The service was friendly and efficient - our food came out very quickly, though that might be because there was only one other table when we arrived.
Unfortunately, the food itself was quite disappointing.
We started our night with the Nahm Prik (see photo as a reference), which tasted more like canned salmon stuffed inside cucumber halves than anything freshly grilled. It completely lacked any flavor and authenticity. Mekong Chicken Wings (see photo as a reference), which were supposed to mimic Tom Yum soup flavors (note on their menu they refer to Dom Yum soup, not sure what kind of soup that is or perhaps it's a typo), mostly consisted of a deep-fried breading with barely any meat, and again, not much flavor at all.
For mains, we ordered the Vegetable Green Curry (see photo as a reference) and Pad Thai. The curry was served with barely any vegetables - just a couple pieces of cauliflower and eggplant in a small amount of sauce. The Pad Thai was overly sweet and tasted nothing like the balanced, tangy version I've had at authentic Thai restaurants in Vancouver.
Overall, each dish we had at Mekong tasted poorly prepared and didn't capture the true essence of Southeast Asian cuisine. Given the quality and size, the prices felt unjustified. We actually left still hungry and ended up eating afterwards - which says a lot.
I wouldn't return or recommend this place if you're looking for authentic flavors or a satisfying meal.
