I went on my first holiday in a long time early this year. My oldest friend from school was newly single and we decided to take a vacation in Mexico together. We were a bit nervous and very determined to find the perfect place. We absolutely succeeded.
The Melia in Puerto Vallarta was perfect for us right from arriving at the airport, checking in and and throughout our entire stay. The front desk staff were so kind and diligent in making sure we had our adjoining rooms as requested. I am up early and she is up late so we decided to have our owns rooms but the open door between them was absolutely the best part of our stay. Chatting getting ready, making plans for the day, deciding what to wear, a glass of wine together on a deck, sometimes mine sometimes hers, we caught up on all the events our lives and then closed the door between our rooms and slept in peaceful bliss. Did I mention I snore?!!
The bell staff at the front of the hotel helped us every day with directions, taxis, ubers, weather updates and lots of recommendations. Some were new, some had been there a while, some were old and some were young. Not all of them had perfect English and my Spanish is awful but we always figured it out. They were so kind and patient and cheerful every day. And helpful with lots of ideas of places to go and see. We also got help from the concierge desk with margarita and good coffee recommendations plus she made reservations for us at the restaurants in the hotel.
We tried all three but really loved the Seafood restaurant for dinner. We went twice!! We went to the buffet every day for breakfast and sometimes lunch depending on our schedule. It was always good with healthy and decadent options. The best thing about both of them was absolutely the wait staff. So kind and helpful and patient with our almost non-existent Spanish. The hostess was very understanding with my everyday no hijos request that meant please don’t sit us near young children not that we didn’t have any coming to join us. They helped us with our Spanish and by the end of the week we knew how to order coffee and juice and whatever else we needed while dining.
The rooms were clean and inviting and the hotel grounds are beautiful. We strolled the grounds and were amazed at how clean and well kept it was. The pool staff were equally as kind and helpful and we enjoyed drinks by the pool, snacks and aqua fitness every day we could. We loved the location of the hotel and visited the beach and the local sights within walking distance every day.
We have decided to return to Mexico and after talking about a lot of other cities and sights and hotels we decided we are going to return to the Melia in Puerta Vallarta. We just had such a wonderful holiday we are a bit worried that no place else will be as nice. They did such an amazing job welcoming us to their beautiful city and the magic of the Melia that we are planning to return this year and probably every year after.
