Great place to enjoy a delicious BBQ. We tried the beef brisket and cherry ribs, both tender and tasty. The table had many sauces for dipping, all looked homemade. We also ordered the seasonal butternut squash side, which was perfectly baked and sweet. The house salad rounded out the meal. I was curious about the Meat Cesar drink. It's similar to a bloody mary with a slice of smoked sausage and pickle as the garnish. Very attentive service. Our water never dipped below the halfway mark.

Google
Sandwich of the day was Philly Brisket, an excellent Sandwich! Brisket was very tasty! Mac and Cheese was out of this world! Great fries! I loved the Cole Slaw! The bar-b-que sauces with superior! Better than any I have had anywhere else! Brisket bourbon Old Fashioned drink.... oh yeah!

Google
I was looking up restaurants recommendations while visiting Edmonton, and MEAT consistently came up on various lists, so we were excited to go while in the area. The restaurant is bright and spacious, and the service was excellent. We enjoyed everything we tried (brisket, ribs, sausage, chicken and waffles, mac n cheese, and cornbread), but in my opinion, the standouts were the ribs and chicken and waffles. They also have a large selection of beer and drinks, and the house made peach iced tea was good too. Overall, a delicious meal and a fun setting to dine in, so we're glad we got to try it before leaving Edmonton!

Google
I find myself here nearly every other weekend in the summer. Fantastic restaurant and easily my favorite place in the city. Pro tip: Bring a group (4+) and load up on a bunch of items and split the bill for the best value.

Google
I ordered the “meat platter” The pictures speak for themselves. The brisket was dried out, fried chicken was slightly burnt on the corner, the ribs were dry and crusty and that god awful pulled pork was incredibly tough and dried out. The smoked chicken had an almost pasty kind of seasoning on it, disgusting. After spending $100 very disappointed. Their only saving grace was the corn bread which turned out ok. *EDIT Based out of this business response, So you guys knowingly give out old food to takeout? And just throw up your hands and say just dine in for the “freshest” experience. I live 5 minutes by foot to your establishment there is no effing way that it dried out this much. I don’t know about being proud of your takeout program if you pump out burnt chicken and dried out meat thinking its okay. Shame! Don’t Order Here.

Google
I tried their beef brisket with a side of garlic fries and it was divine. I paired it with the spicy and cherry sauces that made it even more perfect. The service was very great and the server gives me good suggestions since it was my first time coming here. Although, i didn’t enjoy the cocktail called Blueberry Belle and ended up taking a few sips of it then gave up on drinking it, i enjoyed the overall experience at the restaurant.

Google
I ordered super meat platter and it was great.. every meat was seasoned well and was cooked perfectly also ordered house salad but quantity was low for the price of $19 and platter was $115 the quantity was good but was way too much for 2 people, good ambience and would definitely recommend..

Google
Open concept was great, The meat was completely separate from the vegetables and the meat platter was absolutely great for two people. Definitely going to come here again.

Yelp
Great BBQ and sides that are reasonably priced. Our group had cherry chili full racks - priced well at $26. Large Cajun fries were enough for four and side is coleslaw which was crispy and not overly dressed. Have had the dill pickle which is worth the $2. Large selection of bourbon and ales on tap. Their non alcoholic drinks are stellar. I had lemonade w ginger. Really delicious and not overly sweet. Servers always friendly and enthusiastic about the food. Not overly loud w all tables full by 7. Reservations not allowed so get there early. Lots of seating before 6 pm on Saturday. Only let down was the Mudpie - sad face. Looks great but cake itself was dry. Expecting a classic ice cream pie.

Yelp
Cool idea. Food is good generally. Somewhat salty or greasy in some cases. Service was good though a bit slow. Some menu items were not available. Parking in this part of town is always an issue. Ambiance is flat. Pretty loud when busy. Worth it to go again.

Yelp
My first visit here from the States. Great hospitality after we sat down, bench style tables for eating with great menu choices of meat. Quality meat product, cooked to perfect by an experience pitmaster. This is a creation that is equivalent and superior to many barbecue shops; this is one of the best BBQ restaurants both in presentation and taste. Edmonton, AB you have out did yourself! The customer service is top-notch. They pay attention to detail, from receiving your order to seeing that it is was prepared to your, liken. The sauces are generous provided at each table: Bourbon (the best), Cherry, Spicy and Mustard. Orders was a pound of each: Brisket Pull pork BBQ chicken Bake bean was not my favorite Cornbread Mac n cheese Kielbasa sausage Pecan pie for dessert w/ ice cream! They have outdoor seating in this downtown location. They are pricey but you get what you pay for so I'm not complaining!

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner while visiting Edmonton. Supper busy but got seated right away. Incredible food, best BBQ i had in a while. Recommendation is brisket and the sausage. Bourbon Caesar has a kick, not for the faint of heart. Pickles are BIG, and delicious. Probably made in house. Great place, highly recommended.

Tom W.

Yelp
Best BBQ brisket that I have had in a very long time. It was so juicy and flavourful - full of subtle hickory and cherry wood smoke notes. The one pound that I ordered just got gobbled up. The sauces are generous provided at each table: Bourbon (the best), Cherry, Spicy and Mustard. Use a little, use a lot! The cherry chili rib was lip smacking good - fully sauced and perfect in every way. Service was attentive and also made us feel comfortable. Meat is a perfect five star all around!

Ayoosh K.

Yelp
Came out during the holiday season and staff was friendly enough to seat us quick. Our server Hayley was great at the bar. Their meat options are limited to pork and beef. They do have 1 chicken item l, which I got and it tastes better with different bbq sauces. The 4 star is really for limited meat options given their name, I would expect some goat, lamb or even seafood. The cocktails are made well. They're placed right on Calgary trail by Whyte Ave, which makes it accessible to many other bars and restaurants. Cool place for casual or date night.

Andy L.

Yelp
I've been to MEAT a couple of times over the years and I have tried almost everything on the menu. The atmosphere is quite lively and the food is good and consistent. Their chicken has remained a favourite at this place and I'd rate them overall an 8.3/10

Yelp
Take pictures of the food, but none of it was worth posting pictures of this place was total disappointment. The real reason they got two stores was because they actually had a vegetarian/vegan menu, and the host upfront and the waitress were absolutely amazing. I expected so much more if I wasnt a nice person I would post a picture of the over cooked tiny half a slab of ribs. Which were by the way pretty cheap for a half slab of ribs but maybe you get what you pay for all said and done. My bill was about $100 so I did expect a little more. The quality of the food I received here very disappointing, but the waitress was absolutely amazing. I would give her name a shout out as well but unfortunately she works there, so I'm not recommending you go there even for her great service and attitude the the host who took our party down, was also great curly haired gentleman also doesn't deserve the work there overall wouldn't go back. Wouldn't recommend anybody to go until they figure out their food. The drink was very good. Unfortunately I didn't have enough to kill the taste of the food in my mouth. Very disappointing for my first restaurant on visiting Canada but I found better. Will post them soon.

Ying L.

Yelp
It was a quiet day during lunch so we got seated promptly and received our food pretty fast. However the food couldve been a bit warmer. The best part is always the fries - seasoned perfectly. The Mac n cheese was a bit watery and the pasta couldve been a bit more al dente.

Mikyung J.

Yelp
BBQ is juicy and delicious. Sandwich was good to try the brisket, too. The service was exceptional and excellent. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor patio. Good place!

Tien H.

Yelp
We came in a Friday night, very packed but got seated in roughly 20 minutes. The service here was okay, waiters didn't seem friendly or happy. We ordered the macaroni, chicken & waffles and pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork sandwich was a favourite while the chicken was a little dry, I'd say this is a must try but I feel like I wouldn't return

Cheryl P.

Yelp
Loved the vibe and the BBQ!!! My fav is the pork ribs!!! So good! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
While wandering around the Whyte Ave area for Art Walk. We decided to stop in to Meat for lunch. We have been several times previously and surprisingly I hadn't written up a review. As we walked past we noticed a coveted table on the patio was open. After a bit of confusion/coordination with the Host/Hostess, we were seated on the highly sought-after spot on the patio. Again some more confusion seemed to be with our server, who it seemed didn't realize that we were waiting for her. However once that was sorted, she was very good at her job and drinks were procured, food was ordered, and all of the normal business of being a patron at a restaurant was being conducted. When looking around I saw very few people with food on the patio, so was a bit concerned that we'd be in for a wait. But Nope ! Shortly after I made my observation, food at the other tables started arriving and then my lunch arrived ! I had ordered the Breakfast Sandwich, and my wife ordered the Biscuits and Gravy. Both were delish ! Overall, after the confusion of the staff, all was good ! Food, service and atmosphere. I like Meat and have not been disappointed in any of the above on this visit or prior visits.

Yelp
Easy to find via Google Maps but parking is a struggle if you go after 6PM. A friend came at 6PM and made a "reservation" for 18 people for 7PM as they do not take reservations. We were seated at 7:20PM at 2 side-by-side tables. Staff was very friendly and came by often to offer drink refills. Bathroom was 2 stalls in the womans but 1 of the stall doors does not lock. Place was Very busy at 7:20PM and it was very loud and I missed 20% of what my tablemates said all evening. I tried the Rosemary Peach Sweet Iced Tea for $5 and it was 10/10. Pretty sweet with a nice herby taste. Very happy with it (if not a tad overpriced). I tried the 'Beet' Mac. Very glad there was 2 beet patties as they were very thin but they were 9/10 good. Maybe just needed a little crunch and more salt. Bun was very soft and other condiments were good. Comes with regular fries but I opted to upgrade to Garlic Fries and was surprised when the bill came that that upgrade was only $1 more - VERY reasonable. Garlic Fries were not as good as I remembered but still 9/10 - a little cold and not as saucy as I had hoped. Boyfriend got the special of the day Beef Dip $19 and the Andouille Dirty Rice. Featured menu didn't say if that came with fries but on the bill he was only charged +$3 for the rice so I assume it did. Rice was quite spicy. He also tried the Jumbo Dill Pickle and it was just a Costco size dill pickle. Little disappointing and in my opinion overpriced. Overall I was much happier with my meal this visit. Quite expensive, busy, and loud but I would come back.

Janey T.

Yelp
The second time I came back, the meat was so much better. My experience here has been redeemed. Was very happy with the pulled pork and cherry ribs! The coleslaw was great though a bit too much pepper. Also loves the cornbread as usual!

Azy J.

Yelp
This review is for foodies who are traveling to Edmonton . Let me start by saying service is good. But If you have ever had an ok bbq you know this place is really bad. I was visiting Edmonton and relied on the review and picked this spot for dinner. The ribs and brisket sandwich were so dry we couldn't eat them. I asked the waitress if it is normal to have such dry meat and she said yes because we smoke the meet I mean it's a Texas bbq you should smoke the meat. As a person who has had bbq in Texas and in Vancouver I give the food a solid 0. I'm shocked by the reviews and will be more careful picking a place based on reviews in this city. I liked the drink also.

Yelp
Such a great restaurant. The atmosphere was amazing and food more so. The staff are super friendly and helpful about the family style dining. The four sauces are a win with everything and there's something for everyone- from spicy to cherry to plain mustard and my personal favourite bourbon. You can't go without having the brisket. But the fried chicken is so crispy you will regret not getting it. And the ribs. They are fall off the bone .... ok so they have a meat sampler but don't forget the sides. Not only do you need some veg like your mama said but they are delicious! I just wish they gave you a take away floss stick as you left! :) Oh and I ate to fast for photos!

Cory H.

Yelp
I have to give this place 5 stars! The food is absolutely incredible!! The pulled pork? Amazing! Brisket? Juicy and tender, also amazing! Pork belly burnt ends? *chefs kiss* wasn't a fan of the ribs, but I'm not a fan of ribs in general. Also ordered the corn bread, and that was delightful! The service was great, very attentive, and fast! Ambiance was unique, for being on Whyte, I was surprised at how big the restaurant felt! My only complaint was it was very hot in the restaurant, like; uncomfortably hot. I will be back!

Care B.

Yelp
Date Night with the boyfriend back in the day. delicious food and great service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. A+

Mel W.

Yelp
I don't like meat so I was nervous to go to Meat. But the food here was incredible. Best pork I ever had, beautiful sides and sauces and very friendly and knowledgable servers. As someone with Celiac, I need to be careful, but they took such good care of me. My one complaint is the communal style seating, but that is just a personal preference.

Britt D.

Yelp
We haven't been here since we lived downtown which was pre yelp times for me. I remember it being good but today was like WOWOW. We were on whyte and my husband mentioned if meat was open in the day. I googled their times and they were! He wanted the full fixings of all things but it was brunch hours which was totally ok. We ended up going with the spicy BBQ sandwich which was so freakin good. The BBQ sauce is just the right amount of heat and so tender. Hm my husband had the brisket sandwich which was good but defintely needed the table side bbq sauce drenched all over it. This is on the top of our list for lunch next time.

Laurel B.

Yelp
I was so excited when I drove by MEAT/Next Act/Pip and saw they had all set up heated patios for the winter. This is something that I have been advocating for for years. Edmonton is a winter city and year-round patios are a great way to embrace that. It is especially awesome during the pandemic when some people (like me!) don't feel comfortable eating inside a restaurant. I told a few people I'd eaten at MEAT for my birthday and the first question many of them asked was "wait! aren't you vegetarian??" It turns out that MEAT is actually very veg-friendly! They always have a veggie feature dish along with a vegetarian sandwich. I chose the veggie feature (pan-fried zucchini with lemon and pickled onions) and a side order of their delicious mac and cheese. As a rule, I never choose zucchini dishes. It is one of my least favourite vegetables but I absolutely loved this. It was perfectly cooked and flavourful. MEAT also has a great drink menu that features a number of local beers and creative cocktails. I had their peach sweet tea with bourbon and it was exactly what I needed to cap off my evening. I would highly recommend MEAT to anyone looking for a great night out with delicious food. It has a great atmosphere (both inside and out) and a menu that is amazing for meat eaters and also surprisingly good for vegetarians.

John K.

Yelp
Food is the shit. Wow. Loved it. Already planning to come back tomorrow. I had the Southwest Benny. Fire.

Harsharndeep Kaur D.

Yelp
I waited for so long to try edmonton's favourite and renowned smokehouse. I and my husband stopped here so many times but long waiting time always ruined our plan lol. But finally, we decided to show up for Sunday brunch before the place started to fill so fastly. They have kept their ambience simple and vibrant at the same time by using Wooden tables with dark blue iron chairs. Well, i must say Meat did live up-to my expectations if i talk about my overall experience. I ordered their ordered or house special Beef Brisket Benny with Hashbrowns. I also find Spicy fried Chicken Sandwich with Garlic fries on their menu quite interesting because i love garlic. Both Beef and Chicken were equally delicious and juicy. Their homemade sauces and garlic fries are not to miss. Rating: Ambience:4/5 Taste:4.5/5 Value for money: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Will i come again or recommend to my friends: A 100% Yes.

Allie T.

Yelp
Have been meaning for a while to try this place. I saw they were doing Christmas Dinner take away. So glad I did. They thought of and included everything. Including ice cream for dessert! I want expecting that. They had everything well packed and labeled. With very detailed but easy to follow instructions and really good bond paper (nice touch) For was ready to eat in 30 minutes. Easy peasy. The food was very good. Everything tasted delicious even the Brussels sprouts (which none of us are big fans of) Can't wait until we can go again in person next time.

Erika G.

Yelp
When I think of the NEXT act / MEAT / pip family of restaurants, just taking over their entire block like a pile of culinary kings in this city, it reminds me of Edmonton's version of the Joe Beef monopoly in Little Burgundy in Montreal. I really enjoy seeing these types of things in this city. I remember when MEAT opened back in 2014... Because it happened mere days after I had moved away from Edmonton, 'causing me to miss their opening, much to my dismay. These days they're a standard restaurant in Old Strathcona and everyone knows that it's where you go to EAT MEAT HERE. They were featured on season five of You Gotta Eat Here! and VUE Weekly named them everything; #1 Best BBQ 2018, #1 Best Smokehouse 2018 and #1 Best Place for the Meat Sweats 2018. In six years they have clearly become the place to go for BBQ in Edmonton. I visited on a Saturday evening and as expected, the place was buzzing. You'll recognize the restaurant easily by its navy blue and white colour scheme, both inside and out. Once inside you will be met by stacks of logs (for the smokin'!), navy blue tile, and pale wood. We were seated at a table inside but they've also got a patio should you prefer to dine outside. The service is super friendly and easy-going, ready to bring you all sorts of meat. (That's why you came, isn't it?) "Have a drink with your MEAT" is what the menu instructs and I ran with that suggestion. Bourbon is the thing at MEAT which compliments the Southern stylings of the menu quite well. In fact, they even offer bourbon flights (tell me more about this "pickleback" because that just sounds like something that I want regardless of if I'm drinking bourbon or not). (PS - It's a shot of pickle brine to be used as a chaser.) I was very intrigued by the Brisket Caesar which is made with brisket-washed bourbon and I will most definitely try this on my next visit. However on this visit I zeroed in on the Bourbon Cocktails and selected the Peach Sweet Tea (Steeped tea, rosemary, honey. Served with 2oz Buffalo Trace Bourbon - $12.00). This seemed like the perfect combination of things. You get the sweet tea which is the perfect non-alcoholic thing to drink with this style of food plus you get the bourbon which is the perfect alcoholic thing to drink. It's the best of both worlds! This beverage was boozy!! But not in an unpleasant way because it was also sweet and refreshing. Let's eat MEAT! There are seven different meats on the menu but why waste time when you can just order the Meat Sampler (1/2lb beef brisket, 1/2lb pulled pork, 1/2 rack pork ribs, 1/2 smoked chicken, 1 piece fried chicken, 1 sausage - $65.00) and be done with it? You should probably throw some sides in there as well. There are ten to choose from and I went for the Brussels Sprouts ($7.00 for small) and the Mac & Cheese ($8.00 for small). I will say that the wait for our food took quite a long time. It makes sense because the restaurant was busy and I didn't mind too much because I was having a fun time hanging out with my cocktail. But it was still pretty noticeable. At long last our metal tray of MEAT arrived and we were more than ready to dive in like ravenous, carnivorous maniacs. Starting with the beef brisket, I loved the profound smoke rings on each slab of meat but unfortunately I have to say that this was my least favourite thing on the plate. I found the brisket to be a little bit too dry (and I actually don't mind a bit of dryness on my brisket) and it just seemed to be lacking the juicy flavour that I had been hoping for. Don't worry., the other meats more than made up for this. Next, the pulled pork. Normally, I wouldn't even order this because I tend to find pulled pork to be somewhat played out. Well that would be a huge mistake because MEAT's pulled pork was my favourite thing on the plate. The flavour was delicious, a little bit salty, with caramelized bits that tasted like heaven. You could actually taste and appreciate the flavour of the meat because the pork wasn't drowned away in sauce and instead was served straight-up and simple. (On that note; MEAT makes their own homemade BBQ sauces, four of them; bourbon, cherry, spicy and mustard. These are available on each table and you are free to customize your own sauce journey and experiment with different sauce and meat combos.) Next stop is the BBQ pork ribs which were fall-off-the-bone goodness. I loved the spicy-sweet bark, achieved by using brown sugar. They were tender and full of so much big flavour. The smoked chicken was another item that seemed to surprise me. I loved the big dry-smoked flavour and the juicy chicken on the inside. I feel like I'd be super happy to crush a quarter of this any time (dark meat please!). Staying in the chicken zone, the fried chicken was excellent as well. The breading was so satisfyingly crunchy, encasing piping-hot, ultra-juicy meat inside. They brine the chicken in advance which makes such a huge difference in ensuring a great flavour. I would do

Meghan B.

Yelp
As someone who is marrying a Southerner, I take my BBQ seriously. Meat doesn't disappoint in the slightest. Their food is incredible, the sauces are phenomenal, and oh man, don't get me started on the mac n cheese (I would die for their recipe). While I'll admit that I'm personally not a huge fan of the community style tables (pre-covid), and it can get a little noisy, overall you get big flavour at a great price, alongside fantastic service. The Meat/Next Act/Pip group know their stuff, and it consistently shines through at each of their restaurants.

Richard D.

Yelp
Amazing Brisket sandwich. Just melts in your mouth! Service was great. Next visit, we'll have to get there later, as we were only allowed to order from the limited, lunch menu. Couldn't try any of the mains, we were looking forward to. Recommend 100%! =)

Carmen C.

Yelp
Meat is always solid. This is the place to bring people who are visiting the city. Brisket is perfectly done and pulled pork is just perfect. Garlic fries are a must. They also do a very tasty brunch on the weekend. It's nice how they have some rotating features as well to keep things interesting. Highly recommended for a very satisfying meal. Also want to add that the service is fantastic. The server I spoke to said she worked there more for enjoyment which really speaks volumes about how this restaurant values their staff.

Kassy B.

Yelp
Mac and cheese? Amazing. Brisket? Yes please. I absolutely love everything on the menu here and they've been super diligent with Covid rules, making me feel safe. I love the local drink selection, and it's always a treat to go here!

Merina B.

Yelp
Well if you like meat, this is a great place to go. My favourite is their brisket- usually get a double order. They were the first to introduce me to brussel sprouts as "tasty". So yes I am set in my ways. During the pandemic I would order for pick up, hours ahead. When I got there they were expecting me and pick up and payment were efficient and quick- which is good, since there isn't much for parking around there during the supper hour--unless you walk a few blocks- which is fine if the weather is nice. I admit it- I'm stuck in a rut when it comes to Meat, but they've never disappointed.

David F.

Yelp
This is my 3rd time here. Based on the first two trips I would rate my overall experience as a 4. But tonight they were off their game. I started with the kale salad and then ordered the garlic fries along with ribs, the brisket and the sausage. I hate to say this but the salad was the best choice followed by the brisket. The sausage and, especially the ribs, were very dry. Too dry in fact. Now, having been here twice before and knowing every place can have an off-night, I provided a rating of 3. I will upgrade if my next experience mirrors the first two visits.

Maria N.

Yelp
I had their Jalapeño chicken Cesar salad. It was good but later in the evening I had the runs. Maybe it was too much dressing. It was good other wise

Shahab P.

Yelp
It's an awesome place and everybody I know, loves this place. Everything on the menu is good. The atmosphere is good, very polite and helpful staff and the quality of the food and the drinks are amazing. The only problem is the lineup. Before 6 pm and after 8 pm is better for me because I don't need to wait. I definitely go back there and that's one of my favourite places in Edmonton.

Karl M.

Yelp
We went here for my wife's birthday. I had a rack of pork ribs. They were excellent. My wife had the burnt ends. She found them to be a bit spicy with more sauce than she felt they should. She comes from Kansas City, where the flavour of the burnt ends are in the meat, not the sauce. We also had the garlic fries. They were very good. We also had the oven baked beans. Not our favourites - in fact ate few of them. They appeared not to have been baked long enough. Our server was friendly, efficient and couldn't have been better. She didn't charge us for the beans - it was her initiative. The grapefruit radlar I had was great. Overall a very good experience. We will be back.

Mabel L.

Yelp
This place was good. We arrived at 5 on a Saturday night and already it was quite busy. Therefore, arrive early. They have tons of BBQ options and they are quite good. I would have to say their sides are a hit or miss. We ordered the poutine and the brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts was a slaw which was not what I was hoping it would be. The poutine was a little off. The gravy was just not right. I regret not ordering their mash potato fritters. The have a good dessert menu but I was way too full and never allowed room for it.

Amy C.

Yelp
Love this killer vibes joint! Food is delicious! Service is never less than spectacular and did I mention the food... All the meats. Yum! Brisket brisket brisket! So good. Sausage is not something I would order and it literally can steal the show. Same with pulled pork...it's not ever a go to for me. But wowza it's good here. But the sides!!!! So friggin' good! Get a side of Brussels sprouts for sure! So good here. They're a staple for sure. Coleslaw is great! And the cornbread is the bomb diggity! I ordered a Caesar by accident, that had bourbon as it's base, and I was not a fan. But had it been vodka I think it would have been mixed perfectly! :) Always a pleasure here and the new fire pits outside are awesome!

Merina B.

Yelp
Everything I've had here is great. It can be pricey, but you always get quality food. During COVID it was my go-to for special occasions. I'd just order for a certain time and pick up. Brisket is my favourite. The flavours are intense, and mouthwateringly unvegan. I also like to get a Brussel sprouts dish, as nobody does it better. Even people who don't generally care for bs will likely enjoy these if they can be persuaded to have a taste.

Laura F.

Yelp
Coming from a place where my town IS the standard for quality bbq, my co-workers and I thought it'd be fun to try something different. See what Edmonton had on its play of BBQ. (I come from Houston, TX). We came in and was greeted with friendly smiles. The interior is a bit modern and hipster cool. I really liked the decor. There are some long tables that you may have to end up sharing with others but that's normal to me at any bbq joint. We ordered the brisket, smoked turkey, ribs, mac and cheese, garlic fries, and seasonal veggies. The brisket had good flavor, but it wasn't as tender/juicy as I'm used to. Maybe bc the brisket I usually get is smoked longer? Idk, I'm no connoisseur. The smoked turkey was probably my favorite here, it had nice flavor and was tender. Ribs were ok, flavor there, but meat was dry. The best thing there was the banana parfait (aka banana pudding). I'm a sucker for banana pudding so it tasted great to me. Not bad bbq joint for Canada.

Amber W.

Yelp
It's hard to believe that I haven't written a review yet for MEAT. My husband and I have been coming here frequently since MEAT opened a few years ago. The quality of the menu and the food have stayed consistent over the years, which I love. The interior of MEAT has a Scandinavian feel with navy blue feature walls and copper accents. Majority of the seating here is communal, meaning that if your party doesn't fill the table, you will be sharing with others. Since my husband and I come here with just the two of us, we're not a big fan of this. We prefer to keep to ourselves. We would love to make reservations in advance but unfortunately MEAT does not take them. MEAT fortunately does have 2 person tables along the back wall. To make sure that we can grab this spot we arrive at MEAT as soon as it opens (5 pm on weekdays). What I love about MEAT is that it is well-made food at a great price. Just like their seating, most of their food is also communal. Our favorite dishes are the pull pork and garlic fries. We order a larger portion and are able to share off the same plate. MEAT also makes their own sauces which are available at each table. My favorite home-made sauce is the cherry, while my husband prefers the spicy sauce. On average we usually end up spending around $40-$50 for a shared meal (not including drinks) and we even have left overs to take home! I'll definitely keep coming back to MEAT as they have the best BBQ in the city.

Yelp
Awe yes! visited this smokehouse on a work trip to Edmonton and the atmosphere was energetic and loud. With everyone slowly plucking away at pounds upon pounds of various types/ flavours of beef, pork, and chicken. My group was seated promptly even though we didn't make a reservation, we all had literarily the exam same meals but each person had a different overall perspective/ ratings of the food. We tried the Beef Brisket, BBQ ribs, Garlic fries & Mac & Cheese. The food was pretty good, the ribs were a slightly over cooked and portioned smaller than we expected. But overall we really enjoyed the vibe in the restaurant, and looking forward to trying more of their meals over our next visits.

Yelp
One of four terrific restaurants run by the same people--MEAT is never a miss. Brisket, ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork... it lives up to its name! The sides are great, too. Favourite lunch: half-rack of smoked ribs and a side of baked beans!!

Yelp
We went in for dinner instantly sat at the bar an was greeted with a smile. the bartender provided greet service and knowledgeable on the menu. We had the half pound of brisket, quarter chicken, Mac and cheese and house salad and to finish it all is the butter pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. The brisket was tender delicious an when you start to adventure in the bbq sauce thing really start to get interesting. The chicken is always good preferably with the mustard. Mac an cheese was ok only because I prefer classic Mac. It was still amazing even better with a drizzle of cherry bbq sauce. The house salad is alright, it was ok nothing special but I did like the lil ricotta bits. Last but not least the pecan pie to finish it all of an what a great choice, only thing I'd prefer is maple ice cream on the pie.

Yelp
This was on my MUST TRY list since the day it opened. But it took me a loooooooong time to get there. Finally made it yesterday. I made a mistake though. I ordered a sandwich instead of just meat. Don't get me wrong... the sandwhich was good, but I didn't eat most of the bread because I was saving room for the sides. I got the brisket sandwich and it was everything I wanted it to be. Meat was flavourful, horseradish was creamy, but not overwhelming and the bun (although way too big) was delicious. It comes with garlic fries which were great - but again, too many of them. The coleslaw was a surprising treat. It has pickles chopped up in it and I think that really made a big difference. The real star of the show though was the skillet cornbread. AMAZING. I'll be dreaming about it for weeks. Service was good, but we sat at the bar to avoid the 20 minute wait for a table. Bartender was very friendly.

Yelp
Weekday night and they opened earlier because of the Fringe. Arriving at 5, there was plenty as seats inside and limited on the patio. I liked the long tables as the other guests seems far away but we could put our bags on the table. The temperature was a little cool in the restaurant even on a hot day. Our server was very friendly and answered our questions we had on the menu. I saw the sample platter on Yelp and asked about it since it wasn't on the menu. For $60, we could try all the meats which was a reasonable price and great variety. We are 4 voracious eaters and the server doubted if we ladies can eat all the meat. We also ordered sides since we do also like vegetables. We got a large Brussels sprouts, small garlic fries, and small Mac n Cheese. I like there's a decent variety of sides besides a salad and fries. The meat came out with the fries and bowl of Mac on the board. The sprouts were in a large bowl. Yum to beef, sausage, chicken, and pork. I loved sampling it all and dipping it into the sauces. It wasn't dry but moist and juicy. This was good meat! There are 4 sauces on the table to choose from. Since I can't eat spicy, I skipped that and the mustard since I don't like it but I did try the bourbon and cherry. I didn't use a lot of sauce as I found the meat tasty without. The garlic fries were a bit greasy and I didn't try the Mac n cheese but the shredded sprouts were delicious. I would definitely order them again. At the end of the meal, the only food left was some fries. We finished off the meat and thoroughly enjoyed every bite! Although the place can get loud and busy as people were waiting when we left at 7:30, this is a great place to come for meat. Most people I saw couldn't finish their meals and had leftovers to go. I would come back again!

Yelp
Vegetarians dining at a restaurant named Meat seemed a bit backwards, but don't be fooled, this restaurant has something for everyone! We dined on the patio and unlike it's neighbour The Next Act, you can actually comfortably fit six people on the picnic tables. Though don't be surprised if they seat another group with you (whether inside or outside) as many of the tables are large and communal! It makes for a great social night out but maybe not the best place for a first date. They always have a vegetarian sandwich special and a feature vegetable side dish. We ordered four small sides ($6 each) between the two of us plus a pickle and slice of bread ($1 each) and it was plenty of food. We chose the Macaroni and Cheese, Feature Vegetable - Zucchini Fritters, House Salad and Garlic Fries. We thoroughly enjoyed everything but the fries. Gasp! I know, everyone raves about them and maybe we had a bad batch, but they were way too salty and garlicy (and I love garlic). Our fellow diners enjoyed their meat selections as well. I would definitely recommend Meat to those passing through the Whyte Ave area. The restaurant is fairly large but I'm sure it gets busy on the weekends.

Yelp
Complete Stranger Paid My Meal!! I went with my son to this restaurant. Service was good waitress helped out and food came out fairly quick on a busy night. My son (8 years old) wanted to try the pulled pork so we ordered a half order of that and then I ordered a half order of pork burnt ends and then a small order of garlic French fries. The pork burnt ends were ok but the pulled pork was delicious and was the favourite. The French fries were ok. When we were finished and ready to pay for the bill the waitress said that this person had already paid for our bill!! I was in complete shock, I turned around and a young man and two beautiful women smiled and immediately walked out the one young lady said God bless you! All I could do was say thank you ! I was so shocked that a complete stranger would do that! If that person ever reads this review I wanted to say how great full and amazing of a person that you are!! God bless you guys! This is during a hard time of my life and you all honestly made my night! Thank you so much! The world still has some amazing people! God bless!
