Horns = Bears
Put your food in the BEAR food lockers ! Don't keep your food in your camper / tent! (Camping 101)
AT&T customers - THERE IS NO CELL PHONE RECEPTION (you have to walk a good 15 minutes or more to get service, there is NO cell phone service on the property, which is a huge safety red flag for me) I spent 72 hours here.
They are not pet friendly and do not allow pets on the property. The general store has a lounge area where they have WIFI. WIFI is ridiculously expensive and super slow. The general store has snacks like chips, candy and beer. $29.99 and up for a 6 pack of beer. They have bottled water, red bull and juices. You purchase your shower tokens here ($2 for every four minutes) they close at 7pm and its the only place you can get the tokens, so plan accordingly if you want to shower.
They have cabins (that are like hotel rooms) and they have a full camping ground with hot water and electrical outlets. We camped in the camp grounds. There are no lights in the campground so it's pitch black when it gets dark , since there is no cell phone service I didn't feel safe. Personally don't think this is the safest place for a group of women to camp especially with no cell phone service. In addition if there is an emergency you can't make any phone calls
The camp site is right by the freeway, the only thing that separates the campground is a wall. It's extremely noisy from all the on going traffic from the freeway, it's literally off the freeway.
They have pretty clean bathrooms. They have shower stalls and charge $2 for four minutes. There are electrical outlets outside of the bathroom / shower building. You can sit on the ground and charge your phone or laptop. It takes forever to charge it in your camper, easier to go by the bathroom or in the general store and use the outlets in the lounge area.
The beach itself is pretty small. It's not exclusive to the guest who are camping or staying at the resort . The general public can pay $10 and enjoy the beach as well.
I actually loved the beach at 8 am and 8pm when no one was there . So calm, peaceful and beautiful. Later in the day you have the drunks, the screaming kids and the adults. On Saturday it was so crowded that we ended up going to emerald bay instead.
There are no lifeguards so be careful . Watch your kids and don't drink and do stupid things in the water . On Saturday they had a person who drowned. 5 stars to the firefighters , sheriff 's department and the helicopter that responded within minutes.
They have a marina that they rent paddle boats, kayak, boats and boards at.
The employees at the Marina are kids , they will not give you safety advice or directions . If your new to water sports don't use this location , or if you do GOOGLE the safety rules and educate yourself . You pay at the marina , get your paddles and then walk to the area that they have the equipment at. You get the equipment yourself and haul it out to the water, and you do the same when your done. There is no help whatsoever and no safety feedback. Again at your own risk... Oh yeah they give you a life jacket if you ask for it . They also imprint your credit card , and keep your credit card and driver license while you "rent" their equipment. Not sure what kind of background these employees go through but we were very annoyed with that. However we enjoyed all the water activities we did.
They do have a grill / restaurant onsite with some bar stools facing the water. Unfortunately they have no salads , the only thing that looked healthy was the turkey wrap, however it was salty processed turkey meat. They had burgers, finger foods and fried food . I ordered the "Tahmoe Poppers" but basically it was jalapeño poppers. Nothing special or exclusive.
The beach itself is pretty, but any beach you go to in Tahoe is pretty, this one is extremely small and crowded.
I had a lot of safety concerns, especially with no phone service, and drunk camper men (other guest) at night. Crime can happened anywhere but I rather camp / stay in an area where I can make phone calls. They didn't have any safety guidelines about the bears or what to do, and yes there were bears. Only thing I can suggest is that you educate yourself about camping , water sports, bears etc if you camp here. It's not a "resort" at all. It's open to the public and they have hot water and electrical hook ups for your RV or camper. Almost everyone at the campground would leave to go some where else during the day and only came back to eat and sleep.
It's beautiful (by the lake) but the campground itself is not pretty, it's like a parking lot full of RV's. I didn't feel like I was camping, I felt like I lived at a trailer park for 3 days.
I did enjoy going to the beach a 8 am and 8pm to read and relax when no one was there.
