The higher end branch of Meander, 1948 also has a mix of guests, including Western travelers and locals transiting between the airport and the train station. 1948 is about a third the size of the Ximending site capacity.
Located on floors 2 to 4, the reception desk is actually located within the cafe on the ground floor.
The rooms and facilities are clean and well maintained, with excellent ventilation and air conditioning. The beds use mattresses, not foam mats.
The common room is located on the fourth floor and relatively small, there is only one coffee table and a single sofa, however there are plenty of floor cushions. There are only two dining tables and seating with electrical is limited, unless you bring extended cords. Though the space is less conducive for digital nomads, it does provide a cozy area forcing people together.
Above the common room is a cargo net loft, for relaxing or reading.
The balcony overlooks the street, however smoking is not allowed. There are washing machines and dryers located outside the kitchen.
The open kitchen is immediately next to the common room and is serviced by a toaster oven, an induction plate and a coffee machine which uses free coffee beans.
All in all this is a solid 4 star facility, above average and aside from the limited working space, met all my expectations. however as an executive backpacker, I have experienced 5 star facilities, where the fifth star would be given to the common room or included breakfast.
