Melissani Cave Lake

The cave is stunningly beautiful. As soon as you enter, you are greeted by crystal-clear, turquoise waters that sparkle under the sunlight filtering through the open roof of the cave. The light creates an otherworldly glow, making the water look almost surreal. Surrounded by limestone walls covered in lush greenery, the entire scene feels like a hidden paradise. It’s truly breathtaking.

A short drive from Sami, good car parking, nice gift shop. The cave itself is accessed via many steps and a steep slope so maybe not for anyone who has mobility issues but absolutely worth it if you’re able. The boatmen are great at explaining the history of the cave and interesting facts about it, and they’ll take your photo for you too. €10 each adult plus you’ll probably want to tip the boatman (they’d deserve it).

An underground lake with a crystal blue color. A beautiful 10 minute boat ride. When it is sunny, beautiful pictures can be made because of the turquoise color of the water.

Amazing sight not to be missed, ideally if you can visit during the window where the sun shining through the cave opening provides a dazzling turquoise display on the lake. The boatman expertly and charmingly ferry you around the short trip with detailed historical background. It's polite to tip them a bit at the end for their efforts..

Go when the light is best about midday. Get there for 11am queue will be about an hour. Half an hour in the sun so be prepared. No seats. Then covered for last half an hour. The boatman helps you in to the boat. 15 minutes in cave it's magical. Well worth €10 or €13 if you pay for both caves. Bring water to drink. Steep slope going back up. But doable.

Fun attraction, the lake is in a cave where the roof has collapsed in part. A boat (oared by entertaining rowers) takes you round for a 10 minute boat ride. It can get busy, we had a 30min queue) but just about worth it.

Beautiful environment! Do not visit in July and August between 10.30-14.30 because large number of touring cars visit the place with hundreds of tourists. It’s beter to go around 16.00 or early mornings.

Amazing place to visit, but it's always busy and you need to wait a lot for 10 minutes of fun. It's still a place I recommend to visit once. Friendly staff.
