From my 10 year old daughter: Meat Cove campground is the best campground ever! It has a beautiful view of the tree covered mountains cascading in to the never ending Atlantic Ocean. The gorgeous sunrise will leave you breathless and if it’s your lucky day you might catch some whales jumping in to the morning waves. Rhonda and Patti (hosts) are super cool, nice and amazing! They’re the best! The beach is a great place to take a nap, relax and enjoy your day. Here is what other kids guests think: « Great, Awesome, nice! I loves swimming in the Atlantic Ocean with my brother. Plus there’s a beautiful view a the top of Meat Cove mountain. » - Capri « I loved the sunrise and the cabins are beautiful. » - Coast « I loved looking at the beautiful mountain view, the ocean is very refreshing and the host’s are very nice and funny. » - Lucy So if your looking for a tranquil spot with a beautiful view and to have awesome memories. Come to Meat Cove camping!!! - Alice

A bit of a drive. Roads aren’t perfect but fine for any kind of vehicle pretty much. Beautiful view around corners and many twists and turns. A bit busy in the summer. But stunning, breathtaking vistas. Good to know what we have here in Canada to see. I felt like is was in Ireland. Or even Norway with some of the views. Well worth the time to go out there and check this out. Bring your camera!!! No restaurants or bathroom facilities that I could see. There is a campground at the end of the end of the road. Pretty epic views there! I wouldn’t take a big rig in there. Truck campers. Vans. Class B or C rigs shouldn’t have too much trouble.

Stunning location, great staff with sunset and sunrise views. Could have spent much longer there, esp with the lobster food truck. Some dirt road on the way in, nearest shop about 10-15 mins away; so very peaceful around the campground!

Incredible campsite. Stadium seating sites that overlook a pretty bay. Super friendly owners and an awesome lobster roll food truck. Can't recommend this special place more!!

Rented the RV named Northern Sunrise with the hot tub on the deck overlooking the beach. It was amazing, everything was clean and the owner was so friendly. A must see place to stay. If you have the chance do the "Little Grassy" hiking trail but be prepard as it is a steepish climb but very worth it.

Wonderful place! The staff were incredibly helpful! The washrooms appeared recently renovated, they were very clean, and the showers pretty spacious. There is hiking available where we were up the mountainside and had the opportunity to see wales--from the trail! The night-sky was simply stunning (no light pollution so I could star gaze for hours!) Quiet, peaceful, spot. The road to get to it had some steep inclines and there were some big potholes in some of the gravel sections, but it was totally worth it!! Just take the drive down slow.

Stayed at the guesthouse with my family (two adults, three kids) for five nights and had a great time. The guesthouse has spacious living space and the kids loved the rocky beach and hot tub. We drove to a great sandy beach about 25 minutes away, and apparently there is one closer. There was a fun hike that my 8yo loved. We had an amazing time and would highly recommend staying there! The family that runs it is very helpful and accommodating and even let us change our reservation while there. Only considerations are: you are at a beautiful remote location, but it’s still “busy” because it’s a big campground and the road in is intense, so only book as long as you want to be there, don’t use it as a base for going into the national park (which is why we adjusted our reservation time)

We were apprehensive bringing our 25' Class C all the way up the road to find out whether or not there were sites - 1. The road was a bit bumpy but not obnoxious and certainly passable (gorgeous vies all the way). 2. There are 3-4 spots that are suitable for rigs about our size - MAYBE up to 30'. We came at the end of September and were greeted with flat water and a gorgeous sunny morning - it did get windy and rainy overnight but we felt comfortable perched cliffside. We enjoyed lobster rolls at reasonable rates from the food truck on site (closes at 6PM). To a short walk up to the nearby bluff for astounding views overs the camp site and coastline. For our RV, I was skeptical as to whether or not we were doing the right thing but it definitely was! Meat Cove Road is part paved and part unpaved with some seriously steep bits and tight curves but take your time and go for it! Proprietors were friendly, introduced themselves to every party and took the time to help us pick the perfect spot. A+++

Yelp
The person who suggested this place said it was "an absolute must", they did not steer us wrong! This was a serious highlight for us. We rented a cabin. This is very basic, it includes mattresses without bedding and a place to plug in phones, but no electricity or lighting. The mattresses are very thin, supported by a wood frame. My boyfriend likes firm so that was good for him, if you like soft like me you might want to bring a pad. The cabin was clean. There is also a camper to rent or tent spaces. Bathroom facilities are a little walk and they have hot water for showers too. There is a seafood food truck. There is a beach, and hiking trail, but the real magnificence is the view. Seriously, take this advice: wake up early to see the sunrise. It made our whole trip.

Yelp
I asked an employee at the Markland coastal resort what is something you can see close by and quickly that is absolutely beautiful and she suggested Meat Cove. This was on the day on a wedding I was attending so only had the morning to explore. It was well worth it! It's amazing, I can't believe you can camp on the edge of a cliff! There's also a beach that you can go visit and a great restaurant. I kinda wish I got to camp here. The views are breathtaking.

Yelp
If you're looking for a memorable camping spot in north Cape Breton, this would be it. The views are incredible and there's a decent infrastructure in place. While there, we met interesting folks from California, Tennessee, BC. The road up is a good road, although a good portion of it is unpaved. I would not recommend it for a large RV, but smaller units or van setups would be fine.

Yelp
This is a first come first serve campground so make sure you get there a bit earlier than you would if you had a reservation. The Chowder Hit closes at 7pm as well but they will serve you and take your order right up until 7pm. Justin (the campground employee who checked me in) did a full walk through of the grounds so you know where the showers and bathroom are. He will also tell you when and where the sun will rise which was awesome as cell service is a bit spotty. After seeing this place online it was a must when doing Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

Yelp
I just got word a photo of mine from this campsite was selected for a Cape Breton Island tourism website. I checked here and couldn't believe I didn't have a review for what was one of my favorite (somewhat) secret camping sites EVER!!! At the tippy top of circling mountain roads, all with sweeping views of the Atlantic lies this amazing, seasonal, family-owned campground where the sunsets and sunrises are incredible, where whales can been seen with the naked eye right from your tent, where there's a beach below to play and swim, green lush hiking trails, and even a seafood shack serving up fresh lobster and cold beer. I mean, seriously....what more could you want?!! Oh, and it's a steal! $25 a night! This spot was so memorable and so incredibly special. The entire area is just gorgeous! While the site is pretty hidden in the hills above, it's not terribly far from other nature activities down below. We took a chartered boat out the following day and hit up the National Park the day prior to our stay. Meat Cove (hate the name) is situated on the northeastern most tip of Nova Scotia. It's super remote and takes a bit to get up and back from the top of the mountain where the campground is actually located. Past the paved roads are extremely winding, very narrow dirt only roads. I caution trailers and motorcycles and wouldn't recommend anyone driving to the site at night. When we stayed we just drove up without reservations in the summertime and were able to choose one of the 30 sites they have. I would at this point recommend calling first if you know when you'll be in the area to get a feel for availability, although I can't imagine the sweet staff turning anyone away. Whether you're an avid camper or a newbie, you will fall in love with this spot! I personally guarantee it! It's the most peacefully, quiet, untouched area. I would go back in a heartbeat and plan on it one day!

Yelp
Honestly the best lobster roll I have ever had. They have fresh, VERY fresh chilled lobster meat with some fixings added to a toasted bread roll, it was just superb. The view is absolutely unbeatable. It is the very top of Cape Breton (as far to the tip as you can drive anyway), and it really does feel like the edge of the world. There's also a beach for swimming near by accessible by a small path. The water was clean, the beach is pebble rocks though. If you're a rock stacker it will appeal though. A must do stop for those visiting the cape. It is fairly cheap but great quality, a far cry from some of the tourist traps you see along the way. As a side note, the family that runs the restaurant and campground is exceedingly nice. It was getting last and we pulled up when they were out of camp grounds. They were very kind and accommodated us with a campground on the hill further up for 10 dollars. It wasn't flat, but we were grateful not to have to drive back the dirt path in the dark. However a couple just after us got turned away since there was simply no more room. This isn't an open field with people littered about the grass, the campsites are carved into the mountainside over looking the cove. It seems to be very popular. Not a good place for RV's. I am thankful for that though as I find them annoying. There were no generator running either, which kept the view feeling very serene.

Yelp
Absolutely one of, if not THE, best spots I've ever camped. This place is a hidden gem. Really nice staff, food is good at the local restaurant, good prices on kayak rentals...the works. FULLY recommended go anyone in NS area or anyone looking for an excuse to be. Cape Breton National Park isn't far south if you want to circle back. Nice rocky beach just off the tent area, whales out in the bay. Just an absolute must...can't wait to return!

Yelp
I hopped in a car from North Carolina with a man who I had been dating for 5 months and we embarked on an adventure. Nova Scotia seemed like a good idea. To this day, we talk about this campsite as the best. Because it is. Meat Cove is pretty much the farthest you can get on Cape Breton Island on the Cabot Trail. The campsite opened in 1986, has juttings from the cliffs for 30 campsites ($25 a night) and trails leading to ocean views. According to their website, they also have camp cabins, running water, and hot showers. You can also kayak, but we went somewhere else for that. RVs are able to park, but I don't acknowledge them as a valid camping method. They have a restaurant, but I suggest you build a campfire and make whatever you want (we rocked chilli dogs) to watch the whales in the bay. I never saw anything like those whales with the sunrise and I probably never will again.

Yelp
Just to be clear this review is for the Oceanside Chowder Hut which I think is operated by the same people that run the campground. We didn't stay at the campground but after visiting this spot we just may come back because the scenery is beautiful. So after a long morning of hiking we were hungry and decided we needed to eat. I was craving some chowder and a lobster roll so we decided to try the chowder hut in Meat Cove since it was pretty close to where we had hiked. We ordered clams and fries, seafood chowder, and a lobster roll. The lobster roll was served on a toasted and buttered bun with lots of fresh chunks of lobster as well as some lettuce and chives mixed in. I tend to like my lobster rolls with more mayonnaise than this one but I didn't really mind since it was excellent. I would put it up there as one of the best lobster rolls I have had and at $13.95 I felt it was reasonably priced. The seafood chowder came in a styrofoam bowl served with a white roll. Unfortunately, the roll was slightly stale. As for the chowder, I prefer one that is thick and not soupy so it didn't let me down here. The chowder itself was hearty with a good serving of lobster, haddock, shrimp, scallops and potatoes in it. Overall, though, I rate it as okay since I found the broth pretty tasteless and it was served too hot. However, the fact that it is served in a styrofoam bowl contributes to the genuine "hut feel" of this spot. The clams and chips were not so good overall. Although they were reasonably priced at $12.99, they were disappointing. The clams were the grocery store kind made up of clam pieces and heavily battered. The only consolation was that the chips were well done. If we had just eaten lobster rolls this place would have gotten 5 stars.

Yelp
Gorgeous views, hard to get to on a motorcycle. But if you don't mind a dirt road and your not prissy about your motorcycle the best views. Apparently I heard there was great hiking as well, I didn't have a chance for this though. Btw this is the most northern town in all of Nova Scotia. It is a must for any camper. s
