This was an okay resort, but I don't think I'll be back. The hotel has a grand entrance and people work hard to keep it up, but it is a bit run down. Cracked tiles, broken walkways, peelung paint. Some staff were very friendly and welcoming, others seemed like they hated their jobs. Beach is beautiful and protected, but constant vendors. Put your towels out by 8am to get a spot by the pool or on the beach, even though there is no "reserving". Activities were really geared for families or little kids; musical chairs by the pool, crafts, archery, mini golf. We really struggled with what to do at night. Pool closes at 7pm. The resort offers "shows", but they are hit or miss; magic show was good, illusion show was okay, pirate show was not. All the adults congregate in the hotel lobby bar after dark but they are all dressed up with nowhere to go and nothing to do. They had kereoke one night and that was popular. And they had live music one night. I would have liked to have the pool adults-only after dark and have a DJ or live music in the lobby bar at night. Drinks are weak, so the only way you are catching a buzz is if you are taking shots. Buffett is so-so. I liked the omelette station in the morning. We ate at Tacos & Mole a couple times. Food was pretty good there. Service was good the first time and terrible the 2nd time. You need to make reservations a couple days in advance. You are across the street from the marina, so you can go there for shopping or different food options. There is a market in the marina on Thursday nights and there are street performers that perform in front of the restaurants at night. There is a grill at the resort pool that serves burgers, dogs, pizza and chicken nuggets. These are not gourmet. My husband and son were waiting in line for hamburgers and the server ignored them, and asked the 3rd man (a mexican man) in line how many burgers he wanted. When he said that my husband and son were there first, the employee turned around and walked away. I don't know if it was because we were American, but this was a pervasive vibe from several staff despite the fact that we were always polite, friendly, tipped well, and I speak Spanish. You need to use the app to see activities offered, but expect them to consistently start late. And you won't know where they are because the location is not posted in the app. You also need to use the app to request things like water, towels and other things because the phones in the room don't work. Requests in the app may or may bot be responded to. I suggest trading in your pool towels at the end of the day to get new ones so you can reaerce your chairs bright and early the next morning. Be sure they give you towel cards when you check in. The towel lady is hit or miss. My son checked out a volleyball and she chewed on him when he brought back at the end of the day because he didn't bring it back in an hour and a half. She didn't tell him the time limit when he checked it out and he had kept a revolving door of kids, adults and teens entertained on the beach volleyball court with a mix of competitive and for-fun games all day long. All-in-all, we met some great people here; Canadians, Mexicans and Americans. The weather was great and we went on a decent excursion (Victor at the activities desk was very helpful!). But I think the next time I go to Puerto Vallarta I will look for a resort that caters more to adults and has a better activities menu. Also, no hot tub and pickleball courts have been turned into storage.
