We’ve just returned from our second family stay at the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga, and once again, dining at Me-Gal was an absolute highlight. Nestled above the retreat, the restaurant offers panoramic views of Sydney Harbour, the Opera House, and the city skyline, creating a magical backdrop for our meal.
The menu is a celebration of native Australian ingredients and sustainable produce. We shared dishes like the 12-hour slow-roasted Flinders Island lamb shoulder with heirloom carrots, lime, and mint, and the butterflied whole chicken with Geraldton wax and pickled muntries, each bursting with flavor and beautifully presented.
The wine list is exclusively Australian, featuring selections from renowned producers such as Henschke, Penfolds, Yabby Lake, Grosset, Leeuwin Estate, and Oakridge. The wines, many of which are vegan, organic, biodynamic, and sustainable, were expertly paired with our meal, enhancing each course.
The staff were attentive and warm, going the extra mile to personalize our experience. For instance, they added a birthday chocolate plaque to our dessert, making the celebration even more special.
Dining at Me-Gal was more than just a meal; it was an immersive experience that complemented the unique setting of the Wildlife Retreat. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in Sydney.
