Stepping inside feels like time travel. Patterned ceilings, heavy drapes, and quiet rooms where you notice tiny things like worn stair rails and old photos on side tables. We wandered slowly, reading the room cards and peeking into corners. The garden’s a calm breather afterward, with enough shade to sit and chat before heading back to the street.

An interesting house museum to visit with rich history on a Victorian home where the treaty for the end of the Anglo-Boer war was signed. The visit can take between 30 to 40 minutes. Some places in the house have QR codes that provide more information on the displays in the museum.

The museum was closed when we arrived. The building itself looks quaint. I was told it was the place where the peace treaty between the English and the Boer was signed. More interesting looked the parc infront of it I have to admit. I feel like I wouldn’t have missed anything if I hadn’t seen this…

🏛️ Melrose House Museum in Pretoria is a captivating portal into South Africa’s Victorian past. From the moment you step inside, the elegance of 19th-century architecture and decor surrounds you—stained glass windows, antique furnishings, and historically rich rooms that once hosted the signing of the Treaty of Vereeniging in 1902. The museum’s preservation is impressive, offering visitors a thoughtful and immersive experience, whether through guided tours or quiet exploration. Nestled beside Burgers Park, it’s a serene and culturally significant gem that earns high praise for its authenticity and historical depth.

Though it was closed temporally, I was allowed to walk around the beautiful garden. There was a toilet for visitors.

What an awesome experience. The museum is starting to show signs of wear and tear, but still gives you a clear picture of the kind of opulent lifestyles people lived back then. The massive tree in the front yard was a surprising bonus.
