We had a River View Suite at the Retreat, which also gives you access to the Retreat Lounge. The hotel is a rather sober building, but impresses with its unique location at the end of the Taroko Mountains. Inside, we liked the modern and beautiful reception hall. The Retreat Louge is an exclusive, quiet oasis. The Retreat Lounge and the rest of the hotel felt like two worlds. Here the exclusive retreat lounge with 5-star service, the rest of the hotel more like a 3-star club hotel. We were delighted with the extensive and very fine complimentary afternoon buffet with savory and sweet dishes, champagne, wines and teas. Everything was very tasteful with great service from the staff. We found it a pity that the Retreat Lounge was not open in the evening and that morning meals were only possible with advance reservation and a fixed menu. The rest of the hotel was very busy and the restaurants were hectic. Although the buffets were very extensive and beautifully presented, it still felt more like a vacation camp, partly due to the many tour groups. |The outdoor pool area, which was open until late in the evening (10pm!), was exceptionally beautiful, modern and renovated. A particular highlight here were the small whirlpools, which are limited in use per couple when the hotel is full. An open fire with seating and the view of the Taroko Gorge made the pool area a great place to spend time. |I would definitely choose the hotel again, but not sure if I would pay the high extra price for a retreat suite again and choose a resort room instead.
