Really disappointed. This is far from a four star hotel. Six of us travelled for a special family occasion and all of us had sickness and diarrhoea. It is apparent from other reviews there are other families who suffered the same. On arrival my daughter's bathroom had brown water from the taps, they couldn't change her room until the following day. |In our first day we had to queue an hour to book the restaurants but unfortunately they were all fully booked for the first two nights. Buffet food was ok but often cold. Glasses at the bar were dirty and service for lunch time beach or Italian restaurants were really chaotic. Wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Spent 2 weeks here and had a really relaxing and enjoyable time. Rooms are spacious and clean. Food is good and varied with a choice between restaurant and buffet dining. The beach is clean, close to the bar and restaurant and good choice of beds. Footy fanatics are covered with all major Europe leagues plus champions league covered by the channels available in room. High recommended.

Unhygienic nasty place. Definitely not 5 star, more like 2. The sheets hadn't been changed in five days (the bed was just made with the dirty linen) and the pillows were smelly. I had to ask three (3!) times today, twice to the manager, eventually I got upset and then finally at 8.30PM I got clean sheets. Additionally, the room was not ready on my day of arrival at 5PM, I was told to wait 30 minutes and when I came back it was still not ready. They charged 6000 (~60$/€) for a 25 min spa treatment that was supposed to last 40 minutes, which feels like a scam. The staff smiles and looks friendly but they either don't care or don't know what acceptable service is. Avoid this place. Last year I went to Boa Vista and stayed at Riu which is much better in all ways.

We were a little concerned having read some of the reviews but in all honesty we have had the most relaxing holiday. Hotel staff were fantastic and the resort is very clean. Rooms/ suites are comfortable, clean and airy. It should always be remembered that this is a developing country and it's unfair to compare 5 star here with 5 star in some other destinations. Definitely recommend.

Top marks from us. This is our last full day here, we check-out tomorrow. Spent my birthday and our anniversary here. Cannot find anything to fault. Polite staff, brilliant location. Unforgettable experience. Thank you.

1 of the best hotels I've visited in recent years. The hotel, it's layout location and facilities are very good. The staff are magic thanks to Flaiva,Tania, Ruffin & others to numerous for me to remember names. However, my main problem is beds being reserved and sometimes not used, we |were able to find beds on the beach every day.|The food was not the best we have had as some of the selections on offer was not to my taste, (fish). But no one would go without a meal there was lots of variety. Chicken, roast beef, various recipes of chicken, lots of salad, fruit, cakes, just to name a few.|I did find Cape Verde expensive in Santa Maria it's self. A tip to anybody going for a trip was take euros. Only 1 shop in the hotel but other Melia hotels which were very nearby you could use for a small cost (eg a beer euros). Over all a brilliant trip. But a shock in the drop in temperature on arrival in Manchester. 25c down to 5c|I would consider returning but possibly a different island|We went to Sal|

Amazing staff from the cleaners to the local reps.|To name but a few: Lucelia S E (La Cabana), Otelinda (Sway bar), Eilene (La Cabana) and Ana who worked everywhere - all of these ladies went above and beyond to ensure that we had excellent service with a friendly smile. |Special mention must also go to Milicar who entertained us brilliantly at the pool with water polo and zumba.||The apartments at Tortuga are always well maintained and well cleaned every day with fresh towels and sheets. Our house keeping lady for room 210 (sorry, didn't catch your name) was very respectful and did a great job for us.||The only thing that lets Tortuga down is the food offering. Breakfast in the Spices restaurant is great but for the fact that it ran out of bacon by 9.20am every day - breakfast finishes at 10am. The lunch and evening meals can be a bit hit and miss with regards to quality but on the whole OK.|The Pasta Nostra was, quite frankly, awful - soggy pizza, mussels that were off, just not nice.|The new Secret Garden restaurant was OK.|La Cabana (O'Grille as it used to be), the beach restaurant is fantastic - the best food on site, the best views and great service - thank you to Maitre'de Daniel who keeps his staff well organised. ||The local Cape Verde staff are paid a pittance compared to the British, French and other foreign staff - please make a point of rewarding good service!

This is nowhere near a 5*. The hotel looks lovely, on the beach, but the staff hygiene and cleanliness is very poor! For example the waitress didn’t wash her hands after visiting the toilet then went straight into waiting on foods. The cleaner used the same dirty cloth to clean toilet and coffee table, the same cloth all the way through. We had to keep going to reception for toilet rolls, towels and even bed sheets. The food was the worse I’ve ever eaten and out of our group of 4 families at least one was ill for several days! Couldn’t wait to get home!
