Google
Way better stocked than michigan city, more cashiers working, but less friendly than most other places around. Fruit and veggies are hit or miss, as is the meat section. The rewards points and coupons don't seem to matter these days due to prices, but I definitely try to clip as many as humanly possible before shopping.

I came to Meijers today looking for an outdoor faucet cover. I worried where in the world to find it and ask Jane, for help. She quickly looked it up and walked me over where it was. What wonderful customer service!! Thank you so much!! It's why I shop here!

Google
Just a wonderful grocery store to shop at. For me this is one of the quickest in and out stores you can visit to shop at. Prices are cheap, and it is slightly smaller than Walmart but this also means less foot traffic. There are so many departments. The clothing department seems to have different refreshing styles. There’s a Starbucks and a very elegant looking alcohol area.

I took my sister and her friends in to buy some stuff and the lady by the self checkout accused my sisters friend of shoplifting with zero evidence. She watched her pay for it, we had a receipt, and we walked out of the store without the alarm going off yet she called a manager and security on this 12 year old who did nothing wrong. She also didn’t apologize she only said she was “just doing her job” curious that out of everyone who checked out she only had an issue with the only girl who wasn’t white. I couldn’t get her name but she had shoulder length orange hair and two spider tattoos. I called the store to complain and they said they will follow up with it. How disappointing. We will never be back

Google
6:45 AM this morning and there are zero regular checkout lines open, Only self check out. I think we should all start leaving our carts randomly in the parking lot and not putting them away until they start hiring people.

Google
I love this store so much I wish Demotte Indiana would get one! Always have what I need fresh produce and the deli meats lasts a long time unlike strack grocery stores..... and the people there are so friendly.

Google
Always a great experience at Meijer! The store is spotless every time I visit—clean, well-lit, and easy to navigate. They have a wide selection of products, from groceries to home goods, and I rarely leave without finding exactly what I need. The self-checkout is fast and user-friendly, which makes quick trips even easier. One of the best-run stores around—highly recommend!

Google
I love Meijer in Valparaiso, with the nice big aisles, and the deals using mperks. I also use my mperks to get gas at a great discount.

Yelp
I really enjoy visiting this Meijer. It's clean, well lit and the cosmetics section is awesome! I love their candle selection and my husband loves the automotive aisles. I also look forward to their heirloom pumpkin options each fall. Located in Porters Vale, there is plenty of parking and lighting in the evening. This store is super ginormous, encompassing more than just groceries - Meijer offers clothing, shoes, garden supplies and gasoline. The employees are extremely patient and helpful. In addition, they are open to requests to include offerings from local businesses. This is my new Meijer.

Yelp
This Meijer is amazing. It's always fully stocked, very clean, and they always have new products rotating in whenever I'm in town and visiting. The flowers here last a while, I can confirm, and they have a great selection of press on nails I recently discovered. I also like stopping and filling my car up with gas at their gas station, their pumps work great.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Watch for deals here. It's the best way to shop Meijer. Get the mperks and clip coupons too. But your code in at the check out for points. You can also scan your receipt into the app afterwards for points. Fruit is always good here but prices can vary greatly. Meat is normally higher than local grocery or Walmart, yet not better cuts. Shop smart to save!

Yelp
Okay - the deli is so slow. I've waited there for over 25 minutes before. Plus, the staff will just ignore you while they gab. I've had more than one delivery person treat me like they are doing me a favor by getting my food. Rude - not personable like it used to be.

Yelp
Gas station: when I filled my tank this morning I also wanted to wash my windshield. All of the washer fluid containers were either frozen or empty, mostly empty and frozen. I went inside to leave my comment with the attendant and when I said my comment her reply was the fluid freezes. This is not an acceptable reply given our geographical location. Shouldn't it be expected to put in fluid that has a very low temperature rating? I would imagine the grocery store in the automotive section even carries such a product. I also imagine that if I went to other gas stations in the area, I would find washer fluid that is not frozen.

Yelp
Produce Department - 1/5 Fresh herbs are lacking - good luck finding anything other than small clamshells for basic herbs and very often the herbs are already turning brown and are still on the shelf. Strawberries even in the height of their season almost always have one berry inside with mold. I have to check each time for mold (this shouldn't be). Lettuce selection is sad. Mushroom selection is worse. If you are looking for any items beyond basic - this is not the place. Meat Department - 3/5 Deli selection is fine but you have to watch the butchers as they often don't take direction well as to how you want the meat cut or sliced. Butcher area is sad - there is hardly ever someone visible on site and the quality and selection of meats is poor. If you want an entire coffin case of prepackaged sausages or bacon - go here - but if you want high quality meat - this is not the place for you. Pantry Goods - 3/5 Prices are ok, nice to have Meijer brand options. Would love to see more international foods. But for pantry items Walmart often has cheaper prices and very similar selection. Service - 2/5 I don't mind self checkout when I have a few items. I'd rather do it myself and be fast than wait on others and longer lines. But the amount of full service lines they have open is ABSURD. One or two full service lanes on the weekends is crazy.

Yelp
We stopped at Meijer several times on our trip to Valparaiso for the AKC Regional Scent Work Trial. I was impressed with their produce selection and quality. The entire store was well designed, products and selections were good, employees were helpful. Will definitely shop here again when I'm in the area.

Yelp
I purchased 3 gift cards there as Christmas gifts for 2024. At the register the cashier indicated there was an issue with one of the gift cards and told me to go to Customer Service. Jules (a Manager) was in Customer Service and refunded my money for that card. She then suggested I go grab a new card. I did so. Late last month (January 2025), my son who received a $100 Lowe's gift card from me called to indicate his gift card had white colored tape over the PIN area, and when he removed it there was no PIN under it. Because of this he could not use it on line. He went to the Lowe's location near him to attempt to use the card and was told there was only 5 cents on the card. He returned the card to me, and I took it to Meijer's in Valparaiso where I purchased the card. Once again Jules helped me, indicated they were having so many problems with gifts cards and recommended that I tell people not to purchase them for a awhile until things get taken care of (they believe they know what group of people are causing the issue). She also refunded the $100 in cash. I will definitely continue to shop at this location.

Yelp
Super disappointing. The last two times we have done curb side pick up our order has not been ready. The first time I had to wait 45min for them to pull my my order and bring out. This last time I had a pick up from 8am-9am. They called me at 8:53am as I am pulling in to tell me my order wouldn't be filled until closer to the 10am-11am slot . I was already there - parking with my 3 month old in the car. I wasn't going to waste gas and drive home to drive back in an hour. So had to go in and grocery shop. I was told by the manager they were short staffed and there is nothing he could do about it. I completely understand being short staffed but if you knew that maybe the call should have been taken place to notify your customer a lot sooner than 8:53am. We will not be shopping at this Meijer any longer. The way they treat customers is sad.

Yelp
Bought a trash can, of all things. It was on the shelf listed at $24.99, went to self check out (which I am NOT a fan of) the can rang up at $99.00! So we deleted it which prompted someone to come over and assist us. We told them the issue and after some time, they came back and said they were making it right, and changed the price to $24.99. Amazing customer service and dedicated to "making it right" I love this Meijer.

Yelp
The Meijer store in Valparaiso started well but now I have to travel to Portage Indiana to go to Meijer. The vegetables are horribly maintained. My lettuces are often wilted and suffer from a lack of water. The fresh lettuces should be very important, however Valparaiso's Meijer is poorly stocked and often out of certain foods. Callabro Ricotta is always missing in the refrigerator. Rarely is it stocked during the past six months. Cat food selections are also in bad shape. Ace bread is not stocked much at all. I don't want Meijer bread I want ACE Bread. I have gone into the Valpo store at Meijer and literally left my cart and travelled to other stores because I am so turned off by that ill kept store. I have complained to managers but they do nothing when I return back. No one in management appears to not care with the work they do when customers complain. I have found a good number of my friends not going to Meijer here in Valparaiso.

Rhonda A.

Yelp
20 some checkout lanes with none open so I was Forced to use self check under the sign that said 20 items or less. I had a full cart with over 100 items.. created a huge line. Kept waiting for assistance and several over rides...Terrible customer service!

Heather C.

Yelp
Like the mperks and although I would have never thought possible, meijers clearance blows Walmarts out of the water. Clearance should be cheap and a good size discount.

Ernest B.

Yelp
I have boughton several 1 gallon bottles of Meijer brand drinking water to have on hand. I noticed one day as I was getting a bottle. 4 of the bottles were crumpled over and empty. Now today another has sprung a leak. It seems there is a weak spot in the plastic bottle. This is not good if you want to store there water. I guess I'll have to get my water somewhere else.
google avatar

Ann S.

Yelp
Very poor customer service. Don't bother trying to use the pickup service, it's apparently out of their league. Soon after opening they stopped carrying many items I can't find anywhere else, that I counted on finding at Meijer. Walmart has this store beat.

M N.

Yelp
Wow. I really don't know where to start. I had complained SEVERAL times to the managers about how the cashiers pack and handle food. From throwing my apples and strawberries in a bag to the point that there were strawberries all over the place and my apples had bruises, so bad I couldn't eat them. I told the cashier to be gentle with my fruit but that was like talking to the wall. On top of that he put my bread with the chicken and my floor cleaner with my eggs, I asked him not to put anything on top of the eggs 3 eggs were broken. He also bag the cheese with the soft er sheets. I keep scratching my head about how this is possible. I even separated everything so the cashier can pack effectively. I called the manage and explain my experience and he said he was going to approach the issue to the worker. 1 week later I returned just to find out that my cashier did the same thing with my groceries. I saw one of the managers but he was busy and it was hard to get his attention about it. I had to repack my groceries before I left the facilities. WHO PACK CHICKEN WITH THE FRUIT, who packs meet with the bread!!!! I call the manager as I was leaving just to be es older by him telling me I should had walk to him and tell him what happened, he didn't even let me finish my sentences before telling me I did everything wrong. Please be AWARE OF THE EXPIRATION DATES, specially the meats and the dairy, that same day I took 12 packages of ground meat that was expire 1 month ago, and found several packages of sauce links with mold on it. This place is a joke and management is right there too. If you shop make sure you are aware of expiration dates and your cashiers.

Crystal B.

Yelp
Hopefully if you shop here you'll have a pleasant customer experience. I had a less than desirable experience with a rude cashier and decided to let the store know how they can improve. I called the store to speak to a manager but he wasn't answering his page. The customer service employee suggested I wait a few minutes and try to call back again. I followed her suggestion, waited the few minutes and then tried calling again. She still couldn't get him on the phone. Minutes later when I called corporate, they stated the would try the very same store and the manager, named Joel, answered the phone immediately. Once I got him on the phone he couldn't care less about my issue and was very unprofessional, and even implied that I was lying. I do not recommend shopping here.

Yelp
So it's been seven months since we lost $40 on a pickup order at the Valero MEIJERS and wife decided to try the store again. We found MEIJERS seems to be a solid, consistent store, as when we got home we found No less than fifteen items missing . Like, a whole bag wasn't put in the car. Calling the store to rectify, manager Adam started copping an attitude because we wanted an immediate credit. No way can they give an immediate credit says he. Again I urge you to print a list of the order and go through every bag they put in your car. Find every item. If the store person should complain, tough. Jewel, Walmart & Stracks have been problem free for us and we feel like idiots giving this store another chance. Not one more penny to them from us. You know the worst thing about this? Businesses just don't care if you don't come back. They see a vast mob of suckers yet to be tapped, as there's one born every minute. Thank you, P.T.

Krystal R.

Yelp
Good selection of products, great prices and easy parking. Store beats a Walmart any day. It was nice to have a Starbucks drink while you shopped as there's a Starbucks in the store. The store was clean and staff were friendly.
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
Clean store YES, everything you need YES, fair prices YES. So why the poor review? Every time I go there (weekly) and during the holiday rush they have limited check out lines open and they pay an employee to stand by the greeting cards to encourage shoppers to use self check out. Today, a slow Tuesday afternoon in January with many elderly shoppers were out doing their shopping I witnessed a senior struggling to use the self check out while a Meijer employee watched from the sidelines as other patrons assisted her with the touch screen as the lines grew longer and tempers of many shoppers grew increasingly. This employee just stood there and observed this shame on you Meijer

Yelp
This is seriously the best thing to come to Valpo in a long time. Great produce, friendly staff, and NEW. I spend much less at Target these days...

J R.

Yelp
Avoid this store. They have awful customer service, are idiotically rude to the handicapped/elderly and don't want to concede anything when challenged about it. By far the WORST grocery shopping experience I've ever had, when this should have been so simple. Went with my handicapped mother today to this location to pick up a few items for Memorial Day. This was during the corona-virus pandemic. My mother is in the at risk age/health group, so I had her stay in the car while I put on a bulky plastic mask for extra safety because I don't want her getting the virus. We parked in the handicap space because she has a handicap plate due to being disabled. Went in, picked up my items, did self-check-out, and brought the groceries back to the car. Should have been over right? My elderly and handicapped mother then told me that a manager had actually exited to store and walked over to the handicap space to line her out like she was a child about "yelling at people." Discussing it with her, it turns out she had only tried complimenting a few people on their clothing, masks, etc. and tried making light conversation from the rolled down window to be friendly to people because she is talkative, bubbly and personable. For this, some red-haired manager with idiotic judgment and non-existent people skills had tried to discipline a senior like this was his 1st grade classroom. Tried calling their customer service number, no one answered the phone. So I went back in and went to the customer service booth and got the manager to have a talk with him because I certainly wasn't letting this level of disrespect from a store we have both given plenty of business over the years slide by. He was obviously extremely annoyed I questioned his ridiculous judgment call, would not concede anything, repeating "I did nothing wrong," five times like a squawking parrot, and never said sorry to me despite my business to this store obviously being on the line based on how this interaction turned out. I asked him to go out back to apologize to my mother, which would be reasonable, since he had already walked out of the store to her car once to scold her. Of course he didn't do that. Pleasing the customers here obviously isn't a priority. They act like trash to them. They only want your money. This was the most idiotic, nonsensical thing I've heard of to happening in a grocery store (she didn't even enter the store!) and I won't be back. Strack and Van Till will be getting my business from now on. Thought this review was over? Well, not yet, I had another negative experience a few months prior that I'll tack on here as well. I had ordered a holiday cake from the Meijer's bakery with certain specifications. When I came to pick it up at the agreed upon time, the girl at the bakery didn't have the cake or no record of it having been ordered. They did nothing to appease me for the mishap. I let this slide at the time, but looking back that was a mistake. So yeah, this location is not trust worthy. Go shop somewhere else unless you enjoy zero customer service, mid-level managers on power-trips who talk down to your elderly parents regarding incidents that never occurred, and wasting your time in general.

Yelp
I know they're probably going to bring an end to Wal Mart, and their "who cares if you're a customer, I'm tired of working here" staff, but this place is just great. Nothing noticeable crawled out from behind the scenes anywhere -- five staff members asked if I needed help (I guess I looked lost) And yeah, it costs a few more cents than Wal Mart, but they have amazing clearance racks that put other retailers to shame, and an attitude that makes you feel welcome. A great store with a friendly staff -- who thought something like that could happen in Valparaiso?
google avatar

Kati H.

Yelp
This store is massive! Was brand new in 2018 (don't quite me on this-guessing) I shop here regularly and have never not been able to find what I needed. Shelves always stocked. Associates are friendly. Prices are great! What more could I ask for!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Store, Very friendly employees. nice assortment of produce, Nice addition to Valparaiso
google avatar

W S.

Yelp
I enjoy shopping at Meijer. It's a brand new store. At first everything was wonderful. But I'm beginning to not enjoy their produce, so now I shop elsewhere for fresh produce. Theirs is not fresh and crisp like other stores. The employees are nice. The place is pretty clean. But I just had to dock one star because of their produce going downhill.
google avatar

Nagdev A.

Yelp
Its meijers. Come on! Its a better version of walmart and couple of cents more expensive compared to walmart. I would only prefer to by fresh food here and rest from walmart. Staff is friendly and checkout lines are faster compared to walmart. Also meijer brand soda is a better deal in terms of price and taste compared to coke products.

Yelp
A typical Day at this store. It's packed and only 5 registers open. Last time I'll be here.
google avatar

Lukey C.

Yelp
The location was clean. The stock was neatly on the shelves. I did not see any expired items. My complaint was when I went and asked for the location of something. (I saw online that it was in stock at this location and went to purchase it) I couldn't find it, so I asked a worker. They couldn't find it, so they passed the buck to another then another. You would think that SOMEONE would know where the items were kept. The manager didn't even know. Ughhh. I left there as an unhappy camper.

Randy A.

Yelp
Went in last night late and shopped for an hour in Valparaiso,IN. Bought probably $500 worth of food and items. Walked up to find a cashier line and none open at 11pm. An hour before they close. I am not fan on the self check needed another cart to place items in as I began. 4 employees laughing and playing on their cell phones watched me struggling. I asked for a cart and a girl employee said you can go outside an get another one. I asked can you please assist me and she went back to her phone. So I put everything back in my cart and pushed it to her and said here you go. Now you have something to do before you leave.

Alen K.

Yelp
this location is terrible needed help droping a small pre postaged usps package in in the mail dept. was given a bunch of lame excuses and implied if If I left my package ever go missing.

Jimmie F.

Yelp
The restrooms are disgusting, dirty with used toilet paper all over the floor, the rolls of toilet paper are on the floor and no one even cleans it up after complaining. This is during covid times yuk. I have only gone to the Valpo store.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
The Valparaiso store is very clean and well stocked, but do not shop there at night. I work swing shift and don't get off until around 2am and sometimes want to do some grocery shopping when I get off work. The nighttime employees are just down right rude. They make you feel like your shopping is inconvenient and you're in their way even when you're down at the other end of the aisle. You get rude looks and one employee actually gave me that exasperated tongue clicking sound because I was just trying to get past them and out of the way of their stocking. Then there's the checkouts, they have those really touchy self checkouts that always do the unexpected item in the bagging area garbage when you just set something down and then pick it up again to bag it. So I tend to go to the only lane run by a real person and once I've had to wait for 10 minutes just for someone to show up to check me out because they were away from the registers. It's just not a pleasant shopping experience, so I usually end up going to Wal-mart, even with all it's problems the employees aren't straight up rude to you.

Fred E.

Yelp
Awful store, to big, can't find anything, employees don't even know where things are. Labeling scales in produce dept. are almost always out of labels, the self checkouts NEVER work properly, have to wait in line for a real checker anyway. My cell phone never works in there,so my wife and I can;t help each other out while we shop, always leads to an argument. Go to the Portage Meijers, MUCH better.

Chris B.

Yelp
Apparently Charles has never been to grocery store in the Midwest. This store doesn't even feel like Meijer. Everything is brand new and clean and very easy to find. I'm sad I'll be moving away.

Ed J.

Yelp
I love going there early morning on Sunday. Cashiers are friendly and food is fresh and well stocked. My only gripe is the Deli. Too slow. Not open early. Fried chicken always taken. Love the yogurt section. Apples always plentiful. Big store. Can get crowded. .

Eliana H.

Yelp
I am very disappointed with Meijer from Valparaiso IN, i love the store by I am disappointed. Last week I went to buy some groceries and went back to my house with nothing, I saw a woman taking some vegetables with her mask under her chin, she coughed a lot like a smoker person. We, the clients were nervous for this reason we just left, a man told her to raise her mask and she answered for him to take care of his own life and leave her alone. Today I went back to the store again and saw some people with their masks down, I was nervous and took some pictures to ask to some people their opinion about it , but one of the women started arguing with me. I do not like scandalous for this reason I will not come back to meijer if continue not to care about the health of your customers, in other stores in Valparaiso are required to cover their nose and mouth, but not Meijer in Valparaiso, they don't really care about the health of their customers. The woman who was attending the customer service said that I shouldn't take pictures and she was angry with me. What kind of people are these who don't care about others? I'm ashamed of the meijer. Do you know how many people are dying everyday in the US with COVID ? Thousand and thousands ! This is so sad! I care about my life and about all human beings, but many don't care about nobody... PS: I did show the pictures just to my family . They think just like me " THE LIFE OF HUMAN BEINGS MATTER"

Markitta H.

Yelp
Meijer is a great alternative to Walmart some may say even better but I don't agree all the way but still a really nice place to shop and work
