I stayed here in February for 17 days, because visiting family nearby. It was my second stay at this hotel.
TLDR:
It is a good budget hotel, especially if arriving by train. Older, but has some nice features.
The Good:
- Very close walking distance from train station, and easy walk to Zhongshan Rd with many shops and restaurants.
- Friendly staff. (Eileen at the front desk was very friendly and helpful to me. Most staff will say hello whenever they see you.)
- Hot/Warm/Cold Water dispenser on every floor. (This was surprisingly so useful because I was often doing remote-work for many hours a day in the hotel room.)
- Laundry room on the roof level with large coin-op washer and dryer (I think $30 for washer, $40 for dryer) which I used and both worked really well.
- Roof top has a terrace for relaxing in good weather.
- Lobby with free snacks and coffee/tea. I had some everyday! There is a basement lounging area as well, and a little outside patio with two cats.
- For cold days, if you ask at the front desk, they will lend you a small space heater for free. (It was my first visit in the winter, and I found out that most hotels in Taiwan do not to have room heating, even though they have A/C.)
- The standard family room was nice: larger room, larger bathroom, two windows. (I booked and stayed in a standard room with double bed, and only got to see the standard family room because of a bathroom issue -- see below.)
- Hotel does not have breakfast, but there is a Taiwanese breakfast stand next door for good, cheap breakfast/early lunch.
The not-quite so Good:
- Standard size rooms are pretty small. I stayed in a standard room with two twin beds last time, and with one double bed this time. The standard family room is about twice as big.
- The hotel is older, although seemed decently maintained. I did have one issue with my bathroom (room 310) for most of this stay. The area under the bathroom sink would somehow have a small pool of water after a shower. It wasn't in an area where I would step, so I ignored it. But when Eileen asked for my feedback one day, I let her know, and they tried to fix it. However, it got worse -- still have water under sink, but the shower itself started to get filled up with water during shower. After this, they moved me to a standard family room, which was nice (but I only enjoyed it one night because it was already my last night).
- I requested a higher floor when I made reservation with Agoda. But, I was given room on 3rd floor (they had 6 floors), even though I saw that most of their upper level floors were empty (slow season). I didn't ask them to change it since I found it convenient to use the stairs most of the time. (Half the steps from 1st to 2nd floor were a bit taller than the rest, so had to be careful in that section.)
