Mixed Experience – Beautiful but Risky for Some If you’re a seasoned hiker with the right footwear, this trail has the potential to be a great day out. However, previous reviews didn’t mention some key safety concerns: many of the boardwalks are uneven, loosely secured, or even missing in parts—with significant drops if you slip off. We had hoped to bring along our active and healthy 80-year-old parents, but quickly realized this wasn’t suitable without proper gear or support. We turned back after 20 minutes out of caution. That said, the views are absolutely breathtaking when you can pause to take them in. I’d return on my own to complete the full trail—just with better preparation next time.

Absolutely stunning. We stayed at lone cone doing hosted camping and it was an incredible experience. Bioluminesent water, incredible night skies, canoeing, paddleboarding, hiking and camp fires. We will definitely be back.

Our 3rd time to visit the island and it's always new... they've built a dock finally so you no longer have to climb onto the rocks

Yelp
We came across this little Island of Ancient Cedars on a visit to Tofino. It's a 10 min boat ride from downtown Tofino. We used Tofino Water Taxis and the operator was super nice. Call ahead to make a reservation, he meets you at the dock and takes you to the Island and drops you off and you can tell him what time you want to be picked up. It's $30 per person and we got dropped off by the boardwalk. The sceneic ride is a treat in itself, then we arrive at a small dock and the boardwalk is made up of cut up cedar logs! It can be a little tricky for older people to navigate as it's roughly hewn especially if it's raining, which it was when we came to visit. The trail itself isn't difficult and takes 1 1/2 hrs if it's nice out and you want to take your time to explore. We took 1 hr to get to the Hanging Tree and back to the dock because it was pouring rain. The base of that tree is 18.3 m circumference and about 42.7 metres high! There are two Ancient cedars that are hallow and so big you can fit inside and look around! Don't forget to pose by the 'Tree of Life' it's about 1800 yrs old!
