Absolute heaven on earth!

Mike S.

Yelp
This is Roche Harbor, if you are in Roche Harbor you have to go to the original bar. It is not going to be a deal, but the place is 100+ years old, people are dressed up, and you can just feel the history in the room. We got there at 3:30pm so sat in the bar, had a couple drinks and appetizers and went on. Nothing too extreme, but I hopefully get the privilege of going back. It is Roche Harbor! Kinda like the Catalina Wine Mixer, you have to go back!

John J.

Yelp
My wife and I had a tremendous experience here the last week of September. We did not have a reservation but were able to get a table in the bar. Our server was outstanding -- friendly and very knowledgeable about the food offerings. Treat yourself to the crab stuffed scallops appetizer. Then, dig in for a their Prime Rib. A very satisfying experience.
