What Ho, Apothecary! 18 Intriguing Pharmacy Museums

"Founded in 1808 in a historic home donated to be first a hospital and then this museum, the Gothenburg Medical Museum is one of the oldest original medical museums in Europe. The collection is comprised of a variety of medical equipment, instruments, photos, furniture and books dating from the 18th century forward. Rotating exhibits highlight both local history of Swedish medicine in Gothenburg as well as a general overview of medical advances over the centuries, with only a small part of the collection being on display at any one time. The Medical History Museum belongs to the Sahlgrenska University Hospital." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Beautiful small museum with a low entrance fee (around 5€) compared to other museums in the city. Loved the quiet atmosphere. All objects and exhibits are explained in swedish and english. You‘ll learn about the history of hospitals in Gothenburg, individual doctors (both men and women) and scientists, past healthcare methoda (sun hats! Among other things..) and the building in which the museum now resides. Loved it, would wholeheartedly recommend everybody who likes silent museums in ancient surroundings without any frills.

Really nice museum found that there was English translations, however nowadays with apps like google translate it’s not a problem. I found the history of blood transfusions interesting

This is not a %100 english museum. Some texts don’t have an english translation. It would have been more fitting if they had changed the name to Gothenburg's Health History. It’s a small museum and there’s also a tiny shop.

Smashing wee museum - well presented aspects of Gothenburg's medical and nursing history. Allow for 90 minutes.

Very interesting place that among other things helps to understand how lucky are we today and how badly mistaken can we sometimes be.

They display samples from the development of the modern Swedish health care system with placards and pictures. Some medical tools from the past are displayed. The museum is not big, but it contains some goodies for people with some insight in medicine

This was absolutely amazing before they did the renovation. Now it feels a bit empty and underwhelming. A lot of items are gone and the beautiful recreations of the old surgical room and a dentists office doesn't exist anymore. Old photos are also gone from the walls. The place has lost it's charm. It's sad to say but it was much better prior to the renovation.

Interesting small museum about the history of medicine, particularly in Gothenburg and Sweden. The entrance on the street is not especially obvious, but the opening hours online are correct. Most of the large boards had English translations in a smaller font. They were somewhat clunkily written in the present tense. The displays of artefacts did not have English translations and the audio and video were in Swedish only. As the entrance price is a modest SEK 50, it's worth a visit if you're interested in medical / health matters.
