On the Grid : Medlock Park

"Complete with multiple fields, batting cages, and a concession stand, everyone can enjoy America's favorite past time at Medlock Park. In addition to the sports fields, there is a pool and a giant playground. For other activities, the South Peachtree Creek trail connects Medlock to Mason Mill Park, which has a mile-long paved trail for biking, running, or walking." - Liz Shinn & Mike Rivera

Medlock Park is a charming neighborhood park with shaded trails, a peaceful creek, and a kid-friendly playground. Great for family outings, dog walks, or a relaxing jog. Clean, quiet, and well-maintained—perfect for a nature escape in the city.

Extraordinary place to take fresh breath and walking and enjoy your weekend alone of with family or friends, definitely it's a adventure the road when u walking all around this park, definitely I'll repeat this trip later with more time, it's near from ma gf house and it's super comfy walking around this park, the nature, the small creek and the graffiti are the best part of the walking trip, also you have to go prepared bc the heat and the possible bugs could find you, always bring water with you don't forgot hehehe, definitely I recommend this park 🌵🌴🌳🪴🌲🌱☘️⚘️🪻🌷🌼

Google
This is a nice neighborhood park with ball fields, trails, playground, and a pool. My children enjoy the playground which has two play structures one for toddlers and one for older kids. I like that it is easy for adults to walk up the play structures if they need to follow little ones closely. My review is on the playground not the other amenities. There were some muddy areas that we had to avoid after the rain. And I had to take off one star for the fact that the equipment has large holes everywhere that a small child could fall through (see photos) especially on the bouncy bridge. This is an older playground but not as old as many in DeKalb county.

Google
Loads of parking, but don't park too close to the ball fields. Nice raised fields help with post-rain drainage. Pool, cages, bathrooms, concessions are all familiar Dekalb County looks.

Google
The fields are well kept and good for sports. Located next to the community school and surrounding neighborhood. Playground wise, probably the most useless equipment I've seen and not well kept. 3/4 of the playground is Ramps. All the wood chips are so uneven, the playground slides are high and most kids just fall straight off onto their knees and faces. The playground easily and is useless the day after it rains.

I love walking here to get access to the south Peachtree creek trail. There’s plenty of parking and I love the part of trail that starts at the park! It's quite busy on the weekends but I've never had an issue parking and the trail is never crowded.

Yelp
A little oasis of nature in a busy city like Atlanta. Peaceful and serene place to walk and sit with beautiful trees. Lovely walk in the woods, via paved pathways and raised boardwalks. A hidden gem! This 39-acre park with athletic fields also offers a playground, swimming pool, trials, baseball fields and picnic area. Offers beautiful nature, creeks, old water works, train viewing bridge along the way. Shows how beneficial even a 1 mile of trail can be to connect neighbors, and offer an alternate, pleasant travel corridor. They have a nice picnic area and a beautiful walking path. There a baseball park here and open batting cages. Great place to take the kiddies and families. And you have the excellent South Peachtree Creek Trail for a walk starting there. Right now the restrooms are closed due to Covid situation. It's a dog friendly park. Walk from Willevee Drive across boardwalk and path to Mason Mill Park which is a very peaceful trial. The trail connects to other trails so could be good for a short walk or a longer run if you wanted to keep going. It's an easy enough walk for most to handle. Well shaded by trees and also saw several bike riders, strollers, and wheelchairs. There are well marked signs to inform walkers and runners of distance and elevation, as well as seating along the trail for rest and nature watching. A wonderful place to explore or relax. Parking is usually plentiful during the week. Very well maintained and policed. I would really recommend this place.

Yelp
I really wish they'd either fix up the playground or rope it off. It looks like it may have been in the beginning phases of maintenance or renovation when the pandemic hit, then abandoned. I feel like most playgrounds in Dekalb are closed, and then there's this muddy, dilapidated monstrosity. It's seriously always a mud pit. I don't get why there's always so many kids here.. and that's why I can't take my son, he's two, he could walk by and enjoy the rest of the park but always hears the other kids and HAS to run over. Half the swings are missing. The bottom of the slides are almost 2 feet off the ground, even on the little playground, launching unsuspecting kids right into the muddy grime. I love most of Dekalb parks, but this one is an embarrassment.

Yelp
Nice enough park depending on what your looking for. Medlock is mostly made up of sports fields. It does have a nice pool and splash area, as well has a playground for the kids. Some of the other reviews claim that you can connect to a walking trail from Medlock, if that is true I never found the entrance for the trail. Clearly makes signage would be great.

Yelp
Like surprises? Me too! While I was checking neighborhoods house shopping, I stumbled across this little neighborhood park, that is literally across the street from a row of houses. At first glance you might poo poo this park as just a neighborhood spot to play softball and push kids on swings, and if you only hung around the immediate area of the park, you'd be right, but this little secret park has another secret called the South Peachtree Creek Trail! The South Peachtree Creek Trail can be accessed from Medlock park by taking the trail on the furthest to the left trail. This sends you to a green wonderland filled with trees as far as the eye can see, which weaves its way through residential space. South Peachtree creek trail is 1.12 miles in length with mile markers evenly spaced, and the trail itself runs alongside South Peachtree Creek, although it's hard to see or appreciate until you find yourself moving past mile marker 0.29. While the main trail is boardwalk and paved, pay attention to the natural dirt trails that you can make out from the upper boardwalks. These little feeder trails can lead you right down to the creek at times for a better look Towards the end of the trail you lose a lot of trees, gain a lot of graffiti and also get to a bit of construction where it seems like they may be making additions to the trails. Guess i'll have to come back to find out! Parking is nicely sized, although if the softball fields are all full and going, chances are you'll have to park on the side of the road, but on a Saturday afternoon with two games going, there was more than enough parking to be found. Medlock Park itself, if you're after a nice walking experience, really isn't a great choice, but walk a little bit to the connecting South Peachtree Creek Trail, and you have yourself a close to 2.5 mi round trip trail to get your steps in however you like them. If I lived here i'd be on this trail daily. Now that I know that it exists, i'll 100% be back!!

Yelp
Medlock Pool is located in the Medlock Park neighborhood, adjacent to baseball fields and a modest, but fun, playground. The park is also connected to a walking path that leads to Mason Mill Park and beyond. The PATH deserves its own review, but trust me--it's great. Now, the pool. This is a Dekalb County-owned facility. It is older and I would describe it as a little run down. As of this review, there is one pool, which is fairly large in size and ranges from 3 feet deep to 11 feet deep. There are two low-dives and several areas to enter the pool via steps or ladders. We have been a few times this year and it has been clean and uncrowded. There is usually room to stretch out while swimming without bumping into anybody. We are often, but not always able to find an empty picnic table. There is an area of the facility that used to be a 1-foot deep baby pool and will one (unknown) day be a splash pad for young children. The good: -- Very affordable at $3/adults and $2/children. -- Life jackets available for children if needed. -- Chill atmosphere with families and patrons of all ages. -- Shaded area* of the deck with picnic tables The meh: -- It's a little run down overall. For 2018 it seems in better shape than it has been some other years, like maybe they made some small repairs in the off season. -- Related to the above--Dekalb is overall somewhat inconsistent in maintaining their facilities and keeping the public informed of events such as swim team dates and times. Another example, sun shades were removed and didn't return until the pool had been open a few weeks. -- The hours. All Dekalb pools keep the same hours for the most part. This pool is open 12-6 most days and 1-6 on Sundays. I think many more neighborhood families would use the pool if it was open in the evening, when people get home from work and want to relax, play, and enjoy the sun since it doesn't get dark until almost 9 pm. -- Because there's no baby pool and the pool is not zero entry, I did not visit much when my kids were younger. It's not the best place to bring multiple toddlers who are too young to stand up in the shallow end, or at least I didn't feel comfortable doing that unless I had another adult with me. The bad: -- The bathroom/changing area is old and smelly. Admittedly my bathroom standards are higher than some people's so maybe they aren't THAT bad? They aren't great, though. I live close by so I just avoid using these facilities as much as I can. Because this is a public pool, all are welcome. Come on down, y'all!

Yelp
This is a great park. We went during COVID times and saw a baseball game/practice taking place *strong side eye and lots of judgment for the disregard for social distancing* but other than that we really enjoyed the size of these trails. It's perfect for strollers and there are many spots throughout where you can stop and have lunch or just look around. There are walking trails and some trails for "mountain"/trail bikes. There's Lots of shade too! Parking was not limited but I can totally see how on a busy day it can be hard to find.

Yelp
This is my favorite park to take the kids I nanny because there is a playground, plenty of places to ride scooters, and never any kids there!

Yelp
Medlock Park's a pleasant little place tucked into a residential neighborhood bordered by Clairmont and North Decatur Roads. The emphasis seems to be on its baseball fields which are numerous in number and if you're there at the right season, teeming with kiddos playing America's pastime. A popular spot with runners, walkers, dog owners, and families, you'll see all of the above if you're at Medlock Park on a fair weekend day. There's a parking lot on Gaylemont Circle but you can park on a street if you come from other directions. If you're feeling ambitious, you can take the wooden path all the way to Mason Mill Park. We did this once by accident! It was a happy accident since you get to go through some quiet woods behind houses and then get to cross over the railroad tracks closer to your destination. Medlock maybe isn't the most exciting park ever, but I'm glad it's around.

Yelp
This is a nice neighborhood park with a small kids area and a big kids area. It also has baseball fields and ample parking. There is a wooded path that connects it to Mason Mill Park. The path is 1 mile long and it is a really nice walk.

Yelp
I love this park! Not only does it have baseball fields and a playground for kids, but it has a really nice paved running path which I use often. There are also some really cool nature trails.

Yelp
Medlock Park is composed of mostly baseball fields and a community pool but there are also some very cool trails and paths running alongside the creek. The community pool here (open during the Summer months) is way better / nicer than the one next to Adams stadium (Kittredge Pool). There is also a small playground for little kids. There is a great hiking trail that connects Medlock Park to Mason Mill Park (30 minutes walk each way). I would also like to see a walking path from Medlock Park leading through woods along the creek to the nearby Clyde Shepherd Wildlife Park / Sanctuary.

Yelp
Came here as a visiting team for baseball tournament. Well run, very organized! Concessions were surprisingly below average. Fields were great and very well maintained between games! Overall a very positive experience! I'm sure the leagues here are great as well! Thier team was strong, and there families very welcoming!

Yelp
Great little neighborhood park with an awesome trail to Glen Lake Park winding along a creek, over the train tracks and an elevated wooden boardwalk path with nature, flora and fauna info signs. A dedicated dog park area would get me to 5 stars, but Medlock Park is definitely worth a stop. And a great walk.

Cathy L.

Yelp
I live just around the corner from this park. It is a great place to walk your dogs, play with your kids, or simply watch a little league baseball game. The park is well kept and a very friendly place. However, don't go when it raining because it tends to get flooded.

Walk conveniently to Mason Mill Park and Avis G. Williams library!!!

Yelp
My family and I have spent countless hours at Medlock, playing on the playground and walking/bike riding the boardwalk between Medlock and Mason Mill Parks. On occasion we're lucky enough to see a train go by. Medlock is not the newest of parks, but it has a nice playground and lots of paths for kids to ride bikes.
