Review is cut shorter, as it was too long for Google 😬.
Stayed here last year, comparing to this year. Upgraded this year to a luxurious room (with airco). Full board, like last year. Also comparing to 2 other hotels we visited, same grade and facilities.
**Room*
- luxury room, but above the noisy kitchen. Got moved to one higher up after complaint at reception.
- one small & one medium sized towel pp.
- one neck pillow pp.
- box shower cap empty; removed the box. Was not restocked.
Only towels were replaced. No cleaning; left plenty to hover up, was still there.
-Decor pillows lounge corner, which we moved about, were not reset to look tidy.
-TV had to be pulled of the wall to watch, it rained dust, doesn't get cleaned.
-Rooms are not soundproof. Enjoyed our upstairs neighbours for 3 nights. Guessing teenage children, mucking about till midnight.
**Swimming Pool*
- no extra towels available. Got one swimming pool towel, which you need to dry off with and that's it.
- spilled drink on tiles not cleaned during our 5 days stay.
- mattress for certain loungers you had to find. This was on DRY day (in reaction to my complaint; was told they hadn't put them out, cos of poss. rain - see further down).
- except one dry day, mattresses were put out by staff, but not till 13h.
Spa staff took them back inside at 16h. Two women to carry one mattress. They were dragging their feet, looking extremely disinterested.
- ordered drink via QR-Code, took 35 min.!!
**Restaurant*
- breakfast buffet was good.
- didn't get cut meats as man behind buffet was restacking it with his bare hands.
- lunch buffet was fine.
- dinner.... Starters and desserts buffet style.
- With full board, for the mains you get a menu to choose from. Three options: meat (3 out of 5 evenings was pork), fish and a vegetarian option.
First evening the meat option was wiener schnitzel, which was veal, so chose that.
Second evening meat option was pork, which I'm allergic to, I don't eat fish and am not a vegetarian. Found out by asking (this is important to keep in mind), I could choose a few more dishes from the a la carte menu.
- no ice-cream, unless you (again) ask. After complaint Wednesday, it was said the cooling system for the ice cream to be at buffet was broken (see complaint further down)
- Thursday, it was fixed, right before the weekend crowd.
- Drinks took too long to arrive, up to 10min.
- plenty restaurant staff, but no clear structure. Felt stressed.
- Staff has to spend much time looking at tablets/hotel phone.
- Dining area is not airconditioned.
- got seated at uncharming tables in the middle, while corner/booth tables were available. I asked (again) and got seated where I wanted.
**Complaints made*
- Complained next day to arriving about the noise from kitchen. Was sorted by moving one floor up.
- Complained again by email on the 3rd day (Wed) about what's listed in this review. Manager came to speak to us same day, which was polite.
However, no actual results than what we had already established ourselves (asking for things), plus manager did feel they met the standards and we got a voucher for one free cocktail.
**Conclusions*
- Straight in there, for 5 nights full board and one or two alcoholic drinks pp per day (at 8,90 per 0,2cl) we payed 2200,- euros.
- things were being stepped up by Thursday, for Day Spa & weekend guests, it seems.
- Hotel offers luxury, however it's not luxurious when you cut corners with: amount of towels & pillows, heavily used bathrobes (weekend/Spa got nice ones !!), not mentioning all options, lack of someone keeping an *eye for detail*.
- Price and appreciation wise, seems better to only go 2 nights at weekend, than 5.
>> Last year we did get more meat options, were offered other meals, ice-cream, more towels, more pillows.
Pool area was kept better and someone coming by to see if you wanted something.
>> For the price, I should not have had to ask for all sorts. It should have been provided / offered.
We felt like second rate guests this time and we won't go a third time.
