Avoid this store. They have awful customer service, are idiotically rude to the handicapped/elderly and don't want to concede anything when challenged about it.
By far the WORST grocery shopping experience I've ever had, when this should have been so simple. Went with my handicapped mother today to this location to pick up a few items for Memorial Day. This was during the corona-virus pandemic. My mother is in the at risk age/health group, so I had her stay in the car while I put on a bulky plastic mask for extra safety because I don't want her getting the virus. We parked in the handicap space because she has a handicap plate due to being disabled.
Went in, picked up my items, did self-check-out, and brought the groceries back to the car. Should have been over right? My elderly and handicapped mother then told me that a manager had actually exited to store and walked over to the handicap space to line her out like she was a child about "yelling at people." Discussing it with her, it turns out she had only tried complimenting a few people on their clothing, masks, etc. and tried making light conversation from the rolled down window to be friendly to people because she is talkative, bubbly and personable. For this, some red-haired manager with idiotic judgment and non-existent people skills had tried to discipline a senior like this was his 1st grade classroom.
Tried calling their customer service number, no one answered the phone. So I went back in and went to the customer service booth and got the manager to have a talk with him because I certainly wasn't letting this level of disrespect from a store we have both given plenty of business over the years slide by.
He was obviously extremely annoyed I questioned his ridiculous judgment call, would not concede anything, repeating "I did nothing wrong," five times like a squawking parrot, and never said sorry to me despite my business to this store obviously being on the line based on how this interaction turned out. I asked him to go out back to apologize to my mother, which would be reasonable, since he had already walked out of the store to her car once to scold her. Of course he didn't do that. Pleasing the customers here obviously isn't a priority. They act like trash to them. They only want your money. This was the most idiotic, nonsensical thing I've heard of to happening in a grocery store (she didn't even enter the store!) and I won't be back. Strack and Van Till will be getting my business from now on.
Thought this review was over? Well, not yet, I had another negative experience a few months prior that I'll tack on here as well. I had ordered a holiday cake from the Meijer's bakery with certain specifications. When I came to pick it up at the agreed upon time, the girl at the bakery didn't have the cake or no record of it having been ordered. They did nothing to appease me for the mishap. I let this slide at the time, but looking back that was a mistake. So yeah, this location is not trust worthy. Go shop somewhere else unless you enjoy zero customer service, mid-level managers on power-trips who talk down to your elderly parents regarding incidents that never occurred, and wasting your time in general.
