8 Best Hostels in Budapest in 2025

"Located directly next to the Great Market Hall, I found MEININGER to be a huge, brand-new modern hostel with 184 rooms and a central location perfect for exploring the city. It offers multiple lounges and a bar, a guest kitchen, and a variety of room types including female-only dorms and family rooms with en-suite bathrooms; dorm beds are comfy with decent mattresses, reading lights, outlets, thick pillows, and lockers, though there are no privacy curtains." - Matthew Kepnes

Customer service was really good, very hospitable, warmly welcomed us and always ready to answer any questions we asked . The check in time is 3pm but room was ready when we arrived and offered us for early check in, which was very convenient. Room was clean, spacious but not really sound proofed. We heard the footsteps from upstairs and around us, but in night time was quiet, so not really bothering to us . Breakfast was ok , a bit crowded because of the holidays season. Variety of choices and standard buffet breakfast. Private pay parking is next to the hotel. Great location for good price .

When I visit Budapest I usually stay at Meininger Great Market Hall -- the location is great (close to everything but not in a noisy party area), the property is modern, clean. Overall an excellent value, in my opinion. Good breakfast too, lots of choices, though kinda bland (no specifically "Hungarian" options like local style spicy sausages or salami).

I had a very good experience at the MEININGER Hotel Budapest. Our room was clean, comfortable and cosy, and overall the conditions were excellent. The customer service was impeccable, all the staff were very friendly, welcoming and gave us great recommendations about the city. A special mention to Eurico, who was absolutely 5 stars! The only negative point I would mention is that there was occasionally a slight sewage smell in the room. Apart from that, everything was great and I would definitely stay in a MEININGER hotel again in the near future.

Even though I had seen photos in advance, I was surprised by how simply the rooms are furnished. It’s really just very basic furniture in a relatively small room. However, everything was clean and nice, so in the end, we were satisfied. Breakfast is reasonably rich. If you're looking for simple accommodation in a good location in Budapest, I can recommend it. One more tip – the hotel doesn’t have its own garage, but about 200 meters away, on the bank of the Danube, there’s an underground garage where you can park cheaply and very conveniently (Bálna Budapest underground parking, Bálna Honvédelmi Központ mélygarázsa).

Great hotel with great location and very good price quality ratio. The staff is amazing and super helpful. The rooms are well equipped, I would've liked a double bed but all the rooms have twin beds. Also they have a system so you can only use the lift if you have a room card, which is very safe. The hotel is close to several bus, tram and metro stops. I can only recommend this place, it was a lovely stay.

Wonderful hotel! For a very reasonable price, you get a perfectly clean and fresh room. I’d also like to thank Antonia at the reception for helping us check in early. It made our stay even better.

Two stars because it has flaws. You cant pay with cash at all. It said its a hotel but its a hostel with hostel beds. The matresses are not flat and you roll. The pillows? Horrible got a neck pain they are way too high. One of the staff asked us for money for luggage hold another didnt. A staff member entered our room while sleeping at 8 am. Its cold in the hotel lobby. The air conditioning is bad and doesnt work as well. What else, there was a terible plumbing smell in the bathroom it disipated after a while but still. Kinda chaos at breakfast with kids running wild and no one on the staff telling people to be more carefull. Also we arrived late at night and the staff took a looong time just to check us in, they were not operative like other hotels. Sure it has good parts as well its clean sure and the breakfast is good even if not as diverse still it has good food. But its the little things that add up that make it uncomfortable. And yes if we knew its a hostel our expectations would be lower so i would have gave it 4 stars because for a hostel is ok but for a pretense hotel, well no for the money we paid. I guess if you dont mind all the things ive said its a good experience. It just has too many flaws. Also its kids friendly but they make too much noise at other respectable hotels they would tell the parents to tone it down. So we had to wait in the lobby at it was so cold that even with our winter jackets it was cold Also people dont enter the front door but the side door to check in all the time because of poor organization so they disturb the people in the lounge also its winter, cold air with low heating in the lobby.

Really amazing experience staying here, the receptionists (Laura in particular) were very kind with our check in timings and check out timings. They helped us a lot with tips & translation. Rooms are clean and spacious. Would surely stay again!! Also very convenient as it's got a bus, tram and metro stop 3-5 minutes by walking!
