Media Luna Hostel - Cartagena

Let me start with a disclaimer... I have traveled the world and stayed at many 5 star hotels, Hostels, and Arbnb private homes, im also a Airbnb host. This Hostel was everything described and more. It provided a local vibe with Colombianos traveling for vacation from the states but also travelers from around the world. The rooms were very clean and I had no COVID concerns during my time. The front desk staff and the entire staff frankly is like family and you will feel as such when staying here. I initially booked for 1 day but ended up staying the entire week here. They include free breafast which was above what i exp||ected with fruit and eggs. They had great music playing throughout the day from 10Am to 10pm which set a festive vibrations for a catalyst for people to gather around the pool while trading travel stories. The security was perfect and always someone avaible at all hours of the day or night taking tempurature and buzz entry into the gates of the facilities. The young lady in the front was the icing on the cake. When she smiled the entire place lit up and her desire to make every single guest feel special is a gift from God. I think I may have met the owners here one evening which explains the operational excellence of the property and staff. I will definitly recommend the Hostel to anyone. The price is inexpensive, the location is near everything and 5 mins walk to old city. Safe, clean, friendly, and affordable. Media Luna is a gem of Colombia!

This hostel was once popular and alive, according to a guidebook. Now, the second floor bar is abandoned, and the roof terrace is only used one night a week. Much fewer organized social events than other nearby hostels. It’s also expensive for what you get. Rooms smelled bad, bathrooms were dirty and heavily vandalized. Food was not of good quality. Big plus was that staff were very friendly. It seems like there is just a management problem.

Booked a 3 bed private room, got a 6 persons dorm that smelled like mold. When trying to change rooms or cancel the booking, they didn’t budge. We got no money back and decided to stay somewhere else. Would not recommend.

They have the best pillows I've ever seeing in an hostel !!! Seriously, the quality of the pillow and the mattress are very good! The staff is very friendly and can help you if you need anything. Very safe, all the rooms have lockers and they don't let people from outside in. The room also have AC at night. You can use the swimming pool until 10pm and even drink a small cocktail in the afternoon (honestly no the best, but still ok). Also, they have nice breakfast in the morning included in the price. Highly recommend this place!!!

Unfortunately AC didn’t work properly , the fan was as loud as torrential rain (we needed it on because of the heat), bathrooms very mouldy and the bathroom door wouldn’t close and just stayed swinging wide open. To top it off Shower water just turned itself off after a minute of using it. Otherwise, it’s in a great location and it is a good place for a party hostel. Unfortunately not my vibe and we cancelled after 1 night.

Great location, right into the historical centre with a lot of bars and restaurants around. Nice building and it was quite clean if you think that sleeps a lot of people. The problem tho, was that there was no running water for our 3 days stay. Horrible. Included breakfast is very yummy and you can choose from 3 different choices ///Rooftop bar with music until late///

Esteban at the front desk, the bar men and the two repair men were very friendly and helpful, and the location of the hostel is great. But I wouldn’t recommend this hostel- the pool filter was never on, there was no chlorine in the pool, and there were rats running around the pool area at night. The AC never worked for the 4 nights we stayed, despite repeatedly asking staff to fix it. Most of the staff were dismissive or rude. Showers are only cold water and no pressure. The communal kitchen was filthy, no equipment in it and the staff made you feel very unwelcome when you tried to cook. Will never be back!

SCAM! We were charged $30 a night for a dorm room with en suite and breakfast included despite there being no running water for the 4 days we were there, so the en suite didn't function and breakfast couldn't be served because there was no water for cooking and washing. The showers didn't work and they were stingy with the AC so you were constantly sweating and couldn't wash. They didn't close off the communal toilets while the water wasn't working so every toilet was filled with faeces which couldn't be flushed. Obviously the whole place had an awful smell. The manager did not care and the staff were laughing about it, refusing to give any refunds, despite the fact we had paid extra for breakfast and an en suite which we did not receive. An absolutely disgusting hostel with the worst service I have ever received. Do not stay here, they do not deserve your money and there are much better hostels with staff that care.
