The 7 Best Hostels in Berlin (Updated 2025)

"I find this place feels more like a traveler/backpacker hotel: rooms are spacious with comfortable mattresses, big storage and en-suite bathrooms, and there's a large common area and game zone with a foosball table. As part of a European chain often used for group tours, school trips, and families it tends to be pretty quiet; pets are allowed for an extra €15 per night and the daily buffet breakfast is €9.90. If I'm looking for a quieter stay with more space to myself, this might be the hostel for me." - Matthew Kepnes

The location is convenient — the tram nearby connects to many parts of the city. Reception staff were friendly, but that’s where the positives end. We stayed in a family room for 5 nights. Some nights the ventilation worked fine, other nights it didn’t. There was barely enough space to open one large suitcase — luckily we only had one for four people. The shared kitchen wasn’t much better. Despite labeling our items, they were still used by others. And with the number of guests staying, the tight space becomes uncomfortable once a big group of people is in there. The worst part was being woken at 3:30 AM by security banging non stop on our door. They found a homeless person on the premises with a key card we had accidentally dropped. Although they had already confiscated it, they still felt the need to disrupt our sleep — and with two kids under 5, it took a long time for everyone to get back into deep sleep. Overall, for the price and stress, there are better options in Berlin.

The location is good, so no complaints there. Overall, the staff were friendly in a reserved manner – a few exuded more warmth, and there was one who was unfriendly and seemed out of place working in a hostel/hotel with international guests. The breakfast was great, and the staff were quick to refill food items and keep the buffet looking presentable. During the two occasions that I was at breakfast for an hour, however, I didn't see any tables being wiped down. Luckily, most guests seemed to leave the spots fairly clean. The rooms were tiny: there was very little space to walk around the bed in our room. The bathroom was spotless (which was good), whereas the room itself showed surfaces that had not been wiped down in days with a light dust build-up visible. The mattresses did not look great (none had a protective cover) but were comfortable. However, it really frustrates me when hostels/hotels do not use anti-bedbug covers on their mattresses. These pests are real issue and a nightmare to deal with in a private residence. Hostels/hotels should do more to protect visitors. I would consider using this Meininger again.

We stayed here for two nights as a family of five and really enjoyed it. When we arrived a little early the room wasn’t quite ready, but the staff were great and let us store our luggage so we could head out exploring straight away. The room itself was perfect for us – nice and spacious with plenty of storage, and even a small table with stools so we could sit together for breakfast or snacks in the evening. The bathroom was clean and modern, which was a big plus. The location worked well too. Right next door there’s a shopping mall with a big supermarket and lots of handy shops, and directly across the road is a park where the kids could play and we could sit and relax. It’s not right in the middle of all the main tourist areas, but the transport links are quick and straightforward, so getting around Berlin was easy. A couple of tips for families: the shared kitchen is a handy option if you want to prepare meals, but it’s a little smaller than we expected and can get busy at peak times, so it’s best to plan ahead. We also found it really useful to pick up breakfast and snacks from the supermarket next door to keep in the room – much easier with kids. For the price, we thought this was excellent value – especially with the space we had for a family of five, which can be hard to find in a city hotel. Would definitely recommend for families looking for a comfortable and affordable base in Berlin.

We had a great stay at this hotel. The breakfast was excellent, and the location is convenient — not far from the city center, yet in a quiet neighborhood. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel also has a kitchen area, toiletries provided, and even arcade games for kids. You can also leave your luggage in a storage room, which was very convenient. The only downside was that the room was quite small. However, overall, the value for money is excellent. Would definitely recommend!

Check-in and check out ran smoothly. Staff lo-ve-ly! Rooms were clean, flavoured with minimalistic elegance and comfort. Staff lo-ve-ly! Breakfast wonderfully organized: quality food, plenty to eat, relaxed atmosphere. Staff lo-ve-ly! Conveniently located, we much appreciated the authentic, non-gentrified local area. And yes, you guessed it right: Staff lo-ve-ly!

Hotel location is good. The person on the reception while checking out on the 13th of September 2025 at 6:50 AM could not understand what is the simple meaning of a Bonbon as I asked in the morning for some sweet to take with me on my long train trip as I did not have the time to take the breakfast. Either he understood it and did not want to help or he misunderstood me or this man on the reception (middle eastern face with transplanted hair) is totally under qualified.

Stayed in this hotel for a few days while we visitedd Berlin. The staff is so nice and helpful. They let me keep my bike in the storage room instead of having to park it on the pavement outside, this was priceless. The location is superb as the tram stop is literally oposite the entrance and only 10 minutes from main train station. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Highly recommended

It was very clean, renovated since short time, it pretty central placed and the shopping mall is in the same building. I missed a mini-bar but it was compensated by the fridge from the shared kitchen. The room was a bit small
