"Mel" stands for "Melbourne" Australia.
I've been to various coffee fanatic cities around the world, but I must say that the #1 Coffee City is Tokyo, followed by Melbourne as #2. The founder of Mel Coffee Roasters spent some time in Melbourne working at a coffee specialty cafe (he explained that it was what now is Rumble Coffee Roasters).
He wanted to bring some of Melbourne's Coffee culture essence to Osaka, thus called his new shop "Mel". You can enjoy both espresso and dripped coffee here. They also sell coffee beans in a stylish bag.
On the day I went, they had 5 types of single origin beans to choose from for 400 Yen a cup. They also had an original been for 350 Yen. I went wth their Nicaragua Limonchillo and it was delicious. A well balanced coffee between bitterness and sourness.
NO SEATS: They have one bench seat outside their shop and that is pretty much it. Absolutely no seats inside the shop. consider Mel to be a takeout only shop.
FOOD: No sweets sold here. Look across the street. Yo will find a bakery called Sous Le Ciel. Buys some of their chilled chocolate danish like sweets called "Zakkuro" (250 Yen). Enjoy Mel's Coffee with Zakkuro in your hand.
This area of Osaka is turning into a coffee heaven. You have Lilo Coffee, Mondial Coffee, and now Mel Coffee Roasters all within a walking distance from each other.
The founder of Mel, Masahiko Fumimoto, likely speaks some English, so chat with him about Melbourne; mate.
