8 Best Hostels in Budapest in 2025

"Located directly next to the Great Market Hall, I found MEININGER to be a huge, brand-new modern hostel with 184 rooms and a central location perfect for exploring the city. It offers multiple lounges and a bar, a guest kitchen, and a variety of room types including female-only dorms and family rooms with en-suite bathrooms; dorm beds are comfy with decent mattresses, reading lights, outlets, thick pillows, and lockers, though there are no privacy curtains." - Matthew Kepnes

Even though I had seen photos in advance, I was surprised by how simply the rooms are furnished. It’s really just very basic furniture in a relatively small room. However, everything was clean and nice, so in the end, we were satisfied. Breakfast is reasonably rich. If you're looking for simple accommodation in a good location in Budapest, I can recommend it. One more tip – the hotel doesn’t have its own garage, but about 200 meters away, on the bank of the Danube, there’s an underground garage where you can park cheaply and very conveniently (Bálna Budapest underground parking, Bálna Honvédelmi Központ mélygarázsa).

The hotel staff is attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable.|The hotel itself is clean and located in a great area, very close to Váci Street and the bridges that connect the Pest side to Buda.|What I appreciated the most—and I mention this because I haven’t had this experience in other hotels—is that there was a dedicated guest kitchen and dining area. You could store any food in the fridges, cook your own meals if you wanted, or simply bring in food from outside and enjoy it in a proper dining space (rather than having to eat in your room).|It’s a very thoughtful setup and shows genuine care for guests.|It’s especially perfect for budget travelers

This was our first time in this hostel-hotel format, and we were really impressed. The private bedroom and ensuite bathroom were comfortable, quiet and modern, and the aircon was a delight! The public spaces were amazing, including a number of different lounge/dining seating options both inside and out, a shared kitchen and laundry, etc. The clientele was pleasant and varied - both families and travellers, young and old - and the staff was friendly and helpful. Best of all was the super-central location across from the market, near public transport. Would absolutely stay here again!

good hostel. clean dorms. lockers weren't big enough for a backpack and were dodgy and hard to lock, but there were small valuable lockers so it was fine. good bathroom design for a dorm, shower and toilet are separate. kitchen was ok but fairly dirty throughout, there was no dishwashing liquid for a few days which was a health concern but eventually it was replaced

We stayed at this hotel in Budapest for 3 nights. Our family room was not very big, but there was enough space for all of us. Everything was clean, although there was a bit of mold near the shower. The hotel has a great location, close to a bus stop, the underground and tram stations, and the Great Market Hall. A convenient choice if you want to visit Budapest’s main tourist attractions.

This isn't my first visit to this hotel, and it won't be my last. The room has everything we need, whether I'm traveling with my children, friends, or alone. The hotel is centrally located yet quiet. The large market hall is right next door, and the subway station is only 5 minutes away. All the staff are extremely friendly. Everything is very well organized and runs smoothly. However, the guest kitchen was a complete mess. This isn't a criticism of the hotel, but of the other guests: How can you be so rude and leave the kitchen in this state after using it? Clean up after cooking and leave it as clean as you would like to find it (or as the kitchen would look for your in-laws). There are other guests who will have to use the room after you! I really can't understand how people can be like that. It was just disgusting! Shame on you! I'm glad I came from a camping trip and brought my own dishes.

We did not stay at this hotel, but we were using the garage with a day ticket. The nice gentleman at the reception told us that the bathrooms were free to use for garage users as well. What a nice gesture! Would recommend it, since the bathrooms at the market hall are not free to use. Will definitely be back for the bathrooms, although they could be nicer. Cheers!

It wasn’t my first visit, previous one was ok! It’s great located hotel with quite good breakfast and really nice staff but this time there was mold in the shower stall and it wasn't clean. I still recommend this hotel but check your after check it.
