Where to Eat, Stay, and Play in Whistler for Spring

"Mekong is a fine-dining Thai restaurant located in an old Subway location. Known for its Thai-inspired cocktail menu and addictive plate of ribs coated in a Thai eight-spice mix, Mekong offers familiar fare with unique twists."

A Beautiful Spot with Good—Not Great—Food Mekong is a beautiful restaurant located in the lovely Creekside Village, offering a stylish and modern atmosphere that makes for a pleasant evening out. The interior design is truly a highlight, creating an ambiance that almost makes you forget about the wait times. We visited during a busy dinner hour and found the place to be a bit understaffed, which led to a longer wait for our food. The staff themselves were very friendly and clearly working hard, so the service delays were understandable. When the food arrived, it was good and presented well, though it didn't quite meet the high expectations set by the prices, which are on the higher end for the portion sizes and flavor profiles. As someone familiar with the vibrant Asian food scene in Toronto, I found the dishes to be just a bit above average. Overall, it's a decent option if you're in the area and craving Asian cuisine in a beautiful setting. While I probably wouldn't make a special trip back, I'm glad we tried it. It's a solid choice for a nice night out, but perhaps not for the ultimate foodie experience.

The service was friendly and efficient - our food came out very quickly, though that might be because there was only one other table when we arrived. Unfortunately, the food itself was quite disappointing. We started our night with the Nahm Prik (see photo as a reference), which tasted more like canned salmon stuffed inside cucumber halves than anything freshly grilled. It completely lacked any flavor and authenticity. Mekong Chicken Wings (see photo as a reference), which were supposed to mimic Tom Yum soup flavors (note on their menu they refer to Dom Yum soup, not sure what kind of soup that is or perhaps it's a typo), mostly consisted of a deep-fried breading with barely any meat, and again, not much flavor at all. For mains, we ordered the Vegetable Green Curry (see photo as a reference) and Pad Thai. The curry was served with barely any vegetables - just a couple pieces of cauliflower and eggplant in a small amount of sauce. The Pad Thai was overly sweet and tasted nothing like the balanced, tangy version I've had at authentic Thai restaurants in Vancouver. Overall, each dish we had at Mekong tasted poorly prepared and didn't capture the true essence of Southeast Asian cuisine. Given the quality and size, the prices felt unjustified. We actually left still hungry and ended up eating afterwards - which says a lot. I wouldn't return or recommend this place if you're looking for authentic flavors or a satisfying meal.

Overall, the food was really good and the atmosphere was beautiful. It’s great that Whistler finally has more Asian options. We also appreciated that the patio was pet friendly. Unfortunately, our experience was ruined by the rude server that had poor attention to detail. Our pad see ew came with only 3-4 noodles and we were mostly left with the toppings and tiny bits of broken noodles. When we brought this to the waiters attention, she began to inform us what constitutes a noodle and pointed at each noodle bit that she saw in our plate. Rather than trying to correct the issue or empathize, she patronized us and tried to explain what a noodle was. Additionally, we told her we didn’t want any cilantro on our dishes when she asked for allergies but then every other dish seemed to be topped with cilantro, which we had to continuously pick off. A different server came to help us afterwards and kindly remade the noodles for us, so we appreciated that.

Best restaurant in Creekside Village! Highly recommend this upscale Thai restaurant — the flavours are incredible, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The lamb chop and halibut dishes were our absolute favourites. It’s a great option if you want to avoid the crowds in the main village, and the late-night sun on the patio is just perfect. A true gem in Creekside!

I was absolutely thrilled with the quality of food and accommodating service my friends and I experienced last night; taking a 7-top with half an hours notice isn’t always easy, but the staff at Mekong made it seem effortless. Absolutely incredible way to spend my birthday. The Chef’s Feast was $110 per person, but the amount of food they provided made it 1000% worth it. Would absolutely recommend visiting on your next holiday to Whistler!

Super cute place and the food was really good! We spent a month in Thailand this past winter and the food here really took me back. They were also able to accommodate some non vegetarian meals to be veg. Get the green curry, it was the best thing we had! Will definitely be back the next time we’re in the area.

Since the change in ownership, I have refused to go as I wasn't impressed when it was newly opened. We were then given a gift card so we were forced to go. Went in at 5:30, we got served right away. Service was impressive. And to our surprise, portions were way BETTER than previous ownership along with the flavors and the little details on their sauces. It took me back to Asia! They're all about the herbs and spices and not just the fish sauce, salt and pepper kind of meals. They're very flavorful!
